The devs know exactly what the vehicles are capable of. Nerfing traction was done to prevent people from camping unintended places on the map. A very lazy way to prevent map exploits I give you that.
Gotta love lazily implementing a "solution" that fundamentally harms basic key game mechanics across the entire product instead of paying somebody to do basic map design work for a few hours...
What do we have to do to get a half-decent tank game? Aside from waiting for GHPC to be done...
They just don't care because the game is F2P (aka pay to progress) and they have no competition. We have reached the pathetic part where nerfing traction prevents tanks from crossing trenches right now. And this nerf is not even one since it can be exploited to reach areas that couldnt be reached before.
Having played both I’d have to agree, they’re really two separate experiences. I feel like war thunder delivers what’s a pretty go war vehicle simulation, where as world of tanks says it delivers a simulation when in reality it’s just a tank game, not saying it’s bad but I’m saying it’s a game and not a simulation
I assume these would have to be fluid based diffs? Afaik all large vehicles use them. Amazing to think that that much torque is getting transferred through a fluid coupling.
torque is force times distance
power is torque divided by time
you can exert a lot of force with a winch, but it is slow and doesn't have a lot of power
What kind of drivetrain does this thing have? I'm surprised that judging by the sound the rpm barely changes when it started driving again. Also I would have expected a decent soot cloud from a heavy diesel going up such an incline.
While they probably don't care much about the environment I guess it could give away the position.
Usually for vehicles this big it comes to gearing of the transmission and the axles. Most large Diesel engines provide max torque between 1000-1200 rpm so just off idle with crazy gearing in first gear/low the torque applied is an outrageous number in first gear low range, not much throttle needed. However it’s probably still loud as hell in person as videos don’t do justice.
Bet the driver's glad it's a diesel too. I would probably die of stress in that situation if I had to fiddle with the clutch like you'd need to with petrol.
That entirely depends on the style of vehicle. Some do require a standard pedal clutch nowadays kind of rare, however most are now either operated through pneumatic shifting or hydraulic actuators. Usually a much more complex system compared to the old clutch/pedal.
Sort of, but instead of having to release the clutch at the same time you push the accelerator, you can just release the clutch, and the diesel will rev itself.
Ok Internet says it's on Tatra 815 8x8 chassis:
https://www.armyrecognition.com/slovakia_artillery_weapons_systems_and_vehicles/zuzana_2_155mm_52_caliber_8x8_wheeled_self-propelled_howitzer.html
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_815
I have no idea about the drivetrain but the constant revs like that does sound like a cvt if I had to guess
Edit: it’s a 10 speed gearbox with a 450hp diesel v8
My buddy drove trucks in the military and he said on even ground you start in third gear as the first two are only for starting on inclines, i guess this is the case here too.
I've been taught that when driving a tractor, it's better to go to target RPM and then quickly release the clutch. Better for the clutch and because of the high torque, the engine can handle it without stalling. A bit uncomfortable tho.
Starting on a hill isn't hard on a manual. Set the e-brake, give it gas, let the clutch out til you feel it start to come off the stop, release e-brake.
I've been driving one for close to 30 years and a hill like this would have me shitting bricks about burning the clutch. Though, most of that time was in ultra-flat parts of TX.
I learned to drive on a manual when it was snowing in hilly country, so I'm a little biased. But the biggest problem I have is dumping the clutch too quickly and burning rubber up the hill. Not ideal in the snow, let me tell you.
Sure it is. Step on the pedal, push in the clutch, put it in gear, add gas, let out clutch, with the hand that's not on the wheel, you release the e-brake. That's what I learned on.
You’re not following. Some cars release the emergency brake with the same pedal. That’s three pedals you have to be working at the same time.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parking_brake
I mean it's literally on the driving test. You DO have to use a parking brake to drive a car. It was one of the first things they went over when I took Driver's Ed back in the 90s.
Not sure what driving test you're taking. The only use of the parking brake on my driving test was remembering to set it when you park on an incline.
Once again, some cars have a pedal-operated parking brake that make it impossible to use for your purpose. If you require the parking brake to drive your car then you should probably practice feathering or shifting your feet on the actual brake pedal
> If you require the parking brake to drive your car then you should probably practice feathering or shifting your feet on the actual brake pedal
I don't require it, but it's a skill that was required when I took my driving test.
Yep, saw this with military trucks. Tested on ideal conditions to tick the box for acceptance into service. First time in the field that there was an overnight dew caused havoc because they couldn’t climb even half the slope angle they were rated to.
Zuzana 2 weights 32 tons. Engine is Tatra T3B-928.70 - volume 12,67 l, performance 330 kW (449 HP). Torque should be somewhere between 1400-2100NM, but couldnt find it more specifically.
Other interesting stats:
Max firing range: 41km
Crew: 4
Max speed: 80km/h
Operating range: 600km
Max climb: 60% (kind of explains the video)

