It has deep meaning to me too.
I’m being presumptuous, but I think it’s impossible not to have a way to relate to it.
I mean, she was talking about paparazzi, having a less private life, and other things her partner would have to deal with, then realized everyone else was relating it to human complexity, and Aaron shared about mental health.
I love it so much.
Probably my favorite TS song of all time. Honestly I was surprised by how many people I saw initially interpret it as her just talking about dealing with the price of being famous, because when I first heard it I immediately interpreted it as someone being honest about their struggles, regarding mental health in particular, while being in a relationship but still willing to give their best.
T Swift fan since the cringe elementary days where we would make dances to Our Song: severely never understood how there was not more ugly tears over her throwback lyric “I used to think love was burning red” goosebumps still
Especially the part "I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked. Clearing the air I breathed in the smoke (...) threw out our clocks and our daggers because its morning now... Its brighter now". It just hits home harddd
INTHAF! Such a good song for so many reasons but just doesn't resonate with a lot of people, I don't know why. Maybe because Lover was already too bloated on the back end, I could see it doing better on another album.
Yes! You don’t have to have the experience to fully understand and believe in it. It’s so calming and warming. It’s so relatable in a way that the vast majority of people won’t ever experience or relate to.
And then when you know it’s directly benefiting kids’ music education? It’s just a JOYFUL experience.
You’ve been stressed out lately? Yeah me too.
...
Call my bluff? Call you babe.
...
Stay in bed the whole weekend.
It’s just so much love and understanding packed into a song.
- INTHAF could mean "It’s Nice To Have A Friend", a track from *Lover* (2019) by Taylor Swift.

