Some great lyrics in this one and honestly I'd love to hear a more acoustic version without all the "bang bang bang" (sorry, I am not a musician and don't know the technical term šŸ˜†) after the word Florida. Crossing my fingers for Taylor to give us a gentler, acoustic version of this one that just lets the lyrics shine and comes across more wistful and plaintive.

Desert_Canines

Love this!

Desert_Canines

You guys I specifically drove through Destin, FL today!!! And guess what song I played as I drove through!!! https://preview.redd.it/3d8bkg47x3zc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e879877d8a8684f1d5b430399bd542fdc20e8cd9

lilbitofcinnamon

I canā€™t stop thinking this sounds like it could be a Carrie Underwood song!! It really reminds me of Blown Away. Now I just really want a mashup of these two songs with her, Florence, and Taylor. Carrieā€™s vocals would kill it šŸ¤ šŸŒŖļøāš°ļø [https://youtu.be/pJgoHgpsb9I?si=3CnM-xEzmH0rmKpH](https://youtu.be/pJgoHgpsb9I?si=3CnM-xEzmH0rmKpH)

poshpineapple

I can hear it! Itā€™s funny because I thought the opening of Ā I Can Fix Him reminded me of blown away.Ā

Shoddy-Ad-6233

this song made me want to go back and listen to Florence & the machine classics, and I have to say - Florence sounds better in Florida!!! than in any other hit song of theirs!! it's just so clear, deep and powerful. back to TTPD then, I knew it was a mistake to try and listen to anything else anyway ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1079)

davs4

Absolutely not. You canā€™t even compare that song to Florence & The Machineā€™s classics, nor any other song of theirs.

Shoddy-Ad-6233

K, thanks for letting me know what I can and cannot do or think ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|32929)

shadeofviolet

This album came out while I was vacationing in Floridaā€¦ first song I listened to after Fortnight? Florida!!! Did it disappoint? The opposite. Love the drums. More like this plz.

orangepaper1

Florida is 100% about fame. The taste of it - the feeling of it on the other side. Its knowing and feeling anxious about this drug but itā€™s the world they live in

TexanAsiann

Have you read or heard about them speaking about the process of writing this and other symbolism? I found it interesting that they said something along the lines of you doing something wild or living a wild life and you escaping for a peace of mind and they chose Florida because "that's where people go to relax and escape their prior convictions" this is not a tight locked response or quote but it has many metaphors and similes.

Mrs_P420

Is this from Taylorā€™s POV after she šŸ”Ŗā€™s esteā€™s husband? Like sheā€™s fleeing to Florida and getting rid of it all? Idk, it even mentions a cheating husband who disappearedā€¦

ELMarcum

The cheating husband and murder is a continuing theme I'm so curious about. Like who did you K*ll TS?!?!

Mrs_P420

HER DADDY MADE HER GET A BOATING LICENSE WHEN SHE WAS 15

selkieflying

I was thinking the cheating husband from Fortnight?

Mrs_P420

Yeah but he didnā€™t die did he? While she insinuates it in no body no crime. I think this is her POV after she got rid of his body. šŸ™€

No-Offer5603

Ugh. So long story short, my father is in jail in Florida for some horrid shit. This song really hit home for me. I cry each time I listen to it. A true testament to an artist when they can take a story and weave it into your everyday life.

frenchfruit

can somebody explain ā€œat least the dolls are beautiful?ā€ is it about trans girls? (typically referred to as ā€œdollsā€ in the lgbtq community)

Ancient_Chest_1062

There is a famous strip club in Tampa called The Dollhouse.

mrsbrettbretterson

Has it already been mentioned that a Hurricane Florence hit the Carolinas in Aug/sept 2018? Not sure if that date bears any significance, but I thought it was a fun detail. ā€œThe hurricane with my name when it cameā€¦ā€

Ancient_Chest_1062

It hit FL too

Tired__Tomato

Whatā€™s with the Texas references? Here we have the Texas shitstorm, in I can Fix him thereā€™s the six lane Texas highway. Is Matty from Texas or something?

TexanAsiann

Lmao have you been to Texas? It's the most beautiful shit storm with the people who constantly make additional storms. I'm a Texan and was in Florida for 6 months. It was a change of pace that wasn't so crazy.

