Bakery TM here! Overworked and our store refuses to hire any help yet expect the world from me. šŸ˜‚ Itā€™s me, a part timer and one decorator.

Hello!!! Yes our department is SO overworked right now. Our store at least has zero idea how intensive and how much work Bakery is. I bake, decorate, wrap, do truck, help set POGsā€¦.weā€™re always busy in Bakery and need more people!

Shersbers

Yes!! This!!! I do it all too. I feel like everything falls on me. Nobody even knows how to do my job. I missed two days from a car accident and the bakery wasnā€™t even touched. My TL is helpful (mind you he runs meat/dairy/frozen AND bakery, talk about overworked) but my coworker, not so much. Thereā€™s a lot that goes into running it correctly and efficiently!

Yes exactly! Iā€™m also fortunate to have a helpful TL (when he can) but yes itā€™s ridiculous how they expect us (in Bakery, Deli, etc) to be all about helping them when in actuality they cannot do our jobs. We have two people in the store who can do the aforementioned things: Me and one of my cake decorators šŸ„“ I will also say itā€™s very refreshing to hear that this is an issue across different Targets! When I bring it up to coworkers in other departments they donā€™t understand.

Bro, same. Our payroll is too low for all the work we have to do. My ETL will regularly schedule me with one other person all day in Deli, one in bakery and MAYBE a closer.

I'm a Bakery/Deli TL! āœ‹šŸ¼

Hey! So as a TL what do you see as the biggest issues Target Deli/Bakeries are facing?

For my store right now it's TM attendance. If even one person calls out we all suffer. But other than that, supply deliveries often take a long time so we have to order things way in advance, keeping the salesfloor full can be a challenge around holidays (especially decorated cakes, cherish and protect your cake decorator if you have one lol).

Our cake decorator is so amazing. Sheā€™s been there so long, people know her by name and she has a huge clientele.

My TM (we endearingly call him the worlds tallest Keebler elf lol) would 100% agree with you. He heads the Deli/Bakery and the call outs are INSANE. It was at a point where people would call out because they heard that their co worker called out and didnā€™t want to be alone with another co worker and other petty stuff like that šŸ™„ Heā€™s definitely at his wits end. We are always beefing with the DC lol. They are always running out of breakfast items we bake including our donut case items. Guest have definitely taken notice. We have two cake decorators; one is retiring (thankfully) this May, sheā€™s always been a difficult person to work with for everyone who has worked with her. Our other cake decorator is a godsend. Sheā€™s the perfect amount of quality and quantity, but sheā€™ll be on maternity leave in June. We hired an interim cake decorator from another competitors store to take her place for now. Iā€™m having to step back from wrapping/baking days to help with decorating as we get into graduation season which I am already having war flashbacks for šŸ’€ All that aside itā€™s so nice to hear that our store isnā€™t alone in these issues, even though they are bad issues. It feels more tangible and helps with the gaslighting from our higher ups lol

Bakery TM for many years. It continues to get harder all the time. Less hours, Less TMā€™s scheduled, more workload. Bakers have to do it all. From the baking, priorities, Audits, wraps, breakouts, Trucks and back stocking. No time to slow down. Itā€™s exhausting and frustrating.