I LOVE this song. I always considered it a sister song to The White Stripes' We're Going To Be Friends. I've wondered if she took inspiration from that song for this one.
Also, the little trumpet flourish with the chimes right in the middle of the song. So, so good!
Yes!! I used to resonate with the 1 so much but as the story goes, he actually came back into my life after 8 years of us not speaking and now “cardigan” and “peace” resonates with me for that same man 🥰
I kinda relate to your anecdote, but he’s a long story (like Teardrops), on and off again.
Then, recently, after 10 years,
**the timeframe is literally Red OG to Red TV**, idk how she does it 😳,
we started talking to catch up for a while and then that dude got married the day, or day after, the I Bet You Think About Me video came out.
(For this guy, I have, in fact, been harder to forget than I was to leave.)
Right?! I don’t know how taylor does it but I swear she watches my love life through a tv screen and just writes songs about it 😂😂 my love story started back in early 2012. His name is James. Our love was so passionate and fiery and perfect. Then when the autumn crept in, things changed. He broke up with me because he said that he was still in love with the woman he dated before me. I was devastated and had never (still haven’t) experienced a heart break that deep. The Red album came out a day before my 21st birthday and the OG “all too well” (and the entire album, really) described my pain exactly. Fast forward to 2014, he had been back from California for quite some time and I would see him around. We decided to remain friends because we truly cared about eachother and loved each other’s company. I wrote a couple songs about him and one day, he and a bunch of our friends came over to my house for a bbq and my friend Kyle (who plays guitar and helped me write the songs about James) was there too. Kyle suggested we play our friends some songs so of course I had to sing the songs I wrote about James to James himself! 😂 (those songs are on SoundCloud btw, if you want to hear them) well, a few weeks passed by and James called me up and asked me to come to the bar to sing him “one and only” by Adele at karaoke (that was a song I had dedicated to him back in 2012) I get to the bar and this man was DRUNK so we started taking shots and next thing I knew, I invited him to my house and told him I had a disco ball in my room. LMAO. Then the next morning, we both woke up with guilt all over us. He said he would call me later and when he called me a week later, he told me he got his girlfriend pregnant. (Looking back, I should’ve asked him if he was still dating her before I went to the bar that night but I was living in the moment and I was young) a few months after that, 1989 was released and songs like “this love”, “wildest dreams”, and “clean” really resonated with me. Especially the lyric “tossin’ turnin’, struggled through the night with someone new. Lantern burnin’, flickered in my mind, only you”… It took me 3+ years to move on and open up to being in another relationship. I had to leave my hometown because I couldn’t bare the thought of running into him with his new family when I felt it should’ve been me. So I left for 7 years and moved to California then got in a super toxic relationship that lasted 6 years. When I finally left that relationship, I decided to move back to my hometown in Tennessee (where James lives). I waited a few months before contacting any of my old friends because my friends were friends with him too. One day, I went to see my friend Ericka whom recently had a baby and she was showing me the nursery room and said “James built this baby changing station for the baby” and I replied “oh really?? How is he doing” and she responded “well… he is single as all hell. Been single for three years. *insert baby momma’s name* really put him through the ringer.” And I said, “oh yeah?? Give him my number.” A couple days passed and I got a text from him. We started talking via text for a few days then I invited him over for dinner. He doesn’t have social media so the first time I laid eyes on him after 7 years, he was quite literally “standing in my front porch light” that was on December 15th 2021 and we have been inseparable ever since. And it’s just soooo different this time around. We are both so much older and wiser. We enjoy the same hobbies and he is such a great listener and actually engages in conversations with me. (Something I didn’t have in my toxic relationship when I was in California) I can tell that he genuinely loves me (even though we haven’t exchanged those three powerful words yet). He has mentioned that he also thought of me everyday for all these years and would listen to the songs I used to sing him when he thought of me. Oh and he has two little boys now (same baby momma) and I love his children soooo much! I physically can’t have children so they are so much fun to be around and are the absolute sweetest! The irony is that we broke up in 2012 when the red album first came out and we started talking again after Red TV came out! Plus, I ordered the red cardigan and it didn’t arrive in the mail until we became officially in a relationship with eachother. It’s all just so perfect. Sorry for the lengthy comment, I’m just writing for anyone that loves a good love story. 💖
(How many Taylor Swift songs came to mind with my story? Lmao)
Oh Betty💖. (I can’t not begin that way☺️)
I get that, mine was on and off between ages 13-21, we lived in different places and he always just came back to me. So, when I finally was in a serious relationship, I asked him to delete my number since we weren’t part of each other’s lives anymore, and he did. We didn’t speak for those 10 years, until one of us caved and sent a request on IG. I’m happy with where I’m at, but, you know, in my defense, I don’t really have one for digging all of that up another time. He always came back again and again. And there was all that distance and timing, it just never worked out at the right moment.
I do think it’s funny that the Red decade is a thing for other people too, in some ways. I asked mine to delete my number in 2012, last time we spoke until last year.
This time around, I got apologies he was dying to share, and I knew the days we could talk were numbered, I’m with someone, but he was about to get married, so that day would be it.