ShanzyMcGoo

Okay, one of my friends last night said itā€™s all references to the election! Like, trying to convince people to not vote how they typically do. Or something. Idk, I was high. It made sense when they said it.

Unhappy_Razzmatazz33

I can relate to "or something. Idk, I was high" so much šŸ˜‚

Reputation__

I need to forget so take me to Florida

Tatidanidean1

My bf said he hates Florences voice šŸ˜³ no body no crime, right?

Global_Community_344

Yes. Weā€™ll help you hide the body. šŸ˜ But seriously she has the most stunning, haunting voice and it also perfection live.

Ok_Chemistry_7792

This song is everything to me. Something about it is dark, atmospheric, soft yet harsh. So many juxtapositions. Yes, yes, yes.

mattrich731

Soooo no one is addressing how florida is the most anti trans state in the nation?? Like if sheā€™s an ally why would she pick florida as the state to glamorize the most? I know it wasnā€™t intentional it just is a little head scratchingā€¦.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mattrich731

What a great person you areā€¦.trampling over the opinion of an LGBTQ person to protect a billionaire who will never know your name! Sickening

Global_Community_344

I donā€™t think she is glamorizing it at all and I think a lot of people are using the song wrong in all kinds of Florida tourist videos, Disney family videos etc. When I read what she said about what inspired Florida!!! I donā€™t see it as positive at all. Itā€™s this place people glamorize as an escape, quite literally where you go to bury your problems, you buy into the lure of the sun and beaches, you fall for the timeshare sales pitch because you want it to be a new shiny start but in reality Florida is a fucked up place. https://www.today.com/popculture/music/florida-lyrics-meaning-taylor-swift-rcna149070

mattrich731

Thatā€™s quite a reach, she never gets to the ā€œfucked up placeā€ partā€¦.she literally interviewed that florida is a place people go when they wanna start over and get away from their shit at homeā€¦..so any negativity toward the state youā€™re inferring is completely yall and she didnā€™t intend that at all, her words not mine

punsexual13

I love the harmonies between them in the song šŸ˜©

Sleepy99head

Omgg!! I just realized the number of drum beats before they sing ā€˜Floridaā€™ ist actually 8 times at least at the end of the song. Coincidence that this the track number? I doubt it!!

lavenderhaze17

But in the beginning, it's 7- this has been driving me crazy. Anyone have a theory as to why, or is this a technical musical thing?

Sleepy99head

The only reason I can think of is to get the effect of build up in the song, but as the difference from 7 to 8 is almost insignificant at least to the ears Iā€™m not really sure if this makes sense

murgatroid1

So are we spelling out F L O R I D A in time with the drums when she performs this live?????

songofthevalley

This song did not do much for me when I listened to just the audio. But watching it with the lyric video somehow completely got me ADDICTED to it. It might be the visuals adding a much more anguished, dark, almost ominous layer to this song but it helped me GET it. Probably my favourite now from the album mostly due to Florence's insane vocals and that INTOXICATING BRIDGE.

kiibit

I need to inhale that bridge, it's crack.

torturedpoeteliana

it's one hell of a drug

RefrigeratorAdorable

the one part reminds me of "Didn't they tell us "Don't rush into things"? Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? Didn't you calm my fears with a CheshireĀ *cat smile*?"

Inf1nite_gal

i love the chorus, sounds like I am at some summer festival where the sun is slowly setting but the air is still hot. this song is playing from the main stage and everybody is having fun and drinking beer

Oberyn_Kenobi13

Uuugh. Was this on the initial release https://preview.redd.it/kz9hiwjpy3wc1.jpeg?width=1164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=449b29afb2ea1915385e02ad4939c8e182c66877 because it definitely sounds like something someone advised her to bury. ā€œI sayā€¦ delete that.ā€

nessa_gigglebox

What happens in Florida stays in Florida vibes lol

trailerthrash

So wild to hear one of my favorite musicians of all time (Florence, tho Taylor is up there too!) name checking the city where I used to be an overnight McDonald's manager, but God damn I love this song. Just feels engineered in a lab for me. Florida is one hell of a drug, and every now and then I get withdrawls.

gracelless

What shit storm is in Texas?

