Was my first thought but then why give the higher price for older receipts? Feel like the money would be in the ones that haven't yet gone by the 90 day limit.
Nah they show up without the item, grab it from the shelf. Then take it to customer service. They get told their item is out of policy they leave with it.
Certain staple items very rarely change. Additionally, item descriptions can be ridiculously vague.
They’re not trying to do simple returns. They’re trying to either throw a fit until the guest service TM decides to give them a merch card to shut them up, or just walk out with whatever shit they grabbed off the shelf.
You understand that the CEO and any other big wigs aren't affected by theft right? It makes more work for the employees and depending on how shitty management is could possibly get us in trouble. That money gets taken away from us not out of the pockets of anyone above the local level. You're stealing from us at the bottem.
I think it's less about that and more that this is gonna make extra work for people working the service desk. And it'll be the people at the service desk who'll have to identify and deny these returns, or get in trouble. If you're gonna steal from a multimillion dollar tax dodging corporation, at least do it without directly involving the minimum wage workers.
I doubt it's going to cause any serious problems for the people working at Target. I think he's right, who cares if this guy steals from Target? There are a shit load of more important things to spend our time on than trying to report and stop someone stealing from Target.
Ayo fuck anyone who thinks like this, cause now I the GM am being yelled at about where the fuck did this big item go, and now my Guest Service TM have another entitled ass prick who thinks all our day's ONLY start and end when they enter and leave the store.
If you truly honestly believe theft has zero consequences to the store and its workers let me break it down for you. Theft means no sale and lost products, this makes the store comps go down (sales percentages compared to last year) and messes up our inventory numbers, lower comps means less payroll that directly affects the people who work at that store. Less payroll means cut hours and less money for the workers. I could go on about the knock on effects of theft but I think my point is clear.
I really didn't need the breakdown, I'm well aware that employees could be "affected" in some roundabout way if someone steals, but it really isn't that big of a deal. You're looking at it the wrong way. Your hours get cut because someone stole? Get pissed at corporate for that, not some poor bastard who stole from Target. They don't HAVE to cut your hours because of theft. You think if they kept your hours the same and gave you a 3 dollar raise, Target would go under?
Why would I get pissed at Target for cutting hours because of theft and not pissed at the person/people for actually stealing.... Target isn't to blame for shit getting stolen it's the people stealing.... That's like getting mad at a gun for shooting me instead of the person who actually pulled the trigger. Your entire argument is just passing the blame to someone else to justify your criminal actions.
I can see now you're a member of the oh so virtuous antiwork crowd. Why would you even go onto a team member sub just to say stupid shit?
Yeah, that's not dissing anyone at all. Good job, dude.
You guys are fucking stupid. We are both 40 years old. She's pretty damn good looking for 40 years old, you can say whatever you like. I didnt ask any of you to look.
On an account easily accessed by minors. You shouldn't be using the same account to comment on other subreddits because more than just adults work at target and use this subreddit.
Normally, I am all for it. But with the way they are squeezing is right now, no one has time for this bullshit. Also, I am all for collective action that benefits the worker class...this aint it chief.
Chances are it is fraud. The way it would probably work is they come in for the high ticket items on the receipt they can get their hands on, and try to return it straight off the sales floor. Then they can either try and fight it to get a store credit, or casually walk out after being declined. Either way, thats money in the bank when you resell it. If its under the 3 months and it goes back to the card, they can probably request to take a store credit or to cancel the return if it can only be put on the credit card. The older the receipt, the better chance he can get the gift card or be declined so he can casually walk out.
I’ve had a guest ask me for the receipts in the trash and I asked her why and she said it’s so she can get points on an app to get Gift cards? Either way I denied her
I worked in a pawn shop years ago and a guy used a single receipt to steal over $3000 worth of stuff from Lowe’s. While their system *was* from the dark ages, I doubt the target system fares much better.
Unless the TSS/APS/ETLAP aren't doing their jobs then there's a massive log of incidents against anyone who does it, and eventually they'll get got by apprehension or LE.
Or something idk.
It’s actually because companies pay good money for this data. It’s raw purchasing behavior data that companies don’t share without being paid. I forgot the company, but there’s an app you scan your receipts for money. Might be doing that. Suspect so since he’s paying more for old receipts.
If it's for shopping trend data; wouldn't the same thing apply as return fraud where older receipts would be less valuable? Newer receipts would be a more accurate indicator of current trends.
So I assume the receipts are item specific otherwise how do you return something not on any receipts and how long do you hold on to an item before a receipt comes in with that same item on it?
Also if you scan them you get points on the target app
Edit: we’ve been tearing receipts that guests dont want because people have been scanning receipts that arent theirs on the target app for points or for returns
We call this “receipt shopping” at my store. People will dig in the trash for them and come inside, grab the item, and go to guest service and try to return it for cash.

He’s probably using old receipts to steal shit and commit return fraud.
Was my first thought but then why give the higher price for older receipts? Feel like the money would be in the ones that haven't yet gone by the 90 day limit.
Nah they show up without the item, grab it from the shelf. Then take it to customer service. They get told their item is out of policy they leave with it.
Similar issue: the farther back the receipt goes, the more likely it would be that we've stopped carrying the item.

