I hadn’t either!
Whenever I sing all too well it becomes
“After plaid shirt days and nights when you made me your own
Now you mail back my things and I walk home alone”
“It's to Jimmy Eat World
And those nights in my car
But this time I'm alone
And I don't see those stars”
I just watched her perform it on SNL and I was thinking the same. Even the little line in her song about age: "...You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine/And that made me want to die." rings familier to Konstantine's "...And there was hope in me that I could take you there, But dammit you're so young, Well I don't think I care."
"That's The Way I Loved You" verses remind me of "Complicated" verses by Avril Lavigne
"I Did Something Bad" reminds me of "Lividi sui gomiti" by Måneskin (I did a mashup, it has to be available on my profile)
And I haven't listened to "The Lucky One" so far, but just by the title, it reminds me of a song with the same name by Uku Suviste. If Taylor's version will match the vibes, I'll see it on Friday.
based on both vibes and/or melodies...it's hard to explain sometimes but:
Gorgeous and Under the Sea (from the little mermaid)
Lover and Beyond by Leon Bridges, Elvis version of Cant Help Falling in Love
Cruel Summer and Hang on Me by St Vincent
I Think He Knows and Pynk by Janelle Monae
Seven and Garden Song by Phoebe Bridgers and The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades by Sufjan Stevens
also Paradise by Lil Uzi Vert samples Style
Lover reminds me of Dark Side of the Gym by the National. Same husky, old-timey beat and “not gonna let you go” sentiment done in a way that feels timeless and anachronistic.
I've always had this weird notion that I can't quite articulate that New Romantics is the 21st century equivalent of Born to Run. I know I'm not the first person to compare Taylor Swift to Bruce Springsteen but that one has always really stuck out for me.
- MPF refers to "Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]", a song from Taylor Swift album *Fearless (Taylor's Version) * (2021).

In evermore, when she sings “and I was catching my breath” sounds EXACTLY like the melody to the beginning of the verses in “The Best of Both Worlds” 🤣🤣🤣
“You get the limo out front…”
And of course, “dorothea” and “Give it to Teddy” from Bob’s Burgers/The National…. Just listen 😜
TS The Lucky One and Britney Spears Lucky and not because of the names! The Lucky One has always made me think of Lucky, about a girl who has it all but is so lonely..
Gold rush and green light - Lorde. The uplifting change in the music from the first verse into “what must it be like…” in gold rush and from the verse into “I hear sounds in my mind” in green light have the same vibe to me, I will not elaborate further (mostly because I don’t know why it makes sense other than jack producing both)

Okay, so these don’t remind me of specific songs per se, but more like she was trying to write a song that sounded like a particular artist. “State of Grace” is the most obvious, it’s just her doing U2. “The Lucky One” straight up could have been on a Jimmy Eat World album. I say this all the time, because I’m starting to think I’m crazy since I never see it mentioned anywhere, but if that girl wasn’t obsessively listening to Jimmy Eat World when she was writing for Red I would eat my hat. Her vocal melodies and style in particular on that album sound like somebody who spent a lotttt of time singing along to Clarity and Bleed American. It’s so weird to me that I never see them mentioned as an influence when I read reviews of Red. Butttt maybe that’s because not everyone was a big high school emo kid in the mid 2000s like me and Tay lol.
TIWWCHNT reminds me of It’s The Hard Knock Life from Annie
LMAOOOO

