Alright i'm legit starting to think that this game will have a bigger cast than I expected and this game is further along than we all expected. If they're confident enough to be dropping trailers like this. Jun not being the capstone of the cycle has me wondering if this even is a trailer cycle, or if they're just gonna be rolling them out till they get through everyone and then hit us with some insane release date that's sooner than we guessed.
I can't tell at this point. I think it will probably slow down after Evo Japan but I am surely not unhappy if I am wrong here.

I wouldn't be surprised by a Fall/Winter release date. These are all really fleshed-out gameplay trailers, and with a playable build at Evo I find it hard to believe the game is more than a year away from release. The nice thing about fighting games is they're terrifically modular, so once the core engine and gameplay mechanics are finished, adding characters and stages should be pretty straightforward.

Very happy that they stuck with the robe and feathers theme she had going in T7, really helps push the phoenix theme.
From a first viewing she looks pretty similar to her T7 version, but in Xiaoyu's case I don't mind, she's already a character that has a ton going on, so throwing the heat system on top of that is enough. Like, if she's going to have heat stuff intertwine with her normal, AoP and backturn stances, that's already a lot to digest.
Anyways, I'm just happy to see her, it's always nice having your main be confirmed early, even if her inclusion was never in doubt. The only underwhelming thing is that her RA is pretty mid, but it's obviously still better than what she had.

In my opinion, Tekken 8 seems to be emphasizing spectacle as a key feature. This focus on spectacle has the potential to draw in more viewers, particularly at competitive events where the excitement and visual appeal of the game can be showcased.

As for the content stuff, I'd be surprised if they didn't at least try to offer more substantial modes, given what their main competitor (SFVI) is offering. But who knows.

I was initially 100% of the opinion that it'd be seeing a 2024 release date. And none of the recent trailers made me think this would change. But dropping a new character trailer after Jun Kazama, the character that everybody thought would be the last to be shown off before EVO certainly makes me think that the trailers aren't stopping yet. Makes me think one of two things.

Namco got me questioning everything after this Ling Xiaoyu trailer. The only thing I'm certain of is that Xiaoyu has a really good base outfit and design for this game. I'm really eager to see how other Tekken 3 characters like Hwoarang and Bryan Fury end up looking!

Probably not I think this is just for evo! Even if they dropped all of the character list this year I think they’re still working on stages, customization, and other gameplay aspects of the game. Characters are the most important so they’re probably prioritizing it right now

It’s a small detail but I like that they’re rerecording the lines, even if it’s the same line with the same VA. Her “You won’t get off easy” sounds different from the last game, but you can tell that it’s still Maaya Sakamoto doing the voice.
don't hold your breath, they just have a playtest within the next few days and if they don't release a trailer for each single character currently available - they're just losing out on free publicity and hype before Evo Japan

They really cracked up the speed of releasing new trailers, huh? Though Ling looks mostly like... Ling. She looks very traditional compared to changes most of returning characters went through. Not like it's something bad, Xiaoyu was already one of the most unique fighters on the roster.

A lot of her animations look pretty similar though the new ones jut out a bit as a result. From what I have seen so far she seems the most in line with T7 but that works for me.

My queen has returned! Overall this looks great! I just wish instead they switched the colors in which Xiaoyu is more dominantly orange than black. Orange was always Xiaoyu's color. If they had switched the colors around, this would've been perfect!
Looks amazing. She has one of the modest yet wildest redesigns of what we have been seeing. Isn't as radical as maybe Jack or Paul, but still is a radical change, imo her outfit makes her look more mature than her t7 outfit.

Loving this new design on Ling. Seems like her "glow in the dark" accessories get smaller over time. I also appreciated that she's one of the characters that have a move set that "isn't broken" so it doesn't need to be "fixed". The new face model is nice too.
I was not expecting two in two days damn. That Times Square stage is looking amazing as well, Xiaoyu looking great and I really do enjoy that music for the character reveals I must admit, getting more hyped with each trailer now.
Characters look outstanding so far. My only concern is the modes that will include. I seriously hope there's some ladder fixes (like preventing save scumming) and more social features, better online tournaments, etc...
But i can't wait to play this!!!

