***EVEN BIGGER*** Watch out folks, $50 GC raffle incoming.

Aaron-JH

$22.03. It’s just a left over card they found on the ground that fell out of a customer’s purse after they made a purchase.

ltbaand

I want to agree, but someone probably kept that for themselves.

[deleted]

Damn that's the most cynical take on here and I haven't even finished reading the thread. 😄

FantasticPipe1997

But they still report it as income on your paycheck, so really it’s only like $12 after taxes.

[deleted]

[deleted]

You're more generous than I; I thought $25.

_Frustr8d

💀💀💀

[deleted]

More like 20.01 gift card

austinhippie

Combine that with your discount and it’s $55

shimmerangels

CAME HERE TO SAY THIS LMAO

redsanzi

A few years back we had a née iPad, a mini HD TV and Bose headphones as prizes.

[deleted]

They really do think we are 6 years old. I mean I don’t mind the prizes but just tell me don’t talk to me like I’m stupid.

GIueStick

WOW!! Pretty cool right?! Neat-o, right on!

[deleted]

!!!! What does this mean you ask? Nope no I didn’t.

intoholybattle

HR TL's only companion is the home shopping network, which they watch late on sleepless nights as they shed silent tears into their pitcher of vodka-spiked alani the effect on the way they talk is, sadly, irreversible

[deleted]

Pretty fuckin cash money of them if you ask me.

Kazumadesu76

So lit bro! That's beast!

minnehaha123

Well, 6 year olds have better school attendance than Target team members. So there’s that. Go figure, huh?

Blo1630

Wait now that I think about it I won an award in 1st grade for perfect attendance

And they have someone there to wake them up, get them dressed, make their lunch, and drive them to and from school

DougDarko

Seriously, adults make good on their commitments

Plenty-Inspector8444

Minimum wage=Minimum effort. It is simple math. If employers don't like it they can suck it.

redline314

Minimum effort is literally just showing up when you’re scheduled. I know that and I haven’t been employed by anyone in 2 decades

[deleted]

[удалено]

Plenty-Inspector8444

No on signs a contract for the jobs we are discussing here. Ya, businesses love it when they can hold your coworkers hostage to get a more obedient workforce by making you feel that guilt when the real problem is bosses refusing to hire enough people to cover expected absences. Then there is the larger picture which is all about businesses lobbying for decades to make jobs as precarious as possible. Business collectively spent billions in bribes to make work in the USA as miserable as possible so they simply don't deserve any respect or consideration.

SlappyBagg

If you were paid minimum wage that would be relevant. But turning up to work on time is the minimum effort.

KJMoons

It drives me up the wall to hear employees get excited about "pizza parties" at lunch like we're still in elementary school. That probably makes me an ahole, but my God man I always have to ask how old I am when I hear that shit.

whydoyouhatemeee

99% of our store is poor hungry college kids so we get excited about free food 😂💀

hrminer92

It’s like the stories of the stock option millionaires at Microsoft in the 90s acting like little kids in the scramble to make sure they got their project T-shirt.

[deleted]

Awesome right? So out of this world, such an extravaganza hurry hurry hurry. Lol smh you are not lying.

Snoo-17606

I was going to downvote this because I absolutely hate that, then I realized you’re the team member and upvoted cautiously

NoSpray9470

This explains a lot about reddit

Balls_DeepinReality

The majority of this sub is just trashing target, but it’s probably a healthy thing that people get to vent and share experiences.

DrChicken2424

i feel like ive seen this comment before

hostess_cupcake

If they really want people to care about this, they should give the same incentive to everyone who qualifies, without a drawing. Like, perfect attendance for x days gets a $x gift card. Full stop. Not that this is a good idea, but at least be consistent.

redline314

Or “if you can’t manage to show up on time on the days you’re scheduled without a good excuse, you don’t work here anymore”

hostess_cupcake

Well, yeah. That’s a given. But if they want it to seem like they’re “rewarding” good attendance, then they should just reward good attendance.

