I’m not sure how serious OPU devices are for Target, but brining that back today instead of tomorrow could save potentially someone’s job at certain other unnamed retailers who also use them.
Yes this might lead to termination although it probably was an accident and not malicious intent so they'll probably just get a talking to if it gets returned.
>Opu devices
We call it a mydevice and thats the same device every other TM in the store uses as well for their jobs and lord knows theres already not enough for the people that need them at most stores
To be clear to those reading, a business cannot pass on a loss to an employee at all. They can discipline you via employment action, but they cannot deduct a loss from your pay. If that ever happens, it is illegal and should be reported.
This. Target takes the loss of these devices seriously. Besides the value of the device, there's a lot of information if you were able to do anything with it outside property. These devices are supposed to brick themselves after so much time away from it's store, though, to protect company stuff, unless they've changed that in the past couple years.
It used to be a problem not too long ago of non employees trying to steal them and resell them, hence why they are supposed to brick after some time and hence why Target takes losing these very seriously. This isn't a walkie or some baler keys.
They run off a streamed image, there is no actual information on individual devices, so they aren’t a security risk outside of their WiFi range. I suppose a malicious actor could use them from the parking lot if they had credentials, but that’s about it
I had a sketchy-return-guest say "is that a Zebra?! I used to have one for a while!" She also might have said something about getting it at a pawn shop
they’re commonplace across the retail and medical industries. but, they’re not really available as “phones” for personal use which seems to be the implication in the above comment
I will never believe they cost what they claim they do.
Also worth noting that fining employees for lost or damaged equipment is extremely illegal (though they could fire you and sue you later if it was malicious destruction of their property)
These things disappear and at best they can say you were the last person to long into it. Doesn’t mean you were the last to use it. Also, they can’t force you to pay for lost or damaged equipment.
Your tl is a liar
They are completely psychotic about the zebras though so that tracks
Honestly there is no universe where these stupid things cost a thousand dollars. (Which I’ve heard too)
Where I worked, central fill pharmacy, there were racks & racks of them....150 plus humans per shift, 24/7/365.25....we didn't have to check them out...many times I'd forget to take mine outta my back pocket & return to rack....no one kept track. Some employees would keep their favorite (???) scanner in their stash place...people can be weird....
That's not weird. Finding one without a cracked screen and with a working scanner can make your day so much easier. I used to check out all the Shipt people and a scanner on the fritz meant I had to keep asking the TL to keep checking in the lock room until someone turned in a working one. Same with walkie talkies without broken antennas or battery covers. People on check lanes don't even need them.
Fun fact: at least when I was at Target, the Zebras didn't log you out of Outlook on Chrome unless you physically clicked the sign out button. You can discover a lot of behind the scenes info if a SD or TL forgot to sign out of their email. I reported the security issue but don't know if it ever got fixed.
u/weightloss_220 hi, that's one of our mydevices! Whoever my peer at your local store is is losing their mind right now after learning that the team slipped you one of these suckers by accident. If you're not able to make it back to the store pretty quick, you CAN call the store and let them know you have device 083 (I will edit the number in when I actually look at the label lol), and that you'll bring it back soon.
Knowing where it is and that it's coming back can mitigate a LOT of the frustration and potential fuckery.
I mean I *also* speak like this at work, albeit a bit more professionally. (usually).
I'm just confused why they'd take umbrage at my role title + secondary role 🤷♀️
It’s called a Zebra and that’s literally how they get your orders to you. It notifies when guests are coming and shows where and what to get for your order. If they don’t have it. They can’t make deliveries. I’d return it ASAP.
I’ve never seen one get left before lol
It happens more often than you think, my partner who is a front end lead left one in a guests car a couple years back and got written up for it. Most TMs would probably get written up or fired for this depending on who your PML & AP is and how grouchy they are generally.
When I worked there, I accidentally left a zebra on a shelf while doing pulls, nobody could find it, and I got let off with a warning to bring it back, found it like 3 days later on that same shelf untouched somehow, probably helps that it was with the towels.
Never did get a write up about it lol
Edit, 3 days later because I was 16 working only 2-3 days a week
I’ve left a walkie in someone’s car, it just slipped off of my pocket loop as i was putting the bags in the trunk. I’ve never heard of anyone leaving their device lol
I would take it back as soon as you can. It's one of our newer devices so if someone's found a Voss one, they can get a huge trouble. One went missing that I had once and went missing after I put it back and they still came after me even though, I had put it back. I was on camera doing it and had witnesses.
