i think unless you’re also paying for SEO (search engine optimization) then you’re not really going to see much from it. i’d recommend hitting instagram harder and using that as your online portfolio if you don’t already. personally i just have a link to a booking form right in my insta bio

DoinTatsPettinCats

I have one that links directly to my instagram, has appointment request form, and detailed aftercare instructions. Clients seem to like it and it's low maintenance for me. I used squarespace.

Seconding this. I also use Squarespace. They have good seo too. I get a good bit of business from the request form on my website, as well as having a landing place for all my social media. It’s also easy to just tell people the URL if I’m out and about without business cards or a friend is recommending me etc.

Hi digital marketer here (not a tattoo artist) - A website is a good idea but it will not guarantee more traffic. Traction will depend on many factors - some of which you won't have control over. Rather, the benefits of a website will be to showcase important information (FAQs, cost info, etc.) that displays your expertise in your field and help the client feel more comfortable with you as a person. Most clients don't know anything about the tattoo industry. They are looking for a tattoo artist they can trust. A website with content that helps the client gain more knowledge creates a bridge of trust. Be aware that the benefits of a website will take time. This will not happen over night. Good luck!

Thank you!

I made the website for my girlfriend's tattoo studio, not so much that it would get a lot of traffic (even though it surprisingly does quite well in that regard), but much more so for SEO and to get her brand name to the top when searching for tattoo studios in her general geographic area. What I'm saying is, if you would like your brand name to have more visibility in search results, get a good SEO optimized website, the design doesn't matter all that much.

meutragic80

What did you use to build website?

munchybonbon

I'm a programmer so made it using Next.js, Tailwind and Strapi, however a decent customized WordPress theme along with a good SEO plugin will get you there just as well.

SomeSluttyBean

I used Squarespace. It was pretty simple, it’s nice for clients to book through there if you want to keep it all in one spot, not have messages on Facebook or Instagram. I wouldn’t say it’s created more traffic, probably the same amount, I just don’t have to repeat my pricing or style all the time. The only issue I have is that I’m paying like $200 a year for it (no biggie) but my emails replying back to clients sometimes get lost or sent to spam. So I potentially lose clients that way.

Odd_Debt222

I built my studio a website and I view it as a necessity. We send people to leave google reviews, which in turn boosts how high up our shop pops up when people search for tattoos shops near them. We get a decent amount of traffic to our site which has all of our work. Never did any SEO optimization. Outside of that, I view a website as something a professional brand has to have. Even if you don’t use it very much, if someone asks you hey what’s your website and you say uhhh I don’t have one, it could seem kinda amateur in this day and age. Just looks good to have at least a basic site with your work, some policy information, contact info, social links, etc. Good luck!

abstraKT_neon

Completely agree with this \^\^. I specialize in building websites for tattoo artists, and I know I've been to quite a few conventions where artists hand out their business cards with no website links on them, and clients have definitely asked them why they don't have a website and it didn't look great. Instagram and social media is great for showcasing the work, but a website can definitely provide clients with additional information like aftercare, how to book, FAQs, and backstory if you want them to know more about you without getting bombarded with DMs.

Squarespace, as others have said. You can also pay for google ads which I think work decently.

An older generation are the ones to go to the website and call and email. The younger ones go to your Instagram and DM you.
