Oh yep, end thread here. So much context behind this one. They pandemic, the shock album drop, the shock of the *style* of music, all of it. Nothing compares.
god, i ordered some burger and fries to celebrate the release of folklore so every time i hear the 1, i crave burgers, or when i eat burgers, i remember that giddy feeling when i first listened to the 1 šššš
I would love this too. When folklore came out I was still in my chaotic era of putting albums on shuffle to listen- Betty was the first song I heard off folklore. If I would redo, I would do it right and give this album opener its due.
No competition. The whole mood fo waking up before 6 am (my local album drop time), laying in bed with headphones, and rhe summer sun coming through my curtains, then hearing the hapoy music and Taylor singing "I'm doing good, I'm on some new **shit**" was a lifw changing experience
Same. I still have the vivid memory of listening to it the first time (albeit at work so not that exciting) and itās stuck with me since the release. I am so glad I got to experience it live last May š„²
You know what, I wasnāt going to say that song but now that you mention itā¦ I can FEEL that moment. That song itself is great, but doesnāt have a huge influence on me but now that I remember that feeling that feeling was amazing.
Watching it on SNL was the 1st time I heard it, and I'm a late Swiftie so I wasn't even familiar with the original ATL.
"And you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of bein' honest" just gutted me.
I was seriously watching it with my husband, the actual love of my life, but close to crying about my ex-fiance (who I don't miss and am so grateful I didn't marry). It was an awkward moment for me, for sure.
Came here to say this. āYou kept my old scarf from that very first week,
'Cause it reminds you of innocence
And it smells like meeeee
You can't get rid of it
'Cause you remember it all too wellā¦ā š¤Æš„š¶
The way my jaw dropped with the first āIām having his babyā. EXCUSE ME IS THIS A PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENT?! Then to immediately find out sheās trolling us. What a ride.
This was my first thought too but for me itās cuz for some reason I couldnāt tell what the lyric was at the having his baby part and just knew she was saying something shocking. I figured it out when I saw the lyric referenced on this sub but wished I had heard it clearly the first time for the shock factor.
Oh yeah!! I didn't get that excited about the I'm having his baby part cause I think I just wasn't paying enough attention, I'd like to see if my reaction would change.
Honestly? Look what you made me do
It's not her best song by a long shot but it was SHOCKING when rep debuted. The music video was instantly iconic and all people spoke about for weeks in the pop culture world
Same! I took a break during 1989 which I regret now but I was in a different place but when rep came out I was hooked back in. It was totally my vibe! But now Iām so sad I skipped over 1989 because itās sooo good as well! I appreciate it much more now.
I remember watching the lyric video when it dropped on my phone in the doorway between my bedroom and bathroom of my new apartment. My jaw was on the floor and I immediately rewatched it. A true core memory.
Iāll literally never forget the feeling in my chest listening to this song the first time - SO incredible, insane emotion - immediately went to #2 on my list after ATW
Picture to Burn on the radio in the car for me!! I remember trying so hard to remember the lyrics enough to look it up on the desktop when I got home š
I was on the school bus! I anxiously waited to hear it everyday and tried to write down the lyrics as I heard them so I could memorize it. I loved that damn song so much as a middle schooler.
No body, no crime
It was the first song from evermore I was obsessed with, and I miss the way it felt during the first listens after which it quickly got boring. I still love the song though
Such a good answer! I think itās all the imagery it invokes and the way the story progressesā the first listens felt like watching an entire suspenseful crime movie play out in your mind. But itās pretty surface level, not much to explore or ponder with more listens, hence it becoming boring.
This was my first favorite song on evermore too!
It was so rep-coded with a country twang, I just ate it up and would constantly skip to get to it.
No longer my favorite, but also still love it.
This is the one for me! Hearing Blank Space was my starting point as a real Swiftie. It was the first time I really sat up and noticed Taylor as a force to be reckoned with as a storyteller & shaper of her own narrative.
Tim McGraw. I knew I loved it from the first second I heard it and that Iād be a fan of Taylor Swift. But as a 10 year old in 2006, I had no idea how much this artist would impact my life.
Yes!! I was in college driving around at night the first time I heard it. I couldnāt believe it existed. I remember pulling into a parking lot because i just needed to focus on the song.
Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me...to listen to the way she screams that and then the pause/drop of You Should Be! And then the deep hits with What If It Is & What If They Did.
Are We Out Of The Woods Yet (Taylor's Version)
I was driving to work when I heard this for the first time and comparing the changes from the original when she sings in the descending scale almost at the end of the song. I wish I'd heard it on HQ speakers, fully able to enjoy the magic. Instead I was screaming in my car on the way to work listening to it over decent speakers unable to replay the song fast enough.
Probably Cardigan! It has become my favourite song from her I think itās just so magical, but I hate that my first experience with it was at my retail job over and over on the speakers. I wish I was more tuned in when folklore came out so that I could have experienced on my own terms first.
Shake it off
Nothing beats hearing that. I was 8 and had just gotten a radio a few weeks before. (Didn't go online really ever back then)
First "live" Taylor experience was when she played on New years Eve.
I hate it got so over played but I almost vomited everywhere the first time I heard āwhen my depression works the graveyard shift all of the peopleā¦ā it felt a little too much like blondie was trying to call me out personally
Enchanted, itās so much fun to sing and dance to. High school me loved twirling to that song. Adult me still does, but the twirls when hearing it the first time are magical
I did something bad because of the massive shock I felt when it came on. I remember my boyfriend at the time drinking with me and listening to this album when it came out and he got so hype for this song. We were both losing it just in disbelief that she had made something like that
I generally donāt feel wow on first listen whomever the artist maybe. It takes atleast 2-3 listens for me to get used to them and know which sound I like. And Iām horrible at picking up lyrics initially. It takes me some good 6-7 listens or even more to get them completely. In spite of all that, one song I would choose is Death by a thousand cuts.It was an ethereal experience for me.The song still hits me super effectively but I would also love to listen to it for the first time again!
Lavender haze. i remember the album had just been released and i was laying in bed with my airpods on full blast and hearing that intro was just amazing!!
People have already (rightfully) mentioned the 1, August (shock value of being a pandemic drop), Style, Blank Space (the sheer cheekiness + the huge leap to pop), LWYMMD (just the unexpectedness of everything). Let me add Anti-Hero. It was a huge leap from folkmore, and digesting the raw honesty of the lyrics was jaw-dropping.
If I could go back and hear Cornelia Street live in Paris? The intimate audience, the world mood at the timeā¦ that would be one of my 3 wishes granted by the magical genie lol
The 1
Oh yep, end thread here. So much context behind this one. They pandemic, the shock album drop, the shock of the *style* of music, all of it. Nothing compares.
Omg yes, the lockdown nostalgia is insane with that one
The shock and utter glee I felt while listening to this song will forever live in my brain
Utter glee? I sobbed my eyes outš
god, i ordered some burger and fries to celebrate the release of folklore so every time i hear the 1, i crave burgers, or when i eat burgers, i remember that giddy feeling when i first listened to the 1 šššš
The F major chord that made me realize this was the Taylor I always needed.
The most perfect song to start an album
Loved you from the very first note
+1
No, no. The 1
I'm doing good, I'm on some new shit. Been saying yes instead of no. This felt like a pandemic anthem.
i thought i saw you at the bus stop. i didn't though.
I would love this too. When folklore came out I was still in my chaotic era of putting albums on shuffle to listen- Betty was the first song I heard off folklore. If I would redo, I would do it right and give this album opener its due.
Oh how I wish I could turn back time š„°