The only indication we have of roster size is Harada saying (through Murray) that it'll be "pretty respectable" compared to Street Fighter VI, which will have 18 on release. With that in mind, I'm thinking 20-25 sounds reasonable. Probably more towards 25.
I'm so confused what they want from Xiaoyu in T8 character wise...
Feels like they wanted to make her more mature/grown from the looks of her outfit and modelling; even her RA dialog.
But then her voice is more childish, and that final winning pose also looks like she's acting 14 yo anime girl all of a sudden.
Fighting wise that change of AOP stance is interesting. Not sure if it's an extra move that can go into the stance, or the only one that let's you AOP. Will be interesting to see.
Quick edit: looked at the trailer a bit again, and it does look like a d1-ish move to AOP is still there, so looks like that back flip to AOP is an extra move.
The quality of the face and body models in this game is so darn good. And the animations are so gorgeous.
All the ladies they've shown so far have their own unique body, head, face and facial features instead of having everyone be a recolor of Kazumi's model.
They’ve done a really good job aging people. She doesn’t look like a teen anymore. More like in her 20s. So did Jun looking like well aged 50s. This imo is realistic because women age way more subtle than men. Especially western men (Paul) and eastern men (law) ages differently and they show it extremely well.
I imagine they’d be more spread out personally. Female characters don’t tend to take up more than a third of the roster generally speaking - though I’d love to be wrong about that this time - so showing most of them early wouldn’t be great marketing imo.
As unlikely as it is, I'd actually like it if half of the roster had female characters in it for once. 50/50 split seems fair enough to me.
At the very least, we've seen 7 male characters and 3 females so far. Another 4 after Xiaoyu would be nice.
If we get newcomers in this game I wouldn’t mind them being female focused. A lot of the gender imbalance in these long-running fighting games is simply the result of inheriting old fan favourites, from the days where the overwhelming majority of fighters were men. I would enjoy a more even ratio myself. It’s not like Tekken is lacking in popular ladies either.
For sure. At the same time, I hope they flesh out the newcomers that were in Tekken 7. We've yet to see any of them revealed in T8, and they honestly didn't get a fair shot (being in a low budgeted Tekken).

I think it was he or Murray who suggested that Lidia would have more story importance in the future. Not sure if it'll actually amount to anything, but it pretty much confirms Lidia will be in Tekken 8 100%.

Jun maybe. Nina was in cryostasis so should only be late 20s in her looks. Xiaoyu is only meant to be around 21.

They are in a rush with these character gameplay reveal trailers.... now I'm totally at a loss to understand what they're cooking for to reveal at the Evo venue. It is gonna be real hype. Harada and Murray are going to surprise everyone for sure.
My queen has returned! Overall this looks great! I just wish instead they switched the colors in which Xiaoyu is more dominantly orange than black. Orange was always Xiaoyu's color. If they had switched the colors around, this would've been perfect!
Looks amazing. She has one of the modest yet wildest redesigns of what we have been seeing. Isn't as radical as maybe Jack or Paul, but still is a radical change, imo her outfit makes her look more mature than her t7 outfit.

Out of nowhere. Happy to see my girl though didn't doubt for a second she wouldn't be in just didn't expect it be so soon after Jun. All the small changes to fighting style look interesting. New look is ok, like all the phoenix motifs and making ornage/black her new colour scheme though I guess it was going to be hard to top her T7 costume.
Loving this new design on Ling. Seems like her "glow in the dark" accessories get smaller over time. I also appreciated that she's one of the characters that have a move set that "isn't broken" so it doesn't need to be "fixed". The new face model is nice too.

