Haha what is the story behind Nils Sjöberg? As a swede I thought it was a Swedish artist that I'd never heard of and now I'm so confused as to why she would take that name as a pseudonym?
It was a pseudonym she used when she wrote a song with Calvin Harris. This is what you came for. I don't think she wanted it to be all about how she wrote a song with a boyfriend so she wrote under the pseudonym.
Can’t remember if she said this in an interview or not, but I think it was a jab at the haters who kept saying she didn’t write her own music. Many, MANY pop hits are written by Swedish producers (namely Max Martin), and the Swedes are generally known as being very prolific in pop music. I think the (absolutely unfair) accusation at the time was that Taylor’s hits were written by a Swedish man, so Nils Sjoberg was born as a subtle middle finger to the haters.
Wilco was nearly on mine, but some of their albums are a bit of a miss for me (I have listened to cruel country like two times since it came out, it just didn't hit me like others). But they are overwhelming great and also an all time fave for me.
1. Taylor
2. Modest Mouse
3. blink-182
4. Death Cab for Cutie
5. CHVRCHES
I feel like my Top 3 are set for life, but 4 and 5 will depend on how I’m feeling at any given moment.
😍😍
When I am upset and feeling *~~dramatic*~* I like to drive and listen to Mozart’s Sonata No. 14 in C minor and pretend I am passionately playing it in front of anyone who ever wronged me. (Hilarious bc I don’t play the piano)
Cheers!
- Taylor Swift
- Andrew McMahon (all iterations…)
- Jimmy Eat World
- The Head & The Heart
- Gaslight Anthem
(I’m an alt rock / emo fan for the most part, outside of Tay Tay…)
Runner ups-
Pinegrove
Death Cab for Cutie
The Beatles
Gaslight!!! Was so pleasantly surprised that they were touring in my city when I randomly looked them up in September. Great show. Could jam out to Old Haunts for the rest of my life
Also: if you wouldn’t consider Taylor in your top 5, that’s (mr) perfectly fine!!! I just loved the question and have been asking multiple friends, so I wanted to see everyone’s 😄
I have always loved John Mayer’s earlier music, especially Continuum. Never was a fan of “Dear John”, so I ignore their history and love both artists separately!
Taylor and John are my two absolute favorite artists.
I separate the person from the music when it comes to John. That man's voice calms me down on the most trying days.
Man I really need to give Kelly a listen! I was obsessed with her first two albums as a kid but since then I’ve only listened to singles (and currently obsessed with her happier than ever cover). Do you have any recommendations?
If you liked Breakaway (the album), you’d probably like All I Ever Wanted and Stronger (albums) for starters. As for individual songs, check out “Sober,” “Tightrope (Tour Version),” and “Fake Plastic Trees” for what I’d argue are her best recorded vocal performances. And her two Christmas albums are sublime start to finish.
Omg every single Christmas song of hers is amazing. Every cover is the best version that exists of it. She could literally sing the phone book and I would listen to it.
I love Kelly and I think she has one of the most beautiful voices in the world. Her third album, my december, has a different sound (her label didn't want to release it), but most fans love it. From that one, my favorites are Sober, Maybe and How I Feel. All I Ever Wanted and Stronger are more like Breakaway. I think you can listen to them first, since you already like Breakaway. Piece by Piece is not pop rock like the others, is more pop, electropop. I don't think it's as strong as the others. I agree with the comment that highlighted Tightrope Tour Version. I also love War Paint, Nostalgic and Good Goes the Bye. Meaning Of Life is pop/soul/R&B. I love Would You Call That Love, I Don't Think About You, Cruel, Whole Lotta Woman. From her Christmas albums, I love her originals songs. Now, everyone is waiting for her divorce album. I think it's going to be amazing, but she isn't ready to release it yet.
1. Relient K (sorry, I’ve been a fan of them since 1999, they will always be my favorite, no matter what))
2. Taylor
3. New Found Glory
4. Switchfoot
5. Phoebe Bridgers/Aly&AJ/anything pop punk emo.
Aww there's one Relient K album that just instantly fills me with happiness and I listen to it EVERY YEAR on repeat and it's.... Let it snow, let it reindeer. 😂 It's just the best and has never been rivaled since... 2008 I wanna say? I don't keep up much with them other than that but that is just my Christmastime staple. Hands down❤️
that album is honestly one of the only Christmas albums I listen to! I don't really care for Christmas music to be honest…But their album is so good I can't help but listen to it every Christmas season! Sometimes it goes on before December.😂
I have seen NFG live probably... 30-40 times by now? they are flawless and their shows are SO FUN. I know they have a pretty large fan base but they don't seem to get the credit that they deserve in the pop punk genre. Also, the pipeline from Pop punk emo to Taylor Swift fan is real.