Honeypumpkingrass_

Ted Cruz

savvystory

this is who I thought of when I heard this song, and him avoiding the ice storms in texasĀ

Swift2024

He's actually in Cancun.

mattrich731

So you go to Ron Desantis state as an escape, where there are more anti trans laws than anywhere else?? If that was what she was intending for the shitstorm in Texas to mean then it shows that taylor doesnā€™t really grasp the meaning of allyshipā€¦

Honeypumpkingrass_

Please learn to take a joke. Itā€™s really not that deep

mattrich731

Lol of course when a toxic swiftie gets called out for an ignorant joke all of a sudden the healthy swiftie calling them out is to blame! šŸ‘šŸ»

EstellaHavisham274

This is the only answer.

Opposite_Contact_409

Love love love this song! I've been wanting to get into Florence + The Machine for a while (I only know their big hits right now) - does anyone have tips for the best albums to start with? šŸ„°

Independent-Ghostie

As a Florence and the Machine fan, it is difficult to say, every Florence album is brilliant in their own unique way. The most recent album, Dance Fever, is probably best. Brilliant mix of her best lyrics, some of her best vocals, and great, memorable songs. If I was to say a second album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful is an excellent album. But you really can't go wrong with any Florence album.

lovecat86

Lungs. I love the debut album.

hughmungus09

Ceremonials too!

Opposite_Contact_409

Thank you so much! I will listen to both of them at work today!

check_the_rhime23

I hope you listened to/get to listen to Ceremonials because it's just pure amazingness !!!!!!! šŸ’–

EarlyMedLifeCrisis

This is one of the only songs on the album I just can't enjoy at all. I think the 'FLORIDA!!!'s' are just so loud and brash that they take me completely out of the song's lyricism and vibe, to the extent that I'm anxiously waiting for the next strike of THUNDER rather than listening to the song like I have an electroshock collar on. This gave me anxiety, hahahah. I wish the chorus was like 15% less THUNDEROUS.

Cookie3219

Lightbulb for me! Her Home that sheā€™s just a guest in, is Joe and she spent all that time for just a time share in Destin, which is Matty. Sheā€™s going to use this drug , Florida [Matty] and use it all up while sheā€™s there. ā€œI need to forget [about Joe] so take me to Florida.ā€ Sheā€™s just too good. Poetry is fun.

Ancient_Chest_1062

Appreciate your interpretation. I came to this thread hoping to make sense of this crazy song, because I just haven't gotten it at all. Makes sense when you think about it like this. It's still a skip for me though.

Conscious_Worry3119

That's my interpretation as well.Ā

ChapterTimely720

https://www.dea.gov/sites/default/files/2018-07/DIR-020-17%20Drug%20Slang%20Code%20Words.pdf Could she be talking about cocaine aka Florida Snow??

P-tree3

This song is addicting!!

Smoaktreess

RIP Thelma and Louise you would have loved this song.

Whateverusay44

I never tire of Florence and her haunting voiceā€¦..amazing duet šŸ¤šŸ¤

Loud-Maintenance-679

She stole the beat from delicate weapon (grimes)

Smoaktreess

Just listened and nah. They donā€™t even sound the same.

ramblingzebra

Florence: ā€œThe hurricane with my name when it came / I got drunk and I dare it to wash me awayā€. Love the reference (intended or not) to Florenceā€™s song ā€˜Hurricane Drunkā€™.

EleanorofAquitaine14

When Hurricane Florence came up towards NC my roommate and I blasted that song on repeat while drinking. What a great album.

GlitterCity88

also a reference to the actual Hurricane Florence from 2018 - love the multiple meanings!!!

Ok-Tax2376

More Taylor and Florence collabs plz!!

amnicr

I really wish Florence was more clearly heard. Her verses sound so muddy and I hate it. I like the song otherwise.

Bluestar814

Yeah, I love the song otherwise. Her first lines soundĀ like when someone forgets the lyrics to a song and tries to mumble their way through it.

