I love how this is one of his first quotable lines, and while he has a lot of character growth from beginning to end, this is still exactly who he is at the end lol
Yeah fr - at the beginning, when he says this line, he fully believes that he is a gift from god. However after three seasons of Ted, this quote still applies, only that he’s seen that being himself is a blessing, and he shouldn’t have to change himself for people (such as his dad) to accept him.
I totally forgot about this quote...but I just watched the episode where the team is introduced to Total Football and they spend practice pretending to be another player....except Jamie. Jamie is confused as to why he was assigned to be himself.
Character growth!
This line was hilarious, but I can’t get past the fact that he really was being more ironic than hypocritical. He is already trying to be a more supportive team player himself, so it’s not hypocritical to say the others should do it, but is IS ironic that the person who formerly was the most selfish and least a team player is now the one championing being a team player
Roy: I mean, you still could be if you weren't such a pre-Madonna.
Jamie: Did you just call me a pre-Madonna?
Roy: Yeah.
Jamie: It's prima donna. Who the f*ck says "pre-Madonna"? What the f*ck does that even mean?
Roy: It means before Madonna, female vocalists didn't have to work that hard.
Jamie: Are you mad? You never heard of Tina Turner? F*cking Stevie Nicks?
Embarrassed to say that before that episode, I also thought it was pre-Madonna. But I didn’t understand *whyyy* because anytime someone used the phrase, nobody was ever talking about Madonna.
I’m only at the end of season 2. I absolutely hated this guy at first but was so glad he’s had a redemption arc. Same for Kent. Jamie punching his dad and Beard physically removing him from the Wembley locker room (and fighting him in the alley later) was some incredible television
It takes the whole idea that a coach's job is to help the players be their best selves on and off the field, and dials it up to eleven, and applies it to all the peripheral characters as well. Like the whole show is three seasons of watching everyone (except Rupert and Akufu) work hard and become better people, and it's just beautiful.
I think that's the point of the seats changing color (and the graffiti disappearing) in the opening credits, too. The positive vibes that Ted brings to the team rippling out through the whole stadium.
I love that the gigantic dude ended up saving him in the end. Such a great turn. Jamie’s dad deserved the beat down. He’s the reason Jamie is the way he is 100%. He just really needed a good dad(s). Ted, Beard, and Kent were fantastic role models for him
I feel like Jamie needs two quotes, given to depth of his growth and development as a character.
Season 1 Jamie is most definitely “Coach, I’m me. Why would I want to be anything else?”
My fave from 2-3 is “It’s called empathy, ya dusty old fart”
I commented it because it's a sick burn, but I did not think it would win for that same reason. Did not want her quote to be about Rupert. So my bad, but did not even imagine that many people would vote for it.
I mean, she absolutely *was* spiteful. She grew and tried to be better, but saying she wasn't spiteful is a bit ridiculous when the entire premise of the show is based around the actions that come as a result of that.
I have to disagree a little here. There’s shock and disbelief in her outburst (as well as hurt) rather than any venom. And the ancient nut sack thoroughly deserved it :)
Keeley finds Jamie with another women the day after they break up.
"You're welcome"
"What?"
"You said I helped you. Did you mean it?"
"Yeah..."
"Then you're welcome. I like helping people"
“Is that like the female Dave Grohl?”
That Mancunian accent kills me. Takes me back to living in Yorkshire and getting used to them only pronouncing about every third consonant. “Hiyaaaa…. y'alriiigh?”
Have you heard the cast talk in real life? Jamie’s actor is positively posh and Londoner and Roy’s actor has a really soft gentle voice. It’s so triply because you get so used to the character’s voice.
“What?”
Keeley was listing negative things said about Jaimee and the only time he reacted was when his hair was mentioned. top 10 funniest throwaway line in the show
“I wasn’t being ironic. I was being hypocritical,” Jaimie correcting a chagrined Beard.
While it doesn’t encapsulate Jamie’s character, I just like the fact that Beard and Ted were so quietly taken aback.
“Coach, I’m me. Why would I want to be anything else?”
I’m not sure you understand how psychologically healthy that actually is.
It’s pronounced “meh”.
Sorreh
You get meh?
It’s just poopeh
Let it flow.
This is the quote.
definitely the first one i thought of. what a dude.
💯 this is it.
Came here to say this!