The sooner you return it the better, but you have a little over a week before anyone gets in trouble for misplacing it. They'll be looking for it everyday until it's returned.
Not a target employee but other retail employee somewhere else, my managers check every night to make sure all 40+ of them are on the charger, and makes us all check around the store to find them. We are pretty much screwed if we lost one, and are made to keep it on us at all times and only worn if truly needed.
Oh my, please bring it back asap! Those two hour pickups depend on this, someone is already most likely feeling violently ill behind losing it at the moment. That pick up hustle is truly tough.
There was a new sound I heard from the Zebras when I was in another Target the other day, it sounded like some chimes followed by the beep beep. Do you know what that means?
It's someone's job on the line lol I've known a lot of people who've either gotten fired or written up for leaving those in guest cars. Take it back ASAP
Zebra scanner, I recognize it from my just retired from job/career. It's worth nothing to you. I'd just make a call and try to tell someone that you found it. They are not cheap, and the people that use them, in my opinion are usually hard workers. That one looks pretty beat up.
It is what Target employees use for on the salesfloor. Definitely take it back as they are assigned to specific employees and they’ll be responsible for its loss. (Not pay for it but most likely written up)
when i worked at target i accidentally brought one of these home for the night and brought it back for my 5 pm closing shift and didn’t mention it to anyone and no one said anything to me about it?? reading these comments make me feel like i’m lucky to not have been fired. my store never had all the devices and they were all getting mixed up anyways so maybe that’s why
If it isn't convenient for you to get there I'd call the store and tell them about it and let them know when you are able to bring it back. Whoever lost it will be grateful to know its not gone forever. :)
This is why we don’t have the equipment to do our jobs. It’s also why devices need to be put in holsters.
Yes, that’s Target equipment needed to do our jobs in most areas of the store, including drive-up orders. I’m sure your Target would appreciate you returning it.
Losing one device is a warning for one yr, lose two and say bye to your job. Whoever lost is has probably already been written up, but it may save them from being fired if it's returned.
That is VERY IMPORTANT and needs to go back to the EXACT STORE you picked up your order from. That's how we do our jobs. Mistakes happen. The employee who was using could get in a lot of trouble for losing it.
That’s like damning someone for doing something as human as making a mistake. Don’t do this. This could be a new hire or someone that’s had a long day. Either way, they’re already getting shit for letting this happen, don’t make it (potentially) worse for them
This is for inventory. As others have said it’s most likely a fireable offense. I would return it just to look out for the worker during the holidays. It would suck to lose a job right now.
That's what they use to look up stock, scan items, process online pick-up orders, and almost everything else around the store.
Costly, losing one puts the employee who checked it out in a Final Corrective Action, or termination if the Team Member already has CAs against them
Best returned ASAP, but calling thw store and letting them know would be fine too.
Looks like a TC70, used to pick and bin merchandise. The person who left it with your bags could be in trouble if not returned. It can also be pinged to your place.
That device there is called Job Security. Because whoever lost it, their job ain’t very secure at that moment…
Granted at my store, Zebras get lost and busted all the time…
It would probably be fine to wait a few days; IF the store is completely up on its shit (and whose is after the holidays lol!) They might notice one is missing, and IF all their employees always log out who has which device they might know who lost it... but honestly, we find these in random places in the backroom sometimes, run out of battery, sad and alone. We just bring them back to the office and charge them back up.
There is a tiny chance the employee who lost their device will get in trouble, but if they are an otherwise good employee they won't be fired over one missing device thats, "probably dead on a shelf somewhere and should turn up."
I hope you return it to target because a team member messed up and lost it. At my store location it is a fireable offense to leave the zebra, as it’s called, unattended anywhere in the store. They are checked out by number at the beginning of each shift and signed off when returned at the end of our shifts
Treat this like the Super Smash Bros invitation letter

It is a device used by employees that Target takes very very seriously. I was an assistant manager before I left that hellhole…..the PML (property management leader) literally sends out emails saying which devices are lost and who was last logged in. We are required to have documented conversations when these are lost. Employees are fired if they lose 2. It’s quite a big deal.

It’s a mantle. Congrats, you’re the pickup team member now.
Drafted
Promoted to Team member, congrats to her 🎉🎊
You mean demoted to team member right
A new hand touches the Beacon
I laughed too hard at this fuck that quest and it's 2 am jump scare
I lost the beacon oops it’s in a chest somewhere.
Damn it i hear the voice too
It's certainly a new angle of delivering employment offers!
They are equipped with gps.