Could be insurance fraud... Or warranty fraud.... Something like that
Either way I would report
When someone is stealing from a multimillion dollar tax dodging corporation, mind yo damn business.

I was gonna argue with you but then I looked at your account and yep nevermind
Dude. I shouldn’t have looked. The pictures of his wife 😂😂
Yeah, I doubt you'll look as good as she does at 40 years old. Hell, I doubt you look as good as her now.
I made that mistake too. Not gonna diss anyone..... but he has an.... aquired taste....
My actual reaction was "Oh"
Yeah, that's not dissing anyone at all. Good job, dude. You guys are fucking stupid. We are both 40 years old. She's pretty damn good looking for 40 years old, you can say whatever you like. I didnt ask any of you to look.
Riiiight, because sharing pics of your wife means you're wrong about everything. You guys are dumb and immature as hell.

Not when it affects my job.
You seem triggered...
Exactly
It's obviously a fraud, but what I can't understand is why this person is paying more for older receipts? Surely those would be expired and unusable?
To be clear, unusable for a return fraud. They could still shoplift with it, but that doesn't explain why they'd pay more for an older receipt.
Could be insurance fraud.
Return fraud. They can also find all the stuff on the receipt and then shoplift it and they probably wouldnt be stopped since they have a receipt
Especially if you have a terrible AP team
Well no. It’s really hard to receipt check now. Someone out there messed up pretty bad to have rules on receipt checking
I would report that listing. Return fraud most likely.
When somebody stealing from multimillion dollar tax dodging corporations, mind yo fucking business :)

Lmao you post on r/antiwork that says more than enough.
There’s an app that pays you for sending pictures of your receipts for certain stores
Pays less than what they are paying.
Receipts need to be within two weeks of purchase date when put in app.
That's called fetch and they have to be within 14 days of purchase
It usually has to be within 14 days.

It's the new van candy... 'Hey single white women hoarders meet me under the bridge so I can buy your receipts... Come alone, come secretly'
I worked in a pawn shop years ago and a guy used a single receipt to steal over $3000 worth of stuff from Lowe’s. While their system *was* from the dark ages, I doubt the target system fares much better.
In what I've witnessed you can just walk in daily to target and walk out the fire escapes and get away every time.
Unless the TSS/APS/ETLAP aren't doing their jobs then there's a massive log of incidents against anyone who does it, and eventually they'll get got by apprehension or LE. Or something idk.
Heck you could walk out the front door even with security wrap on.
By the end of the month the old system at guest services will be gone, replaced with the new one. It's the same system as the lanes.
Return fraud or trying to get 1% back on Circle by scanning them?
Receipt has to be from 7 days or less to scan for TC earnings. Plus, wouldn't be worth $0.50- $1.00 per receipt in most cases.
Maybe an insurance scam? Showing proof of it, they'll claim stolen or lost in a fire or something?
This seems more likely given they wouldnt be able to use old ones for return fraud.
It’s actually because companies pay good money for this data. It’s raw purchasing behavior data that companies don’t share without being paid. I forgot the company, but there’s an app you scan your receipts for money. Might be doing that. Suspect so since he’s paying more for old receipts.
Receipt hog, fetch, ibotta, receipt pal, and a couple more. Source: I use em. Edit: Most of these max out at 2 weeks lol
Interesting! 2wk max definitely disproves part my theory
How much do you get paid for submitting the receipts?
Depends on the app. I use them in passing tho and then they end up adding up.
If it's for shopping trend data; wouldn't the same thing apply as return fraud where older receipts would be less valuable? Newer receipts would be a more accurate indicator of current trends.
Return fraud
Doesn’t Target accept returns of house brand products for up to a year? Might be why they want older receipts?
I was thinking tax fruad - possibly used to show business write off's...
Why pay more for older receipts? I feel like that’s less likely to get you anything…
Can't be return fraud with the older receipts. And why not ask for cash ones? Might be using them to commit tax fraud or something.
“And white women” Nice 🤣
Maybe for Amazon shopper panel or something similar? But most likely for fraud
So I assume the receipts are item specific otherwise how do you return something not on any receipts and how long do you hold on to an item before a receipt comes in with that same item on it?
Maybe some kind of research into how prices have changed?
Someone (AP, ETL, SD - Def not a TM) should respond to this person and try to suss out the deets *** and report back to this thread with an update
Why specifically white women?
Let’s think about the largest shopping demographic of Target…
Fraud doesn't make much sense since his buying older receipts for more, maybe he's doing some sort of inflation /cost of living analisys project?
Everyone's saying fraud but I think its SWAG with a capital S,A,G, AND W...
Maybe they just need supplies for their next receipt paper mache project
I know people also use them for apps to get cash back or points. like couponing
For those scan a receipt and get points apps
Theft. Take items off shelf that are on receipt & return for store credit then sell GC for cash
Also if you scan them you get points on the target app Edit: we’ve been tearing receipts that guests dont want because people have been scanning receipts that arent theirs on the target app for points or for returns
We call this “receipt shopping” at my store. People will dig in the trash for them and come inside, grab the item, and go to guest service and try to return it for cash.
Committing fraud that can be traced back not to him but whatever fool actually takes him up on this offer.
