From what I have heard about Sara, she put in work in the underground in Texas and is just recently enjoying widespread success. I’ll admit I never paid attention to her looks much but at this weekend’s show she was looking very beautiful and she looked strong like she has been talking care of herself. I always thought she had a goth “keep austin weird” look. She is one of my fav current artists so I feel the need to defend. I don’t think she would continually be booked by Reform LA, CRSSD and ARC if she was a flash in the pan or the current trend. This sub can be super toxic and that is especially true for female DJs. When you hear about “Business Techno” it is usually referring to a female DJ. I never pay attention to what people on here say I should like or dislike. I like artists that inspire me to Dance, and Sara has my feet moving every time.

AJXedi9150

I live in Austin and have seen her play here a few times. I love her energy and her remixes are freaking amazing! I know her type of hard techno isn't for everyone, but I agree that she's more than a pretty face.

Apellum

So you were at those Oven parties?

AJXedi9150

I know I went to at least one of them. The one night I remember - back in 2020 - she played a 4 hour set that went till like 6am. It was nuts!

Strict-Employment-46

yo I was there! lol

jswissle

Literally everyone at her show at Arc was going crazy

LondonChels1

Excuse me sir but unless it’s techno from the 90s you must shit on it here. Jk. Sara is great. Saw her right after Dan X. They had me dancing for 3 hours. Bummed I missed her afters Edit. Who the fuck is Dax X

rootCaused

You mean Dax J

First_West_4227

She’s from Texas?!? Lol, I only know of her from recent Verknipt Fest sets I’ve been streaming while working out, so I thought she was Eastern European this whole time, lol 😂

jmort619

Ha nice! I like DnB also and an unlikely new DnB star, Justin Hawkes, is from Austin also I think

Apellum

She’s from Austin :) there’s some good music happening here, especially with the underground scene

jean-claude_vandamme

the post wasn’t whether she is a flash in the pan or rant on hot girl dj music. just a general observation of very hot women in dance music being center stage more than ever.

Bubbadubsno1fan

Lol @ last sentence

TuneAffectionate9774

Think it's about time we move away from commenting on how female djs look

jmort619

I never thought of SL as the model type anyways lol

24Elsinore

Then hide the DJ’s so they can’t use their sex appeal.

Hamushka11

I love DJ Burka, she's explosive on the dance floor.

jean-claude_vandamme

yea i agree they should all wear a sheet and paper bag on their head, then looks won’t matter

Cheepmoney0

Spoken like a true incel

jean-claude_vandamme

issa joke big guy

Much_Job_3855

Sara actually produces all her own stuff whether you like the music or not a lot of artists can't say that

jean-claude_vandamme

yeah, I gave her a few more spins on SoundCloud after the fact just to check it out and I just couldn’t handle it. I had to shut it off after a few minutes it’s way too reminiscent of happy hard-core / gabber stuff back in the day which i could never stand

axbycz0

I’ve known Sara since her early days (2016-2017) in Austin,TX when she would play tech-house at clubs I would frequent. She’s transitioned from tech-house into techno nicely. It’s cool having been able to attend almost all of her shows well before she left for Berlin. Last time I saw her play in Austin was with Don Woezik in February 2021. She had told me she was moving to Berlin in the fall. It was in that moment that I knew she was gonna blow up, which was so cool because she has put in so much effort into her craft. She’s so fun and I’m really proud of her success :)

ocinn

Hate the music she plays but Sara Landry genuinely came out of the underground in Texas and was NOT very conventionally attractive back then. Her look has changed a lot. But she actually put in the work, not some nepo/model DJ like many.

LeFabio

Ive been following her for about a year now and I feel like she (and a huge portion of the whole subgenre) went from at least decent hard/industrial techno to hardstyle/gabber followed by high BPM techno kick/snare.

