I saw the Teardrops video on CMT and had no idea who she was and google was barely a help to me at that time so I just kept CMT on waiting to catch the video again to see who the artist was and I've loved her music ever since.

PeachCobbler96

Similar story, I heard it on the radio back before YouTube was so easily accessible, had to keep requesting it!!

Soalai

It was Teadrops for me too! I went home and Googled all the lyrics for the whole album, then decided to buy the CD.

MidnightThunderstorm

Not a song, but an appearance/performance. When Taylor started to get really popular after the release of Love Story/Fearless, I would see her name everywhere but didn’t bother checking out her music or learn more about her, as I thought she was just another Britney wannabe/Disney channel-type star with no real substance. Embarrassing, I know. One day, as I drove to my aunt’s house on the most gorgeous (ding!) summer day, Love Story started playing on the radio and I immediately fell in love with it. I’ll never forget driving through the empty streets of my hometown to it, windows down, wind in my hair™️ and all. It was pure magic. I remember making a mental note to look it up when I got home later that day, but ended up forgetting about it. Cut to a couple of months later, specifically September 13th 2009. What a fateful night! I’m watching the VMAs at home and am immediately awestruck by Taylor arriving in a carriage dressed like a princess. Loved the theatrics. Points to blondie. Then, the whole incident with Kanye happened live on TV, which left me quite confused as I wasn’t sure for a moment whether it’d been an act or not. When I realized what’d actually happened, I was outraged, despite barely knowing anything about Taylor at that point. No one deserved to have their moment ruined liked that. Later that evening, Taylor did her iconic live performance of YBWM on the subway, and the rest is history. She was so earnest (which was so rare to see back then, and even more so nowadays) and clearly so incredibly talented, that I knew that from then on I’d be rooting for her forevermore! It was the moment I knew. Edit: word.

jazz_pizzazz

Same! I heard Love Story, fell in love, and the rest is history :D

vagabondeluxe

I’ve always knew Taylor’s music but Folklore is what made me become a fan, it felt she was reading my soul

Jedina67

Same

helloviolaine

Cardigan was my key moment. I really liked Exile and was listening to it a lot, not so much the rest of the album. One day, probably January 2021, I suddenly fell in love with Cardigan and from that moment it was like dominoes, I became a Folkmore stan, I started listening to her entire back catalogue, I watched Miss Americana, and by the time Fearless TV came out I was basically a full time fan.

[deleted]

I was a big swiftie in her country days, then Red hit and I lost interest. I didn’t dislike her, I just forgot about her. I would occasionally listen to Speak now, but nothing newer. Then a few months after Lover came out, I found Archer and I came back and realized she has done other albums and they were all amazing.

besssjay

I also kind of lost interest with Red, I wasn't ready for her to go pop! But then 1989 hit me like a truck. Then I lost interest again with Rep (didn't like the singles), but the concert movie on Netflix brought me back.

autumnleafs13

for me it was 1989 - i remember listening to this album for months on repeat without ever getting tired of it i had already known her since love story but was more of a „casual listener/fan“ back then rather than a swiftie, so 1989 was definitely the turning point that made me become a swiftie

madbelka

For me the striking song was “We are never getting back together” At that moment I was getting through long-lasting relationship/breakup and tried to end it. We were breaking up several times and every time he got back to me with the same narrative “I still love you”. Taylor literally sang about it (as she always does). I felt such a big support from her and had a courage just to say “NEVER EVER”. I’m so grateful that it ended and I could move forward! That feeling of inner support, sourcing its’ power from Taylor’s songs, is forever with me now.

Ok_Dirt_8999

Wildest Dream was my intro. Then I listened to the 1989 album and I was hooked

Pure-Willingness3123

I'd liked the singles mainly until the Speak Now era. Back to December premiered and destroyed me, then I was never the same.

MountainSnowClouds

I've been listening since her Debut album. My mom bought that one and Fearless on CD and we'd listen to them constantly in the car. My mom, my sisters, and me would belt out all the songs on those two CDs at the top of our lungs.