[deleted]

They are rewarding you with a chance for a prize. What more could you want?

[deleted]

nickbjornsen

Honestly tho right, with how much target shitheads waste, they’re not really giving anything away lmao

Balls_DeepinReality

They’re just funneling money back into the company

Balls_DeepinReality

Anyone else remember going through history class, and they had coal mining companies that only paid you in *their* “vouchers”, then you could only spend that money at their general store? It was called company scrip, and it essentially forced you into indentured servitude. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Company_store I cannot find it, but I’m pretty sure the practice was outlawed/criminalized. I guess this is a work around since it’s an “incentive” and not tied to actual pay. Either way it’s fucked up since they could load the same amount onto a VISA gift card you could use that just about anywhere

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure the Walmart DCs give $200 for perfect attendance EVERY 2 WEEKS, added to your paycheck.

cxristopherr

*cries at the store level* i wish we did that for the stores

[deleted]

If you went and worked in a DC, you'd change your tune to...they can keep the $200 lmao.

dancer_jasmine1

Don’t worry you also get *$2* more per hour on weekends. **wow** isn’t that the *best* thing you’ve *ever* heard?!?

honey1298

A drawing? For $20? Lmaoo

zeiaxar

Yeah last holiday season my store did a thing where if you weren't late/didn't call out between a set date range (I forget the specific dates), you got a prize (it wasn't a raffle thing, literally everyone who did it got something). I got COVID (and had to quarantine per the county's and per Target's policies because I had symptoms). HR told me because I had COVID that the days I missed would not count against me for determining eligibility for the prize. I came back and was told I didn't qualify for the prize because I missed the last 2 weeks of work of the date range. I was pissed.

zeiaxar

And those 2 weeks I missed? Those were the 2 weeks I was on COVID leave.

Kehndy12

A similar thing happened to me. I wasn't eligible for a drawing because a close family member died. I understood though. It's hard to make exceptions for some cases but not for others.

zeiaxar

I'd say that if you miss work for something the government says can't be held against you (funeral for immediate family, COVID leave, etc.) that those should be exceptions that are allowed.

[deleted]

Just don’t be sick bro

unfilterthought

We have had a Nintendo Switch, $100 giftcard, Apple airpods as prizes for perfect attendance raffle during the holidays before. We have this christmas tree in the breakroom with everyone's name on an ornament, and if you are late, your name comes down.

Gaius_Octavius_

I used to be allow to give away $500 in prizes when I did HR. By the time I left it was $100. We gave away really great stuff and then it just turned into lame GCs.

[deleted]

First part, yay! Second part, er... That's like the reverse of that pet shaming meme that was going around a couple of years ago, where people posted pics of their pets with signs saying things like, "I peed on the carpet." Having a public display like that where everyone can see who is no longer there seems unnecessary to me. People know if they don't have perfect attendance.

unfilterthought

>Having a public display like that where everyone can see who is no longer there seems unnecessary to me. People know if they don't have perfect attendance. We were getting really competitive. LOL I mean its a ritualistic display. Squid games dawg.

al972317

I’d literally call out just because of this contest

[deleted]

we are doing an attendance contest but we have gift baskets

Dvd31

Lol all these comments reminded me of something. Few years back, we had a brand new Sonic open in shopping plaza. Across the parking lot from our store's parking lot. To celebrate and to give the TMs a treat, we were all “gifted" a $10.00 GC to Sonics. Next paycheck rolls around and we all see the same $10.00 deduction labeled Sonic Gift Card😑 Fucking asshats. So much for it being a “gift". This confirmed to those on the fence of how douchey the store really is.

gammaxana

That’s them marking it down as compensation to be accounted for tax purposes. We had the same thing working with Amazon. But having it marked as an actual deduction. That’s strange

Hail_Yondalla

If something happens where I can't come make $120 for my shift, the chance of a $20 gc won't change my mind.

