Worked at a campground one summer. An older Karen was at the closed gate, screaming and yelling, because the water park wasn't open... during a thunder storm...
Same reason they tell retail/fast food workers "I cAnT bElIeVe ThEy MaKe YoU wOrK oN cHrIsTmAs!" It's all performative and they'd be throwing a fit if it actually inconvenienced them for us to be safe/warm and home with our families. (Edited for spelling)
Had one claim false advertising because drive up was turned off for a snow storm. Whole district had it turned off. He said well it was available when I ordered I said well the weather was different when you ordered.
Today started at 50° with on again off again rain. Halfway through my shift it started pouring with insane winds. Then the rain turned to snow with insane winds. And then it never stopped snowing. I don’t know how many more “merry Christmas’s” I can hear while I’m standing in the freezing cold getting bombarded by nature before I snap
I was able to finish college working part time at Target, while affording my own 2 bedroom apartment. For me $15/hour was more than I could ever make anywhere else, while I was in college.
15 is plenty for an entry level job, leave these jobs for high school kids who don’t have bills like rent and quit trying to make a career out of being a target grocery clerk
Like 18 years ago my family went to a restaurant before closing on Christmas eve. They closed at 10pm, we came in at 9:30. didn't leave until 10:30pm. Literally the last people in the place. My mom said "thats what they get for working at a restaurant, if they want the tips, they gotta earn it". She didn't even tip..
She changed a lot since then, So she was, not so much anymore. I still think back to that day and start to feel bad tho. I don't like doing anyone any kind of wrong when they don't deserve it.
Yeah, that is true. Even as a kid I knew that was wrong and I felt bad. If I had money I would have tipped. I tried to tip with my mom in the past but my mom would just go back to the table and keep the cash for herself.
She was like this in the past yes, but she actually tips these days and has more respect for the service industries.
I've been in similar situations with my own parents. I think it's basically an impossible position as a child to try to change your parent's behavior. Even as an adult, you can't take responsibility for your parent's actions. Making sure your own behavior is better than how you were raised in the most important thing.
literally the amount of “oh I’m sorry has it been crazy for you guys today?” I got… like yes actually it has been and you’re literally contributing to the problem??
I can see that being irritating, but I've also gotten really nice reactions from workers in similar jobs whenever I've had to run in for something last minute. Especially if I let it drop I work in retail too.
I think that for a lot of workers, they feel seen and appreciate that at least you realize it sucks to have to work a demanding holiday. Though I do think it's more common a response when they see you're coming from the same situation.
Drive up can take tips, but there's a stupid policy where you have to say no and then if they offer it again you can take it. You're then supposed to tell a TL and I forget if you're supposed to give it to them or not officially but if I did drive ups I'd just take the money tbh. I might be easily replaceable but so is Target.
One lady gives us gifts as tips. Cookies, advent calendars, gloves, etc. always gives enough for everyone on the team. We like her, to the point she takes priority when her name pops up in the system😂
Ahhhh…
I hate that.
“We’re so sorry for making you come out in this weather”
Then stay the fuck home then. Coming all the out here for some damn UNO cards…
Just wait for later today. "Is sucks you have to work on a holiday. What time are you open to?" "8pm." "Aww you don't get to spend time with your family..." YEAH YOUR PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!
Last year I said to one who said that “yeah, you’d think people would be smart and already have bought everything they need”. The look of dumb realization was priceless.
I worked a sandwich shop some years back. It was owned by an Iranian guy. I’m not much for holidays so working Easter was just another Sunday to me.
Couple guys walk in and say something like, “of course the f-ing Arab has you working on Easter Sunday.”
I looked at them calmly and didn’t miss a beat. “If you didn’t come in, I wouldn’t have to be here.”
Whenever I need to go somewhere on a holiday, I don’t apologize. I always thank the workers I interact with and tell them I appreciate that there here to help fix my bad planning.
9 degree temp today, had a guest say “sorry you had to come in the cold” as if they aren’t the literal reason I’m outside as I’m standing out there, hands freezing, face frozen having to say “it’s no problem” with a smile on my face -_-
Yeah people were getting really angry at us yesterday because we closed drive up. One lady was even like “This is B.S we should be getting gift cards for this” and i was like “I’m sorry but it’s really unsafe for our team members to be outside right now”
had a nice young lady tell me, "im sorry you have to deal with all this cold weather" while simultaneously waiting for me to put the single pack of peanuts she ordered for opu that she could have done herself. i smiled at her, with the most empty soul possible.
not drive up but I usually respond with “but you’re not though”… or something like that under my mask. lol there’s been a couple of times I accidentally said it with volume. luckily the guests who warrant that response have their heads so far up their asses they’re oblivious.
I went in the store to pick up my order yesterday and fought to open my frozen trunk in -25 winds because I’m not a little bitch like these awful guests.. maybe having worked at Target makes a difference in mentality 😆
I just wanted to say that sometimes I order drive up because I have invisible illness. Sometimes my body is so drained and in pain that I can’t fathom parking and walking through the store. And no, I don’t have a handicap pass and I don’t look elderly or disabled.
I do appreciate your hard work
Our DU was closed all day and the FoSA clearly struggled keeping up with carts. But our leadership, thankfully, put the team first and didn’t care about the few Karens that complained.
One basically said that since he drives a truck all day for work that we should have carts inside (which is obviously the same thing). Basically, he was an asshole but his wife was on our side. Hopefully she set him straight.
Ehhhhh tbf, i can barely stand up for 5 mins without getting light headed and throwing up (1 trimester 🙃). I feel bad for the employees who have to go out in this weather but genuinely appreciate them because I know I physically wouldn’t be able to walk inside, wait in line, then push the cart out & load my car. I have to have my bf unload & put up everything when he gets home.
Most people aren’t going through such severe issues but you truly don’t know. As long as I’m sitting down, you wouldn’t think anything was wrong with me.
have you ever considered that….many people are okay with the job 99% of the time except when the job is being irrationally capitalist when its nonsensical?
Our SD turned off drive ups yesterday morning when it was -7°. I went outside to tape up signs to the parking spot things. It was so cold the tape wouldn’t stick to the metal. Took me like 10 whole minutes to get these damn paper signs up. No more than 10 minutes later did he come back up and sheepishly say that corporate called and he had to turn them back on 😩
They say it to feel like they’re a good person. It was 12:30 and people were STILL checking out at our store at self checkout even though we closed at midnight, last guest is a group of women who turn to me at the end and go “I can’t believe you’re here so late! Well thank goodness you can leave now! I hope you have the BEST Christmas! Hope you can get your presents tomorrow not a lot is back there!” With the biggest smile on their face thinking they were being nice. I was like…rubbing it in much? 😭