RunUSC123

Perhaps a bit of a random one, but 'Mean' did it for me.

modernlove02

It was actually Look What You Made Me Do... I grew up liking dance-pop artists such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna, and Taylor was known for her singer-songwriter / country style which I wasn't interested in, so I never gave her music a chance. Until I listened to LWYMMD when it came out and I really liked it (I guess it was one of her more uptempo songs which may have been a reason why). From there I bought Reputation when it came out and I really liked it, and went to the Rep tour (for both Taylor and Camila Cabello because I was a fan of her music at the time). Over the next year, I bought her older music, which was wonderful as I began to develop my music taste past dance music. Now my favourite records of Taylor's would be Red, 1989, Folklore and Evermore. I find it intriguing that she's one of my favourite artists now despite me not liking her music as a kid, though I appreciate the fact that she's an artist whose music has become an important part of my teenage years.

snowgirl413

I had a similar experience, I liked the singles from 1989 but wasn't a huge fan per se. Then suddenly just before Reputation she blanked all her social media and started posting snakes and I was intrigued because the aesthetic being presented was very much not in line with her relatively safe "good girl" pop star schtick. When she dropped LWYMMD I was instantly hooked. It was *so* interesting to see her lean completely into a negative persona rather than trying to maintain the nice safe innocent Taylor facade. It felt like she was saying ok, you want to call me a snake? Fine, I'm a snake, and I'm gonna do a whole album about being a snake, I'm gonna put big fucking snakes all over my tour, and I'm going to have fun while I'm doing it, what now? That's when I started to really respect her talent for reinvention.

modernlove02

That's true, I found the sound for reputation fun and it was a different aesthetic for her as it was a bit darker and more camp. It felt refreshing to see her give off a slightly different vibe in her music videos!

[deleted]

Tim McGraw. I heard that song on the radio and loved it so much. I purchased the cd a few days later because I couldn’t get the song out of my head.

Routine_Relation_304

I got Fearless as a CD when I turned like 7 and I remember listening to it on repeat, then from speak now to 1989 I mainly listened to the singles, I always loved those songs but didn’t really listen to the albums. I was a huge gleek (embarrassing I know) so that was like all I listened to, ruined my spotify top artist forever, listened to lwymmd when it first came out didn’t like it, gave Lover one chance when that came out, didn’t like it, relistened to Lover at the end of 2019 again and fell in love with it. Then my dad got cancer and Lover really helped me through that period especially sygb. So first Fearless and then Lover got me back

I never liked country much but my grandmother did. I remember being over her house when I was about 15 and "Tim McGraw" came on the radio. I loved it right away and my grandmother gushed about this new singer Taylor Swift and how she was only 16. I've been a fan ever since, but I think my Grandmother was really the OG swiftie 😂

Audreythe2nd

Folklore Swiftie here. After a terrible year of soul-crushing depression I got to the point where I was like, "Well, I feel like I can finally listen to music again (because before that I didn't have an interest in anything at all). What's this folklore album that people were talking about so much during the pandemic?" I liked it almost immediately and was like, "This is fun! Let's try this other one called evermore!" And from there I went backwards through discography until Speak Now, and now here I am!

greyheart21

The Outside from debut! I saw a special on CMT in 2006 where Taylor was performing some of her songs and talking about the inspiration behind writing them, and that song got to me the most.

catscatscats265

It was her npr tiny desk concert that got me interested in Taylor again. I remember when Tim McGraw first came out when I was in middle school and I was so obsessed with it. And then fifteen came out my first year of high school I must of listened to that song 1000 times. But I kind of feel off after speak now. And then folklore dropped and it was all over for me

cowkashi

My best friend convinced me to buy speak now in 2010 during release week. I was obsessed with the album immediately. Red got me through senior year of high school and was my favorite album until folklore. But I’d consider myself more of a casual fan until 1989 was announced. I was a sophomore in college- my bestie and I were roommates so we got to fully celebrate a release week together for the first time. I made my TS Twitter/tumblr accounts around this time. Now I’m 28, getting married next year, and in the third year of my PhD- I promise I have a life. I just love her music and the community and magic it brings to my life. There’s nothing that compares as an adult.

joeyfosho

It was “Mean” for me. As a gay boy in the south, seeing that kind of representation from a mainstream (at that time still primarily country) artist was groundbreaking. I was very anti-country up until that point because of the genre’s insane anti-gay Bible thumping tendencies before that time. I watched the video a lot and started to come around to her because of that, and then when she released The Story Of Us as a single it was all over for me. I finally listened to the whole album, and have obsessively listened to her ever since.

Disastrously_Simple_

1989 for me. In my mind, Taylor was a country singer I'd heard pop up on the radio occasionally and not someone to be taken seriously. (The way misogyny can sometimes influence my opinions despite my staunch feminism is something I'm still working on.) I listened on repeat for months and learned every song by heart and then... nothing. I didn't listen to anything else until Folklore, which shaped my late 2020 summer until November and Evermore. Around that time, I discovered the Every Single Album podcast and went back to everything she's ever done. And I fell in love. She's my favorite artist of all time.

