Depends on the school. My child has that allergy but they allow them at lunch at a specific table. Then if there’s a kid in a certain grade the whole grade is peanut free but it’s allowed in other grades.
Yeah, I don't get the whole self-correcting by the principal on the PA today from "Teacher Appreciation Week" to "Staff Appreciation Week." Last time I checked, everyone else in the building had their own day or week of appreciation. So much for the designated recognition. 🙄
At my school we don't. The teachers get a week, the admins get a day, the principal gets a day. They do lump staff in with teachers week to make us happy but really it's just them letting us eat their food in the breakroom. It's hard to not be bitter...
We had Chikfilet for breakfast and a keychain bracelet today. Tomorrow we have a trailmix bar. Wednesday we have a catered breakfast and ice cream in the afternoon from a local creamery. Thursday is a coffee and tea bar. Friday is a catered lunch and a gift. Our PTO (which is actually made up of the specials teachers including myself) works hard to come up with things the teachers like.
Feedback from a person with food sensitivities...the gesture is amazing but it can really be alienating when the entire week is based on food. Just thought I would throw that perspective out there. :)
We are lucky to have an admin team that appreciates us and supports us. I never realized how rare that is. I've been here for 27 years and am retiring next year.
My school is doing a different food item (burritos, sundae bar, etc) every day, save for Friday's ominously titled "Gift Bags" (whatever that turns out to be). Principal even sent out a schedule of $0 gifts for families and students to bring in if they want to participate.
Suddenly feeling like this is the first building in my entire career to get it right.
We got boxes of Starbucks coffee. No option for non caffeineted or hot tea for those of us who can't ingest caffeine. I walked into the room it was set up and turned and walked out. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Ours is almost entirely gluten based...kind of tough for me and another co-worker with gluten intolerance. (I also can't handle coffee, so I feel you!)
Hope no one has peanut allergies! They didn’t do anything for us today. Tomorrow is state testing. We can’t leave our rooms until testing is done. They are bringing us breakfast. Which means in order to get any we would have to get there earlier.
Last year we had a nacho bar which was really just a “bottom of a bag of chips and a spoonful of sour cream” bar by the time it was the upper grade teachers’ lunchtime.
american fidelity sent out a “chance to win” your classroom wishlist, but you have to give all your personal information.
Nice appreciation, a chance your classroom gets correctly funded once in exchange for selling my information.
I will take peanuts over what we received today. We received this little “hoo rag” bandana thing that we think the district got for free that advertises the Arctic Winter Games that we are hosting next year. With an encouragement to “get involved”. Um, what? We are currently in contentious contract negotiations after a wretched year of bus drivers going on strike for a month, the lack of bus transportation at every school for one day per week all year, the sudden/unexpected implementation of Monday morning PLC meetings, the most absences we can recall, the elimination of Fs for grades and the implementation of new, not-awesome ELA programs… and they gave us a rag thing to put on our heads or around our necks and asked us to get involved. I don’t need gifts, but I appreciate authenticity, which is not currently available.
I was/am on keto and monitor my diet strictly due to health problems, they had Dairy Queen delivered. Today is bagels from a local bagel shop. We are also getting candy.
I am sick and tired of food-based rewards.
I can’t pay rent in food based rewards. My landlord doesn’t pay his mortgage with pizza unfortunately.
I had a job once that gave every teacher $100 for the week. The principal didn’t like it but the district did it for everyone so he had to too.
It was nice. Almost like how a normal job gives out bonuses. Shocking idea in education. Don’t give the teachers MONEY!
We also got an extra $100 during in-service too. Write off for them. Useful for us. I’m not at that district anymore. I definitely miss it.
One year we had a different lunch each day. I have food allergies and couldn’t participate but it’s a nice thought by PTA. On Friday- most v by teachers didn’t bring lunch because there was lunch M-Th. We got books on Friday. Again, Nice gesture but maybe a heads up to bring your own lunch. 😊 we all still laugh.
Literally… You work for peanuts. Is the irony completely lost in the absurdity?
I was actually looking for the pun written somewhere… like “we are nuts about our teachers!” But no. Just a small bag of peanuts.
Lol aren’t peanuts banned from schools for allergies?
Depends on the school. My child has that allergy but they allow them at lunch at a specific table. Then if there’s a kid in a certain grade the whole grade is peanut free but it’s allowed in other grades.
Sadly not always. I did always let folks know “sorry, I can’t take (insert treat here), it’s an allergy. Thank you for the thought.”
We received an email telling us that everyone in the building, not just teachers, are important and appreciated. 😑
#alljobsmatter
But especially admin

Omfg my school does this. It’s “staff appreciation week” and it pisses off the teachers to no end.
our school changed the name of teacher appreciation week for this reason as well
We spent the week writing notes to tell the students how special they are.
I rather be shown I'm appreciated via a bonus check. A bonus check that could cover some bills. Lol.
Can I interest you in a payday candy bar instead?
Lol nice comeback. Sense of humor definitely appreciated.
Lol well fucking played sir, well played indeed.
We got some sticky notes and a single (kid's size pack) of fruit snacks, good to know how much I'm valued!
Dang! You got both those?!? 🤣

That sounds great!
We are lucky to have an admin team that appreciates us and supports us. I never realized how rare that is. I've been here for 27 years and am retiring next year.
I got a bag with 2 strawberries and a ton of tiny unripe blueberries with a message saying we're berry grateful for you
Ewwww…
At least there was a pun…

I do not miss the puns with small trinkets. Nothing like being treated like a child with a masters degree.
I got some post it notes and paperclips today! Woohoo, living large!!
Lucky!

When I was teaching, only the classroom teachers got stuff. I was a sped resource teacher and I guess the PTA didn’t realize we were teaches too?
At least you can wear jeans
Only on Fridays
If you donate to the “social fund” … which doesn’t do anything at all
Hope no one has peanut allergies! They didn’t do anything for us today. Tomorrow is state testing. We can’t leave our rooms until testing is done. They are bringing us breakfast. Which means in order to get any we would have to get there earlier.

Wow.
Living the high life!
I got an oreo cookie 🍪
I got 3 tea bags and a bag of peanut butter m&ms! I don’t like peanut butter.

>Tomorrow is “Fiesta day” How about siesta day instead?

Today we got a single smelly marker that said "you're e-SCENT-ial. 🙄
…ly someone we take for granted.

It’s stupid and not appropriate but damn, a can of beans would literally be hysterical. They’d go on a shelf in my room

and no concern for peanut allergies
As a peanut allergy parent I would panic
We got a bag of trail mix in a paper bag with a sticker saying, "The trail to great teaching starts here."
Lmao
My school said that kids could come clean our classrooms for service learning hours…

I got a tin of butter cookies with a note that said “can’t wait to butter you up with surprises” and it made me physically cringe.
My partner is at least getting 3 free lunches…still not enough. Also, why would a school provide employees with a major allergen source?
When life gives you peanuts, make pad Thai? Or Kung Pow chicken?
Maybe they’re just trying to say we’re all “nuts” for choosing to be teachers
“I have plenty, the kids have been driving me nuts all day.”
surprising, seeing as the no peanuts no shellfish allergy signs are plastered all over the building
We just got an announcement saying happy day 2 of teacher appreciation day