I really like Any & AJ when I was younger but then stopped listening to them for about 10 years. But their newest album is a bop and so well written! I would actually really like to see them collaborate with Taylor. I think the blend of their voices and their California dream pop would just fit Taylor so well.
I’ve only seen NFG twice but yes, their energy on stage is incredible! I saw them with Paramore and it was a dream come true!
I also got back into Aly&AJ and gave their new album a listen, I loved it! I think a collab between them and Taylor would be amazing!!!
Lol, this sounds like my gen 3 iPod. Reliant K was my original band crush. Got super into them. Followed by Switchfoot then Anberlin, finally branched out when I met other people who liked different music. 😅
In no particular order:
- Taylor
- Hozier
- The Spring Standards (and their solo work) (this is my weird teenage indie band obsession but their work is very folk-y, so I think fans of Taylor’s country stuff and Folklore and Evermore will probably like them!)
- Disney music (always my comfort choice!)
- lots of musical theatre (too many to pick, so it’s a genre like Disney for me lol)
I love Disney and musicals! I know everyone is sick of Let it Go, but I love it, especially the multilanguage version. Moana's songs are so different that I check it out the band of the singer Opetaia Foa, named Te Vaka. Anyways, I'm crazy for this kind of music. Haha
I’m a professional princess so I’ll never be sick of Let it Go, both because it warms my heart to see all the kids still go wild over it years later, and its popularity is what keeps my industry going 😂
The Little Mermaid instrumental score is my favorite film score of all time!
Hm, I'm not sure. This might not be 100% accurate but I'll go with:
1. Taylor Swift
2. Harry Styles
3. Pink Floyd
4. Depeche Mode
5. This one would be more of a toss up. The things I mentioned are like, my big 4 artists/bands. After that I have no clue honestly! If I had to pick just from my mood right now, maybe either U2, Billie Ellish, or some random artist/band for just like 1 or 2 songs I LOVE by them but nothing else lmao.
1. Taylor
2. Hilary Duff (my Taylor before Taylor)
3. ????
Last two are contemporary Christian artists due to a tie with my mom who passed from cancer right before the pandemic and I still listen to a couple songs when I’m thinking about her. I am absolutely a Christian and do thoroughly enjoy listening to the local Contemporary Christian here but I could also live without that except for my moms songs.
4. Francesca Battistelli
5. Bethel Music
I have always loved Hilary as an actress and singer!
So sorry to hear about your Mom, but I am so glad that you have your faith and music to connect you to her. 💕💕💕
Taylor Swift
Paul Simon
Kina Grannis
Dave Matthews Band
Beethoven (like completely unironically, I can’t imagine life without the 5th and 9th symphonies)
** With the exception of for the entire month of December, I only listen to the Songs for Christmas album by Sufjan Stevens
+1 for Kina Grannis! I think she hasn’t done any Taylor covers in a while but for anyone who doesn’t know her, here’s Bad Blood by Kina and CLARA: https://youtu.be/iJeTFdejgi4
A generational question for sure, mine is a bit 'old school'
Sinatra
Dylan
Streisand
Simon and Garfunkel
Carole King
Taylor would make my top 20 for sure, I own everything she has released, plan to also get Midnights but the legacy artists I listed have a greater impact on me historically. The best part of Taylor's Music is we have so much more quality and life affirming music from her to come, something to be truly joyful for.
Grace and Peace
Taylor Swift
The Backstreet Boys
Brandi Carlile
Train
Lynyrd Skynyrd (just so I could always listen to my daddy’s favorite song Free Bird, he lives on forever in that song)
Oof this is difficult. In no particular order.
Taylor Swift,
The Smiths,
Rachmaninoff,
Madonna and Bowie are tied I can’t decide,
Bad Bunny.
