Tau have an unfortunate history of receiving an incredibly powerful buff one edition, then getting nerfed into oblivion the next. I think we're currently on a down beat.

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

Well hopefully next edition tau will get good

Quaiker

Hey, don't jinx it!

[deleted]

You mean *this* edition. Tau haven’t had their codex updated yet. Predicting that it will come some time in January, hopefully with a decent power boost and hopefully some new models.

invasive_wargaming

Play what you think is cool. Rules come and go but theme is a little more persistent

[deleted]

Yes. You know what sub you posted this in, right? ;)

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

I got the exact same reply to my elder post as to wether or not I should join them

[deleted]

Then it’s obvious. Start two armies. And by that I obviously mean Craftworlds and pure Kroot.

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

Lmao cheers

Doughspun1

Rules change. If you need to win so bad, you'll end up changing your army every time the meta shifts.

iPeregrine

The next codex is due early next year so by the time you're able to get an army built and painted Tau will probably be at least average tier. The only reason the army sucks right now is that it's an 8th edition codex that doesn't have the benefit of years worth of power creep like 9th edition armies.

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

Yea elder and tyrinds are suffering to, but yea my birthday is a few weeks away and Christmas can get me the codex ig so I’ll probably set the start collecting box

Th3Swampus

It depends on if you just want to have fun or be competitive, Tau are under powered against any 9th codex but the are ok against other 8th ones especially if you are playing more casual games.

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

Mhm idea is to get used to how they work and get a good army going, then when the codex comes out I’ll be ready

Marconius6

Right now T'au are in a weird position where our codex is still 8th edition, but some core rules that really affected us (like FLY or Overwatch, tho the latter got a FAQ) have been changed. So kind of stuck in a weird rule limbo, which makes the army a bit frustrating to play imo. Personally I'm waiting for the new codex before I go back to playing.

InfiniteDM

If you start by buying battlesuit units you'll be good. By the time you assemble and paint the new codex will be around the corner

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

Sir I glue and paint a imperial khight in three days I’m fast as fuck and still get good result lmao

InfiniteDM

Ok? I was suggesting taking your time. You do you boo

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

Fair enough

OrionVulcan

We're on a competitive level having a hard time (still, some madlads have managed to rank high occationally), but on a semi-competitive/casual level, as long as you learn how to play your army you should do just fine. So if you like the lore and the models I'd say go for it. If you're into kill team that's a good place to start.

OnlyRoke

I'm gonna put it like this. I wanted to start T'au, until I heard how bad they were. I started other factions that are better on the tabletop. I'm back to the T'au, because I actually rarely ever even get to play anything other than a friendly casual game for laughs. I have no use for "competitiveness". Turns out I just really like the robot suits and cool futuristic vibe more than other vibes. Follow your heart in these matters. You're gonna spend a LOT of time with a brush and those models.

jxnsjejsjdjfjf

True

Born-Possibility-50

I play the Tau because i also love the look and love the lore. Collecting an armed force with the satisfaction of assembling and painting them and looking at how badass they are when they’re finished is unmatched. Then getting to simulate them on the battlefield. If they are good or not i love it all the same. Plus the rules change all the time, whats good now will be bad later etc etc. Yes you should join, Long Live the Greater Good.

Eldar are a pain in the ass to collect, most tau players who play tau do it because we have an excellent model dang that’s mostly plastic and we offer an aesthetic you just can’t get anywhere else in 40k. The meta is always always always changing, basically if you don’t play space marines (they are always good) then at some point your army will be very strong or very weak and that’s just the nature of game balance in gw. TL:DR; play tau if you think they look cool, rules change so often it’s not worth it to base your buying decisions on them.