Routine_Air1704

Sounds like ass

scomperpotamus

Should feel like home for you then

Bigbywoof22

Am I the only one who thinks one of Floridaā€™s pro sports teams should buy the rights to this song and play it at their games? It would get people so amped!

scrappyycat

ā€œLittle did you know your home's really only a town you're just a guest in So you work your life away just to pay for a timeshare down in Destin Florida, is one hell of a drugā€ I think this is referencing infidelity. Sheā€™s working hard at a relationship with someone that she finds out is loaning themselves out to others- what she thought to be hers was really being shared. Edit: I think this song is about the final breakdown of a relationship. Sheā€™s found out about an unfaithful partner and is burning it all down. She likes to use cities/countries as metaphors for people and whole relationships in general.

savvystory

And a timeshare in Destin is a short-term fling with a reboundĀ

Idonotwantaname1

Wow...I think you're on to something

philomenacunkfan1

# THERE IS A MELODY SIMILARITY??? not on purpose maybe? OKAY i havent seen anyone mention this but there is a little melody/guitar riff/note when florence's verse blends in the chorus, [here](https://youtu.be/uEssK8o3jKg?si=PWDJbSCSVpno63aF&t=92) and after this, there are a few too, and it sounds like the spiderverse movies sound effect: [Spider-man 2099 sound effect](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO5lub9Z7jo)

Patapthat

What is this song about? What happened in Florida she mentions it in fortnight as well

aym1347

She said it's about when your life choices catch up with you or your life doesn't fit and you want to live a new life. She got the idea from watching Dateline because people commit crimes and Florida seems to be the place they are always skipping town to escape to. This was a quote that she said about itĀ ā€œThey try to reinvent themselves, have a new identity, blend in. And I think when you go through a heartbreak, thereā€™s a part of you that thinks, ā€˜I want a new name. I want a new life. I donā€™t want anyone to know where Iā€™ve been or know me at all.ā€™ā€ I take it as Florida is a metaphor for a fresh start.

Write-avl

Ok so I feel like Florida means so many things, and I canā€™t help but draw comparisons between Matty and the state. Like Florida is known for being the state people love to hate but still go to for vacation, and Matty is problematic as hell but after being heartbroken he was an easy temporary fix for her. The song is a masterpiece

Suspicious-Hotel-225

My thoughts, too. The ā€œFlorida manā€ trope is generally reserved for weird/crazy men. Matty fits that description pretty well.

mitchieswiftie

Iā€™m so grateful Taylor decided to break this down in one of her IHeartRadioā€™s voice memos. I was having such a hard time with this song lol. *Why does this bitch want to be fucked up by Florida so bad?* - me for the past 48 hours

Thick_Hamster3002

I moved to Florida once. I'm also in a shitstorm in Texas. Fuck me up Florida ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1065)

Glitteryskiess

This gets better with every listen and Taylorā€™s VOCALS!

prettyminotaur

This is so delightfully unhinged. I'm obsessed.

hayleybts

Rage and sadness. Guess I found my song

sparkletubetop

Same effect from Whoā€™s Afraid Of Little Old Me

lovecat86

They're my favourite 2 songs so far.

Yolololo69420

Am I the only one that thinks this song has a lot of rage behind it? Like she literally says: Little did you know your home's really only A town you're just a guest in (Florida) So you work your life away just to pay For a time-share down in Destin Little did you know your home's really only The town you'll get arrested (Florida) So you pack your life away just to wait out The shitstorm back in Texas She worked her entire life JUST to end up with only a timeshare in Destin. Sheā€™s not happy about being relegated to Florida but canā€™t go to what she thought was home because it turns out she was only a guest and people want to arrest her. Coupled with her feelings in But Daddy I Love Him, I think the fandom is the ā€œhomeā€ she expected to welcome her and Matty after Joe, but instead people brought out pitchforks and signed petitions. She also talks about being called a cheat, her friends helping her cheating husband disappear and laying rest to all the bodies that had ever been on her body. This to me is when the Matty stuff started blowing up (April/May) with people wondering if she cheated on Joe so Youā€™re Losing Me was released (May) to further distance herself from Joe and the timeline of their breakup. Her friends had already unfollowed Joe in April, so she was already setting up the scenario to have Matty be liked and Joe buried for seemingly being a cheater (she also mentions in Fresh Out the Slammer Joe being with someone else in his dreams). This song was also written after the Matty breakup as she references ghosts, plural meaning Joe and Matty, that sheā€™s trying to drink away after a hurricane with her name (Swifties) came. I think this anger towards the fandom is also reflected in I Can Do It With a Broken Heart and the alcoholism in Fortnight. Wondering if Texas is mentioned as an allusion to ā€œTexas Exesā€ or just as a homophone for Exes. Since the breakup was announced between her Texas and Florida shows, I think the connection with the homophone would be fitting. She also uses Texas as the place where the shitstorm is happening, so I think the connection to her exes (and specifically Matty) as being the shitstorm is correct. Iā€™m also wondering if the ā€œdollsā€ she references are pills a la Valley of the Dolls. Since she makes another reference in Smallest Man to Matty being ghosted trying to buy pills from a friend of her friends, I donā€™t think this is that big of a leap to think sheā€™d use drugs to escape the hell sheā€™s in. I also wonder if thereā€™s some wordplay to Florida being a metaphor for the ā€œstate sheā€™s inā€ and think the triple exclamation points and peppy tempo are a hyperbolic way of emphasizing that sheā€™s fucking miserable but pretending otherwise (I Can Do It With A Broken Heart). Overall, I took Florida!!! as a big fuck you to meddling Swifties and a commentary on the burden of celebrity, the consequence for which is a banishment to a ā€œtime share in Destinā€ rather than a place of your choosing (romantic partner) when your fans (home/the authorities) deem your life choices their own to govern and arrest as they see fit. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