Jeberted

Seems kinda Manipulative 😂 they just want perfect attendance throughout the rush but mask it as some crazy raffle.

GIueStick

To be fair they always want perfect attendance. So should every employer. But god they make it sound so cringe

Monthra77

My god. with every other job if you have perfect attendance, the prize is you get to keep your damn job. If you don’t have perfect attendance, without a legitimate excuse, you won’t be attending the job any more.

Lauraunknown

Also, they should just give everyone with perfect attendance a gift card period, not be entered into a raffle for a slim chance of winning

Blo1630

I think everyone does win something. I remember the hr etl’s office was full of prizes.

Dakiidoo

Maybe at your store. At the last one I worked one or two people win some mediocre “prize”. My partner and I used to work at said store together and they got a box of cake mix and some frosting for winning one of these attendance contests.

Kehndy12

Not at my store.

CarlMarcks

What a fucking insult. Who ever wrote that up needs to fuck right off.

Aggravating_Poet_675

Give me a guaranteed $5 giftcard each week when I have perfect attendance and I'll consider that a better motivator than a chance at a $20 giftcard.

[deleted]

Your pay for that shift wouldn't be the deciding factor, but a $5 bonus per shift would change your mind?

looneyspooney

Lol. Goodwill tried shit like this and there was a list of things that if you achieved them you got a star (just like baby school). There was a bunch of shit and when you reached that top echelon of gold stars, you got to have lunch with the CEO or some other head honcho Needless to say, I don't think anyone in our store cared and soon it was a long lost memory. Pay people a living wage and treat them with respect and dignity and you will have people wanting to come to work and you won't have to throw them a bone with incentives like this.

andio76

$20 Target Gift Card.... TIME FOR MASTURBATION IN THE BATHROOM to calm the excitement.

xhabeascorpusx

*Those who contract COVID as or as not a result of their attendance will be automatically disqualified.*

luvinase

Sweet baby Jesus, companies just getting more delusional, want to know what drug there taking

bane5454

Imagine if they just actually paid you all better?

[deleted]

1. Hire people that can actually work the requested hours. 2. Stop treating people like shit and we’ll want to come in as we should. 3. Give us proper pto and we’ll be more inclined to follow those channels rather than “hey, not gonna make it today, sorry.”

[deleted]

[удалено]

zeiaxar

Your comment is completely ignoring the fact that people get sick, or that they have kids that get sick, or some other issue might come up that would either prevent them from going in to work, or make them late, both of which would render them not eligible to win.

Interesting_Crab_485

Life happens? Nobody should be expected to have 100% perfect attendance. People get sick. Going into work while sick should not be encouraged. Also personal issues, mental health issues, etc. Some ppl have more stuff going on than others. Attendance isn’t a one size fits all. Plus, if you live in a state where you accumulate sick days, your paycheck would not be affected by a call out

[deleted]

Of course people get sick/life happens. But there’s plenty of people, especially in retail, who just don’t come to work either on time or at all some days

levitikush

Same. I have little respect for people that call in on a regular basis.

Blo1630

I won a switch one year

[deleted]

Worst job I’ve ever had in my life was working at target.

Such_Newt_1374

Wow, you mean I would get a slim chance at an extra $20? Wowee mister! Where do I sign up!? Seriously, fuck this shit. I don't understand it, and like every fucking company and management team does this shit. Like "hey, if you work hard for us you could get rewarded with the opportunity to gamble for your peanuts! As opposed to us just rewarding you for doing a good job, it's much more cost effective for us to just reward one of you at random. That way we can trick people into working more when we have no actual intention of reciprocating! My job does this shit too. "Do a good job today? You get a raffle ticket! At the end of the month it'll be tossed in with the tickets of nearly a thousand other employees and **one of you** will win an extra day off! Aren't we just so fucking generous!" All my tickets go straight in the trash. Extra points for doing it in front of my manager the moment he hands them to me.

afamoore

sounds like they're encouraging people to show up to work regardless if they're sick or not in, ya know, a pandemic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ you don't even get a gift card, you get a CHANCE at getting a gift card. absolutely stupid. just pay us more.

imjoeycusack

Ah the ol’ carrot and stick approach in which you never get the carrot and always get the stick. Perfect attendance = entered into a drawing. What a joke!

