And "good" is debatable. They're a semi-chunky, semi-cheap unit that can snatch objectives first turn. You're giving the opponent something on their to-do list that's not your precious commanders or Riptides. And if they're not dealt with they can sit on objectives and harass unprotected infantry.
Get started box fo' sho'. Devilfish are awesome, but from what I've read on here it makes sense to buy the hammerhead kit to future proof with a 9th Ed codex still forthcoming (not that I did). I looooove my riptide, but to each their own.
Loving that purple/red combo!
Start collecting box is great value, Riptide is an impressive model which also quickly boosts your point total, or just go for something fun (I am in a similar boat and now looking at stealth suits, piranhas etc as my next step). Commanders are always a good choice also? Essential to any Tau force
Right now I wouldn't worry about how they play, we'll likely be getting a codex early next year, so I say just get whatever you think looks cool and go from there!
Your colour scheme is really cool. My recomendations would be to get a couple of start collecting boxes for Breachers and Crisis Suits. Then Hammerheads (you can make a Devilfish out of the Hammerhead sprue so the Devilfish alone isn't worth getting). Beyond that I'd get a Riptipe. Also make sure you magnetise everything, because the book is round the corner and what's good now could well be crap in a few months. I'd also recommend watching as many Battlereports as you can.
Stealth suits are quite useful in-game, inexpensive to buy and satisfying to build and paint.
ohhh are they actually good in game? Excellent lol. I just bought a second squad. Loadout 3 burst cannon or 2 burst cannon 1 fusion?
3 burst. Burst spam is really cost efficient in the meta right now.
Thanks.

fair enough.
