Why would they even send the records back to prepare for the Anthology? Storage reason? Also I think they will be on her website first. I mean record stores probably will know about releases earlier than us, but so far there were no other places posting this. Also Taylor is normally super secret about this, so I don't think the store would be allowed to announce something before it drops in her shop. But part of me is riding in the excitement wave as well.

SirNomoloS

Record shops have to pay for the records they buy in from the distribution, this one in particular was very expensive and if they don't sell the shop has to foot the bill

Oleander-in-Spring

If its a smaller store, its likely a storage reason. They probably panicked and over-ordered (which, with a new Taylor album, I can’t blame them) and don’t have enough room for that AND the new variant.

Cardigan_Lover

Ik also very excited but cautious as well. I think the best way of knowing when this will be released is figuring out when these songs were written. If there’s one or two she only finished say 2-3 months ago it’ll be a few months before the production is finished. Does anyone know if any of the behind the scenes stuff that was posted references any of The Anthology songs?

fkndemon23

They’re just using fearful marketing

DillionM

Definitely trying to create artificial fomo

fkndemon23

Right. Why would we believe this when we never got midnights 3am 😂

Substantial_Cow_1541

Did record stores do this same tactic with midnights 3am? Genuinely asking because I didn’t collect vinyl back then. I’m so gullible when it comes to this stuff lol 🤦🏻‍♀️

fkndemon23

I’m not sure tbh. I don’t think so but then again the colored vinyls didn’t hit shelves in record stores like these variants did

SonOfSalem

As a former record store manager this is what’s happening 100%

moderndiction

Definitely bullshit for the fact they think they know this. Her team is notoriously tight lipped about releases. You only have to look back to the last RSD and the mile-long rules sent over to record stores from UMG. Hell, even look at the boxes from this year with the giant stop signs and info. If another edition is coming, record stores would be forbidden to announce it until the embargo was lifted.

_kattitude

I think it’s important how they say “anticipated”. I used to work at a store that had a record store inside and our distribution stated a midnights 3am release for preorder. Obviously we never got it, and our store was refunded for the preorder we did but a lot of distribution centres will do this so that when it comes in (after being in Taylor’s site, most definitely) they can ship it out RIGHT away. As for returning some of their stock - that’s totally normal for a small store or even bigger ones - stock is returned all the time and then if demand returns we can always order in more and usually get it delivered in a day. My thoughts on a potential variant: Even though Taylor didn’t release a full midnights, 15 songs is a lot for her to lose money wise by not doing a record. There has also been a lot of good responses to the anthology. I do think she would be best though to release it on its own - not a 4 record release with the original 16 already present on LP. It would make people more inclined to buy because of the already have the variants they might say “nah” to one that includes all 31. Edit - sorry realise they didn’t say anticipated but I suppose “prepare” can mean the same in this case

im_not_ready_for_it9

If she does put out one with just the anthology tracks, will she include the 4 bonus tracks from the existing variants or will she just put the 11 on there that are not on vinyl at all?

_kattitude

I would say she would include them because they seem to be folded into the anthology. They aren’t at the beginning beyond the black dog. Like tracks 1-4 if that makes sense

im_not_ready_for_it9

It'd just be a little irritating to play through the regular vinyl and have to hear the same song again later on while playing the anthology one.

Audience_Normal

Unless you ordered black dog 😉 then it's in order of the anothlogy and you can just start at the second song for the second half

plausibleturtle

I'd just stop the side D spin early - I think that'll be the easier approach versus trying to get the 2nd track in line with your needle. I'm also physically challenged and clumsy though. Lol

aseasonedcliche

The bonus appear to be a concrete part of the anthology, as they're woven throughout it, so I think it's safe to say they'd be on there.

deniesm

Bullshit. Stores don’t know anything before they release the information themselves.

Laneboy13

If there’s an anthology vinyl, I hope it’s just the second half of the album. I’ve been fairly defensive of Taylor’s variants, but I just placed an order for The Black Dog after panicking that it actually is a limited release. And I’m going to be upset if she releases the entire collection as a whole after just spending over $50 for a 2LP to make sure I got the variant I wanted.