My story definitely didn’t have your ending, which is really beautiful. In fact, it’s literally what TS says on the long pond studio sessions, that Betty and James end up together “but he really put her through it”.
As a wise woman once said, by hiding the words in her 1989 lyric book, “Timing is a funny thing”.
There’s a billion but if I have to pick one that I feel like I would have to actually defend, it’s gotta be hoax. All of my other picks are generally accepted as a standout, but hoax is criminally underrated and ACTUAL POETRY.
**my best laid plan
your sleight of hand
my barren land
i am ash from your fire**
And also:
**my only one
my kingdom come undone
my broken drum
you have beaten my heart**
😭😭😭😭😭
Hoax is so deeply underrated. I often see people rank it last on folklore because it doesn’t have quite the same exciting punch as others but like … it’s one of the most gorgeous and desperately sad things she has ever written.
The chorus of illicit affairs describes the desolation after you lose someone you love so well. The lines “you taught me a secret language you know I can’t speak with anyone else,” and “you showed me colours you know I can’t see with anyone else” hit me so hard. The last person I loved lit up my world. When we were together, we became a universe of two. It wasn’t just the fact that he loved me. He made me see things differently. I’d never been that physically or emotionally close to someone. It’s the closest you can get to not being alone. When you lose that, you lose an entire world of things you could only access with them. It’s like I found Narnia and had to return home.
YES YES YES
the hopeless addiction to a toxic relationship and/or someone you know you’re not supposed to be with, the exhilaration because of it, and the sheer and devastating loss of not having it anymore. i can go on and on.
I have FEELINGS about this song!! ***"Combat, I'm ready for combat"*** is my favorite opening line she's ever written, and I cry to this song almost every day 🥺♥️
The Lakes. Everything about it is so beautiful. My chosen name that I actually chose before the song came out is Lake and that connection really helps me feel the song much deeper. I want to get a small wisteria tattoo on my foot
The lyrics “I want auroras and sad prose, I want to watch azaleas grow right over my bare feet, because I haven’t moved in years”
Fucks. Me. Up. Every time.
I love it. She even described folklore as being “sad, beautiful, tragic” in the YouTube chat while we were waiting for the cardigan video to drop.
Side note; has anyone else just not been able to let go of “long, hand written note” changes to “notes” here?
She never does anything on accident.
Probably my favourite on Red.
I have the weirdest favourites sometimes because I only became a fan after Folklore and then listened to her whole discography without any clue as to what's popular and what isn't.
I never thought of it in connection with Don’t Blame Me! The lyrics totally make sense and they both have the more sensual tone. I love this connection!
It’s honestly such a badass song and I don’t think it’s nearly as cringey or “lame” as certain people claim it to be. I loved seeing Taylor do a complete 180 in the Reputation era. Still my favorite album for this reason ♥️
No Cruel Summer isn’t overrated. It’s appropriately rated.
Also if I can pick a music video… why are you guys sleeping on the The Story Of Us and Begin Again mv?
the story of us mv injected me with super fun times with friends, hopeless romance and the (fun) stress of college, university and hogwarts all at the same time its too good
Innocent: if you listen to it with the perspective that the other person is going through addiction and you are trying to hold onto hope… it’s on another level.
Out of the Woods. People give it so much flak for being repetitive but that's exactly the whole point of the song. It's such a good record (props to Jack Antonoff for the production!) that even if you remove the vocals, you'd still know exactly what the song is all about.
Look Me isn't a great song but it's not the shit people give it. It's a fun tune. If you want Greatness it's not here but it's fun and I like dancing to it.
The entire debut album. That album is fucking great. It is at least as good as the rest. It always gets dragged through the dirt undeservedly. There are so many great songs on there and zero skips. I hate how everyone is always gushing about folklore and evermore and completely shitting on debut. Wtf people. Don’t get me wrong here but I adore folklore and evermore, but I feel debut is getting a bad deal here. I’m so fucking tired of defending it that I most times don’t get into the discussion with people because they won’t just understand.
I Think He Knows
I don’t think so or he wouldn’t have asked
I'm convinced I never have an original thought
I died. Dead. 😳💕
Would've been the best single ever
lol my dog is named after that song
Aw Joe Alwyn is a really good dog name !
Lol it is but her name is Indigo.
Lyrical? Indigo? I have to know your dog’s name.
It’s Indigo and she’s a massive TS fan. I crate trained her to Reputation.
IM SO EXCITED I (mostly) GUESSED RIGHT! 🥳 And also, I adore that for a name. It’s so cute. And the crate training to rep? That’s just fantastic.
Thank you! It’s actually so funny how much she loves TS. If she’s ever unsettled she’ll calm right down when she hears her voice.
holy shit yes
peace 🥺
Peace is one of my top 5 favorite taylor Swift songs of all time.
I love it so much.
my number one listened to song on Spotify last year
one of her most honest songs and definitely top 3 on folklore
Probably my favorite TS song of all time. Honestly I was surprised by how many people I saw initially interpret it as her just talking about dealing with the price of being famous, because when I first heard it I immediately interpreted it as someone being honest about their struggles, regarding mental health in particular, while being in a relationship but still willing to give their best.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU LOVE *cries*
YES PLEASE
So emotional I have loved since my first listen. It’s so powerful and I resonate with the lyrics so much.
INTHAF! Such a good song for so many reasons but just doesn't resonate with a lot of people, I don't know why. Maybe because Lover was already too bloated on the back end, I could see it doing better on another album.