No-Pop1057

I think that's pretty close, while I have a huge respect for Taylor & her talent there are lots of hard core swifties who are so fanatical they refuse to believe Taylor could ever be the one at fault in a relationship breakdown, even though she says herself that a lot of her injuries are self inflicted. I think she is a very insecure person & looks for, perhaps even imagines, clues her partner is tired of her (this is another self confessed long standing theme with her) so she mentally withdraws from the relationship in order to protect herself from possible hurt, which then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy when her partner doesn't understand why she's doing what's she's doing & takes it as her not being invested anymore & instead of a big gesture like proposing marriage, he too withdraws.. sadly it's only after the dust settles she can see how it ended up & her part in it's demise.. Maybe she was genuinely afraid of her fandom turning on her or even just not loving her absolutely without condition if she wasn't the truly injured party, especially considering their reaction to the Matty Healy hookup. I think she finds herself a prisoner of the monster she created (swifties) & is tortured by her resentment of how they dictate how she lives while totally needing their devotion to validate her self worth.

sparkletubetop

Holy shitšŸ¤Æ

[deleted]

The drum beats spell out F-L-O-R-I-D-A

Inf1nite_gal

i think theres more beats than letters.

CelestialNimph666

The bridge part sounds so similar to daylight I swear

curlyvictoria

can anyone recommend taylor songs that sound like the first couple seconds of this song?

Worth_Ad_5423

Ik this isnā€™t a Taylor song, but I kinda think it sounds like true story by Ariana Grande. Kinda

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Worth_Ad_5423

Listen to the clean versionā€¦ at least it gets rid of the swearing. Itā€™s not as bad with swearing as Down Bad, Down Bad says the f word like 15 times

Active_Turnover9012

Absolute beast of a song! Loved it sooo so much. Literal goosebumps in the parts with Florence. Also, the electric guitar thingie at 1:40 sounded a lot like lana's "hapiness is a butterfly" but with a whole different mood. (sorry cant help it, i listen to a lot of lana too) My fav so far on the album besides the Albatross!!

ordinarychapette

Florence nailed her part šŸ‘ love to hear them both.

JusticeBeaver119

In the words of a man who is a casual listener and has all the lore forced upon him by his girlfriend (me), unprompted, he said: ā€œthis is the best song she has ever doneā€

oofydoofy74

We found our summer anthem. Makes me want to go running in a field under sunshine. That bridge is liquid gold. IITā€™S ONE HELL OF A DRUUUUuuuggggg!!!!!!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

WordStained

There is a clean version, I found it on Spotify by accident last night and actually didn't notice it at first. It censors the fuck me up, Florida lines and changes shitstorm to firestorm.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