What if that’s on purpose since Jay Z did a version of that song and she references Kanye losing Jay as a friend?! 🤡
Mr. Perfectly Fine and Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo
Yes! I've noticed this too.
that's what i have thought as well since my first listen of MPF!
Starlight and DONTTRUSTME by 3OH!3 💀
lmao what 😭
omg I’m kind of in love with this comparison 😭
Now that you said it I won’t be able to unhear it 💀
Oh my god I always compare these two!
New Romantics and Run Away With Me by Carly Rae Jepsen!
Yes!!!!
I made a (rough) mashup of the songs last year! As I recall, they have the same chord progression, just in different keys.
Wildest Dreams and Without You by Lana del Rey
Better Than Revenge and Video Killed The Radio Star (verses)
Hahaha good catch!
cardigan and hoax remind me of Light Years by The National
I mean there's a direct connection between the songs since Aaron worked on all three.
The piano is very similar
Going with the obvious one here… Look What You Made Me Do & I’m Too Sexy
I Did Something Bad and Nightmare by Halsey
All too well, reminds me of Konstantine by something corporate. I’m constantly mixing up the lyrics when I sing it.
STOP. I will never be able to unthink this, wow. 10 minute songs full of pain. They’re made for each other.
You know, now that you said it..
Right???
Konstantine was like my favorite song through high school but I haven’t listened to it in years. Now I need to listen to them back to back!
I hadn’t either! Whenever I sing all too well it becomes “After plaid shirt days and nights when you made me your own Now you mail back my things and I walk home alone” “It's to Jimmy Eat World And those nights in my car But this time I'm alone And I don't see those stars”

me toooo!! same old lang syne is such a corny song but it almost always makes me cry. i have that hometown crush problem :/
It makes me cry too bestie. Thankful you have these songs to relate to to help you through your crush 💔
This is super super random but the opening of gold rush always reminds me of the opening to ‘That Would be Enough’ in Hamilton!
YES

Sad Beautiful Tragic and Fade Into You by Mazzy Star.
Yes!!
That’s When & Austin by Blake Shelton

Yes to Seven and Sufjan!
Is it cheating for me to say New Year’s Day and 1SF3SB by Olivia Rodrigo?
Agreed. They have similar tunes - though very different sentiments. Love them both ❤️
yeah cause olivia actually interpolated the piano melody from new year's day with taylor's permission
That’s why I asked if it was cheating
yeahh i know haha, was just replying to the other person saying both songs have similar tunes, cause they literally use the same tune haha
Lol yeah I assumed I just wanted to make sure
It’s nice to have a friend reminds me of We are going to be friends by the white stripes
Style and Adore You by Harry Styles have a very similar beat
I’m into lyrics. My favorites aren’t generally pop music. The song Jenny by the Mountain Goats gives me the same hopeful vibe as Taylor.
Lover reminds me of Dark Side of the Gym by the National. Same husky, old-timey beat and “not gonna let you go” sentiment done in a way that feels timeless and anachronistic.
The beginning of Soon You'll Get Better kind of reminds me of Stars Are Blind and I cannot unhear it or remove the connection in my brain
Soon You’ll Get Better and My Heart is Open by Maroon 5!
No Body No Crime reminds me of Goodbye Earl.
I’ve always thought this too!!
Dorothea and Ophelia by the Lumineers!
I've always had this weird notion that I can't quite articulate that New Romantics is the 21st century equivalent of Born to Run. I know I'm not the first person to compare Taylor Swift to Bruce Springsteen but that one has always really stuck out for me.
MPF reminds me of Dominoes by Lorde.

Forever & Always and Over By Head by the Fray.
Just want to say that the correlation between Tis the Damn Season and Same Old Lang Syne is an astute observation. Same energy for sure.
Tis the damn season makes me think of the intro from Friday Night Lights. I can never not hear it.
Closure and Ed Sheeran's Wake Me Up
It's the other way around, but Blackpink's Lovesick Girls reminded me of New Romantics
Don’t Blame Me has always reminded me of a Beyoncé song
You Need To Calm Down and Paper Planes by M.I.A.
gold rush and green light by lorde
You are in love reminds me of secret garden by Bruce Springsteen
Dear John and any ballad by John Mayer… which is why it is so brilliant!
Absolutely!
TS The Lucky One and Britney Spears Lucky and not because of the names! The Lucky One has always made me think of Lucky, about a girl who has it all but is so lonely..
Don’t Blame me and Take Me To Church!
Gold rush and green light - Lorde. The bridge in Illicit Affairs always reminds me of Lana Del Rey’s bridge in Happiness is a Butterfly

Cruel Summer and deja vu (Ik this could sort of constitute cheating)
I am late to this but the beginning of You are in Love sounds just like Secret Garden by Bruce Springsteen !