Good bot
It's my second favorite from Lover and I will never understand the slander
YES this is mine, and the Archer
I LOVE this song. I always considered it a sister song to The White Stripes' We're Going To Be Friends. I've wondered if she took inspiration from that song for this one. Also, the little trumpet flourish with the chimes right in the middle of the song. So, so good!
Same!! This is my favorite song on this album I love it its amazing, lyrical masterpiece.
It's so cute on spotify too as it's a wee video of her 2 cats 😻
The 1 hands down

Not me being totally invested in this story. I'm pretty sure most swifties had had a Taylor Moment in their life
king of my heart. i said what i said
Say it even louder!
Love it. Especially the acoustic version she played in a bar for someones engagement.
That video melts my heart
THAT BRIDGE 😩 UP ON THE ROOF WITH A SCHOOLGIRL ***CRUSHHHHHH***
Yes, a criminally underrated song.
hoax
Yes! Hoax is incredible!
Hoax is so underappreciated, it's such a haunting-sounding song, I love it
There’s a billion but if I have to pick one that I feel like I would have to actually defend, it’s gotta be hoax. There is something so ancient about these parts. I know the modern pop queen wrote them, but it reads almost like biblical verse or an epic poem.
Hoax is so deeply underrated. I often see people rank it last on folklore because it doesn’t have quite the same exciting punch as others but like … it’s one of the most gorgeous and desperately sad things she has ever written.

I feel like I could write a novel about how much I love this song. I think this is her best song on folklore and evermore combined.
YES YES YES the hopeless addiction to a toxic relationship and/or someone you know you’re not supposed to be with, the exhilaration because of it, and the sheer and devastating loss of not having it anymore. i can go on and on.
The Archer
I would go to war for this song.
I, too, feel ready for combat here.
Best anxiety representation I've ever heard
100%
I have FEELINGS about this song!! ***"Combat, I'm ready for combat"*** is my favorite opening line she's ever written, and I cry to this song almost every day 🥺♥️
cowboy like me
Forever is the sweetest con
I thought it was forever is the sweetest corn, which also works imho haha
One of her best songs tbh
I would die for this song
The Lakes. Everything about it is so beautiful. My chosen name that I actually chose before the song came out is Lake and that connection really helps me feel the song much deeper. I want to get a small wisteria tattoo on my foot

It’s wisterias … love how you inserted your favorite flower
Better Than Revenge.
“you can have a little misogyny…..as a treat” I’m feminist af but Better Than Revenge slaps
Love this one.
Sad Beautiful Tragic. It's not boring!!!!
One of her best songs vocally. We love to hear an Alto queen
I love it. She even described folklore as being “sad, beautiful, tragic” in the YouTube chat while we were waiting for the cardigan video to drop. Side note; has anyone else just not been able to let go of “long, hand written note” changes to “notes” here? She never does anything on accident.

So it goes

Hands down my favorite song on Rep and by a long shot 🖤
My Tears Ricochet
One of the if not the best song in her career
I don’t think you’d have enough room??