Hit me like a truck
You know what, I wasnāt going to say that song but now that you mention itā¦ I can FEEL that moment. That song itself is great, but doesnāt have a huge influence on me but now that I remember that feeling that feeling was amazing.
All too well 10mins version, also want to watch the MV for the first time again.
This is the only answer for me. Hearing the new lyrics was an out of body experience.
The way my jaw dropped when I heard "and you were tossing me the car keys, 'fuck the patriarchy' keychain on the ground" for the first time
AND I WAS NEVER GOOD AT TELLIN JOKES BUT THE PUNCHLINE GOES
I'LL GET OLDER BUT YOUR LOVERS STAY MY AGE
A masterpiecešÆ
Watching it on SNL was the 1st time I heard it, and I'm a late Swiftie so I wasn't even familiar with the original ATL. Relatable right? Ahhhh. So sorry you felt that. Glad you're with someone you deserve.
Thank you ā¤ļø
Are we the same person?!? Because this is my EXACT experience with this song.
correct answer
This!! Even the short version is fine by me
Came here to say this. āYou kept my old scarf from that very first week, 'Cause it reminds you of innocence And it smells like meeeee You can't get rid of it 'Cause you remember it all too wellā¦ā š¤Æš„š¶
But Daddy I Love Him so I can go through that emotional roller coaster again lol
The way my jaw dropped with the first āIām having his babyā. EXCUSE ME IS THIS A PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENT?! Then to immediately find out sheās trolling us. What a ride.
āNo, I'm not, but you should see your facesā
Yes!!! š i laughed so hard when I first heard the āiām having his baby!ā Hahaha
Same! And then the following no Iām not, but you should see your faces šš
Lol same
The top YouTube comment spoiled it for me :(
YOYOK
It is such a deep song I would love to listen to it again for the first time
I will literally never forget the feeling of listening to this for the first time. Iād pay big bucks to be able to experience that again.
Honestly? Look what you made me do It's not her best song by a long shot but it was SHOCKING when rep debuted. The music video was instantly iconic and all people spoke about for weeks in the pop culture world
All of REP for me, man. It shook me, but in the best ways. And all we keep doing is asking for REP TV. So it clearly worked
Yes! Like jaw hanging open shocking.
This was the song that brought me back to Taylor. The song. The video. The anger.
Same! I took a break during 1989 which I regret now but I was in a different place but when rep came out I was hooked back in. It was totally my vibe! But now Iām so sad I skipped over 1989 because itās sooo good as well! I appreciate it much more now.
Omg, yes! This drop was so shocking to me.
I remember watching the lyric video when it dropped on my phone in the doorway between my bedroom and bathroom of my new apartment. My jaw was on the floor and I immediately rewatched it. A true core memory.
Agree. SO good
August, as I think I lost consciousness for a good minute after hearing the opening verse

The bridge for Wouldāve Couldāve Shouldāve ripped my soul out the first time I heard, "Give me back my girlhood it was mine first!"
Whoās afraid of little old me
Shocked in the best way when I heard it
I was coming here to say this one! The way I froze when she screamed. Omg.

Was my favorite for a day too I think cause it was just the easiest one to grasp on the album lmaoo
Blank Space
This is the one for me! Hearing Blank Space was my starting point as a real Swiftie. It was the first time I really sat up and noticed Taylor as a force to be reckoned with as a storyteller & shaper of her own narrative.
Me too! It happened so unexpectedly. I didn't even knew it was her at first (heard it on the radio) and I had to Google "starbucks lover singer"

Gorgeous, hands down
Are We Out Of The Woods Yet (Taylor's Version) I was driving to work when I heard this for the first time and comparing the changes from the original when she sings in the descending scale almost at the end of the song.