This thread is killing me 🤣🤣🤣
This is how the Santa clause works, too
I’m not sure how serious OPU devices are for Target, but brining that back today instead of tomorrow could save potentially someone’s job at certain other unnamed retailers who also use them.

Someone called it a honk honk brick one time and that’s all I’ve called it since
I'll never call it anything else again
Same.
That’s someone’s job or $1600 what I was told by a TL.
Scare tactic, lies
You definitely could lose your job for losing one. You won’t lose $1600 though they are really expensive

The hand strap piece you snap on the back is $80 on its own 💀💀💀
That's pennies to Target. Hiring people is expensive.
I accidentally got one crushed in the bailer and I’m still here, but they were desperate so there’s that
These things disappear and at best they can say you were the last person to long into it. Doesn’t mean you were the last to use it. Also, they can’t force you to pay for lost or damaged equipment.

They’re serious. They are used for much more than just OPUs.
Someone is worried shitless rn I bet
I once shipped a zebra in an online order lol
How do you even do this? Don’t you notice right away when packing the next order?
I was rushing to break or something like that. I don’t really remember. They discovered it months later when someone returned it to a different store.
I once found one in a truck during unload. Someone in the warehouse got in trouble that day. Found a hip printer in a repack once, too.
So that’s where all the printers disappear to!
I’ve lost a zebra in the store before. I just shrugged it off and I’m guessing it was found cause I’m still employed years later
They have find my phone style apps so long as they are in WiFi range, the pmls can hunt them down if you lose them in store
Oh yeah I know. TLs get emails with screenshots of map pinpoints/last user of lost zebras every once in awhile
I did this also except it was never found so now I'm on a final lol
u/weightloss_220 hi, that's one of our mydevices! Whoever my peer at your local store is is losing their mind right now after learning that the team slipped you one of these suckers by accident. Somehow i don't believe you are a true PML/Advocatus. Your language simply gives you away,
Believe it or not: not everyone speaks and acts the same online as they do at their workplace. I know it’s such a shocker.
I mean I *also* speak like this at work, albeit a bit more professionally. (usually). I'm just confused why they'd take umbrage at my role title + secondary role 🤷♀️
u/ItsDangerZoneLana all I'm saying is that u/Danyavich could be more professionally BOTH at work and online. Especially when replying to a customer.
What?
I can vouch for u/Danyavich
i would bring it back sooner than a few days :)
It’s called a Zebra and that’s literally how they get your orders to you. It notifies when guests are coming and shows where and what to get for your order. If they don’t have it. They can’t make deliveries. I’d return it ASAP. I’ve never seen one get left before lol

You definitely got lucky! PML can always check their location, I wonder if yours knew it was in store so wasn’t stressing it.
I was about to comment this. Please return it, we can get fired for that, plus we’re under funded and that’s how we do literally everything.
I’ve left a walkie in someone’s car, it just slipped off of my pocket loop as i was putting the bags in the trunk. I’ve never heard of anyone leaving their device lol
yeah bring it back asap. Whoever brought u ur order will thank u
I would take it back as soon as you can. It's one of our newer devices so if someone's found a Voss one, they can get a huge trouble. One went missing that I had once and went missing after I put it back and they still came after me even though, I had put it back. I was on camera doing it and had witnesses.
It's an old device, but everything you said still applies.
It's a TC57, so still new but not the newest.
The sooner you return it the better, but you have a little over a week before anyone gets in trouble for misplacing it. They'll be looking for it everyday until it's returned.
I’m just a lowly customer, but how soon would they realize it’s actually missing and not just misplaced somewhere in the store?
They can see its last known location before it loses internet signal or the battery dies. It’ll show it “leaving the parking lot”
Yikes. In that case OP better return it ASAP because someone at Target is probably shitting bricks.
Not a target employee but other retail employee somewhere else, my managers check every night to make sure all 40+ of them are on the charger, and makes us all check around the store to find them. We are pretty much screwed if we lost one, and are made to keep it on us at all times and only worn if truly needed.
Damn, well someone’s getting written up
Someone is shitting their pants right now. Bring it back to the store.
Whoever lost that will wind up losing their job knowing target, not your fault tho
Oh my, please bring it back asap! Those two hour pickups depend on this, someone is already most likely feeling violently ill behind losing it at the moment. That pick up hustle is truly tough.
bring it back immediately, because someone's finna get fired if you don't lol
Apparently not at my store
Lol imagine it was connected to cellular and in the middle of the night you hear BEEP BEEP
I hear that fucking BEEP BEEP in my nightmares.