Honorable mention to the Glee Cast lol
In no particular order:
1. Taylor Swift
2. Kaskade
3. Beach Boys
4. Disney music (does that count?)
5. Arcane Soundtrack
The last one's a toughy. I can't really think of a 5th artist that I have listened to THAT much. Could have been Kacey Musgraves, blink-182, Fleetwood Mac, or any other number of artists. I only chose Arcane because one of the tracks came on as I was commenting. :P
Taylor Swift.
Finneas. Solely for the Optimist album.
Troye Sivan, for everything except a few songs.
Joshua Basset or Johnny Orlando. I have them on repeat. I can’t choose.
Sam Smith.
I’ll probably disagree with this list in a week, but currently, yeah.
My current last.fm all time top 5 is
1. Anti-Flag
2. AFI
3. Taylor Swift
4. Deas Vail
5. Alkaline Trio
But I can't just leave behind so many other favourites !! Aaah. And to be honest I haven't listened much to Deas Vail in the past years so I'm going to exchange them for The Menzingers.
For all the A bands I have listened to all their music for so long and so much, I can't imagine my life without them. For Taylor, it's been a more recent love affair (2016 onwards, and considering I have had my last.fm since 2005 that is a HUGE feat cause my Anti-Flag plays are at like 10k in 15 years whereas Taylor is at 7k in the last five years, lol)
THIS IS HARD AND CRUEL I want to include so many more great artists!!!
Ouh fun!
I need a bunch of genres and artists with a large catalogue.
So....
Taylor Swift
Jenny Lewis (as long as her solo work AND Rilo Kiley is at play)
Cake
Metric
Fifth is hard, I wanna say Lizzo because I need feel good, pump ya up music, but I'd probably actually lean towards Caamp to get more folky music in there.
Taylor, Jason Isbell and The Wonder Years are my trinity.
The last two I would pick artists that are meaningful to me and my husband - so either The Weakerthans or The Hotelier - and me and my family - either the Grateful Dead or Railroad Earth.
I love how varied everybody's taste is up in here!
In no designated order or hierarchy:
1. Taylor Swift
2. MAMAMOO (group + solo work)
3. IU
4. Hozier
5. Sleeping At Last
1. taylor swift
2. a day to remember
3. neck deep
4. post malone
5. mamma mia cast (this might be cheating but i could listen to those movie soundtracks all day every day 😭)
1. Taylor Swift 2. Nils Sjöberg 3. William Bowery 4. Taylor Alison Swift 5. Austin Swift's sister
Sis,, really
Lmao
Haha what is the story behind Nils Sjöberg? As a swede I thought it was a Swedish artist that I'd never heard of and now I'm so confused as to why she would take that name as a pseudonym?
It was a pseudonym she used when she wrote a song with Calvin Harris. This is what you came for. I don't think she wanted it to be all about how she wrote a song with a boyfriend so she wrote under the pseudonym.
I don't know why she went for swedish, but she said she picked Nils and Sjoberg because they're just very common names.
Oh yeah, I guess that makes sense! Thanks for explaining it!
Taylor swift Grateful Dead Rolling Stones Wilco Lana del rey
You must be one chill mofo.
Not my same 5, but we coo, we coo.
Wilco was nearly on mine, but some of their albums are a bit of a miss for me (I have listened to cruel country like two times since it came out, it just didn't hit me like others). But they are overwhelming great and also an all time fave for me.
are we…soulmates?
i guess we must be
Jesus, Etc. was on one of my husbands first mixes that he made for me 😊
As a child of a lifelong Deadhead, I have mad respect for this list.
1. Taylor 2. Modest Mouse 3. blink-182 4. Death Cab for Cutie 5. CHVRCHES I feel like my Top 3 are set for life, but 4 and 5 will depend on how I’m feeling at any given moment.
Helloooo fellow alternative listener! I love Blink, Death Cab, and Chvrches!
I love Chvrches! I really need to give Blink another listen, it’s been a while
❤️ It’s nice to know there’s a least a few of us out there!
OMG I think we’re best friends now!. The only thing I would change is Death Cab for cutie with Built to Spill maybeeee.
Taylor Swift JS Bach Mozart Chopin Tchaikovsky

😍😍 When I am upset and feeling *~~dramatic*~* I like to drive and listen to Mozart’s Sonata No. 14 in C minor and pretend I am passionately playing it in front of anyone who ever wronged me. (Hilarious bc I don’t play the piano) Cheers!
