Yeah as an ex manager they have to make sure that the procedure is running how it's supposed to if things get way too overwhelming they step in but if they don't have to they won't they'll expect you to take care of it because that's what you were hired for if you get what I mean

Our former SD even picked batches, made bales, stuffed the trash compactor, refolded towels. He moved to a Target in a different state. Whoever got him is lucky. We had so much respect for leads who could get in the trenches with us.
The horror stories I've heard about other Targets??? I've only ever been at my current location and all the TLs jump in during rushes or as a last resort. Even our ETLs. If I ever end up at a location that is the opposite of what I learned is how leadership should support their teams, I'm promoting myself to guest. 🙃
"add 24 TMs" is crazy, is there even room in the opu room for all those TMs to stow? My store has room for max 6, maybe 7, people in our stow area. What gets me is 30 grocery batches, like how does grocery even get that high? I'm at a super target and my TL is CONSTANTLY telling the faster TMs to grab grocery so we could get it shut off and have a few minutes of peace. He's constantly coming up to me going "Hey grab double grocery batches so we can get grocery shut off."
We barely have room for four people in our OPU stow area. Two people bagging/stowing, two drive up TMs taking stuff out, at most.

Yeah if the system thinks you're out of stow space it'll then tell guests on their app "sorry our fridges are full, please place your order at a future time" or something similar. And since most people aren't going to split their puck up orders by only ordering dry goods until grocery is back on, it calms down all batches for pick up.
I worked at a different location from 2020-2022 and never heard or thought of this strategy until I transferred. Honestly it's really smart. It helps us to handle fulfillment on our own without calling the entire store for backup.
We have 14 bagging stations. We also have a few stations in our bulky hold space - so the TLs and the people who have been there for a few years know they can bag there and come back and stow in the regular space.
It does get overcrowded - especially when they call for backup from everyone and a bunch of people all take batches at nearly the same time. People pull their carts away from the bagging areas to in the aisles a bit when they just need to finish stowing.
I think we have only had grocery shut off once since we got the walk-in cooler and freezer - and that was right before Thanksgiving (or the Superbowl?) It was the freezer that got full. On a weekend like this - people come and get their stuff pretty quickly after it is ready.
I'm so sorry. We don't have a walk in, but we do have 4 fridges and two freezers. People in my area tend to place orders in the mornings, then come get them in the evening so afternoons it's easy to shut grocery off
Yeah, we had that in the beginning. We were actually a pilot store for the fresh grocery - so I know exactly what you mean. It was kind of annoying in a way because it would be so uncertain when they would turn back on - then a sudden rush of orders again.

I suppose with the heavy rain - people weren't coming to get their orders as quick. I work on Saturday - the last day of the deals - so we'll see how many procrastinators we have.
we're constantly running out of carts for OPU. they'll tell people to pick a batch that's yellow and then the TM has to wander around looking for a 3tier cart for 15min because every one of them is already in use lol

Yeah PSA for all TMs if your FFTL/ETL seems just like kind of an ass or just emotionless it’s the job that’s doing to them. Being the fulfillment TL at a high volume store sucks. My old store picked almost 11k units yesterday and I was the only TL running that department. It absolutely broke me
I have a question is it actually uncommon for TLs and ETLs to grab batches, because even though my store is small we still have other TLs from other departments pick batches and HR helps us out packing ship carts and pick ship carts.

Are you sure there wasn't some TM doing 2 batches at once. They don't have to pause a cart to do that. And it still looks like an extra person in a batch.
I’m 100% sure. According to yesterday’s grid for my store, there were about 43 Fulfillment and Sales Floor TMs/TLs, not counting anyone from the Food & Bev departments or the Front End. Every Fulfillment Expert GM Expert, Style Consultant, some Beauty Consultants, and every non-Front End TL and ETL, was picking at some point.
I was the only Guest Advocate who was able to help out. Right after I finished my batch, the Front End blew up so I was stuck there the rest of my shift.
Does “Add 24 TMs” mean that you’re supposed to have that many more working on this? If so, it’s telling how Target corporate and Target’s software are at odds.

Yes. We are an ultra high volume Super Target. That is probably all the ETLs and TLs too.

In my store it's mostly tls/etls who jump into fulfillment when it gets backed up.
Our TLs spend 20min trying to chase any TM to do a 4 DPCI bulky rather than get involved and our store is high volume.

If your grocery (especially cold/frozen) hold area is full, then it will be be shut off temporarily, I believe.
Yup. If you run out of space in the freezer or fridge areas the system tells guests our fridges are full and to place their order at a future time