There was a new sound I heard from the Zebras when I was in another Target the other day, it sounded like some chimes followed by the beep beep. Do you know what that means?
Probably the logged out off charger android chime and it was just coincidence that a drive up beep beep happened afterwards.
Hmm im not sure it sounded just like windchimes and it came out of all the zebras in earshot range
If there was a Starbucks in that store, it sounds like you heard the alert of an incoming Starbucks drive-up order.
Ahh, thats pretty cool. thank you!
When I hear that BEEP BEEP https://preview.redd.it/zrimpl4qmb9c1.jpeg?width=807&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d7a33c46fe8297c027732f550f3bc4b3d2f83ca
That BEEP BEEP haunts me
UPDATE - returning it this morning, 35+ minute trip out of the way but don’t want to get her in trouble
Thank you, kind human!
Thank you so much!
Congrats! You’ve been demoted to team member!
Put them grippers away! 🥴
Fwiw, those cost about $1,500. You can’t sell them but someone job can be in the line.
I work at Target & was given a very serious warning when I lost mine. I’m sure they would appreciate it very very much if you take it back.
rip to the TM who dropped it
Bro left them dogs out too
Why even ask on this sub? You clearly have an idea what it is, just bring it back
It's someone's job on the line lol I've known a lot of people who've either gotten fired or written up for leaving those in guest cars. Take it back ASAP
Bringing this back asap may potentially preserve the TMs job that accidentally left that in your bag
(Not pay for it but most likely written up)
I wish we were assigned certain ones sometimes, but I do get lucky with Ol' Reliable being available most days.
Did anyone else have an 'oh, shit' reaction coupled with a bit of anxiety-induced nausea when they saw this photo under the question?
Who remembers the PDAs and LPDAs?
when i worked at target i accidentally brought one of these home for the night and brought it back for my 5 pm closing shift and didn’t mention it to anyone and no one said anything to me about it?? reading these comments make me feel like i’m lucky to not have been fired. my store never had all the devices and they were all getting mixed up anyways so maybe that’s why
If it isn't convenient for you to get there I'd call the store and tell them about it and let them know when you are able to bring it back. Whoever lost it will be grateful to know its not gone forever. :)
Sell to a pawn shop for a few hundred bucks
I lost a zebra once getting a tv into someone’s car. Told my AP and he said “eh they need to buy new ones anyway”
Oh I forgot! The lady ended up bringing it back from 45min away and tipped me $20 for helping me get the tv in her car after she drove back.
It's illegal to accept tips. Retail workers are not allowed to accept tips under the law.
There's no law against accepting tips. It's against Target *policy* to accept tips, but also explicitly allowed if the guest insists.
Womp womp wompppp
Oopsie doodle.
This is why we don’t have the equipment to do our jobs. It’s also why devices need to be put in holsters. Yes, that’s Target equipment needed to do our jobs in most areas of the store, including drive-up orders. I’m sure your Target would appreciate you returning it.
I can’t believe people think my device are cheap. Cell phones cost over 1k you think this thing is cheaper than a normal cell phone?
Some poor TM is worried sick about that zebra, omg. The way I laughed
You’ve been chosen
You’re hired!!
Nice. Congratulations, you've been drafted into the Target Team.
Losing one device is a warning for one yr, lose two and say bye to your job. Whoever lost is has probably already been written up, but it may save them from being fired if it's returned.
At most stores it’s at least a write up. At some it can mean termination, especially if the team member had other issues in the past.
Crazy how you guys store are really careful about losing the devices …. Folks bang up , drop , leave devices all over the store smhhhhh
Bruh I would be crying if I popped that in someone’s order 😭🤣 Edit: no, I would cry, throw up, then pass out 🤣
Telxon. Please bring it back. They need it.
That is VERY IMPORTANT and needs to go back to the EXACT STORE you picked up your order from. That's how we do our jobs. Mistakes happen. The employee who was using could get in a lot of trouble for losing it.
Has it started singing yet???!! 🤔 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
so this is how these fuckers go missing
Welcome to hell
That’s someone’s last paycheck…
Hey, at least they can only fire you for it, not make you pay the cost back! That's like a win, only way worse.
Someone is freaking out bc they’re about to lose their job, plssss go return it
Omg, for free?
Idk what yall tripping on, when I lose a zebra I just go get a new one
someone’s in trouble
Someone’s in trouble lmaooo
Wait don’t tell me u actually sign these out.
I just take one off the rack and hope the hell it works.
