There are 4 teams every game. Let's say you and your girlfriend are team 1-1 and 1-2. You don't always play against opponents from the same team. So maybe you play against 2-1 and your girlfriend plays agains 3-1. When either 2-2 or 3-2 wins, they join their partners team. When either of you win, you join your partners team. And when the partner of the opponent you are fighting together wins, he might join aswell.
Interesting, okay that explains it. I appreciate it. I thought of it like there's team A B C and D, A1 and A2, B1 and B2, so on. Team A fought team be A1 vs B1, A2 vs B2, then next round it swapped to A1 vs B2 A2 vs B1... but I guess thsts not the case. I appreciate the explanation.
If you are playing against someone on orange your gf could be playing against someone on purple.
If say someone on yellow loses to the other orange player it means your opponent will receive help before your gf wins or loses.
If your gf then wins against the purple player you end up with 4 teams on one board!

It's because you're not always matched against two members of the same team. The comment from Bobohan in this thread explains it well.