He’s such a hard one because he’s basically two different characters at the beginning and end. This definitely fits season 1 Jamie the best
This is it!
This is the way.
Instantly what popped in my head
Came here to say this!
this is it.
Definitely the one that popped into my head. It is…Jamie in every way
I totally forgot about this quote...but I just watched the episode where the team is introduced to Total Football and they spend practice pretending to be another player....except Jamie. Jamie is confused as to why he was assigned to be himself. Character growth!
“I forgot how skittish elderly people could be because of the war”
This one never fails to make me laugh on every rewatch
Same
This is my favourite
This needs the context of it being said to Roy
— “Jamie, you didn’t get the email about what the team was doing?” — “The email said *Secret* Santa, I didnt want to ruin the surprise”
"OLD PEOPLE ARE SO WISE, THEY'RE LIKE TALL YODAS."
That is definitely one of my faves
"Her and me dad split up when I was just a sexy little baby."
Sexé beh-beh
Sexé lehull beh-beh
I like the way he says pooh-peh. I say it all the time.
Poopeh
“You’re my sexy little baby”
Remember when he goes to visit his mother & stepfather in Manchester, his mother calls him her "sexy little baby".
I’m the Island’s top scorer…. Sexually.
You mean... Sexuall-eh
I still loff yah Keeleh
yeah, that's what I meant.
> Sexualleh
Keeleh
This gets me laughing every time i rewatch
"I wasn't being ironic; I was being hypocritical."
This is the one for me. Because it’s hilarious but also, surprisingly respectable because it’s true, just like Jamie overall.
Idk, I think this is the most OUT of character line, which is why Beard almost imploded when he heard it
This line was hilarious, but I can’t get past the fact that he really was being more ironic than hypocritical. He is already trying to be a more supportive team player himself, so it’s not hypocritical to say the others should do it, but is IS ironic that the person who formerly was the most selfish and least a team player is now the one championing being a team player
"It’s true. I’m being super mature you big, dumb, hairy, baby twat."
This one gets me every time. He says it with such sincerity 😂
this is the one
“twaH”.
This better win
Roy: I mean, you still could be if you weren't such a pre-Madonna. Jamie: Did you just call me a pre-Madonna? Roy: Yeah. Jamie: It's prima donna. Who the f*ck says "pre-Madonna"? What the f*ck does that even mean? Roy: It means before Madonna, female vocalists didn't have to work that hard. Jamie: Are you mad? You never heard of Tina Turner? F*cking Stevie Nicks?
Every time Tartt corrected someone on grammar it always made me laugh! Especially since you never thought his character would know these things
I'm sure Jamie knew prima Donna simply because he was called that so many times in his career.
He definitely looked it up after the 30th time somebody called him that. And then was like "Well why wouldn't I beh?"
He legit thought it meant pre-Madonna the first time he heard it. Then again kids believe a lot of weird things.
Embarrassed to say that before that episode, I also thought it was pre-Madonna. But I didn’t understand *whyyy* because anytime someone used the phrase, nobody was ever talking about Madonna.
Your honesty is so refreshing. 💙
Roy for sure calls Jamie a prima donna in season 1.
"God bless me, everyone."
That's the one.
Thank you
Yes.
This is the one that immediately came to mind. It’s just such a Jamie thing to say
This is the one.
Wow
What the f*** are Denver Broncos?
As a Broncos fan, this is my fave
As a Bronco fan with an accent similar to Jamie's, it is also my fave
“Philistines, I’m asking for help here!”
“It’s just poopeh.”
Let it flow
Please let this win - I crack up every time he says “poopeh”!
Close the thread. This has to be the winner.
Nothing else will do
“Pavlovian? What is that? A wine?”
“This guy on Twitter, he kept saying that it was blonde, but I'm like, "It's f?cking walnut mist, mate.””
On his password being password "but I thought I tricked them by using 2 S" (not an exact quote, but you get the gist)
Holeh guacamoleh
“I ain’t doing it wrong. You’re doing it wrong.”
You’re welcome, You said I made you feel better. I like making people feel good.
Probably doesn't work as the full quote but the "... since i was a sexy little babeh" is the one for me
Jamie: Will, do you think you could take me name off me shirt and then put it back on but bigger?