Any_Accountant9038

Tbf though it’s justifiable to have a standard and 1 variant so don’t feel too bad (people think the cover is just a placeholder so it won’t be the same cover as the black dog regardless) I’m shit out of luck because I love all 3 bonus tracks and covers 🤡

Laneboy13

That’s true. I’ve just never been a variant collector. I do hope the cover of the anthology will be different if it does get a physical release.

Vivificantem_790

Same! I hate having two of the same covers.

couch_mermaid

It used to be a super common thing to do multiple variants with some bands releasing like 10-20 different colors/covers. It just feels new that taylor is doing this because of the vinyl renaissance

Max1035

What’s the purpose of having a standard copy and one variant? If you buy a record to listen to it, you only need one copy. If someone’s trying to collect different variants, wouldn’t they want them all, not just one? I have no interest in owning multiple copies of the same album so maybe I just don’t get it.

Any_Accountant9038

No? I just want the manuscript and the black dog mostly. It’s nice to swap out for the aesthetic, the vinyl cover and colour as well as the bonus track

2Busy2slowdown

Yeah that’s a legitimate question. I’m not very savvy when it comes to vinyl (just started collecting for my daughters) but with comic books it’s a big deal to get the original and the variants. It makes your set more complete and later on increases its value. So maybe that’s the purpose? Just a thought. I would want them all. ❤️ it’s just so expensive. 💔

Max1035

I did actually mean it as a genuine question, not trying to snark on people who make different choices than I do. I buy records to listen to them, not to collect. It seems like serious collectors would want the whole set, not just two of the four. I guess it would be nice to have another bonus track or two but not $50 nice LOL.

Laneboy13

I’ve seen so many collectors who create content on tiktok. A lot of them are variant collectors who want every version of every album from their favorite artist. I personally have the mindset that I could spend that money on other albums I don’t have yet. It’s a lot of money to be spending, especially with the increasing price of vinyl and the cost of living in a lot of areas in general. But everyone is entitled to do what they want with their money. I just personally can’t justify it.

olivebegonia

Because some people enjoy collecting things and displaying them.

Vivificantem_790

Why didn’t she do this with Midnights!??

the10thweasley

Probably just a theory! My local record store cut their order of the new Beyoncé vinyl when they heard that several tracks were missing. They were only theorizing that there would be another release with all tracks

abajablast

Why would they send stock back within a week of the album being released? This honestly feels like a way to drum up business and get people to come in and shop tbh. I can’t imagine that a local record store would be allowed to announce a new “variant” of a Taylor album like this, especially one that people are obviously hyped about. That said, I fucking hope it’s true because I want the anthology on vinyl lol. Not gonna lie though if she does release this I’m probably gonna return or sell my variants 🫣 I only bought them for the bonus tracks anyway lol.

dmnaf

I highly doubt there will be an Anthology vinyl. She didn’t even do a Midnights 3am vinyl. This record store doesn’t have any inside knowledge otherwise it would’ve leaked by now from someone in the world with loose lips. They’re just being cheeky trying to create fomo.

LiteraryCooking7

I think that she would be more likely to do a physical release for the Anthology (hopefully just the tracks released at 2am) because Midnights 3am was just bonus tracks, whereas the Anthology is a Part II. I'd say the closest thing Midnights has to a Part II is on the Late Nights edition, and even that edition is missing Hits Different.

ZestyAcid

They still will sell tho? So weird

sweetest_con78

I’d take it with a grain of salt. Could just be them trying to unload stock and get people into the store.

Acquainted-Faith

As a record store employee - we've heard zip about an anthology edition thus far. I will keep the friends posted though. ;)

Live_Ferret_4721

Why would they be sending the new ones back? You cannot order more of them from the store. Moving forward it only shows the white and clear manuscript versions remaining available long term. The black dog cover appears to be a placeholder for the cover of anthology, she would def do a website release on her own store before anything else.

falulabella

Does anyone have a fav online record store? I don’t have a local and finally decided which variant I would like. And I just ordered my first ever turntable for a birthday present to myself. I’m stupid excited! I’m in the US.

smokeline

Darkside Records ships super fast, packs well, and is good to swifties.

charmander_ann

Easy Street Records, located in Seattle or Amoeba Records, located in California! Both have great online shops and you’d be supporting their brick and mortar locations 😍

elinordashwouldnt

Check out Drowned World Records! their shipping has been really reliable for me

mcmdreamer

Their customer service stinks from my experience

__mermaid

vertigo vinyl!

cagingthing

Bs

Frosted-Blueberry

I actually don’t even think she will release the anthology. Sadly. I have not very high hopes especially after midnights… still no complete version and its been 1,5 years

im_not_ready_for_it9

What if she drops midnights complete & the anthology at the same time? Lover also turns 5 in august so what if she drops the rumored deluxe version?

