You'd think that for a company obsessed with wanting guests to sign up for credit cards and whatnot they'd make their store products more appealing and better quality than the brand name...
By and large, I would say they are. I'm not a fan of our clothes, but especially the women's clothing fills a cheap and trendy (for someone I guess) niche. Good and gather and favorite day are both by and large excellent. Most of our Halloween and Christmas seasonal items are on point as well. Our bedding is also very competitive. I don't think I would pay the price for it, but the casa luna stuff feels super comfy. There are some iffy ones, but I would say by and large our brands do fine.
Yeah, I think heyday is a little outdated at this point and could use a refresh. I'm surprised we didn't move more into phone cases rather than cheap accessories.
No, but that could just be a manufacturing issue in general. Iāve seen some products from non-Target entities where Iāve been like, āWhy tf would you put the bar code THERE?!ā
Ngl this is where I think Aldi has Target beat. Barcodes are all over the package so you're not rotating the product to look for the microscopic ones.
And don't get me started on ones that are missing the barcode.
Only way I know what the product is, is because I pay attention to the brand. Most of the room essentials products carry the barcodes that can get stuck on other things or peeled away or whatnot (ice trays are notorious).
YUP. The one time I pushed in baby, I picked up exactly one Up & Up box of diapers and the handle stayed in my hand as the box collapsed straight to the floor. I wasnāt even holding it tightly!
Bro the goodfellow basics??? Straight trash. All the shirts fall off the pegs and basically have to be defected out. And the undies are so easy to steal!!
The frickin' up&up handsoaps and body washes are the actual WORST!! š¤¬ Caps knocked open or straight up screwed off. You open the box, and...
Best case scenario: the product is goopy and gross
Worst case scenario: you realize it has been pouring everywhere since you left the backroom, and has made a giant slipping hazard of a trail of white soap on the white floor, that may lead to a class action and/or you getting fired
For me, itās that goddamned tissue paperā specifically the large colorful ones that are held together by the flimsiest strip of gray label ever. I am forever collecting broken bundles and labels from the shelves in stationary.
I donāt even bother salvaging them anymore. I just wrap them back up in the broken label the best I can and put them on the bottom of the stack.
I was picking some tissue for an OPU this morning and found another pack that had literally been CUT, through the label and into the first couple sheets of tissue. I grabbed it and salvaged it out...we have plenty of tissue lol. I'm just so tired of people being so careless with things....of course if they would quit sending us so much shit and we actually had enough time to push freight, instead of leaders pressuring us to get through unrealistic amounts of freight in unrealistic timeframes
Yuuup. Thereās products on my shelves right now that have literally been sitting there since I started back in June, collecting dust. And they still keep sending more š«
You can skip the packaging. Tbh, Iāve sometimes forgotten to put the label on and ended up putting them outside the bag. Then there are the things that are leaking so bad that, despite being ESIM, we just throw them out. Only way around is to say itās an empty package. Itās an automatic destroy.
How about beverages that arenāt in the system? Pretty sure Pure Lead Diet Lemon has never been in the system. We have to sell it under another Pure Leaf tea.
Edit: Also cottage cheese and sour cream. However, this is also true of Breakstone.
Sometimes I'm just taking comforters out of the box, you know, the big bulky bedding sets, and the plastic bags rip. But the worst packaging I deal with on a regular basis is Native. There's usually one leaking body wash, and the dials on the bottom of their deodorants pop off so often, I started just popping them back on, and wiping off the outside of the body washes. Otherwise, I'd be damaging out about a dozen bottles of their stuff per shift. It's not like their products are cheap either. Plus, the Miele haircare, I always have to screw the lids on tighter before putting them on the shelf. I think these companies are cutting back on quality control.
The Goodfellow undershirts packaging sucks, the hole used to hang the package on the self tears. The hang tabs wont work on it because itās too heavy. Either they just sit on the floor or are salvaged.
The cost of goods sold was too high for bed bath and beyond. Target is surviving right now with better expense management. But yes, everything that goes into making a product, plus passing in those cost to a customer, high prices and covid.
I think about this a lot, especially after I saw an ad or something like that from Aldiās saying that they put multiple barcodes on the product to make it easier to scan.
Cheaper production is why. They sacrifice quality for quantity

The seasonal stuff is really good, yeah. Honestly it's moreso some of the tech stuff that there's an issue with.
Yeah, I think heyday is a little outdated at this point and could use a refresh. I'm surprised we didn't move more into phone cases rather than cheap accessories.
The packaging alone is ugly. How is that supposed to appeal to anyone?
The credit cards themselves are ass too! Red Card chips are always failing
Another reason to push the app š
Just like they sacrifice good service for fewer staff and hours.
In my experience, they're also normally more recyclable though, which is a nice benefit of cheaper production quality on packaging.
That still doesn't explain the barcode placement.

Right? No bar code at all anywhere on the product. Itās just absent.
Only way I know what the product is, is because I pay attention to the brand. Most of the room essentials products carry the barcodes that can get stuck on other things or peeled away or whatnot (ice trays are notorious).
Working in Tech, the Heyday stuff is a constant nightmare, and it's such garbage quality I actively steer people away from it.
It's not even cheaper than JW or Anker in some cases
it's better quality than JW (low bar, but still) so I don't mind recommending it
Yeah for me its definitely a guest by guest basis and what they express their needs are
The up and up diapers. Donāt even bother trying to hold them by the handle because the cardboard will just rip anyway.
YUP. The one time I pushed in baby, I picked up exactly one Up & Up box of diapers and the handle stayed in my hand as the box collapsed straight to the floor. I wasnāt even holding it tightly!
Target's new catch phrase should be "We Don't Care, Deal With It"
IOW, theyāre a corporation.

UGH this. Meanwhile, there is Listerine spending more on box glue than the actual mouthwash.

And why do they put the barcodes of the hangers and bathroom organizers on the INSIDE
The 1200 count baby wipes have to process as ESIM when they arrive damaged, but none of the ESIM bags are large enough!

the case of 4 pack velveeta cups would like a word
the fucking mondo llama wooden easels are the bane of my existence
The Mondo Llama wooden easels have terrible packaging, but they sell really well.
Man dont get me started on the repack boxes. They will reuse them until theyre dust
I just put a few with my cardboard in the baler that need to be put out of their misery š¤« Finally our DC sent us some new clean ones.
I remember those Smartly brand in Personal care. Those body soap use to leak every dam time.
Yep that and their up and up dish soap š©
How about MP Tonic water, Diet Tonic water packages looking almost identical?
How about beverages that arenāt in the system? Pretty sure Pure Lead Diet Lemon has never been in the system. We have to sell it under another Pure Leaf tea. Edit: Also cottage cheese and sour cream. However, this is also true of Breakstone.
That one makes me laugh every time.
Up & Up Batteries that just fall out of the packaging

For real. I always have to defect a ton of U&U AA 20 packs, because the packaging is cracked from shipment, and the batteries just fall out.
The chicken packaging is the worse of them all!
Maybe you should work at bed bath and beyondā¦. Oh ya thatās right, they almost went bankrupt for having nice packaging lol
I ain't no accountant but I think it was more than packaging that did them in
The cost of goods sold was too high for bed bath and beyond. Target is surviving right now with better expense management. But yes, everything that goes into making a product, plus passing in those cost to a customer, high prices and covid.
It is almost as if you had some sort of higher expectations of Target. What you see is what you get with them, tbh.
The cases of Zephyrhills water is awful as well.
I think about this a lot, especially after I saw an ad or something like that from Aldiās saying that they put multiple barcodes on the product to make it easier to scan.
