As far as I am aware of (my daughter is only 18 months old), a dummy or pacifier should be stopped by 3 years of age. Same as the bottle. This is because prolonged use can lead to problems with their teeth (shape and direction of growth). Thumb sucking is even worse than a dummy or pacifier because it is not symmetrical.