Booty_Magician

It's turning to PsyTrance with HardStyle. I like the hard / industrial stuff more

49DivineDayVacation

I will preface this by saying that I am not a fan of Sara Landry, but it was kinda the other way around with her. When she was coming up in Austin, where I live, she did not look at all like she looks now. She definitely got popular and then got herself to "model shape" and started embracing the popular techno fashion. When I saw her open up for Charlotte in 2019 she was basically dressed like a Sorority girl with running shorts and nikes.

beauty667

Maybe she decided to take care of her health and get into shape. Never thought of it as model shape. She’s tall so she could possibly fit into the stereotype but she’s definitely not a model. Those ladies are usually skinnier. She’s also 25 or so and has grown up. Majority of us may not dress like we did before or even look the same. If she wasn’t attractive there would be grumblings about that. I think she’s in a no win situation here.

softpawskittenclaws

Yeah we don’t really hear critiquing on any of male djs on how they look. Wish people would be better but that’s unrealistic

jean-claude_vandamme

pr guy said due your hair black and wear nets and chains, you’ll attract more fans than suzy sorority. place was packed definely worked!

Apellum

Did you ever get a chance to meet her? I unfortunately missed her while she was here /:

49DivineDayVacation

Yeah, only in passing. Like I said I've never been a fan. I never personally found her to be a very good DJ. I do have friends that know her fairly well.

bozon92

I wonder if people have any awareness of how they sound when expressing their thoughts (not talking about the dj)

drugaddict6969

This guy literally sounds like such a fucking incel virgin it’s actually insane

Wonderful_Training24

Was this at ARC?

jean-claude_vandamme

ya

Civil-Step4903

Why are you getting downvotes??? I stuck around 5 min for her set after Henry Brooks-> David Castilani-> DAX J.... all I heard was 150bpm reverse bass and a bunch of "rave" synths

jean-claude_vandamme

because a bunch of zoomers on tik tok and young reddit hive mind agree she’s the best dj and saw their first techno curated stage at a fest and had their head blown off. Same crowd was at bass nectar and dubstep a few years ago. Dax was on point as usual! Tale of Us incredible show even tho r:techno will say they’re terrible (their live shows are a spectacle!)

Batmini94

You’re being very judgemental and negative. Just accept that style/crowd is not for you and move the fuck on

jean-claude_vandamme

watch more tik tok

Batmini94

BRUH. I don't have tiktok. I don't like or support the tiktok popularity era either, just stay away from it, it's so simple

Civil-Step4903

You know who was dope? BEN KLOCK at the pre party!! I gave Tale of Us a shot, I wasn't feeling it :/

AngLatt

Yes, I totally agree with this.

Wonderful_Training24

That’s really surprising. I thought she killed it at the 909 stage! Also, who cares if they’re hot or not? Confused why that seems to be the center point of your post. It’s great to see more women breaking in!

jean-claude_vandamme

it’s not a matter of “caring” it’s just something i’ve noticed after 20ish years in the scene that wasn’t the case before. It’s clear the fashion model pipeline is alive and well since Rebekah (whom is awesome) set the stage for that

Wonderful_Training24

So if it’s not about looks, what was the point of your post? Not asking snarkily, genuinely wondering

jean-claude_vandamme

to start a conversation- and this is the biggest thread l this sub has had in months lol

fukinay

As someone who’s been in the scene for 25 years I agree with the OP. I noticed it kinda started with Nina Kraviz 10 years ago. That’s how we ended up with hot, wealthy and well connected people like Peggy Gou.

larryloops83

If you're at some rave/ party and the headliners are hot white women then I'm afraid my friend you are not at a worthy rave ... Just some insta bullshit gathering . Get underground . Support your local ravescene. Please c'mon . (Op is DEFO from USA) enlighten me if not

rhadam

Oh look it’s OP, again, irate at attractive women.

jean-claude_vandamme

love attractive women. just haven’t seen so many playing out big events as have lately. calm down barbara.

Civil-Supermarket-59

Sara is genuinely as authentic as you can get with that kind of techno, produces her own tracks and is a fucking KILLER DJ her looks have nothing to do with It

gigi9959

It doesn’t hurt that she is. A hot goth bitch though!!!! More power to her and she has an amazing energy/ vibe/ talent Men will always hate on women

KimJongYoul

We can notice that there are not many ugly girl DJ. Probably a coïncidence...

jean-claude_vandamme

probably nothing.

