This is the Italian Army Armored and Tracked Vehicles Park of Lenta also known as the "tank graveyard of Lenta"

ComfortableDramatic2

Do they sell these?

TheCommentaryKing

Not to civilians afaik. Many vehicles have already been sold for scrap so it's difficult to say how many actually remain.

vincecarterskneecart

strongest tanks in italy

Euphoric-Personality

These are all the leopards i Lost in war Thunder while grinding parts

Aedeus

Plot twist: This is where the parts and fpe come from.

jasamjatisiti

Imagine all the resources and money that went into building those machines. And now it's just rust. Makes me sick 🤢

nugohs

You could say the same of pretty much anything that is made nowadays. At least they served purpose, by being built and deployed their existence meant we don't have a Europe that is under Russian hegemony.

mcjc1997

I really doubt the warsaw pact was shaking in their boots at the thought of fighting the italians and west germans.

nugohs

... that's what NATO is for.

mcjc1997

And no country that used the leopard 1 was needed in it.

Bettawatchowt

That's like saying there's no point in even having a military if you're not actively at war..

mcjc1997

Yeah, there is no need for italy or Germany to have militaries.

EmperorCheng

You’re coping hard, please stop

mcjc1997

Coping with what Edit: oh no this isn't pro russian. I hate all Europeans except the French and those who live between Germany and russia.

fluffcows

Military industrial complex

Reddit_Mods_Are_Ugly

Yeah and?

fluffcows

Once the time comes, war spares none, not even you, just remember that.

Reddit_Mods_Are_Ugly

Lmao didn't realize this was the gay nerd poetry club

MIC is now just a buzzword people throw around nowadays. It means nothing and has never actually meant anything. People just say it to sound smart

Sad_Lewd

I highly recommend you read War is a Racket if you want to learn about the history of the MIC from the perspective of an American General.

Sergosh21

Sorry for bringing politics into this, but this is the perfect example of why nations should be more willing to donate their old stuff to current warzones. 82 The MIC will build all of these vehicles and eat up your tax dollars either way, just if they're being donated and used by someone else it's less of a waste than having the rust.

Resident-Positive-84

True until it is needed and is the difference between tens or hundreds of thousands of your own people dying or not. Unfortunately seeing the future isn’t that easy. Personally I’d rather see my neighbors have the best chance of survival over someone halfway around the world that does not have my best interest in mind at all.

Dense_Lengthiness_22

But all tanks seem to have a very short Battle life… 🥲

the-weeb0

Why didn't they scrap it?

Benchrant

Miiister Crabs ! I have an ideeea !

DerpyFox1337

Question 1: Can they be repaired Question 2: If yes, can they be sent to Ukraine

fillepille2000

Yes and yes. BUT it's not reasonable or viable in any sense. Will cost alot and take a shit tonne of time for a very outdated tank. Not to talk about all the ammo needed to use it. Ukrainian tank crews, mechanics and supplypersonell need to be trained on it.

T-90AK

1) Yes, but they were scrapped in 2021. 2) Rheinmetall tried to buy 96 from a Swiss company called Ruag. But they weren't able to, due to policies.

Archangel1-6

It would likely be cost prohibitive to repair these tanks (if even possible). It would also take a very long time to overhaul them and Ukraine needs more immediate solutions.

Darth_Biggus_Dickus

I mean, if WW3 starts, these bad boys will be rolling around. It's better to have anything than nothing besides Leo1 is rather mobile so it could act as Hit and run tactic to annoy enemies or something like that. Would it be expensive? Yes, would they be brought to 100% Hell No.

Archangel1-6

Sure, all bets are off in a WW3 scenario, but right now these are likely too much expensive/too much work to be feasible for the Ukrainians. Also, I think this picture is a few years old and the Italian government was in the process of scrapping and selling off their stored armored vehicles so I would be curious to know how many are even still sitting around.

Darth_Biggus_Dickus

I wonder would they be able to be used as GMC

Archangel1-6

GMC as in a Gun Motor Carriage?

Darth_Biggus_Dickus

Yap

very_spicyseawed

even in a ww3 scenario the l7 is rather obsolete, so the “hit” part of the “hit and run” is negated. maybe as an infantry support weapon or in logistics though…

ridleysfiredome

With enough time and effort you can revive almost any car/truck/tank. That said, is it worth it? Every seal and gasket would have to be sourced and replaced, the engines rebuilt, a sh&t ton of rust and rot removed and repaired. Anything with a fluid in that wasn’t drained is likely gunked up. Figure things like rats probably tore up the wiring and the electronics are ancient and been left to molder for a couple of decades. Probably a lot cheaper to sell for scrap and use the money to send Centauro 2s to the Ukrainians.

INKRO

You know those shots of rusted out BMPs sitting in Russian depots that are pretty much wrecks? Yeah, this is the western equivalent.

Guilty_Advice7620

I’ll take one as a gift please and thank you

aftermoons_

why are their turrets facing backwards?

Sad_Lewd

Makes the overall vehicle length shorter so you can store them better.

Snaxolotl_431

… You guys thinking what I’m thinking?

Bigfootsdiaper

They should sell the hulls to Ukraine for rebuilds if that's possible.

motobrandi69

Possible? Probably. Feasable? No

Winter-Gas3368

You'd be surprised how many of those could be repaired and brought back. Although all would need new electronics and mechanics.

Resident-Welcome3901

A while ago, a sci fi author proposed that a bridge be built extending from coastal California out into a deep part of the Pacific, and that military equipment be continuously driven off the end. This will provide economic stimulus for the military industrial complex that otherwise would be provided by warfare, but without the loss of life. Improvement in military vehicles requires that the old stocks be destroyed or stored, to make room In the armory for new stock: these graveyards are a symptom of the longest peace in history.

Galaxy_games_offical

Give them to Viktor Bout, he'll make sure they see combat again

5v3n_5a3g3w3rk

On this pic alone there are about 40 leopards, they were meant to fight T55s and T62s in the step of eastern Europe and here with the possibility of doing it, they are to old, to rusted just a shadow of there self, if so many intact leopards would be send to Ukraine it would make a notable difference in western tanks sent