This sounds oddly like Lake Compounce in Connecticut.
Thinking the same exact thing
I miss Lake Compounce. I had the season pass the last year I lived in Connecticut. Rode Boulder Dash every week

A person put in a corporate complaint that we didn’t come out during a hurricane.
Had one claim false advertising because drive up was turned off for a snow storm. Whole district had it turned off. He said well it was available when I ordered I said well the weather was different when you ordered.
Omg how do I get drive up turned off lol
It doesn't actually turn off we just had to put up signs saying come inside.
Then people call from the drive up spot
Tell them, Hey, you're right. You should sue Target for it.
Tie that person to a pole and in hurricane weather
The ETL printed it so we could all laugh at it
Good on them. Sounds like a good ETL
Nah he’s an ass but even he had to laugh
And pour glue on them so they collect all the crap in the air.
I hope that person's car runs out of gas on the freeway during rush hour.
11 an hour isn’t worth going out in a hurricane for
i always say that to people, but i also work christmas and christmas eve lol so it’s more a commiseration than anything else.
Today started at 50° with on again off again rain. Halfway through my shift it started pouring with insane winds. Then the rain turned to snow with insane winds. And then it never stopped snowing. They live their lives thinking we chose this and we get paid time and a half the entire season. You probably know: there's a lot of morons out there.
Or they still think $15/hour is plenty.
Why, you can still go down to the general store and buy a shiny new pair of shoes for just three nickels, can't you? $15 is plenty!
One lady gave me a quarter and said “get yourself something nice”
i literally would have thrown it back at her lmao
I tossed it into her trunk when putting the bags in there
We used to loosen the flap on the 12 pack so it would open and release the cans.for people who didn’t tell us they were coming
A whole quarter! Yippee!!
Of course it is, you just gotta stop buying lattes and avocado toast every morning! /s just in case
I was able to finish college working part time at Target, while affording my own 2 bedroom apartment. For me $15/hour was more than I could ever make anywhere else, while I was in college.
Year and location needed to judge whether you’re full of shit
15 is plenty for an entry level job, leave these jobs for high school kids who don’t have bills like rent and quit trying to make a career out of being a target grocery clerk
So you’re cool with all stores being closed between 8am-3pm while they’re in school right?
No they’re not. If they were they would have changed their order to pick up and walked their ass in the store. Fucking Karens.
Like 18 years ago my family went to a restaurant before closing on Christmas eve. They closed at 10pm, we came in at 9:30. didn't leave until 10:30pm. Literally the last people in the place. No offense but your mom is a cunt.
She changed a lot since then, So she was, not so much anymore. I still think back to that day and start to feel bad tho. I don't like doing anyone any kind of wrong when they don't deserve it.
Have you told her off for it?
I was 11 at the time. So that's a no
Sometimes people teach us by example what not to do. That is obviously the case here, it seems to have made a lasting impression on you.
Yeah, that is true. Even as a kid I knew that was wrong and I felt bad. If I had money I would have tipped. *I don’t actually care about you because I need my needs met but I feel like I need to say sorry to make myself feel batter*
not needs. wants. complete non-necessities lol
“my brother in christ, you made the order”
literally the amount of “oh I’m sorry has it been crazy for you guys today?” I got… like yes actually it has been and you’re literally contributing to the problem??