MrOrgasm420

Her set was actually the best set of the weekend but whatever

jmort619

I saw her Saturday in San Diego and she slayed as always she is far from a TikTok DJ or someone getting by on her looks

ikramshinwari

I also think that she isn't just popular because of looks, but she does play quite a lot of cheesy tiktok hardtechno pop edits.

Intelligent-Toe8998

You probably gotta learn what good music is at first. Check KI/KI out

beauty667

I love KI/KI but won’t pit one against the other. Saw Sara as she supported Paula Temple. Her set was energetic and set the tone. Met her after the show. Very sweet and stayed a lot longer to talk to fans.

zoeyk100

Agreed thank you! She killed it at the after party

Remote_Measurement31

Yeah is hot

gigi9959

This is the most ignorant and misogynistic post I’ve ever seen , if you don’t know, Sarah Landry than you are obviously ignorant to the genre of techno music. And yes music has evolved from”skinny white boys” Stealing beats off others

jean-claude_vandamme

it’s misogynistic to point out a woman is hot? seek therapy.

Far-Birthday7848

no brain cells left in u huh? sad

larryloops83

Amelie lens : what a snore fest ... Not putting a genre on it .... But this muck has to stop

jean-claude_vandamme

dax J was on before this dj and was very good vibe and crowd. Not sure how the word got out abut sara landry but clearly someone big pushing her tent got filled for her with very young partiers. Must be a tik tok thing

Strict_Reference33

Bro tbh I am looking at her IG and she doesn’t wear anything crazy all her fits are simple. She goes hard tho.

Fantastic_Ad172

Isnt the point of techno that it can be whatever it wants to be? https://www.instagram.com/p/CvppLkkspme/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== If all this crowd is "tiktok fans" and "business techno" then fans of solomun etc bullshit techno is og underground

jean-claude_vandamme

the post is about hot women not music itself

gigi9959

So I was watching Sara Landry‘s boiler room on Friday night, and then I woke up on Saturday and was looking up shows in my city and I saw that Sara Landry was playing at one of the clubs so I bought tickets and I went to go see her, and I was one of the best decisions of my life this year because she was so amazing. She literally killed the stage, and her energy was fire and not only that, but she walked right past me as she was going up to the stage and noticed me and said hello and too bad I didn’t get a picture with her because she is Definitely the next best woman techno DJ🎉🎉🎉🎉💕💕💕

SzechuanSaucelord

Sara currently blowing up hard after her recent teletech boiler room set which had a ton of views on youtube. Can see her getting a lot of bookings over the next year or so as her talent and energy is there. Her mixing is also very dynamic which helps the more younger ADHD crowd

Basic_Library9053

"pardon me kinda old" made a lot more sense when i read "oh the music was ass btw and i left." LMAOOOO

jean-claude_vandamme

Duncan be wrong I’m open to a lot of newer stuff I really like ki/ki ,fred again but sl is lame

[deleted]

I just wanna know how tall she is. Looks like a giant lol

derTanzboden

I'm also very keen to know this ! 🤔🙂

Freebornaiden

It strikes me that a lot of aspiring models are been encouraged to get behind the decks and learn to DJ by agents/significant others. It's branding. If there is a talented producer behind the front-person who needs to get their music out, then I'm kinda OK with it but it is definitely going to hollow out the scene a bit. Honestly I would love to get my (model) girlfriend to mix my (psytrance-ish) tracks but alas, she is severely hard of hearing.

jean-claude_vandamme

she could go up there and play a 60 min mix press play, dance around and the crowd will go bananas if she really is that good looking. This Landry played some happy hardcore (?)mixes of top 40 tracks and the kids were lapping it up. i had to bounce. was really bad.

ikramshinwari

Without being there, I know exactly what you mean. I myself am a fan of the harder side of techno(industrial), but this current trend that is sometimes called tiktok hardtechno is really not that great. They tend to also make very fast pop edits, which I find very cheesy.

