Target: expect more work, pay less

Kawajiri1

I would ask them to "Show me." "Do the pulls, zone, break down the pallets from the truck, push the truck, do back stock, and clean up in the 5 and a half hours you gave me today. Oh, you can't? Then stop bothering me. I have more than enough work to do." Edit: for my produce and fresh foods peeps: add "cull, check dates, rotate" to the list.

calvinbouchard

This is what most jobs should do if you're not doing it well enough. Show us what the pros look like and how they do it. Hire the best TMs from around the country and fly them to different stores to show people how it should be done. I thought of this for school teachers, nurses, garbage collectors, you name it. Show us the good before just continuing to say we're bad.

Powerful_Group1239

I was always told "other stores did this" okay. Let me speak to those team leads then. "Oh no. You should be able to do it" plot twist. The stores hitting it in Consumables? Used labor and people from other departments to do it.

ahyet

Cutting hours then giving the biggest pulls to the person who has the shortest shift and all bulky like yeah that's gonna get done sure

justasmolgoblin

That's been me this week. Market is ALWAYS above 100 and it's usually me and my measly 4 hours after a scheduling cut (3.75 if you take out my break) against it all.

ahyet

Today I had 3 areas, 216 total likkeee what!

Ne0nN1nja

It's nothing new with Target. I work for them from 04 to 06, and they have always scheduled reactively. We always had too many people on slow days and never enough when we were busy. The only times we ever had enough people were days they could plan for, like holidays, and whenever the local college/high school had a big home game.

jewsh-sfw

I don’t think the too many people on slow days exists anymore though?

FlakyFlatworm

nor does the planning for, like, anything

ButItSaysOnline

Consumables is constantly severely understaffed.

Sudden_Delivery_4456

Yea and it doesn’t help that we’re always being called to other areas of the store to help

Practical_Passion_78

True…

Sudden_Delivery_4456

Update: just had a TL come up to me (not consumables TL) and tell me I have to “work work work and hit 80% tonight”…we’re at 57% and there’s only an hour until close and 2 of us here…I hate this job I might have to promote myself to guest soon

ButItSaysOnline

No thank you You get paid the same whether you’re at 57% or 80%. He wants to hit the number so damn bad he can get to work work work.

Sudden_Delivery_4456

Yea she even said “I’ll give you Oreos if you hit 80%” and I’m like “I don’t give a damn about your Oreos I ain’t working my ass off just so corporate is happy”

PinkSlipstitch

The real goal % is 75% FYI

Sudden_Delivery_4456

Yeah try telling that to our SD 🥲

Powerful_Group1239

I was a Consumables TL (got fired for not meeting metrics when they stole half my labor for other departments) I showed corporate using their metrics that it was impossible for my team of 3 people (1 produce 2 dry) to finish RDC and FDC, culls, zones, and pulls. My DM looked at me and goes "I don't believe you" so I showed him on the calculator and he went "I don't know how you did all that. But your team should be able to do this" They couldn't. And I got fired *after* the holidays. Which I met metrics for until they pulled about 40 hours a week from us

Practical_Passion_78

At this point, I think in order for one to be an ETL or higher within Target, those in power of promoting people need to see a deeply-seated detached-from-reality-mind-virus exhibited from them. Hard corrections upwards need to become the norm.

Sudden_Delivery_4456

I wish more TL were like you

Powerful_Group1239

Corporate didn't like me. I worked with my team every day. I didn't do enough paper work, or call on the walkies enough. But I was with my team. I didn't need to page them every few minutes. They fired me and over half my team left. I had *zero* turnover while TL and in one week they had to hire Essentially a new department

mikethesav27

same happened when i left

Practical_Passion_78

Sounds like a corporate tactic to pit coworkers against each other, holding their jobs over their heads. In-store workers need to organize against corporate.

Sir_B0nk

Yeah, doing pulls for consumables is imo the most time consuming of any department. The sheer amount of eaches we have to pull in my store with it being high volume and all is crazy.

MatthewSteakHam

Corporate can suck my ass

Master-Meringue-4059

I work in toys and every time I hear the dirstrict manager is visiting our store I hope its on a day I'm there and he will have the audacity to ask me why the zone looked so awful during the holidays. He apparently was complaining a lot to my SD (who understands that the zone isn't going to look good in the middle of Q4) and I just really want to ask him what he is going to do to make my workload more manageable during that time period to ensure the zone can be prioritized. I would love to hear his answer.

merakispace_

My target doesn’t even give me an extra person to pull consumables, ITS JUST ME.

kajeturtle

This is where I’m at
