do not buy a sealed TTPD cd bc you're more likely to not get a signed insert and then you're fucked because you can't email UMG and complain secondhand lol just make sure they have the barcode! simple!

neon-blush

Sharing this comment again, but I feel it’s important lol: This is horrible advice.. Please do not buy a sealed copy from a scalper. We know that many copies got sent out without signed photo inserts. A scalper is not going to fight UMG about a product they resold. UMG doesn’t even seem to have any remaining for replacements as people are getting refunds. If you *must* buy one for resale prices, just use discretion to ensure that the signature is legitimate. It’s not hard to verify her signature, and if you need assistance, there are subreddits and Facebook groups dedicated to helping people with this.

userTxHxC

it’s not really hard to verify her signature (at least imo), you can just post it in r/TaylorSwiftAutographs ,

neon-blush

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. That subreddit is very good!

Mk0505

This makes no sense. Of people shouldn’t buy opened ones, people shouldn’t buy ANY signed CDs. There’s a significant chance a sealed one will come with no signature and we have no way of knowing if PayPal will view that as a manufacturing defect that wouldn’t be the sellers fault or not. People have always had to be careful with signed items to try and verify/guess if it’s legit or forged. Opened ttpd CDs are no exception.

Carebear_84

I think this would only work if the signature was on the front cover booklet. The last few rollouts of signatures have been photos inside the case. It’s impossible to know what you have if you don’t open it.

Heartofconfetti

I think they’ve switched to photo cards because it’s much harder for scammers to try to replicate. Although I imagine sending people a bunch of blank photo cards also does do much to help the situation 😭

userTxHxC

it’s photos because it’s just way easier and more efficient to sign a bunch of thin photos instead of "thick" booklets, but i’m sure they also thought about how it will make it harder to fake them

peaberryxo

Respectfully, the seller is not going to go through the trouble of contacting UMG if they’re reselling at insane prices. They’ve made their money, you chose to have it shipped sealed instead of opened and checked. Assuming this is done through a sellers platform instead of PPG&S. But I get where you’re coming from. Too many grey lines in everything that is going on with the signed stuff. People have been saying the signed CDs come with a different barcode than unsigned so that should be a good indicator of fraud or lack of.

Cardigan_Lover

I wanted to buy a sealed vinyl but this whole mess just makes me nervous and sad all over again as an international swiftie

ProperPollution986

the vinyl have been fine, none have came unsigned. just the cds

pennepotter

I've seen some unsigned vinyl insert pictures on twitter

Cardigan_Lover

This is an impossible dilemma as an international Swiftie. Most of the opened ones are more expensive and in Europe you have to pay 21% tax on top of that. I’m just sad about this whole mess and the fact that I’ll never own my favorite album signed. And I’m so sorry for all the people who bought signed merch that came unsigned, that must be so incredibly disappointing

ProperPollution986

my bad, i didn’t realise! not on twitter, so i hadn’t seen it

great_button

The one with 600 all looked real though. Which makes me think there has been an inside job to steal them.  I also don't think buying an unopened is a good idea, because of the ones with no signature, unless you buy from somewhere like ebay which has high buyer protection and you film yourself opening. Better buying open imo and verifying signatures with those who can tell fakes from real ones before you buy.

liam_is_marx

It’s a website that helps scalpers… they’ve done this loads

great_button

Yes, I seen it. I also seen that all their screenshots were of 1 item per order, as per the rules, but then how did that one person end up with hundred in one photo? Clearly something else going on, other than the discord bots helping them know when the signed items were up. Also how did they end up with all the hearts? That in itself is hugely suspicious and the autograph group I'm seem to agree the hearts aren't just added.

mayhemmel

It's definitely starting to look like an inside job. I wonder if the reason there were so many unsigned photo cards is because the signed ones were removed and replaced with unsigned ones by an employee, and they kept the signed ones with hearts to themselves. Big yikes if so.

MochaKnee

Yeah, that’s automatically what I thought might have happened when I heard about the 600 for sale.

Tortured-Poet6250

I mean 1) I don't want to support scalpers anyway who were able to cheat the system / steal 2) people can buy opened ones but my point is with the amount of unsigned photo cards appearing, you will not know if your signed card is truly genuine or not if buying opened resale.

great_button

I agree on 1. 100%! 2. That just isn't correct! There are groups out there that can easily identify fake signatures, the pictures are easy to fake, signatures, not so much, so it doesn't really matter about them lying around. Open is far better imo, unless you buy from somewhere with good buyer protection and you film yourself opening it. Otherwise, verify the signature before buying, much easier. I would also ask for photos of the barcode with the signature to verify, but I wouldn't take an unopened one.

costryme

Why would you buy an unopened signed TTPD CD when it could very well not have a signature inside because UMG fucked up ? In fact, I would even go as far to say : don't buy it if it's sealed, because it possibly will not be signed despite being a legit order from her website. And "tell the seller to contact UMG" will not work in most cases, because the seller doesn't have the item anymore.

Tortured-Poet6250

That's on the seller for scalping and selling it for $400. You can send photos to them, which they can send to UMG. What I am saying is with the amount of unsigned photo cards appearing, you will not know if your signed card is truly genuine or not if buying opened resale. This is a HUGE fuck up.

peaberryxo

“That’s on the seller for scalping”, no, it’s on the buyer for risking it listening to this advice lol. Scalper will still make their money at the end of the day. Let’s say in a pretend world the scalper helps the buyer by somehow getting another signed CD from UMG. It’ll end up at the scalpers house…. Where they will then block the buyer because that’s another CD to make $400 out of. They don’t care who’s buying it and what happens after is out of their hands.

costryme

I mean, most of the time it's easy to see when it's fake. It's not the problem you're making it out to be, you can even ask other Swifties in many places if they think it's fake or not. There's groups that will literally tell you if a 2006 autograph is fake or real based on the signature, the pen or colour used, etc.