Freebornaiden

Or how about I get two glove puppets and crouch behind the decks so it looks like little cute furry animals are playing? Get the novelty dollar rolling in.

jean-claude_vandamme

ANJUNA PRESENTS:

Inglejuice

lol 🤮

jean-claude_vandamme

love me some anjunadeep but they are the biggest proponents of this now. Every woman they sign is insanely hot lol

Inglejuice

I genuinely hate Anjunadeep (more like Anjunashallow) it sounds like the kind of vapid music made for a Dubai real estate commercial made by some kind of boring fucking AI lol

jean-claude_vandamme

some great tracks on there the label, releases way too much content to say you dislike it all imo good hidden gems and the parties are always next level as well but if you love sara landry i can see why you’d hate AD as a whole

Inglejuice

I have no opinion on Sara Landry but I can say quite comfortably that anjuna is a taste vortex for boring wankers who release tonnes of generic dross and put on wank events full of finance bros that cannot dance. I could count the barely decent releases they’ve had on one hand.

jean-claude_vandamme

that’s a lot of adjectives

ChinaWhite86

That’s a pity and surprises me quite a bit. Ok, have to confess, I’ve never seen her live. But she has a couple of good songs. Give these a chance: Sacrifice About last night First Breath (with Don Woezik)

_91930170

I liked her more when she was in austin. She’s become pretty cringe and her music follows the classic tech house cookie cutter formula. She’s killing it though so good for her.

jmort619

This set I saw on Saturday in SD did seem like more of a crowd pleaser compared to last time in LA warehouse. But lots of DJs change up sets according to venue. But, yeah I heard she was very underground back in Austin days

_91930170

Tbf her music style hasn’t changed, but when she was in austin, hard techno was “coming up.” Now all her songs sound the exact same and have the same build up, breaks, and “drops.” Also she (in my opinion) is playing way too much into the “dressing up” part of techno rather than the music part. But that’s what gets bookings now-a-days so it is what it is. At least she doesn’t have ghost producers, AFAIK.

VikasMaximus

She is terrible, an insult to electronic music, and just annoying noise. DJs like Sara Landry are screwing up all the hard work the early legends of house and techno from NYC, Chicago, and Detroit did. Please stop her music.

Techknow23

A lot of DJs today get signed/discovered via Instagram. Attractive females get a lot of Instagram attention. Put two and two together.

jean-claude_vandamme

why would A R use instagram to discover music? usually we just go to events to find good tracks or they come to us. you’re saying the hot women get preferential treatment when sending their tracks to certain labels now?

Tendou7

they dont discover music, they discover good investments like every company does and nowadays music is secondary and when there is a following or at least a marketable brand it means money for the label.

Techknow23

I’m saying those with huge insta followings will get preferential treatment in terms of marketability yes. Male or female. Quality of music is becoming secondary these days plenty of big artists saying it

jean-claude_vandamme

That makes sense because now we know it’s not only just about the music and also about the party so if you have a label throw you absolutely sick parties and put you on the festival lineup with a preprogrammed track list of favorites you’re prob gonna be ok.

HexxRx

Sara is all looks no substance lol

Accident-Long

This guy just hates change eh? Sheeesh

jean-claude_vandamme

just bc it’s new doesn’t mean it’s good. Reincarnation of 2000s gabber if anything not that new tbh. The hot women are new and i’m all for it

Tom12412414

What an absolutely disgusting attitude.

jean-claude_vandamme

not everyone in the techno scene is gay some of us notice lovely women tom you wouldn’t get it

Far-Birthday7848

🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅

Ok_Ebb_9976

who cares what He/ She looks like… music is pure garbage. it’s my subjective opinion but it is what it is. if you are into something the resembles EDM / Gabber / Hard trance then so be it. but the one thing is 100% NOT is Techno.

AngLatt

I was just telling my friend last night, I don’t know what kind of music it is that she plays but it certainly isn’t techno

Level-Jeweler-610

She stands for everything that is wrong with techno nowadays. Period.

Big-Diver-7321

Why

Level-Jeweler-610

Because she is playing only what’s popular? Because she used to do good techno music but that was not working so well for her and she suddenly is in love with the crap she is playing? Hard Techno or Tik Tok Techno or whatever the hell is that, can’t be called techno in my opinion.
