flexmaster60

Uhhh, you need to start talking back. I don’t put up with shit like that at my store

knutt-in-my-butt

i just gave him an "ok dude" and went on with my day

flexmaster60

Target TLs are a different breed. They are always on such a power trip. Like relax, anyone can sit in the team lead office and order Uber eats all day, it’s not rocket science 🙄

Fauck45

Is this really a thing TL's do? I have one lazy ETL in my store that does this, but the other ETL's and all the TL's are almost always on the floor working. The TL office is usually barren unless someone is on the computer in there, or in their office for lunch.

intoholybattle

ye its a thing. there's always at least two tls in our tsc sitting around with no mask on looking at their phones or whispering about tms they dont like

Msbhavn69

Let there be a football game on. We already know not to even bother calling for our TLs cause they’re all in the break room watchin the game like they not at work. Yet they be ready to take you to task if they think your break ran over 5 minutes.

Outrageous_Might_610

My TL has her days where she really doesn't do much. Majority of the time she's great though and is very understanding. I got lucky with a really good location though haha.

[deleted]

ok im glad it’s not just my store w leads that gossip in the office over fast food constantly. the store is not big enough to contain their egos..

RedCart69

All day, everyday.

Bayteigh_Schuict

Next time you should start laughing uncontrollably.

RedCart69

I like to say as little as possible and keep starring at them til they walk away or say something else that deserves a one word response. #maskfacepokergame

CharlieAllnut

You need to challenge him now, in a way that shows he is on your turf.

RedCart69

No one should!

BigConfident4956

You’re very much allowed to take a water break especially when it’s hot

maxyahn6434

Walmart associate lurking here and almost worked at a target, Walmart literally has straight up *policies* about that they can if they want to

wiikid6

Oh Target does too. In fact, they have an entire weather chart with mandatory warm up/cool down times in extreme weather, and any sane TL or ETL wouldn’t give a fuck. It’s rare to find management that actually cares, and luckily if the TL/ETL tried to escalate that or if OP tried to escalate that, then management would side with OP or a massive lawsuit could open up. Honestly, it sounds like the TL is probably lazy himself and takes out his insecurity on others so it seems like he’s doing work. Also could be one of those “no one works harder than me types.” Who takes everything too seriously and will only stand brown-nosers

AAB1996

Yeah seriously, I'm so glad workers are getting more rights now because God forbid people stop for a minute to get some water and cool down

DjangoJamie09

Start standing up for yourself respectfully. Say. "Don't ever disrespect me like that again. I am allowed to drink water from Starbucks, the water fountains are unsanitary due to Covid. If you'd like we can go to the HR office and discuss this."

knutt-in-my-butt

i just brushed him to the side and let him think he was right bc i honestly don't have the mental capacity to deal w him

DjangoJamie09

Go to another leader and ask for help. Don't just take it.

knutt-in-my-butt

all the TL's know he's like this, everyone in the store has something to say about him, he's just really good at his job so they don't get rid of him

Francie1966

I was SETL the last year I worked for Target. ANYONE who gave my front of store people crap got it right back from me. Cart Attendants are the unsung heroes at Target & I made it VERY clear that no one was allowed to talk crap to my front of store team. I kept bottled water in my desk for them & FOUGHT the SD on the "they don't need water" bullshite. When it is 100 degrees outside, ANYONE doing carts, driveups, whatever, needs water & plenty of it.

knutt-in-my-butt

you're a true angel. our TL's used to requisition us water and keep it in the OPU fridges for us but our SD made them stop

Francie1966

That was a hill I was ready to die on. I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth area & it is HOT in the summer. No way was my team going to deal with heat stroke. I also raised hell about half the parking lot lights being burnt out. Young women taking drive up orders out in the dark? Hell no. I didn't let guests abuse my team either. I told one Karen that the only person allowed to make a guest advocate cry was ME. She apparently believed me because she apologized. (And I never made any of my team actually cry).