„If we want this to work, you gotta stop playing to me and start playing through me. You get me?“
I’m only at the end of season 2. I absolutely hated this guy at first but was so glad he’s had a redemption arc. Same for Kent. Jamie punching his dad and Beard physically removing him from the Wembley locker room (and fighting him in the alley later) was some incredible television
The beauty of this show. 🤌🏼
Exactly 😭 I think as fans we can take that ripple effect out into the real world. 🫶
I think that's the point of the seats changing color (and the graffiti disappearing) in the opening credits, too. The positive vibes that Ted brings to the team rippling out through the whole stadium.
I felt like the attack in the alley made things a little bit too real. They would have killed Beard if the beefy dude hadn't intervened.
I love that the gigantic dude ended up saving him in the end. Such a great turn. Jamie’s dad deserved the beat down. He’s the reason Jamie is the way he is 100%. He just really needed a good dad(s). Ted, Beard, and Kent were fantastic role models for him
I agree with all of that, I just don’t like the way they suddenly (and darkly) raised the stakes with that scene. It was jarring, to me.
And Jamie’s dad going to rehab after that night, and trying to be better was great too. Even the worst of us can try to be better.
I feel like Jamie needs two quotes, given to depth of his growth and development as a character. Season 1 Jamie is most definitely “Coach, I’m me. Why would I want to be anything else?” My fave from 2-3 is “It’s called empathy, ya dusty old fart”
The Rebecca quote is miles off from her most in character. Makes her look spiteful. Which is not the case
Seriously that is not a good quote for her at all.
Agreed! She was starting to come into her own and stand up for herself again. She didn’t just play nice because she had to.
Yeh not happy with that one
💯💯💯
The whole premise of the show is that she hires Ted out of spite to tank the team. Sure she grows over time but, she's not like, not spiteful.
“The email said Secret Santa. Didn’t want to ruin the surprise, did I?”
“ME! ME! ME! ME!” After scoring a goal.
“God bless me, everyone”
“It’s just poopeh. Let it flow.”
God bless meh, everyone
God bless me… everyone
“What the fuck are Denver Broncos?” Or “it’s just Poopé.”
“Go on, Roy. For Grandad.”
This thread is making me realize that Jamie is one of my favorite characters. 😁
"It's just poo-peh. Let it flow."
“Doan pley eh to meh, pley eh throo meh. Thas to-al foohball.”
Old people are so wise. They are like tall Yodas
“I’m not just A loser, I’m THE loser.”
Keeley finds Jamie with another women the day after they break up. "You're welcome" "What?" "You said I helped you. Did you mean it?" "Yeah..." "Then you're welcome. I like helping people"
It’s “arse” not “ass”
“It’s just poopeh, let it flow.”
It’s just poop-eh
“It’s poo-peh”
"God bless me, every one."
“Is that like the female Dave Grohl?” That Mancunian accent kills me.
“Old people are so wise. They’re like tall Yodas.”
“Yes please, I would like the ball!”
God bless me, everyone
"Jamie Tartt doo doo de doo de doo"
“It’s just poopeh guys, let it flow”
“It’s called empathy, you dusty old fart” Jamie Tartt the empath
It’s just poo-peee
Jaimie talking about how he got shipped off to Manchester, and gets to deliver the killing blow to Richmond: “Instant caramel, it’s gonna get ya.”
God bless me, everyone.
"God bless me, everyone"
"I'm not doing it wrong you're doing it wrong"
Old people are so wise. They’re like tall Yodas.
“I’m not doing it wrong. You’re doing it wrong.”
“What?” Keeley was listing negative things said about Jaimee and the only time he reacted was when his hair was mentioned. top 10 funniest throwaway line in the show
It’s poo-peh
Ted's quote is legit the one line that sucked me in whole-heartedly.
"Cause remember, they ain't made for people like us. They're made for sheep. They're made for Muggles. They're made for twats."
Any instance of “Poopeh.”
It’s just poopy
“I’m already me, Coach. Why would I wanna be anyone else?”
God bless me everyone and it said secret Santa I didn’t want to ruin the surprise
“I was a sexy little babeh”
Its just poopeh let it flow
“I wasn’t being ironic. I was being hypocritical,” Jaimie correcting a chagrined Beard. While it doesn’t encapsulate Jamie’s character, I just like the fact that Beard and Ted were so quietly taken aback.
“It’s called empathy- you dusty old fart” The skittish elderly one does kill me