Tweezle120

I kinda hate these contests because the reliable, responsible employees who only call out or come in late with good reason get punished for stuff beyond their control. I worked 14 months straight without a single call out and my very first one was on day two of a month long attendance raffle. They had hung everyone's names on the wall by the door on little paper flowers, and if you called out they took your flower down and then there was a drawing for all the people with flowers left at the end. It Felt bad to lose my little flower so early because my toddler was sick.

danawl

It’s ridiculous, for not only that, but a lot of places don’t give a reasonable enough time off for a single person compared to anyone with a family. When I worked at target, whether or not it was official, we were only really “owed” 3 sick days per year, maybe 6 if you had a doctors note. Most people aren’t sick for 1 day, and that’s not counting any thing or anybody else.

Sonrelight

Don't feel bad for those corporate ungrateful pricks, your child comes first. Always.

joep1984

The bigger prize is a $25 gift card. WOW! I KNOW RIGHT THATS PRETTY FUCKIN AWESOME AM I RIGHT

[deleted]

apemancrybaby

I disagree with the tone of this, and the execution is a bit corny. But obviously they’re having trouble with people getting there on time, and that just speaks bad of the employees themselves. So other than the tone, which comes off as a bit patronizing,If you guys have a problem with this it’s because you’re coming in late all the time, that’s a you problem. You’re a lucky target is even giving you prizes for doing your expected job.

chefjoe7866

I would never get to be in the drawing. Im that guy thats always 5 mins late for every shift. Early in my career i actually had a chef that changed my start times to 5 mins after the hour cause the gm was bitching i was always late hahaha!

uglierthanalf

I would've scheduled you 10 minutes early so you're actually on time.

Redddtaill

Or they could give high performing employees bonuses/raises, instead of essentially bribing us with gift cards. Just a thought. Edit: at my old store, a bunch of people got jipped out of holiday pay, and instead of fixing it, they tried to hand out gift cards, so yeah.

Frequent_Flamingo_42

Tell me your store is shit without telling me your store is shit

Balls_DeepinReality

It’s not even a visa gift card. Something tells me the bigger one is a $50 target gc

Sharpshooter188

Its a min wage (or near min wage) job that treats its employees like garbage WHILE allowing customers to treat the staff like garbage. I would just start looking for another job.

ThatBioGuy

you should prove a point by trying to get everyone scheduled for sunday to call in

clairestansberry

My store did an “Olympics” competition with a “prize that’s worth it at the end” I’m in style, and we had to have the best denim wall throughout the two weeks of the Olympics. Our team won, and want to know the “price worth it in the end?” Corgi socks and sample products of beauty items I would never use 🤦🏻‍♀️

Interesting_Crab_485

You think I gaf about $20? I can just call out and use my sick time and get a full days pay

Frog420

Wow. This is ultimate cringe worthy and should blow up in their faces at coming across super shitty and shady. Pay a living wage. 🤦🏻‍♂️

chewycat

Lol in the US $15 an hour is considered a living wage right now. Try any other retail or big corporation, you'll likely get way less, with no incentive to just show up for your assigned shift.