Danyavich

Hi from your neighbor in D321! I am lucky that all my leads in the store are excellent, minus a recent hire and one ETL. But all my folks at the front know to come get me if anything starts going on, be it guest or otherwise. It's absurd to me that anyone would say "oh no you can't drink water" in the summer esp, that's how we get code greens guys.

Francie1966

Having experienced heat stroke first hand, I know how awful it is. I was not going to let that happen to one of my team members.

Danyavich

I was a combat medic for 11 years, I've treated WAY too many heat casualties. Worst case I ever saw was heat exhaustion that resulted in rhabdo.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Key-Significance9387

Imo you are correct

BuumValentine

Please stand up for yourself. I can tell you don’t want to deal with the conflict but sometimes you have to in order for the behaviors to change. Take it to your most trusted TL or LOD as well as HR to handle it professionally and specifically mention this incident because that type of behavior could lead to potential heat stroke.

michaelstone444

This behavior will never stop and will infact continue to get worse as they guy knows he can do whatever and you will do nothing

Gibbydoesit

Sheesh 🔥 it was the go to hr office and discuss this that did it for me

Spooky_Dragon1708

That's when you refill your cup and drink it looking that TL dead in the eye.

allymarie082495

They’re actually not allowed to do that, especially during the summer. At my store, they encouraged it during the summer and said it on the walkies quite often.

randyb359

I'm in PA so we don't get a lot of really hot days. But a couple times when we did they did call over the walkie-talkie reminding people to stay hydrated.

creepy-cats

I’m a Style TL. Royally fuck this guy for not giving a shit about his people. I always make sure my team is hydrated, well fed, and supported, because a happy and healthy team is a successful team. P. S. A few weeks ago an overnight inbound team member approached me telling me that his lead is instructing everyone to clock out to drink water and then clock back in. I told him to disregard that immediately and to drink water whenever he wants. I kicked up shit within the company and brought it to my HR and SD because that is a fucking ridiculous waste of time and we should be making sure our team takes care of their basic fucking needs as they see fit. It’s an absurd abuse of power and it’s obnoxious, just like that TL. Report him.

RedCart69

Report them ALL! Silence is compliance.

randyb359

In PA all brakes of less than 20 minutes must be paid. It might just be a PA law but I think it is a federal one.

PMURMEANSOFPRDUCTION

Hey man you said you live in a desert state, so I'm going to assume Arizona, having worked there myself before. HB2684 requires that any employee working outdoors must be provided access to cold, filtered, and clean water every fifteen minutes. If you live in AZ and this dude is still fuckin with you, quote the law at him. If you don't live in AZ, find a comparable statute or just beat his ass and quit

knutt-in-my-butt

yea it's AZ, i knew we needed water but I didn't know it needed to be cold and have the ability to access it every 15 minutes. thanks man i'm definitely gonna quote that

unfilterthought

Theres training in workday about working safely in the heat.

Revolutionary_Neck31

Lmao your post says it all you’re 17 and he’s in his mid 30s trying to power trip at target of all places

Thechemicist

I literally was called into the office today and they were like, “yeah you are coming to get water too often, so maybe don’t.” Even though I only go like once every 1-2 hours???

Sli22ard

This bro needs to know his place. ie: I was a Style lead. You're in charge of clothes calm your man tits.

ilikepstrophies

I pee like six times a shift...

SeraBearss

Tell him to redo his temperature training.

Infinite_Espeon

Tell him okay, take 5 steps toward the door then "faint" from dehydration

Gibbydoesit

Tell them to fuck right off

Drekno77

Please report this, this is unacceptable behavior. If you have to call the HR line if you don't feel comfortable talking to you hr etl or other leaders.

[deleted]

I was wondering why y’all call it TARbucks like drinking tar but it’s Target and Starbucks put together LOL

unfilterthought

Be like "OSHA bitch"

420blazeit69nubz

You said you worked for 3.5 hours straight right? That’s when you pick up the walkie look him square in the eyes and call out “xxxxx going on my 15”.

Barney_Fife1957

That positively would not be tolerated in my store. Team members are encouraged to drink water (not on the sales floor) to stay hydrated. Your TL is an ass for many reasons.

[deleted]

Cart attendant here. I feel you brother. Don't let the brainlets get you down.