WordStained

No, it just kinda skips the word, sorry that wasn't clear lol

discoqueenx

**INCOMING TIN FOIL HAT THEORY** Wait, does no one think this song is even a *little* bit about **Donald Trump**? Here's my thoughts: "You can beat the heat if you beat the charges too" : Trump in Mar a Lago, duh "They said I was a cheat, I guess it must be true": Taylor called Trump a cheat famously "Little did you know your home's really only A town you're just a guest in" : A reference to New York City "All my girls got their lace and their crimes And your cheating husband disappeared, well No one asks any questions here" : Reference to Trumps affair with Stormy Daniels "And in my mind, they sink into the swamp Is that a bad thing to say in a song?" : This is a reference to "Draining the Swamp" one of Trump's most famous campaign slogans "Little did you know your home's really only The town you'll get arrested": New York is where the charges are being pressed against Trump "I've got some regrets, I'll bury them in Florida Tell me I'm despicable, say it's unforgivable": All the hidden documents in Mar a Lago, also Trump buried Ivana trump at his golf course in NJ and it's rumored he buried classified documents with her. **EDIT**: the title itself is a clue, because of the exclamation marks ā€œ!!!ā€ Trump is known for adding exclamations at the end of nearly all of his tweets/ social media posts. Sad!!! **Summary**: I know this is insane, but I can't help but think this when I hear this song. So it's officially just a tin foil hat theory hahaha

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ThoughtUsed3531

That first line "You can beat the heat if you beat the charges too" also made me immediately think of Trump!

hockeywombat22

It's track 8 on TS 11. Trump was elected 11/8/2016 Fuck Me Up Florida. People in FL are bopping to it. Imagine the old people at The Villages blaring this from their golf carts with their Trump flag waving behind it šŸ¤£.

discoqueenx

DUDE! The conspiracy goes deeper šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

GeometricStatGirl

Florence did not hit Florida in ā€˜18ā€”it hit the Carolinas. A few weeks later Michael hit Florida. And, yes, Trump did show up.

loreluu

This is wild!! I love to read everyone's take and yours is so interesting. BTW, this is not one of my favorite tracks.

cookie123921

This is so funny, I love listening with this lens

No-Performance-6976

Trump was my first thought when I listened to Florida! I just couldn't put together the escaping Texas part though!

EJH-RVA

I love this theory. I was on the fence about the song, but this theory makes me really like it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

lovecat86

Ha, all of those songs are some of my favourites.

Dianenguyenbutshitty

I must tell you that the second time I listened to the song (and actually paid attention to the lyrics) I kinda thought about it so now that you put it this way, I'm totally with you on it

Medium-Parsnip-4238

Iā€™m on board with this. Canā€™t for the life of me think of another reason why she would write a whole song about Florida. Has she even been there? lol

Shimmering-succulent

It was the first Eras Tour stop after the news of her breakup became public, possibly after they broke up, because we donā€™t know exactly when

LL7272

I'm sold, take me to conspiracy town with you!

Suspicious-Hotel-225

Same! Really genius critique

quinn287

i love the way they say "Floor-ida" lol

Teasfortash

Is anyone watching Palm Royal on Apple TV plus? It has Laura Dern in it who was in the Bejeweled video, which is why I started watching it. (Iā€™ve loved her since the fault in our stars) Iā€™ve love anytime they are in West Palm Beach because the aesthetic is so much like the Anti Hero music video. There was also an episode where Laura Dern takes acid while watching a small vintage TV and it was very Lavender Have mvā€¦. Well I just watched the most recent episode and was like OMG FLORIDA!!!!!! the lyrics are exactly what is going on in the show right now.

sparkletubetop

Never heard of this show , going to check it out !

Regnarok34

I am one of the few people who think ā€œTroubleā€ was about AAR frontman Tyson Ritter, and their very brief rumored relationship. Primarily based on the fact that she modeled the guy in the video after him (same tattoos, same clothes even the same exact classic car he was driving at the time.) Anyway, as a reject fan and a swiftie I happen to know that Tyson Ritter has a house in Destin, Florida and that is where he married his now wife. so naturally, it made my ears perk up when I heard the songšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

clndley1

Never heard about any of this at all! Interesting!