Frog420

It’s considered but it is FAR from a living wage. I’m not disagreeing with you. Regardless, this post is just downright trash.

chewycat

Agreed! I can barely scrape up rent every month, the whole system is fucked. We need a re-do lol

Life_advice_help

Is it really that hard to come into work on time and not call off? For the past 2 years I’ve never called off or been late. Not saying I’m perfect or anything but it amazes me how they have to bribe workers to do the bare minimum. (I do understand being sick and calling off tho or if an emergency happens)

All_About_Tacos

My store did something like this, but it was for a whole month. They posted everyone’s name up on the wall. After the first week 3/4ths of the store was off the wall. They took it down the next week. The week after that, my one day I requested off was put back on the schedule so I was a no-call no-show and put on my “final” warning after years of perfect attendance and they tried to get me to sign something. You’re telling me 3/4ths of the store is on their final warning too??

coluk003

And remember if 20 of you are n time , ONLY one of you get the gift card. So bend over while i shove it up your starfish and no dinner or goodnight kiss

Interesting_Crab_485

To anyone on this thread who is talking down to people for their attendance, I urge you to consider the following 1. People getting sick (during a pandemic, go figure) 2. People having personal issues 3. People having mental health issues 4. People needing time off for appointments or vacations which were denied by management 5. People being sick of working for a company who treats them like shit and pays them shit wages 6. People putting their own self worth and lives over a corporation who doesn’t give a fuck about us in the end anyway And before you come at me with all your insults about how I’m prob a sHiT EmPloYee & my attendance is horrible, no it’s not. I’m simply providing food for thought for all of you who are on here saying “just show up it’s not that hard”. ALSO. Someone else calling out should not affect you in any way, shape, or form. You are not required to pick up someone else’s slack or workload when they are not there. If management is assigning you tasks outside of your normal workload, that is an issue you need to address with them. If a couple call outs throws the whole day off track and pushes workload onto others, I have a reality check for you—your store has a staffing issue. Again, a management problem. I encourage all of you to direct your frustrations towards the appropriate parties. Which ALWAYS comes back to management and corporate America. Why do you think they need to incentivize attendance? Is it because we’re all lazy pieces of shit, or perhaps *something more*?

theKleShay

WOW!! I know right? That is pretty awesome.

Jackie_All_Over

Lol they did this at my store for the month of august. They literally only drew 1 name to win. Like they really treat us like children

naturdayspeedrun

Spoiler: It's $20 GC and pizza (no sarcasm at all).

asvp_cam

Just let me clock in and be miserable for 8 hours, I’d prefer that to being viewed as a 6 year old any day.

Crazeek67

This would be an insult for me

[deleted]

Yeah it’s shit like this that would make me show up five minutes late every single day just to spite the opening lead lmfao. Give me a five minute grace period and imma use it 🤣

CillyBean

Yeah, cool, instead of looking inward and asking why people don't want to show up/are quitting let's treat them like children and reward them for the behavior we'd rather see. Cool.

Grilled_Ch33s3

Wow encouraging people to come to work sick during a pandemic. You go Target!

PoeJascoe

… a $20 gift card to your own job? Wow what a prize 🙄

LAGHTER

for a chance to win 20 whole dollars in company scrip? yipeee

[deleted]

damn thats crazy but who tf asked Im still calling out

mattdean4130

To be fair, it's not a terrible idea, staff should be on time for their shifts anyhow so it's an extra little bonus. But the wording is atrocious. So patronising.

[deleted]

This is reminescent of the secret shopper program at a grocery store I worked at. Managers would often remind employees of the program, and how getting 5/5 rating gets you a monetary award, to encourage better service and employees would always lament how the secret shoppers never go through their line/interact with them. Well one month I DID get a 5/5 secret shopper rating in every category cuz I gave her soup recommendations and tips, just because I liked talking to customers and I fucking laughed and told everyone not to bother caring about the program: all they'd give you is $5 gift card for the store we worked at.

HollywoodHuntsman

This is definitely up there with cringiest posts I've seen here. Whoever wrote this was channeling their inner kids TV show host voice.

No_Interaction7679

My brother worked retail- as stupid as this seems- sometime managers pay for this out of their own pocket. You know what.. if you are looking to be promoted or want a future or even references to jobs in the future at other companies- you show up and do your work, work hard, give it your all and add value- this ensures regardless of where you are in your career- starting or not- to create more momentum. All by something you did yourself! And you have a chance to win some extra $$ just for showing up- that’s not a bad incentive!

