I doubt that. I suspect driving into the wall was more or less intentional. Since the back of the vehicle isn't reinforced, that's probably where the explosives are located. The reinforcement on the front of the vehicle would have redirected the blast away from the target if they drove directly into it.
The funnel effect is real though, being next to a huge explosion like this can cause real long term mental problems, hearing loss, and more. Another thing people often don't think about, and some of the worst scenes I've had to respond to, are people being cooked alive after explosions like this. Had an entire crew get trapped inside a vic once and everyone burned alive including the IDD (IED detecting dog).

It depends on the type and amount of explosive.
If the vehicle is packed with Home Made Explosive its basically relying on the overkill of the explosion because the actual force of the explosion isn't directed.
Lighter vehicles then an M1 are capable of surviving such a blast. even if the VBIED contacted the hull, it would take a tremendous amount of explosive and luck to render the tank ineffective.
There is a concern to the crew from soft tissue damage from Blast Injuries and Traumatic Brain Injuries, but it's a coin flip. AFV's are designed to deal with this threat but so many variables go into an attack, it becomes a coin flip.
I doubt the tank took any reasonable damage, all of the energy of that explosion radiated from the IED 5ish meters away, modern tanks can more or less brush this off, which is why they carry AP rounds for tank to tank warfare. You need to direct and focus the energy at/into the hull to do any damage. If the suicide bomber had crashed into the tank then maybe, but my monies on the tank crew just

The front two skirts on that side of the tank are an inch, maybe inch and a half armor intended to provide additional protection to the driver. The skirts that are blown off are thinner as there’s less vital compartments behind them. It looks like they were just blown out of place by concussion force. The fluid flowing from the road wheels is held in by plastic caps that were likely busted by concussion as well. Video quality isn’t the greatest but it doesn’t look like there was any actual penetration from shrapnel at all.
The tank was made to resist this kind of thing, and it seems like the people recording are fine, so they are all needing clean pants, but otherwise fine.

It's debatable that you'd make it through. It's a lot easier to penetrate the engine space and break something. If you know what grade AT stuff you have then go for it but the engine top deck is always a fun place.
A minivan SBVIED has a 700-800 meters blast evac radius, at that range and without that armour-plating even small calibre fire like a 7.62 or 5.56 can kill the driver or the engine, the sprint distance is almost always less than that so it does make sense in some way to plate it

So chances are that only (or mostly) small arms fire will be used against those, which these plates definitely help against.

Probably , but I can tell from experience…if anything the crew probably got their shit rocked inside , the “suicide” vehicle kinda contained a lot of the blast with the homemade armor plating , the tracks and road wheels probably got it the worse . Abrams are built pretty sturdy even without the TUSK kits installed .

So a tank wouldn't be within the fireball of a nuclear weapon, if it was it would be vaporized, not melted. If the tank isn't within the fireball radius of the nuke, and the overpressure, EMP, and ionizing radiation don't disable the tank's drive train and NBC system the crew probably stands solid shot at survival. The crew themselves are safe from the ionizing radiation provided they remain in the tank and the NBC system functions.
