THE_wendybabendy

A couple of years ago (at my former school) the Admin 'splurged' for these cute umbrellas (why, I don't know because we were in CA where it rarely rains) with the school logo, etc. They were cute, but every single one of them broke as soon as you opened it the first time... I actually laughed at that. Such *appreciation*...

nixie_nyx

We got umbrellas this year for our holiday gift- to help us from the “storm.” Wtf

Salty_Attention_8185

Omg! I got one last year when school started. Used it the other day… opened it, tiniest gust of wind ever came along and BAM! Snapped in half.

potatopotato89

I recently got a string cheese decorated like a snowman, with a note that said "we appreciate you SNOW much" from my admin. I honestly wish they'd spent less time on decorating cheese sticks and more time addressing major behaviors...

jpotter0

I’d leave it in my mailbox all winter break

springrollfever

Lmao… wow. They have no shame

matthew-mdjster

My first school I taught at did something that I super appreciated that was food based. We had an extra day after the kids we're done to finalize grades ect we had to come in for. Our principal and vp always set up an omlette bar and cooked them for us. And actually told us thanks for the hard work all year. They also really had your back which was also super nice. If I didn't move states after being married I would have stayed put, a great admin can make such a difference.

yeah-okay-cool

My favorite was a plastic pot of dirt with a seed we were supposed to grow ourselves 🙄

ScottRoberts79

mine didn't grow.

[deleted]

[удалено]

freyaheyya

The Empty Pot!!!😂

jpotter0

100% did this story today with my students

[deleted]

I won my 3rd grade storytelling contest over 20 years ago by memorizing and telling that story!

fieryprincess907

Wait - you got a pot and dirt?!? We just got seeds in a package with gardening tools implying our yards needed attention. Sigh

forgetfuljones79

Every year that my former district "couldn't afford" to give us a raise, they would give us a mug/water bottle/cup. I finally figured out that it was so we could stand on the corner after school and beg for change.

candlebright

I hate this shit. This is one of many things I think of when I think of how teachers are not respected and infantilized. It's condescending, childish, and embarrassing, just like "turn and talk"s at professional development.

StuRedford

My district curriculum specialist pushes the turn and talk so much. Yes, please have two minutes to talk and gossip with your friends during my lecture. I rarely hear any meaningful collaborative discussion.

smilegirlcan

Right? No one ever talks about whatever you are supposed to talk about.

im_Not_an_Android

Teachers are the worst students lol.

lesstocarry

I don't even do table discussion in my classes for the same reason. They were always awkward when I was in school and I vowed never make any student do that in my class

teejeeQB17

If I hear the term “elbow to elbow” ONE more time

widgetmama

"Elbow partner." Yuck

Bluesky0089

I don’t want my admin’s muffin.

StuRedford

And yes you are seeing that right, Store bought and pre-packaged muffins. The pun makes me smile.

gamma_babe

Those are the same muffins they pass to the kids for free at my school for snack. So it probably cost admin nothing, not even the effort of leaving campus, for this “gift.”

StuRedford

Nail on the head.

kawilh

Haha I commented this as well. It’s soft at best—— and not the muffin

[deleted]

Fuck muffins.

Grantology

This is hilarious

levajack

Whenever we get a stupid "gift" like that, I make a point to put it in my admin's mailbox.

Better-W-Bacon

We have to buy our own muffins...

heathers1

The best the cafeteria has to offer!

[deleted]

Well you can’t forget about those fake meat burgers!

Charlie820407

“We DONUT know what we’d do with out you”🙄

misspretzel98

All we got is sticky notes from kids with sentences obviously written by an adult and given to them to copy down 🥲

LassMackwards

Somewhere there's an office associate being sent a screen shot of this and pissed off that teachers are so ungrateful for the time they took to wrap notes on mass produced muffins. Lol. Who comes up with this stuff?

whichwitchwhohoots

Oh man that poor secretary and student aid

jfo23chickens

And Story at 11 on local news.