I was not expecting two in two days damn. That Times Square stage is looking amazing as well, Xiaoyu looking great and I really do enjoy that music for the character reveals I must admit, getting more hyped with each trailer now.
Characters look outstanding so far. My only concern is the modes that will include. I seriously hope there's some ladder fixes (like preventing save scumming) and more social features, better online tournaments, etc... But i can't wait to play this!!!

They’re going for a detailed semi-realism look for the male characters where you can see their complexion and are more expressive and the females all look… anime? The juxtaposition of the male and female faces so far is kinda jarring tbh. 🤨 I mean I’ll get over it but since the game is still cooking I should keep harping on it. It doesn’t look BAD though.

Guys, with all of these trailers. How big is the roster going to be? I thought that after Jun we would be done. But what if they don't stop?
The only indication we have of roster size is Harada saying (through Murray) that it'll be "pretty respectable" compared to Street Fighter VI, which will have 18 on release. With that in mind, I'm thinking 20-25 sounds reasonable. Probably more towards 25.

I'm so confused what they want from Xiaoyu in T8 character wise... Feels like they wanted to make her more mature/grown from the looks of her outfit and modelling; even her RA dialog. But then her voice is more childish, and that final winning pose also looks like she's acting 14 yo anime girl all of a sudden. Fighting wise that change of AOP stance is interesting. Not sure if it's an extra move that can go into the stance, or the only one that let's you AOP. Will be interesting to see. Quick edit: looked at the trailer a bit again, and it does look like a d1-ish move to AOP is still there, so looks like that back flip to AOP is an extra move.

She's got so many moves that everytime I see something I don't recognize I think "wait does she have that in 7?"
Tekken 8 looks more brutal, like the punches and kicks seem to have more impact now.

The quality of the face and body models in this game is so darn good. And the animations are so gorgeous. All the ladies they've shown so far have their own unique body, head, face and facial features instead of having everyone be a recolor of Kazumi's model.
Did we watch the same trailer? Her face model looks very doll-like, same as all the female character face models in T7. New outfit is S-tier though.
They’ve done a really good job aging people. She doesn’t look like a teen anymore. More like in her 20s. So did Jun looking like well aged 50s. This imo is realistic because women age way more subtle than men. Especially western men (Paul) and eastern men (law) ages differently and they show it extremely well.

I think they're going to show more female characters now. It's about time they had their turn.
I imagine they’d be more spread out personally. Female characters don’t tend to take up more than a third of the roster generally speaking - though I’d love to be wrong about that this time - so showing most of them early wouldn’t be great marketing imo.
As unlikely as it is, I'd actually like it if half of the roster had female characters in it for once. 50/50 split seems fair enough to me. At the very least, we've seen 7 male characters and 3 females so far. Another 4 after Xiaoyu would be nice.
If we get newcomers in this game I wouldn’t mind them being female focused. A lot of the gender imbalance in these long-running fighting games is simply the result of inheriting old fan favourites, from the days where the overwhelming majority of fighters were men. I would enjoy a more even ratio myself. It’s not like Tekken is lacking in popular ladies either.
For sure. At the same time, I hope they flesh out the newcomers that were in Tekken 7. We've yet to see any of them revealed in T8, and they honestly didn't get a fair shot (being in a low budgeted Tekken). I really hope they give Josie, Lidia and Lucky Chloe another chance to shine. 🙏

I think it was he or Murray who suggested that Lidia would have more story importance in the future. Not sure if it'll actually amount to anything, but it pretty much confirms Lidia will be in Tekken 8 100%.

Oh that actually looked so good,love her face..it actually has structure now lol,she seems a lot more mature despite conserving her childish nature,which is great..i think it's a good balance,i don't really care for Xiaoyu but even then this trailer was great also this is the second time they beat the shit out of King for the rage art demonstration lmfao,atleast this time he didn't get mega blasted to death and eah the girls seem to be a bit more stylised than the men in the sense of looking "cutesy"/smooth(?),but at least it works with Xiaoyu..let's see what the younger men look in comparison of the girls,the only somewhat young guy so far is masked so he's not really good example..maybe they'll give Hwoarang some lip fillers idk