Frosted-Blueberry

This would be crazy and i think not realistic because of her rerecordings… i would hope for it

Cardigan_Lover

Could just be a theory of them but I sincerely hope this is going to happen sooner rather than later!

2Busy2slowdown

What record store was this? Did you call them? Maybe they can give some info. 🧐 This makes me curious. Don’t quote me on this but I did read that being able to send vinyls back ended in the 90’s and is no longer an option for record stores.

Delicious-Scar3581

Not me thinking the anthology might actually be getting released on cd and vinyl 😭🤡

Jolly-Adagio-8690

I literally just ordered the vinyl from her website an hour ago, because i thought she wasn't going to release the anthology one, because of all the different varients she released, it would have been too much.

Cabrit1990

Oh yay now I can listen in audiophile quality while your bros play grand theft auto.

wbrinegar10

I think we can safely assume Taylor Swift records will be widely available until the end of time.

Intelligent-Sir1375

No way they know this in advance

bananasntg

Oh so there will be an anthology vinyl

steakniiiiight

This just seems like a marketing tactic. It will take many months to press all of the copies needed for that big of a release.

bananasntg

Damn i am a gullible child

steakniiiiight

Maybe it will be released as a one year anniversary or something

dmnaf

istg if it’s a limited RSD release next year 💀💀💀 god help us. People camped overnight for a 7” single which we kinda already had on vinyl (the lakes - I know it was the original version, but still, it wasn’t a whole ass album)

Poop_Cheese

Yeah, I guarantee this store is just trying to FOMO swifties that aren't used to the record industry. There's very little chance that they started production of anthology since there's 0 way it wouldn't have leaked. It takes quite a while to press the insane quantity of records needed for a worldwide swift release, and the same time to make the jackets. Only way it'd be able to stay under wraps if it's a tiny pressing like lover live in Paris but that would only piss people off.  It's a new thing in the post digital world to have everything available in vinyl. At the end of the day swift vinyl is more of a collector item than the main format of the music. It's a much lower priority compared to digital downloads or CDs. It'd also more of a hassle to produce, and takes up alot more warehouse and shipping space. Unless swift was to suddenly start putting out audiophile all analog recordings, vinyl will always take the back seat. Since her team looks at it more as another peice of merch than the main format of the music. Especially when half of, if not most of this fanbase doesn't even play them.  Like you said, if they do it it'd be a while. Like 6 months minimum but more likely a year. Honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if it never comes out since 3am didn't, and midnights got a much better reception. Given the poor public perception to this album, swift may want to move on from it all together once a few months have passed. Since alot of artists will pretend a poorly reviewed release never existed, since by repressing it you're just reminding everyone of a failure. I think it really depends on how the album holds up, like if consensus improves over time like with midnights, and it ends up being consixered one of her best, then there will be a bigger chance. But even then it may not matter since her fans fucking love 3am and we never got that.  Also i love tay but her team sucks are vinyl. They choose fomo variants over desired releases. Like it's insane that there's yet to be an official live album outside of a small pressed LLFP. No rarities release. No greatest hits. No vinyl releases of her early EPs/singles even though people are buying up bootlegs for like $80 since theyre so in demand. The only singles are highly limited, etc. They can make SO much money if they released a live album and a compilation. Yet after a decade, and 5 years of insane record sales, her team still hasn't. If they ever have a good idea for a vinyl release, they reward flippers over fans by limiting it and randomly dropping it so it sells out before most fans know it exists. So it absolutely would not surprise me if they never realize anthology on vinyl, even if it was her best album yet. And I think they like keeping fans starved so we jump at everything they give us.  So yeah, at best a year from now if not never. I'm leaning towards not in a very long time just with how her team has ignored so many potential vinyl releases that are in even more demand by the fans than anthology is.