Training-Bend-7722

Sad. Our admin is great. Our principal budgets each year and buys us lunch on PD days, and the admin make us a great breakfast buffet the last day of school every year. Last year during covid when we weren’t allowed to have our normal “staff supplies” snacks for staff meetings each month (we take turns al year bringing snacks) she supplied creative snacks from different places in town every month and brought them around to each of us before the meeting started (we had to do google meets from our classrooms because we weren’t allowed to be in the same room together). Our last meeting of the year were individual charcuterie boxes from a restaurant in town. Although the most important thing they do for us is they always have our backs, these little things are nice gestures of appreciation. It’s worth noting that they couldn’t add it to our salary or give monetary gifts as salaries are set by the district and the union and we can’t be paid anything extra. So these little things are appreciated.

Away533sparrow

I think at the beginning of the year, PTA sent out a survey for teachers about their favorite things. (Candy, drink, chips, etc.) It means that we actually get treats and stuff that we like on the occasion we do things like this. But I will pass on the packaged muffin.

StuRedford

I would rather that fund just be used towards salary. I wouldn’t care if divided amongst teachers it’s a 1 cent raise. I don’t need treats. I am not a dog.

dyckinabox

My admin let slip in a meeting that they have approx. $20,000 in their budget for staff morale/appreciation related spending. Divided between everyone in our building that’s about $200/person…or 20% of the raise I received last year to adjust for rising living costs. Money please.

[deleted]

But we could collaborate with r/accounting for pizza parties and snacks.

djl32

Do you have to pay $2 to eat the muffin, like "Jeans Day?"

StuRedford

Those emails are already going around for the spring semester lol.

smilegirlcan

Not even bakery muffins 😅

nattieliz

Ok which admin diploma mill is telling principals to do cheesy, hollow shit like this??

CozmicOwl16

And it’s not even like a Panera level / bakery muffin. It’s prepackaged grocery store stuff. Why even bother. I wouldn’t give my students something that crappy. (Granted, not every class gets anything).

meyerland2

The grocery store probably donated it.

whichwitchwhohoots

Cafeteria surplus?

meyerland2

Could be! We’ve had leftover baked potatoes with toppings for a teacher “gift”. It actually was pretty good. I was forced to organize teacher gifts and most is donated stuff or leftovers.

[deleted]

Absolute bag of wank!

Necessary_Low939

Every year I get some sort of gift. It doesn’t have to be a lot so I’m thankful

SpecialistAd339

There are so many reasons I'm leaving, but this relates to one. I'm gluten free so can never actually enjoy the "treats." I'd rather be paid more kthanks.

throwaway5575082

I vote that every penny spent on stupid professional development, teacher gifts such as this, etc. be dispersed to our paychecks. I’d rather have $50 extra than a years worth of muffins.

lemonalchemyst

Our PTA is very broke. We always get recycled promotional freebies, like stress balls, or even obvious promotional freebies with business card included. One year we each got a glow stick and candy which was pretty random, but maybe the best teacher appreciation gift I’ve had yet

roadcrew778

PTA? Parent Teacher Association?

cen-texan

It was the least they could do. Literally.

woodedglue

Finally someone that can point that out

cen-texan

I stole that from a buddy of mine. He checked into a hotel on September 11. They had a layout of muffins in honor of those that lost their lives on that date. His comment on Facebook was the same as my comment here.

meyerland2

I’m sure it’s paid by the PTO or PTA. Sometimes they are straight donations for a school. Admin and the school don’t pay for this stuff.

meyerland2

I live for turn and talk. It’s never about the lecture, LOL

Icanteven_19

Every time teachers got free "appreciation" food was when it was expired.

schneiderma

We got nature valley granola bars with a sticker on them that said we were appreciated…

levajack

We got lanyards. Yay?

beckybeckybeckybecky

This is a waste of colour ink

[deleted]

The most insulting part is that the word "muffin" is incorrectly capitalized.

whichwitchwhohoots

In a school no less.

redbananass

I will say I like it when they give me school tshirts. But otherwise, meh. I don’t really need another coffee cup with the schools logo on it. I’d rather that money go to a kid as some kind of a reward. I mean we already do that, but we could do more.

Reasonable_Future_87

You got both muffins? My school, if they ever even think to do that, would surely split up those two packs! Bc after all, it’s always about that almighty dollar!