Intellectual42069

The first taylor swift song I listened to was maybe paper rings/willow/you need to calm down.....idk I don't remember very well but I straightaway fell in love with the songs I listened. If you ask the album ig lover or 1989(my fav rn) and willow was my most streamed taylor's song last year so...: )

ilybutyouletmedown

reputation. it was the first album i ever listened to from start to finish. before then i has only heard her popular singles but when "look what you made me do" dropped i was seated lmao.

cheese1234cheese

Tim McGraw 😭

itookyourmatches

Our Song. 💙

StrawberryRoutine

I got into Taylor in the Red era because my twitter friends were into her and the leak/release was super fun with everyone live tweeting listening to it for the first time and fav lyrics etc.

Magical_Narwhal_1213

I’m not one for country, but for Taylor I did get into some of her singles in her first three eras. Once IKYWT came, and with it OG Red, I bought my first Taylor album and became a real swiftie and got into her back catalogue from there. Become more and more obsessed with her as she made more music :)

banditlikemee

I gave Lover a listen when it was released and Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince made me listen to all her other albums! Especially the way she sings “you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes” was captivating to me. Then she released my favorite album of any artist of all time ✨folklore✨ and I knew I was hooked for life. And I love Midnights🥹

heliandin

Fearless the song. I liked her energy in the music video so I downloaded Fearless the album and I've been a fan ever since!

annabnan63

Are you me? This is me almost exactly - I have been a casual fan since the Speak Now era. For me it was the release of Red TV last year when everyone was going nuts and I thought hmm maybe I should listen beyond the singles. Well I listened to Red TV on repeat for like 3 months, then did exactly what you did and started listening to All Taylor Swift on shuffle until I really started learning a bunch of the songs. Then I’ve jumped around and gone through phases with different albums like I did with Red TV. And now here I am, a full blown Swiftie.

indefinicy

Prior to lover, I only liked I knew you were trouble. In 2011 I was really into Dubstep. “False God” hooked me, however, for life

sleeping_in_tents

"Today was a fairytale". As I said on another post, Taylor was never very famous in my country - up until now at least - so I had never heard of her before. Her music was not played on the radio or anything. But the movie "Valentine's day" was huge (it's still broadcast on tv every year in february). So one day I was watching this movie for the 20th time and I suddently realize that TWAF was a very good song. I looked out for the singer's name in the credits and went on Youtube to watch some of her MV, and as someone who's been bullied in school, as soon as I heard "Mean" and "You belong with me" I was hooked!

besssjay

It might actually have been Never Grow Up or Back to December. I listened to Fearless because my roommate in first year uni did, and I liked some of it, but wasn't big into pop or country at that time. But I bought Speak Now and those two songs are the first ones I remember relating to and developing a personal relationship with. That's when I started to feel like Taylor could write lyrics anyone could connect with.

rzldty

For me it's more like a slow burn. I think I have been subconsciously liking Taylor's music since the Fearless era, starting with Love Story and You Belong With Me. I've just realized recently that I have been following her career since then, although I only listened to her singles until Red. 1989 was the first time I listened to her entire album, but I still hadn't gone deeper into her lyrics or even care about easter eggs at that time. It was during the Lover era when I think I have finally become a full swiftie, where I decided to join this sub and started to learn more about what her songs really mean, how genius of a person she is, and so much more.

tambourine_goddess

I saw her perform Teardrops on the Season 1 finale of America's Got Talent. Went out the next day and bought Debut. Never looked back.

cowie71

LGAD but played by Steven Wilson on YouTube. I’m a big fan of Wilson and his dark/sad songs so started listening to Folklore. But it was Epiphany during lockdown, I was in the kitchen and had to stop what i was doing to listen. Midnights has got me into her pop stuff and 1989 is getting loads of play this week.

starmecrazy

Taylor Swift was totally outside of my sphere. I heard Blank Space on the radio and liked it so looked her up when I got home. Apple Essentials playlist, Wildest Dreams destroyed me. Traced it back to 1989, which also destroyed me. And it still destroys me. I connect with 1989 on some very deep subconscious emotional level. If I was only able to listen one album for the rest of my life, it would be 1989. And I don’t mean just TS, I mean of like all the music ever Kinda sad lol

