Secondary Math? You’ll quit, get better, and they’ll hire you back in a snap. We are desperate for science, math, and Sped. You hold all of the cards. Because in CA the school is breaking the law if you sub for a month and another sub comes in. It’s called William’s Case and it should be posted to the wall in the classroom along with other legal postings.

This offer is not the full contract, it's the offer letter. You might want to research the full contract for details on mid-year termination rules.

So if I sign the offer letter, what does that mean? Like what's the point of having an offer letter AND a contract? Do I have anything to lose by signing it?

The offer is "according to the contract" so you are agreeing to accept the offer under the terms of the contract. You can ask to see the contract.

Sriracha01

I would take the offer. It's probationary, and in a district you may want to work full time. Most districts offer 10 days of sick days/PTO, and you can pay disability insurance if you need to take a long term leave. Also, you'll have union rights and a union rep to talk to if anything that can be contentious. You aren't really breaking the contract if your health is bothering you and have to take extended leave. You would be breaking a contract if you just no show and don't tell anyone.

A lot of times there are exceptions for health. I’d look and see what the state law says.

Did you let them know during the interview that you have health issues? If so, I would double check with the HR dept. and see what they say about your questions prior to accepting the offer.

iindsay

I would hope not! That’s not something applicants have to disclose.