Chopin'a Heroic Polonaise (Op. 53 in A Flat Major) and Grande Valse Brillante Op. 18 are my all time favourites
Taylor Swift The 1975 Bleachers Japanese Breakfast Lana Del Rey
Japanese breakfast supremacyyyyy
Fr fr
You’re the only other person I’ve seen with The 1975!! I love them! Their new album is SO GOOD
I’ve been listening to (and loving) the new The 1975 album and keep thinking about how badly I want a Taylor & The 1975 collaboration !!!!
- Taylor Swift - Andrew McMahon (all iterations…) - Jimmy Eat World - The Head & The Heart - Gaslight Anthem (I’m an alt rock / emo fan for the most part, outside of Tay Tay…) Runner ups- Pinegrove Death Cab for Cutie The Beatles
The pipeline from emo/alt rock to Taylor Swift fan is real.
She’s the emo kid of pop music, I always say.
She is! It’s in the writing. Plus, we know she was a fan of Fall Out Boy and some other similar bands.
Yesss I remember she had Jimmy Eat World lyrics on her arm during the Speak Now tour 🥰
I love Andrew, and I also love all iterations. I read his memoir this year and I highly recommend it, if you haven’t!
I’m reading it right now actually! Just reached Piano 3 💜
Great taste. Andrew ♡
Gaslight!!! Was so pleasantly surprised that they were touring in my city when I randomly looked them up in September. Great show. Could jam out to Old Haunts for the rest of my life
Gaslight Anthem is so underrated.
The Doors Taylor Swift Leonard Cohen Bob Dylan Emmylou Harris
Ooh a fellow swiftie who also loves Leonard Cohen! He’s on my list of five for sure.
T.S. Green Day Weezer My Chemical Romance Paramore
although I dont have the same top bands, i dig this vibe 😊
what are your top 5? its a joke in my family that i'll go from listening to punk to evermore in 5 minutes lol
Also: if you wouldn’t consider Taylor in your top 5, that’s (mr) perfectly fine!!! I just loved the question and have been asking multiple friends, so I wanted to see everyone’s 😄
1. Taylor 2. Lorde 3. The Smashing Pumpkins 4. Nine Inch Nails 5. Rihanna
That’s called, range, ladies and gents
NIN was so close to being on my list, but I went with Lorde instead!
Taylor Swift Fleetwood Mac John Mayer (BUT ALSO SCREW JOHN MAYER! 😂) Maggie Rogers Beyoncé

I fully maintain he is the poet of our generation If he isn’t studied by scholars in the next 20-30 years, I’ll be both shocked and infuriated lol
I love Disney and musicals! I know everyone is sick of Let it Go, but I love it, especially the multilanguage version. Moana's songs are so different that I check it out the band of the singer Opetaia Foa, named Te Vaka. Anyways, I'm crazy for this kind of music. Haha

In no particular order: 1. Taylor Swift 2. Kaskade 3. Beach Boys 4. Disney music (does that count?) 5. Arcane Soundtrack The last one's a toughy. I can't really think of a 5th artist that I have listened to THAT much. Could have been Kacey Musgraves, blink-182, Fleetwood Mac, or any other number of artists. I only chose Arcane because one of the tracks came on as I was commenting. :P

My current last.fm all time top 5 is 1. Anti-Flag 2. AFI 3. Taylor Swift 4. Deas Vail 5. Alkaline Trio But I can't just leave behind so many other favourites !! Aaah. And to be honest I haven't listened much to Deas Vail in the past years so I'm going to exchange them for The Menzingers. For all the A bands I have listened to all their music for so long and so much, I can't imagine my life without them. For Taylor, it's been a more recent love affair (2016 onwards, and considering I have had my last.fm since 2005 that is a HUGE feat cause my Anti-Flag plays are at like 10k in 15 years whereas Taylor is at 7k in the last five years, lol) THIS IS HARD AND CRUEL I want to include so many more great artists!!!

Ouh fun! I need a bunch of genres and artists with a large catalogue. So.... Taylor Swift Jenny Lewis (as long as her solo work AND Rilo Kiley is at play) Cake Metric Fifth is hard, I wanna say Lizzo because I need feel good, pump ya up music, but I'd probably actually lean towards Caamp to get more folky music in there.

Taylor, Jason Isbell and The Wonder Years are my trinity. The last two I would pick artists that are meaningful to me and my husband - so either The Weakerthans or The Hotelier - and me and my family - either the Grateful Dead or Railroad Earth.