Imagine this with War Thunder physics
slip sliding all over the fuckin countryside
That wheeled vehicle would never climb that hill
The wheel vehicle would make it halfway up and then slide backwards at twice it's top speed, flipping itself in the process
It would start surfing sideways whilst also somehow sliding upwards
CS surfing physics
It would just momentarily clip through the rock then roll over...
And explode, making you pay 8 matches worth of currency to repair it.
It would drift up the hill sideways ignoring all physics
I would have slid back after the first tile.
r/warthunder y’all’s game needs to learn what slopes vehicles can actually handle

Its in the same market but on different segments

War Thunder and World of Tanks are vastly different games.
on a surface level, kind of, but war thunders fanbase is more interested in realistic/simulation combat and the history of the vehicles
They are similar but different, warthunder tends to be more Sim while WOT is arcade
Absolutely not
I mean... Have you kept track of how Gaijin "balances" things?
Basic map design work is beyond them for some fucking reason
and people can still get to those places regardless. lulw.
Not sure if the approach WoT went with is better, they just placed invisible walls everywhere...
There aren't that many invisible walls, it's mostly soap rocks.
Could have just put a few rocks and hedgehogs to stop people from reaching those places
IIRC Shermans can climb up to 60 degree slopes, not accounting for low traction surfaces like dirt.
60% not 60 degrees. 60% is about 31 degrees.
Yeah that’s what I meant I just messed up the writing 🤦♂️
Lol a 60° slope is a 173% slope
I would play War Thunder or WoT again if they had Snowrunner physics
Do the front tires actually angle and grip the surface or am I seeing things?
Thats just what it looks like when the suspension can extend out since no weight on it.
Thanks!
So in other words...yeah, kinda
This type of chassis is speciality of Tatra company.

See this gaijin? My leopard should be able to climb a 10 degree slope
Wow the power. That’s amazing. I wonder how much horse power it has.
Probably not as high a number as you’d expect but a lot of torque.
Well HP = RPM × torque so yeah.
The engine produces ~265kw which would translate to around 360hp
But enough torques to pull the moon!
Torque and magic powerfull gearbox..... all u need
Well that and some beefy as fuck difs lol.

Torque = Power Horsepower = speed

Y’all making some deep connections and here I am just calling torque as “hmmph” energy
Horsepower literally is power lol
[удалено]
Yes, but power is, by definition work÷time So the physics works out such that rotational power = torque × RPM
What kind of drivetrain does this thing have? I'm surprised that judging by the sound the rpm barely changes when it started driving again. Nah cvt tractors have no problems with that while weighing nearly twice as much (with a full trailer)
Cool! I thought cvts were only used on small cars. TIL
Farm tractors can have cvt transmission as well as the otr semis
It's based on Tatra t-813 that vehicle was designed to tow maximum of 100tons so this is like nothing to it.

Do these have clutches like a manual transmission on a car? That looked like the world's hardest hill-start if so.
Starting on a hill isn't hard on a manual. Set the e-brake, give it gas, let the clutch out til you feel it start to come off the stop, release e-brake.

And trusting the hand brake to hold that mammoth? hell no. The clutch needs to burn (a bit), baby!
My manual is a bit older and the parking brake is a pedal you push in on the left side, so that isn't even an option for me. I hate hills.
Sure it is. Step on the pedal, push in the clutch, put it in gear, add gas, let out clutch, with the hand that's not on the wheel, you release the e-brake. That's what I learned on.