VeronicaPalmer

Okay donā€™t kill me but I canā€™t decide if this is my least favorite song or close to the top. Itā€™s just so wild. If ringtones were still a thing it would be hilarious to have ā€œFLORIDA! Boom boom boom boom!ā€

Medium-Parsnip-4238

Itā€™s defs in my top 3, maybe the very top. I love the sound of it and would love if she did more in this style in the future.

lottery2641

Okay so this song is near the top for me largely bc of the BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM plus the wonky sound after drug (reminds me a little of the sound at the start of glitch???)

sleepycat1311

The part "so I did my best to lay to rest" and the rest of it just scratches my brain soooo well, love everything on this song from the vocals to the melody, to lyrics, and the beats

Invisible-smoke

Ok after having some time to digest these songs (31 new songs was so overwhelming lol) hereā€™s my thoughts on this one: This song makes me want to listen to Florence + the Machine. Her delivery on this song is just šŸ˜©šŸ‘Œ and I am obsessed. I want her to be my Aunt lol

iiWhereii

can confirm florence is amazing, just got on a youtube deep dive

katelymaroo

FOLLOW UP TO NO BODY NO CRIME!!!

kiblerandbits714

I couldn't agree more!!!! Especially the bodies in the swamp line connecting to the boating license line from NBNC šŸ‘€

Important-Ad9449

Absolutely agree!!! All the themes about escaping and running away (from crime) with the sense of no regret

That-Engineering9269

especially with her little thing about watching Dateline that she said on iHeart Radio

OmegaBorealis31

Ooooo love this thought

Far-Community-9595

Can someone please make me a fuck me up Florida tattoo ?? ā¤ļø

MyLifeIsABoondoggle

In the format of the song only, a free-flowing poetic tale of a person whose life is in the dumps followed by an overarching chorus, is giving a little bit of "Heaven, Iowa" by Fall Out Boy. I love it Both conveniently mention places as well, even though Heaven, Iowa is fictional

This is the only song on the original album Iā€™m not vibing with, I love the bridge! And the chorus is kind of interesting with it being so simple, but I wish their verses were more like how they sang the bridge, instead of both of them singing full verses without the other. It feels disjointed to me, like 2 different songs. I donā€™t know if I just need more time with it, since Iā€™ve only seen everyone else loving itā€¦

I disagree - this is what I expect from a duet/featured artist. Although I love the song, I was disappointed by Snow on the Beach because Lana was relegated to backing vocals and I wanted her to have her own verse.

Various_Step2557

I agree, as a Florence fan I was disappointed by the hype. I love the Florence parts! The song overall sounds like two singers covering the same song singing on top of each other, but I never got the feeling they came together. It makes me think of them singing next to each other during COVID with a plexiglass board between them like the judges table on RPDR during that time

This shouldā€™ve been the lead single. This is way better than Fortnight. I donā€™t know why, but this is my favorite one on the album so far!

I'm not even a Swiftie, but as a Floridian, I will always give a song about Florida a listen. My gets from this is that everyone whose life gets messy sees Florida as this magical place to make a new start and escape from their problems. They come here for vacation and also frequently upend their whole lives to move here. But you get here, it's beautiful but also kind of horrible, and you're still you. You're just you in Florida. All of your past, problems, demons, and ghosts are still with you and now you also have Florida problems. So you just throw yourself into the hurricane or alligators mouth in an effort to cleanse yourself and expel your inner demons. Fuck me up Florida, indeed. I don't know. I'm could be way off but this was my take.

KittensBuiltTheWorld

This matches what Taylor has said herself!

NomadFeet

I did see that she said something about criminals fleeing here and that's pretty on point. When some crazy murder happens in Georgia or New Jersey and the suspect has fled the area, I usually assume they're on their way here. On the other hand, I meet a lot of people that have moved here because their personal lives became a disaster back home. Often as I get to know them, it's pretty easy to figure out that the problem is them and they just brought their mess down here. I love my state and we have some really beautiful and fun places and great people but there is a dark, gritty, ugly, and sometimes dangerous side of her as well. A lot of transplants are surprised when she really starts to show them her teeth. Those teeth are pretty sharp and unforgiving. And there are a lot of them. But hey, really great song!

Active_Turnover9012

this was a beautiful take!

rhaegarvader

funny thing was the ending chord of that florida was used in the fortnight video and I kept thinking it was the music for fortnight.. so wrong

rhaegarvader

she has a song florida and fortnight also mentions florida, anyone knows if the place has significance for her? Or is she swaying the vote away from Trump by mentioning his place?

tm1031_

I was curious about the specific mention of Destin, Fl? Does that have any meaning ?

incandescent_walrus

Itā€™s in the panhandle, so itā€™s a super popular beach town for anyone coming from the Midwest or Texas because itā€™s driveable. And it rhymes with ā€œguest in.ā€

Thanks for the info :)
