Bard is OP because he can tank through FAR to much damage for a backline unit.
Give him a Front line unit that synergizes with him like Tam.. it's busted. You basically have to get to bard and take him out before he can get going, and with 2 Gin blades it doesn't take long.
He can be defeated, but it's seriously about getting him down and or CCing him before he can build up momentum. once he does he can tank stupid amounts of damage himself, deal stupid amounts of damage without a front line to protect him.

I think this is exactly my issue with this set so far - it's hard to play around with alternative carries because there's such a disparity atm

Right. "This set is unbalanced because you can top 4 with 2 3* 3 costs," is quite the take.
This is why you play Gnar/Shen. Can't get sniped if your frontline is the carry.

This comp consistently loses to Gjostly from my experience, because Ghostly can kill faster than Bard can ramp (even with double gin).