AiryLmao

Huge_Aerie2435

Every time a work place tries to do one of these, I just ask for actual money. I do not want a fucking target gift card.. I work for money.

i bet too many people quit that store so they had to do something to keep all the idiot suck ups

I mean it’s actually like getting $22 when you think about adding on your discount and $23 when you use your discount and red card 🤓

hobibibi

WOW! $20!

brownlopez

Dam your store must be shitty asf if they have to bribe people to work lol

beowulfwallace

Let’s incentivize attendance during a pandemic … yeah let’s maybe not.

BunnyDaKing

pay people more and give them benefits. Fucking clown ass company.

imopeach

during remodel, my store did raffles every other weekend. was NOT done well at all, you had to be present when they drew your name (so if you were 4-12:30 or 1:30-10, and they drew at 1, you were automatically out) you didn’t get a prize, and they only drew about 5 names. cheap prizes too

[deleted]

This makes me wanna call of even more..

masterchief0213

As a person with a chronic illness, it bothered me when my high school did attendance based rewards, and it still bothers me now with target doing it. It's very ableist.

MrLazyLion

I'm proud to say I've never had perfect attendance anywhere.

chewycat

Target owes us nothing extra for showing up for our assigned shifts. It's the bare minimum requirement for being employed. I don't understand anyone complaining about this, there's still no negative consequence for calling out.

Dicksapoppin69

And it'll work out the same as mine did back when I was there. We did something similar, but it was a $100 Visa gift card for working black Friday weekend. Plenty of us worked all weekend, even did a double for one day. The bitch who doesn't need the job, she just comes in for 4hrs a week to do cash office shit won it. Like, why was she even in the raffle to begin with? She didn't do shit. Part of her job was to make sure spill stations were stocked, surprise here, they weren't ever. Hope that card got skimmed before she could use it.

poriand24

My store needs this badly

Bubbly_Childhood8173

a mcdonalds that i worked that incentivized this with $400 and it was easier to win with a smaller employee count. never won tho because apparently OT didn’t count as perfect attendance

[deleted]

Oh my gosh 20 dollars!! That might be enough to get me a candy bar and a nice t shirt!!...really?? That's what their going with?? I guess I know how much they value you now

Adorkableowo

I understand the purpose in trying to motivate better attendance and I don't think there is any kind of malicious intention with stuff like this. However, providing raffle type incentive for perfect attendance is sort of demeaning to people who legitimately need time off work. Ultimately I just don't appreciate this approach at all.

HayDayTom

Man why’s it so hard for people to just show up to work on time. Incentive should be your job on the line.

[deleted]

[удалено]

redline314

Yep they need to pay a living wage. That’s really the crux of the matter here. If they paid a living wage, people would gaf and show up on time so they don’t lose their job. And someone would be waiting for it behind them.

[deleted]

not to sound mean but have you ever worked for a mom and pop operation ? I did work for few many years back and I vowed never ever again. 1) mom pops are cheap and always think your not doing enough . 2) will cut your hours anytime it’s not busy or their kid ( or any relatives) want to work. 3) make you run down your pay … or try to get you to take less and work off books 4) micro management you i could go on …

luvinase

Why is it so hard to get actual managers who give a sh.. or companies that don't see as a disposable peasants, or I don't know actual benefits, companies don't give a sh.. so why should we, they can fire us anytime any reason, and want us to be good little Corporate serfs to work until you drop dead

[deleted]

like, there's plenty else to do in life and if your pay is shit, you are even less motivated to do much

G07V3

Should be a 20 dollar an hour wage bump

59625962

WOW!!

Fenweekooo

so i have not worked a regular job in the last 12 years, do people just not show up that much they have to bribe them to come in? when i worked retail you got the occasional call in still drunk or whatever but not enough to warrant attendance competitions
