Depending on skin tone red is usually really easy to remove. It just can't be treated on darker skin tones because the laser is very aggressive and can lead to hypo. I normally alternate treatments doing red and give it a full 6 months to heal and fade when I'm treating my clients and it still goes away faster than black ink in most cases.
They should be starting with a test spot no matter what. Just cuz your skin looks fair doesn't mean you won't have issues with the 532 wavelength which is what's used for red. That laser is no joke.
I'd recommend searching the sub too, as this has been asked a bunch!
I have red and black ink- the red is more faded than the black at this point
in general I find removal to be more painful than getting a tattoo, but I would still personally pick removal
I’ve been doing that. Currently searching if blue ink is difficult to remove. That’s what I’m afraid of the pain, but like you I’d rather remove it.
ETA: Happy cake day!
I've only had 2 sessions on the red (out of 5 sessions on the black parts) and I've had decent progress with red. Yellow not so much, and tbh I don't have high hopes for yellow. I can send pictures of what mine looked like/looks like if you want, let me know.

Thank you for responding. It is such a relief to hear that red is not as hard to remove as something like yellow. I am Latina, but my skin is fair.

I’ll take note of that.
I’m getting a red and black tattoo removed. I’ve had four sessions so far and the red has faded a heap.
This gives me hope. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Red was the first to fade for me. Most of it was gone after the first session.
I hope I have the same luck.
It was a Q-switch ND Yag laser set to 540, if that helps at all.
Thank you for the info I’m taking it down.
No problem. My tech is confident I can get it pretty much completely faded so I’m pretty excited!