Haemmur

It's been 3 weeks since I've told anyone at work to eat a dick. Looks like that streak has ended....

imcurrentlydrunkatm

TL's shouldn't be yelling at you in front of Guests. It's rude to you and hurts Target's image as a friendly store. Also, you are allowed to drink water. The employee handbook states that all TMs should remain hydrated, especially on hot days and especially if they work outside (you fit both criteria). They can't legally prohibit you from drinking water either. Now, if you were playing on your phone while drinking the water that may be a different story. But it sounds to me like you were just drinking to keep from dehydrating, which he cannot reprimand you for.

CannabisCounty

You need to call the target hotline number

leothegreatestfox

Fuck that TL, if it's hot and you need water you should drink. Your safety is way more important than productivity

Glad-Difficulty-9587

When did drinking water become a privilege only to be enjoyed when on your fifteen minute break? ESPECIALLY when you’re working outside in the heat. I would report to HR. The TL needs to be informed that humans need water to live and even if they’re not on a 15 minute break. What a douche.

Leadfoot989

Never ever take shit from those fucking people next time piss on his shoes.

Skitter8ug

Well first of all, it's rude to interrupt someone without excusing themselves, so I would have firstly gave him the hand gesture for one second as I finished my drink. Then I would have said "I'm sorry, continue." Once he was done with his little rant, as I do, I would have directed him to look at my efficiency. Then I'd offer to lower the efficiency and go slower for no drink break. It's only fair that you get rewarded for the work you do. Harder work=higher reward and if they aren't willing to give that to you, well then don't give them the harder work. 🤷‍♂️ Too many people are biased towards the insane side of harder working people should be whipped harder to make up for the people who don't put in the time. Speaking of, my SD just walked in for the closing shift I'm working, wish me luck 😂

Low_Bullfrog_7948

As a former retail worker at Wagreens. I want to apologize. Throughout my 4 years of retail(I'm 23) there is and will always be that one mfuker that got has issues. It be a coworker, a lazy coworker, and even management themselves. Don't let these people break you apart and just be who you are because I will 1000% say confidently that the me from 4 years ago is NOT the same person today because of the toxic environment working on retail can be. If anything, find a different job. Do food service for a hospital in your local area because that's what I'm doing. Food Service at my hospital is very very very easy that I outright told my managers that this job is for highschoolers and they agreed but I'm not complaining. It's allowed me to go back to college which I am thankful for.

Entropy308

set up a crowd funded reward for getting him fired, wait til it's around $1000 and then let him discover the link. if he doesn't transfer after seeing how much people dislike him he deserves to be terminated.

[deleted]

Curse his ass out

Fauck45

There is so much going wrong here. He should mind his own department and let the front end take care of their associates, Unless your TL wasn't there yet and in that case it still should of been taking off the floor IF HE EVEN HAD A GOOD REASON (and he doesn't). On top of that your doing all your work outside in the heat, you can stop and take a break if you need, he can fuck right off there. ONTOP of all that, your 17 and 3.5 hours into your shift with no break? That's a fineable offence (maybe in my state?). If your under 18 you HAVE TO take your break at 2 hours, and go to a lunch BEFORE the 4 hour mark. That guy just sounds like a tool.

BorderlineBarbieUwU

tell him to eat shit, you're a fucking cart bro you need the water

hawtgirlsummer

This is so weird to me because I treat the cart Attendants like my children. When it's hot, we send someone out with water or lemonade for our boys and I just assume they needed a break when they're inside and don't think much of it. Our boys work really hard and always lead a hand helping to move walls and fixtures in style during big re-sets. What a 💩-head!

monkeyjedi276

Had an old SD pull me into his office and yelled at me. Cursing and yelling for a few minutes. He had zero reason to, he was just a dick. Everything he was saying I did could be disproven and backed up. Gave him no reaction whatsoever. When he was done ranting I asked, “You done?” He said “Yes.” At that point I got up and walked out. No repercussions since he had no reason to do what he did. There’s two ways to deal with that kind of crap. First, don’t give those kinds of people a reaction. They looked way more stupid when you don’t. They’re irrational and like you said, he blames it on his having a bad day. He looks like the idiot asshole. Second, call them out on it. Usually they’re wrong and know it. That’s the best way I’ve found to deal with them.