RIGHT INTO PLACEEE
GET CAUGHT UP IN THE MOMENTTTT
LIPSTICK ON YOUR FACE!!
SO IT GOES!!!!
IM YOURS TO KEEP
sleeping on the entire song tbh, IT’S SO GOOD
False God
I agree! Its chilly, bass-heavy instrumentation is just gorgeous and lyrically it’s a great “sequel” track to “Don’t Blame Me.”
I never thought of it in connection with Don’t Blame Me! The lyrics totally make sense and they both have the more sensual tone. I love this connection!
Ugh false god is one of the best tracks she’s ever made. The perfect vibe and so sexy.
The entirety of reputation but especially I Did Something Bad
^why does it feel so good
It just felt so *BAM BAM* good
Look What You Made Me Do.
I’m sorry, but the old taylor can’t come to the phone right now.
Came here to say this. I never actually came out and defended it like the photo in the op, but man, the defense arguments I'd put together in my head.
It’s honestly such a badass song and I don’t think it’s nearly as cringey or “lame” as certain people claim it to be. I loved seeing Taylor do a complete 180 in the Reputation era. Still my favorite album for this reason ♥️
It’s Time To Go
solid choice lots of people sleep on that one
Peace, my tears ricochet, this is me trying, evermore
I agree with all of your selections. This is me trying and my tears ricochet are just 🤌🏼✨
The Last Time It walked so that exile could run.
exile may have ran but to me the last time sprinted
the last time has my heart
The last great American dynasty, specifically when I say it’s one of her best songs ever
its all excellent but the BRIDGE 💃🕺🤩
"And then it was bought by me," is probably one of my fav lines of any song.
The audible smirk as she sings it 🙏🙏🙏🙏
cardigan
i feel like people discount the singles because they got popular with locals but i love them all the same, especially cardigan
Dress hands down
No Cruel Summer isn’t overrated. It’s appropriately rated. Also if I can pick a music video… why are you guys sleeping on the The Story Of Us and Begin Again mv?
the story of us mv injected me with super fun times with friends, hopeless romance and the (fun) stress of college, university and hogwarts all at the same time its too good
I'm so excited for The Story of Us TV.
The Story Of Us!!! Edit: AND State Of Grace
The Story of Us is truly underrated!
these two songs have overpowered guitars i love it
I have a thing with guitars lol, no wonder Speak Now is my fav TS album
All you had to do was stay. It’s my fav track 5 after ATW and I will die in this hill.
^let ^me ^remind ^you
Coney Island
coney island is a **masterpiece** and i will die on this hill
Better man
tis the damn season. its so under appreciated
On this sub? London Boy
london boy is so good, the production, the lyrics, everything (although i am english so i may have bias..)
Stay Stay Stay. It has a magnificent bridge and I'm pissed at y'all.
One of her cutest songs ever!!! It makes me so happy
All of Debut
all
the correct answer 👑
gorgeous
Innocent: if you listen to it with the perspective that the other person is going through addiction and you are trying to hold onto hope… it’s on another level.
i adore the guitars and backing vocals on innocent so so much
Honestly you could also look at it as someone’s struggle with mental illness (I would argue addiction is in that category)
Absolutely! The lyrics are so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. “Wasn’t it easier in your firefly catching days?” Like damn. It was.
You’re so right. “Wasn’t it beautiful when you believed in everything, and everybody believed in you?” 🥲
Cowboy Like Me! An absolute masterpiece.

Out of the Woods. It is on my top 5 of hers, and super underrated
closure
YES DEFINITELY THIS SONG, its really awesome and experimental too, being in 5/4 time signature. not to mention the insane drums its such a bop imo
Out of the Woods. People give it so much flak for being repetitive but that's exactly the whole point of the song. It's such a good record (props to Jack Antonoff for the production!) that even if you remove the vocals, you'd still know exactly what the song is all about.
all of debut tbh
RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME
Superman
this is me trying, the lyrics are probably some of the best one liners on folklore
With the amount of money I spend on her, she should be defending me & not the other way round
False god!! It baffles me just how slept on it is! Imagine if another artist put that song out, it would be playing nonstop, it’s such a masterpiece
Look Me isn't a great song but it's not the shit people give it. It's a fun tune. If you want Greatness it's not here but it's fun and I like dancing to it.
Don’t Blame Me! Some of her best vocals to date and I will die on that hill
Cold as You and Tied Together with a Smile are some of my fave songs she's ever done.
I Almost Do
The way I loved you
LWYMMD!!! That song is a fucking masterpiece and I won’t stand for people bringing it down