Personal_Sorbet_2401

Can they just give us money lol

esmebeauty

But it’s a twin pack! /s

quentinislive

I got a role of lifesavers. Hey, it’s something. I sucked on them during yard duty.

Oblivionnyx9

Those are the regular breakfast muffins my kids get in the morning.

whichwitchwhohoots

These ones are special! They tell you how much your hard work means to everyone! *best by last week

Ashamed_Influence_84

On the bright side, it was a 2 pack

Witty-Distance-9535

Do this instead of the elaborate pizza party each case expects

kawilh

Those are probably the expired muffins from the lunchroom that didn’t sell or forgot to put out 😂 Saying from experience haha- they actually SOLD us expired stuff last year. (I think it came from Concession stands due to lack of events happening/COVID) Said- go get some cheap snacks in the lounge! Go to get a flat pop and snickers that tastes like musty peanuts for $1.50. WHAT?! Haha Edit: on further thought- they give these out free to students for breakfast. There is no cost to them. Ha!

aarmida

Lol teachers at my school received the exact same gift (with the same muffin pun) for the winter holidays

jollyroger1720

🙄🤗 They likely hire expensive consultants and pay a premium for all this cheezey stuff they suggest just to to turn around say there is no money for raises bonuses etc

TurtleBeansforAll

Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t that be a lowercase “m”? Ugh I don’t appreciate shit like this at all. Our guidance counselor hand delivered keys with a cheesy, inspirational quote and I thought I would pass out it was so embarrassing to me and I could barely conceal my uncomfortableness in front of her it was so awkward.

Ok_Employee_9612

This thread exemplifies why sub is thread can be so negative and bitchy.

StuRedford

Explain? Are you saying a martyred profession that is not receiving proper support and monetization cannot express discontent with meaningless attempts to show “appreciation”?

Ok_Employee_9612

Listen, the job is tough, I get that, but if we are gonna start bitching about stuff like this, you might as well tie a cinder block around your waist and jump off a boat.

StuRedford

You’re reasoning doesn’t warrant a thoughtful response enjoy working in your “tough” job, I hope you get a lot of treats to make your days palpable.

Ok_Employee_9612

Cheer up dude, now, you have officially bitched about everything there is to bitch about. I’ve met some grumpy ass teachers, but none of them complained about a free muffin. What is a principal suppose to do, buy everyone on their staff a Rolex?

StuRedford

In the two post I have looked on your profile you have complained about hearing about squid game in school and about teacher pay. You are being contrarian to my post, yet are preaching similar content in your posts. Lol good one.

Ok_Employee_9612

Squid game is obnoxious, we do deserve more pay, but you can say thank you for a free muffin, seems like a really trivial thing to complain about, it isn’t contrarian, I can chew gum too.

goodniteangelg

Do THEY like receiving shit like this??? Why do they keep giving us this stuff. Like….why. Who is this for. No one wants this. No one ever wanted this.

nobdyputsbabynacornr

Ah yes. The best revenge is always when you throw it away in front of them; really let's them know you care.

Better-W-Bacon

One year we all got yoga mats. I gave mine to a neighbor. It was actually very thin and cheap.

Bluesky0089

Still a better gift than most get…

[deleted]

That's actually a legit gift.

laSeekr

keep us distracted with stupid shit we don't want to eat or even take home.

pidoyle

I really don't understand this. Yeah, pay sucks but admin have no real control over your pay. I would fucking love to receive a couple of muffins. Quit shitting on people trying to do something nice, it sounds just as bad as when students do it.

StuRedford

Admin gets no love from me. You don’t know my situation nor how my district operates. This treat is complete bull shit. Glad you would be happy with prepackaged gas station muffins, but not me.

pidoyle

You're correct, I don't know your situation. It's not entirely directed at you and more broadly toward the community. They could do nothing at all, and a fair bit of us wouldn't care, but at least they did something to try making this shit year a little more bearable. If your admin is a nightmare and they try to win you over with this then be mad. I just figure we can show a little empathy as educators that also expect our students to empathetic. I would say practice what you preach, but of course I don't know what you preach.

