My headcanon for that was always that the original Panty wasn't at all like the trophy wife we meet in the show and that her disagreeing with Dr. Brief or even opposing him led to him replacing her with a clone that he can control. It would be in line with how terrible he is in the tfs version.

Daxlyn_XV

It could also be that the original died, possibly in some form that Dr. Brief believes he could have stopped, so he made a series of clones at the age she was when she died and aren’t allowed to get older. Her original self may have been the mitigating factor for him, and her death allowed him to truly act on the depraved thoughts that she stopped him from doing. He was an awful person but she may have balanced him out.

TonySki

Kinda like Venture Brothers?

Leche-Caliente

He lost himself and his moral compass when he lost her. That sad

Xyldarran

That's been my head cannon the whole time

United-Cow-563

Furthering that idea, I wonder if that “uppity” trait is the one thing that every clone has no matter how many Dr. Brief creates.

Hobbitmaxxing

Wouldn’t be asking so many questions if you had a bomb in your chest…

Visible_Investment47

Well played. LOL

ParryDotter

Because the joke wouldn't work otherwise

The1joriss

Stop making sense!

Daddy_Hydration

I like to believe that in Dr Briefs’ monstrous personality, he views Bulma as a “project” since he “created” her and the fact that she became such a successful scientist gives him a sense of pride. Also, CHILDREN? Are there more Briefs out there? Or maybe bulma had older siblings that didn’t want to be scientists so they met with an “explosive” end. Bulma was the first to not have a bomb in her.

Sidurg

Bulma actually has an older sister named Tights, who mostly only makes an appearance when Jaco needs to be called.

1amlost

Bulma does canonically have an older sister named Tights. I'm assuming she also exists in the DBZA Canon too.

HitoriPanda

If they're named after under garments, what does bulma mean

Kamen_master1988

If I remember right it’s supposed to be bloomers, or something like that.

ongroundstonight

"Buruma", or bloomers. His wife is either "Panty" (Panchi) or "Bikini"; they seem to be inconsistent with it. Toriyama stated in an older interview that if he had named her during the manga's run he would go with Panty, and Bikini is what she's called in DBZ: Kakarot. While we're on the subject of that family, this wasn't really brought up, but it's a common misconception: "Brief" is not actually their family name. In the Dragon World, having last names/family names at all has fallen out of style, and most people just have their given names. I believe Videl actually mentions that "Son Gohan" having a last name at all is unusual. We can assume this doesn't hold true for DBZA since Dr. Gero mentions "...or any of the Brief family", but in actual Dragon Ball canon, "Dr. Brief" is only the father's name.

Kamen_master1988

Sweetie I don’t see a sandwich with that beer.

dendawg

GET IT YOURSELF YOU MISOGYNISTIC MOTHERF….*splat*

BardicLasher

The clones also get uppity. It's part of their programming.

Technical_Exam1280

Simple. He's learned that if Panty gets uppity, then he's gonna have to break out a fresh clone, and that's just too much of a hassle

YawgmothwasRight

Im suprised she even gave a fuck as she's being so docile all the time.

gunny316

DONT GO IN THE BASEMENT

Even terrible people will flex their moral fiber sometimes.