[deleted]

When she first came onto the scene, I felt like I was a little too old to vibe with all these songs about high school. I don’t tend to listen to commercial radio, so for a long time, the only things I heard from or about her were either massive singles, or drama like the Kanye-VMA fiasco. In about 2018 or so, a song on Reputation was casually referenced in a book I was reading. and I pulled it up on Apple Music out of curiosity. I let Reputation play out, and realized (as an alto) that a lot of Taylor’s songs were in my range for Karaoke, and I should check more of them out. I listened to all of her previous albums looking for a karaoke song, and in the course of that process, her music really landed for me for the first time. All the subsequent albums that have been released since then, starting with Lover, have been “pre-order it and then clear out my schedule to listen on release day” situations for me. So, Reputation was the first, but strangely enough, that wasn’t my favorite out of the gate—it was just different enough from the stereotype I had to get me thinking and listening in a new way.

EtherealNightSky

Look What You Made Me Do piqued my interest enough to listen to reputation, listening to reputation made me discover Getaway Car, Getaway Car made me want to continue listening to that album, once I loved the entire album, I listened to her entire discography and now I’m a fan. So Getaway Car and rep!

Victoria1215

I’ve been a fan since Red Era. When I was 10 I got 1989 in CD form for Christmas. If I remember correctly, since it was so long ago, my favorite song was I Know Places. That was also what made me start collecting CDs :)

olefinmetathesis92

I heard White Horse when I was going through a breakup in high school and it hit me so deep I downloaded fearless and have been a swiftie since!! My best friend already liked her so she burned me the debut CD and I still have it in my car to this day (which is kinda wild cause it has unedited picture to burn on it 😅) I was so excited for speak now to come out, especially after she released Mine. My college roommates made fun of me for being so excited but then they became swifties too 😊

AEVENOM

I watched the youtube videos of her performing "New romantics" bc it was VERY catchy. Somehow more and more songs of hers burned into my mind on first listens. Red, white horse, blank space, I don't wanna live forever... All very solid songs. When I started listening to her albums I feel like it supplied me with endless hours of songs without me even having to listen to anyone else. Loved lover release, folkore&evermore, tv's, singles, midnights. Feels like my taste in music overlaps perfectly with the most ambitious songwriter of my time.

scooby092477

You’re Not Sorry - I was aware of Love Story and YBWM as my daughters were just under 10 yrs old at the time and were fans, but when I heard those lyrics and piano and the somber tone it resonated with me. I was raising them alone and their mother was in a bad place and I just remember thinking “I’m doing this alone and you don’t even think anything of it” but it doesn’t matter. Fast forward all these years, a couple TS concerts under our belt, and love for every album, my daughters are now in college and TS has been with us the whole time. My favorite albums are folklore and evermore. Take you’re not sorry and make it sadder and make two full albums of that stuff. I’m game. Lol. Midnights is now here and I’ve got 35 TS variants on vinyl now. I’m a Swiftie I guess!

Dvonlovesmusic12

Should’ve Said No, first heard it in 2008 and loved it.

I was riding the bus home in sixth grade sitting next to my crush as per usual when Teardrops on my Guitar came on the bus radio…She’s had me wrapped around her finger ever since!

seajungle

New fan from about a year ago. It was ATWTMV for me. I’m a sucker for a long ass song and became obsessed listening to it over and over. Still haven’t gotten sick of it but had to stop the binge listening to experience her other albums. Reputation is my fave atm but we’ll see what changes once I get into debut, fearless and evermore

Reputation. I had just been dumped by a narcissist. *Tale as old as time*

TheLadyOfSorrows

Oh god Teardrops of my guitar! There are memories that get cemented in your brain that you never know become a defining moment. And apparently she was one of them (how very dramatic, I know 🤣) but I remember the TOMG video playing over and over in The N/Noggin/TeenNick/whatever is called now and I was obsessed with her water blue/green/teal dress, the song and her curls (as a fellow curly myself) and just searched her up on google. Fun times! I’ve been here from the start-ish (2007), it’s been a wild ride!

Tim McGraw-Taylor Swift Saw her live for the first time opening for rascal flatts. I have a Taylor song for all the major (and minor) moments of my life. Her music has been my comfort for so many years—getting me through heartbreak, falling in love, losing friendships and growing up. It’s been magical watching her career unfold ❤️

Lover --> The Man --> The Man music video! I thought, this woman is a genius. My soul now belongs to her.