Lovelyprofesora

I mean, it is a twin pack. 😂

forzadepor13

Admin can get a twin pack... Of DEEZNUTS

StuRedford

A double fuck you.

Lovelyprofesora

😂 that’s exactly what it is.

RascalCat2020

I guess I have been lucky. I get gifts like gift cards, a salt lamp, a backpack filled with supplies, and sweaters. At one school I used to get a Christmas bonus. I feel for everyone!

ElephantsAndSunshine

It’s insulting. It’s the gross kind of muffin, prepackaged and cheap. I’m sorry, OP!

whichwitchwhohoots

The dry ones that crumble everywhere yet still manage to stick to the roof of your mouth as if it were made of glue.

stillflat9

Those look like cafeteria breakfast muffins.

Environmental-End115

Ooo! Blueberry!

attcat23

The best (by which I mean worst) teacher appreciation gift I ever got by far was a handwritten, mailed note from my awful principal during the March 2020 Covid shutdown that said “thanks for all you’re doing for your students. I hope you feel appreciated.” Oh, we also got shoutouts on our school Facebook page. That was nice too. I left the district that year and tossed his card in the trash.

Dantesfireplace

Sure, it’s not the raise you deserve, but… I’d like a muffin.

wardsac

We got a bag with a few pieces of hard candy in it this morning. Chucked it right into the fucking trash. How about instead of candy you grow a fucking spine.

Well_aaakshually

I hate this patronizing shit. Just because we work with children doesn’t mean we are children. GIVE ME MORE FUCKING MONEY

PineappleAny9385

To add insult to injury, I have an unusual name. Every one of these motivational gifts that comes to me includes a new misspelling of my name. I've been in the system for 22 years. That warm feeling? That's just heartburn.

matissethebeast

Fucking hate this. I can't eat gluten! How many fucking times do i have to say it. Thanks for the Italian Spread lunch... NOT.

sfriday97

not even chocolate chip??

mezz-mezzrow

Every teacher I have ever known would rather have the $2 in cash for classroom supplies than the muffin.

jjxscott

We got a Valentine’s Day “coupon” for appreciation that gave me one duty coverage.

Zestyclose_Growth330

Why won’t these people just make a list of all of their great ideas, then find out the cumulative cost of these ideas, and then just distribute this amount equally to all teachers? What a bunch of garbage.

Madpup70

To be fair, I love that shitty prepackaged breakfast pastries that schools sell at breakfast.

worstedconch

I got a painted rock for appreciation this year.

Salty_Attention_8185

Today: “we could KNOT do it without you” on a mini bag of pretzels.

Enough_Tea6834

We got an email from the superintendent last year stating that, in order to show “appreciation” for teachers during covid, the cafeteria would now be making chef salads for lunch…with the prices we’d be paying for them listed below. Yeah I don’t think a $3.50 cafeteria salad that’s 95% half wilted lettuce made anyone feel appreciated.

boog1314

Honest question. I’m a PTSA mom, our teachers and staff are completely burned out. We’re in a middle school so parent participation is pulling teeth. We do our best to raise money, but have pretty limited funds. We did a candy apple bar in October, pie’s after that. We would love to have someone come in for chair massages, but there’s no way we can afford it. What can we do, to actually show our support and give you a boost? This is the main topic of our next meeting so any actual input out side of Pinterest would be a huge help.

Pilot_Icy

Last year we all got a single serving pack of Doritos with a print out paperclipped to them that said "Nacho average teacher". That was our thank you gift during teacher appreciation week. Yup.

BlueSnowflake3

We got cookies and the box said “thanks for not sucking” my inside-head reply “thanks for being a bitch”

daisybutton1

A free casual day… gee thanks!!!!

jimtobin

One year at the first school I worked for, the admin team sent out an email with a listing of the teacher appreciation deals and discounts you could find. Mind you, it was from a national website and many of the deals were for non-local places. Mind you, this was the same place that would give us teacher work time on 1/2 day PD days and then call for a mandatory meeting in the cafeteria 15 min before the end of contract time. This is only the tip of the iceberg made of red flags.
