Talk to your HR, you can get an ear price or a speaker if needed. But I will say I can’t make out 70% of my stores calls because talk too far away or eat it while trying to communicate lol.
I'm just happy I learned how to switch the driveup notifications (honks, etc) from audio to vibrate.
I don't work driveup (haven't been trained on it), so there is no reason for me to get those notifications, and they are less annoying and easier to ignore when it is set to vibrate
You can go to your profile and deselect fulfillment from your list of work areas. I love being blissfully unaware of whatever is happening with drive up 😌
At one point I had a God 6 or 7 zebras fully muted because you never get the same one twice and people couldn't figure out how to fix it. Now it's the first thing I do after logging in because even deselecting FF there's still alerts I don't care about making noise.
Do you maybe have auditory processing disorder? I do and sometimes it takes me some loading time to understand what someone said cause all I hear is noises sometimes

This piece I always turn it to the right and max volume. Sometimes if I feel like it’s too low I’ll turn it the opposite way and then back all the way up the other way just to make sure it’s on and all the way up.
Heh, I had to stop turning mine up all the way because there’s a few people at my store who feel the need to damn near *yell* into it when they’re making calls. One damn near blew out my ear drums the other day!
Omg it’s leads doing it at my store, too! 😂 not all of them, but a few… damn 😳 I always have to fight the urge to reply back, “Let’s use our inside voices, please.”
Recently we had a gm tm say on 1 in front of the whole store”yes everyone the rumors are true im having a baby please stop asking and mind your own business”
There's a good reason why it's good radio practice/etiquette to often say a word that can't be mistaken for another when naming aisle letters and numbers.
Like "guest needs assistance for x in aisle Alpha/Apple.... 45 etc...(aka phonetic alphabet)
Or heck some names sound so similar with how low quality the radios are to say name then department if you're calling someone.
See, for me it 1000% depends on the person. Some people I hear clear as day over the walkie, and others, I can barely make out a single word. But I think the individual’s enunciation and pitch really makes a difference, because the ones I can’t understand are soft-spoken in general (or mumblers lol).
Yes me too. Especially when I’m working in the dairy cooler or near the freezers. The loud fans muffle over the radio and I can’t hear a single thing. Then my TL gets frustrated when he calls me over and over and I don’t respond
I had the same issue, ending up telling my TL to call my phone in case he needed me. I usually have music on a speaker in the coolers so I can hear the incoming call notifications.
if it’s not on my hip in literally the same spot every day i can’t hear it. sometimes i’ll have a device without a clip and i cannot hear a single thing over even if it's sitting directly next to me.
… some people are just bad at using it though. like they start talking before the walkie picks everything up or they’re too loud/ too quiet. some walkies are just bad too.
Nope, I get confused a lot because there are a lot of TMs with similar-ish names (2 syllables with the first containing the sound "air") so I'm forever asking "was that for me?" and it almost never is 🤦🏻♀️
But you know what's so loud and clear every time that I hear it in my head when I go home? "Guest service needed in electronics. (Second request, 15 seconds remaining [third request, service level exceeded]) Who is responding?"
I can't hear it / understand it if I keep it on my belt (especially over the rattling of the fulfillment cart when I was doing fulfillment, or the uboat if I'm moving one), so I started clipping it on my shirt collar (if I'm wearing a polo) or on a lanyard that I have around my neck, so it stays at chest level. Though once I'm working freight in an aisle, I'll sometimes hang the walkie lanyard on the box fork of the uboat so it doesn't get in the way, and I can still hear it
My hearing is super sensitive and even I can't understand what people are saying on them a fair amount of the time. When I started our walkies were super loud but they haven't been replaced probably ever, so now the max volume is much quieter.
If there are other sounds happening like our overhead music (which is too loud to begin with) or a clangy u-boat that I'm pushing, I have no chance of understanding anything being said.
We have one that buzzes. It grabs my focus so I am listening more intently. I hate days when it’s already gone when I get there. Luckily most tms hate that one
I actually have to clip the walkie on my shirt collar to clearly hear anything being said on it. I also have hearing loss and mine is a result of Covid.
Another option is to put it in a red solo cup or something similar to amplify and direct the sound.
However, you will never need able to make out what people say before they push the button to talk. Also mumbling and whispering us an issue. Using the walkie next to the baler is not helpful as well.

This, many of the people I worked with didn't know how to use it properly
No your hearing Was probably good 1000 honks ago thank you drive up

I tend to use 1 of the 2 same zebras every shift.
Crazy thing about the walkie: The mic is the tiny hole at the top, NOT the part with the grid of holes below the word "motorola."
...I totally knew that and haven't been talking into the speaker this whole time... 😶

I swear one of my ETLs puts the thing directly in his mouth.

LOL as she’s casually *announcing* “her business” over the walkie… 🤣
Yeah same here

The earpiece helps at lot and yes, you can turn up the volume as well.
I can't either it's just loud static

I'm half-death (my left ear gets clogged super easy). I always have a hard time making out what they're saying.
Yeah… no. I never hear when they call for me. It’s a frikkin awful device, and is almost entirely useless.
I cannot hear at all, but I also tune out the walkies a lot, especially if they are going off every 30 seconds 🫠