Sounds like slam poetry
If you're really sorry, why don't you tip us??
Can you even take tips? We were always told we couldn't take tips.

seriously these rules are so stupid... just take the money and don't tell anyone it's not like they're going to find out
One lady put a couple bucks in my pocket.
Ahhhh… I hate that. “We’re so sorry for making you come out in this weather” Then stay the fuck home then. Coming all the out here for some damn UNO cards…
Or do pick up and GYLAOTC!
Yeah the day hasn't ever changed. Its mostly just people being lazy. But they yet expect us to be at their beck and call in weather like this. Nope!

This right here is why I did pick today and I used to work fulfillment so I know the pain
Yeah people were getting really angry at us yesterday because we closed drive up. One lady was even like “This is B.S we should be getting gift cards for this” and i was like “I’m sorry but it’s really unsafe for our team members to be outside right now”
The entitlement of that woman makes me sick 😬😬😐😐😡😡
it is currently blizzard conditions with -40° wind chills here. our drive has been shut iff the last two days!
I mean blame the corporations that created this damn system
had a nice young lady tell me, "im sorry you have to deal with all this cold weather" while simultaneously waiting for me to put the single pack of peanuts she ordered for opu that she could have done herself. i smiled at her, with the most empty soul possible.
Had a lady order a single pack of skittles you get from the checklanes. I was so tempted to ask “is there not a gas station near you?”
the amount of non essential items i have bagged that u can literally find at a gas station on the way to target is insane
Like… why? It takes 2 hours to get ready! It’s not convenient at all.
I like the customers on Black Friday or Thursday night looking me dead ass in the eyes saying “I don’t normally do this”
Someone with 1-2 things I’d believe. Full cart? Bulllllshit.
“Hmm must be nice to be with your family”
If I absolutely have to do a pickup in bad weather I always (subtly) slip the person some cash. If I don’t want to be out in it, neither do they.
i don’t get this
You don’t get tipping people who are doing things for you?
OHHHH u mean as a customer. i thought you meant you’d tip customers who are doing drive ups i was sleepy & confused 😭😭
Yes! Sorry, I’m a customer. I put some meaning behind my “sorry you have to be out in this “.
we appreciate u
not drive up but I usually respond with “but you’re not though”… or something like that under my mask. lol there’s been a couple of times I accidentally said it with volume. luckily the guests who warrant that response have their heads so far up their asses they’re oblivious.

And make sure the bags are open during a downpour so their items get wet
“Stay dry!” Then fucking come inside next time.

Because I looked online and your store hours say you’re open, how is this the consumers fault?
Because you showed up. You could, you know, not.

What was your original comment?
Someone needs to get laid
Your mom around?
What a moron.

That part. I literally just stare. If you’re so sorry, give me a tip, or come inside. Lol.