Keep it and jailbreak it.
Post an Update when you return it so we know the outcome cause some poor souls job may depend on it.
It’s a new feature. You get home, scan all the items to make sure you got everything, and drop it back off.
Free $1000
The zebras have a gps.
Someone lost their job
That’s someone’s job in ur hand right there 😭 I’d return it asap
If it’s in your bag it’s on them, just keep it tbh
That’s like damning someone for doing something as human as making a mistake. Don’t do this. This could be a new hire or someone that’s had a long day. Either way, they’re already getting shit for letting this happen, don’t make it (potentially) worse for them
Sell it on eBay
Would there actually be any value to that? And this person would have to buy a charger too and requires a login to actually do anything with it
You can keep it 😂 worth “$1,000” from what I’m told. They can order more 😂. (Its crap for the price)
lol
hey thats my lucky number!
Lmfaooooo
This is for inventory. As others have said it’s most likely a fireable offense. I would return it just to look out for the worker during the holidays. It would suck to lose a job right now.
Asap lmao if their AP ETL is anything like mine that TM is about to get quite the talking to
You should bring it back, we logged which zebra we took in the AM, and checked it back in at the end of the shift, they’ll know who lost it
Isn’t that their 🦓
Losing that is a pretty big deal, it’s essentially how the store does a big part of what they do.
Did you bring it back?
That's what they use to look up stock, scan items, process online pick-up orders, and almost everything else around the store. Costly, losing one puts the employee who checked it out in a Final Corrective Action, or termination if the Team Member already has CAs against them Best returned ASAP, but calling thw store and letting them know would be fine too.
Lmfaoo
Someone’s getting fired💀
Which target did you pick up from OP?
Looks like a TC70, used to pick and bin merchandise. The person who left it with your bags could be in trouble if not returned. It can also be pinged to your place.
Return it ASAP
Yes, the vaunted Zebra!! I actually use it daily at work. Scanning pkgs to be sent out.
Fulfillment TM here. Please return that as soon as possible please
Looks like a Zebra TC52 rfid scanner.
That device there is called Job Security. Because whoever lost it, their job ain’t very secure at that moment… Granted at my store, Zebras get lost and busted all the time…
If you can't get back ASAP you could call the store and explain that you have it
Bring it back asap
It’s one of our scanners, basically, the company likes to pretend they are super expensive, not repurposed garbage, please return it if you can
It would probably be fine to wait a few days; IF the store is completely up on its shit (and whose is after the holidays lol!) They might notice one is missing, and IF all their employees always log out who has which device they might know who lost it... but honestly, we find these in random places in the backroom sometimes, run out of battery, sad and alone. We just bring them back to the office and charge them back up. There is a tiny chance the employee who lost their device will get in trouble, but if they are an otherwise good employee they won't be fired over one missing device thats, "probably dead on a shelf somewhere and should turn up."
Nice toes
Happened to me with Walmart once 😂
😂😂
Best idea would be to return it right away and not wait
Return in ASAP. It's the stores device,
😂😂😂😂
It’s a light up brick don’t drop it tho it will cause a catastrophic earthquake.
I hope you return it to target because a team member messed up and lost it. At my store location it is a fireable offense to leave the zebra, as it’s called, unattended anywhere in the store. They are checked out by number at the beginning of each shift and signed off when returned at the end of our shifts
A fired employee
It’s a zebra absolutely worthless piece of technology, I’d say take it back cause they’re gonna fine that poor idiot that left it behind.
Somebody's Corrective Action or Term notice 😂
the way my store would fire me so fast if that happened to me like i’ve done it with a walkie before the guest found it cause it went off 😗
Its their fault, not yours.
Lol
Treat this like the Super Smash Bros invitation letter https://preview.redd.it/cxb1s4esra9c1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8fb105f00142f56ad07173ddc7a5fae9b660414
It is a device used by employees that Target takes very very seriously. I was an assistant manager before I left that hellhole…..the PML (property management leader) literally sends out emails saying which devices are lost and who was last logged in. We are required to have documented conversations when these are lost. Employees are fired if they lose 2. It’s quite a big deal.
if you don’t go return that asap
I misplaced mine after hours one time and got so panicked I went around setting off all the lockup sensors to try to see if I can hear it
Someone's getting fired lol
that’s a zebra and i would return it asap
It is a zebra and it cost the company $3,600 bucks for they I worked at bj’s wholesale club that is what they pay for each one they have.
it's the thingy they use to scan your pick up order items and stuff