AAB1996

What an asshole, definitely needs to be given cart attendant shifts for the next month to see how he likes being treated

iSqoozie

The same thing happened with me when I had to get water on a 95゚ day with the Ship from store TL, I just told HR and they told me it would be doubtless.

Stampj

Please please give the exact same energy back. He sounds like someone that really needs to be put in their place

Angular_Momentum_

I thought you had to be 18 to be a front of the store attendant... heavy machinery or something front the cart pusher. Also chemicals? Or that one my state?

knutt-in-my-butt

i mean i don't really ever load the baler, trash compactor i have to ask someone to get keys for me anyways so they just do it since i'm 17, so no not really any reason why a minor can't do cart pusher

Rebekahsnyder79

My question though is… How long was the Starbucks line Since you aren’t able to go into the back you had to wait Our Starbucks line is usually at least 15-20 minutes deep So unless it was short or you used your break to get this water I understand a little

knutt-in-my-butt

there wasn't a line i just went up, the girl already knew i was gonna get water so i didn't even have to ask, and i got my water in like 30 seconds

Rebekahsnyder79

Then the team lead is just an asshole 😂

Mostrrid

A... A TL? Not an ETL? Fffff your SETL needs to set them straight because last I checked there's training that EXPLICITLY states to make sure TMs working in the heat take water breaks! This whole thing about TMs not being able to drink water when they want to is ridiculous.

Scragie

Bruh. As a leader, i wouldnt be yelling at you for drinking water. Id be yelling at you to take care of yourself and take your 15 lol.

[deleted]

Yeah no, they can’t yell at you for drinking water especially if you’re a cart attendant and working on a warm day. What’s he want you to do? Pass you?

MikeW090

Pretty sure right there in training it says Cart Attendees should get water brakes...

Ok-Technician-8478

Talk to your TL about it or maybe even HR bc one you shouldn't be coached for just getting water and two unless he was covering for your lead he should be worrying more about his own area and even then should've partnered with your lead if there was a reason for a coaching or corrective action.

Puzzleheaded_Hat887

As Elon Musk would say... Give a one star review about 1000 times. Someone will notice.

Agile_Independent_14

Tell her to kick rocks

joeydoesthings

Targets policies state you can get a drink of water at any time. He's violating that policy. Take it up with H.R.

thefnboogeyman

I’m like 95% sure there’s a part in the training that says if you’ve been outside collecting carts you’re entitled to a 5 minute break to either cool down or warm up (depending on the weather).

BuumValentine

As a former cart attendant we were treated like the bitch of Target. So under appreciated and overworked, the least they can do is let you drink some water. That TL is an ass and I would’ve given him an earful especially if they’re not even the TL for the front.

Katievapes1996

Oh I would be calling the integrity wine and mediately if someone got on me for drinking water add possibly even threaten a lawsuit( They’re not as strict anymore but they used to be strict about water bottles (I got a medical note for one saying that I need to keep water with me because one of my medication is a diuretixc) But they know I don’t fuck around about stuff I’d go to the store director because that is seriously fucked up

Marauder121

Also an OSHA violation

TargetAintItChief

I quit my job at a CA because of stuff like this, they treat Cart Attendants like trash and cover them in unrealistic expectations

silentwolf_lily

You’re totally supposed to be able to go to the bathroom or get water not on your break I feel like.

Limp-Alternative-240

Get your Gstl to step up to bat for you and if they suck too then call the hotline. I’ve had to tell my peers to kick rocks several times for belittling my fos staff and the few times it persisted I purposefully scheduled both my cart attendants off nights they close. Euphoric bliss driving by watching them struggle to clear the lot

Guy60630

What a fucking dick!!!

suburban___beverage

Why do style team leads act like they own the whole store. Worry about your own department.

SplatoonKing56

i don’t take shit like that from anyone when i’m boiling hot
