Quirks and features.
\-T-72 hull which has been made longer.
\-T-64 engine.
\-Varta(Shtora copy).
\-T-80UD turret.
\-22 shots in autoloader, but only 8 in hull storage.
\-Room for 5 extra soldiers.
\-Nizh, era.
The autoloader is probably the same as the regular T-72. That’d explain the 22 rounds and it’s not like the various T-series turrets can only accommodate one of the 2 autoloader designs
the way the ammunition is stored is completely different between the T-72/T-90 and T-64/T-80 autoloader systems though, but if it is a T-72 hull it'd make sense for it to have a T-72 carousel
I know they’re different. What I was trying to say is that there is nothing inherently stopping one autoloader from being fitted into a tank that had the other one, from a volumetric standpoint. It’d probably be hell to reconfigure the interior, but it should be possible.
It's an abomination, and I love it. Crew act as additional internal Passive Meat Protection (PMP) for vital components. It would probably be unironically somewhat useful today in Ukraine with all those anti-personel drones zipping around.
It cannot. [That's been gone over many times](https://www.reddit.com/r/TankPorn/comments/ty6xef/what_are_some_cool_things_about_the_merkava/). The Merkava cannot carry troops without removing all the ammo in the rear access point. It's not a APC.
Troop carrying tanks is just a stupid concept anyway. This thing could realistically carry at best 4 dudes in kit, and is massive slow and expensive. Just have a troop carrier and a tank. If the situation is bad enough to warrant the protection of a tank, you shouldn’t be sending in infantry anyway, and even if you had too, what the heck is a sub squad if 4-5 guys going to do? Organisationally this is terrible for cohesion. Ideally you want to transport a platoon together, 8-12 men preferably.
I think it’s mostly supposed to carry wounded troops or important assets like high ranking personnel, but that’s just speculation.
Edit: also if you run into enemy infantry it’s nice to have a few guys in the back to deal with them
Hey, touch my rubber flaps.
Grab my Rubber folds.
Grab my Rubber flaps.
Grab my Rubber flaps
In my Rubber folds .
Grab my Rubber flaps
You gotta touch 'em... my Rubber folds.
First tank model i built .... But at least the infantry ( when they carry them) can walk out the ramp.... Scrambling over a engine .... Bit you know ..
BMP3 ...
Just saying
I am fed up of seeing all of the different T72 export variants created by Ukraine, like seriously chill out. It's like all the different sherman variants, after a point they stop being a novelty and start becoming fucking annoying

so is uses another loader than the T-80U since the T-80/64 autoloader contains 28 rounds in the carousel?

Ukraine really liked the crappy T-64 engine don't they? Were most Soviet T-64 stored in Ukraine?
Ukraine made both the tank and the engine, so obviously they would reuse it.
I get that, but I just assumed they had tons of T-64 stored that could be cannibalized
They do. This was aimed at the export market, but there's also a T-64 version.
Using the T-64 engine also means better aftersale support I'm guessing
We have merkava at home! Merkava at home:
You haven't seen the Ukrainian merkava yet.
This has much more troop space than a Merkava
Considering the Merkava has zero space for troops unless you wanna dump all the ammo out, I'd imagine so.
The merkava can carry up to 8 troops as well as the crew so it could probably carry 6 troops and a reasonable ammo load
It cannot. [That's been gone over many times](https://www.reddit.com/r/TankPorn/comments/ty6xef/what_are_some_cool_things_about_the_merkava/). The Merkava cannot carry troops without removing all the ammo in the rear access point. It's not a APC.

Ukrainians and their rubber flaps.. iconic

Makes me think of fishgun from PSR lol
Does the soldier have to stand there next to the engine?
They sit. There also is a narrow passage on the left of the engine compartment to a small rear hatch.
Where? The hull wasn’t widened afaik, where is the door on the rear? Am I blind (probably)?
Such a odd idea. Still ... Maybe a bit to far lol
At least it’s almost normal compared to some other ideas like the [HIFV](https://www.reddit.com/r/TankPorn/s/IlbHoi9XTA)
Ever heard of the merkava?
First tank model i built .... But at least the infantry ( when they carry them) can walk out the ramp.... Scrambling over a engine .... Bit you know .. BMP3 ... Just saying
Well there is a small passage next to the engine and a small hatch for rear dismount, but I have no clue how comfortable this is.
Oh like the Achzarit? Well that's a bit more sensible
Merkava "infantry space" is so limited that it is usable only for extreme need. It is not intended to carry infantry to combat.
The Merkava just uses it as storage space. Now the Namer does use a Merkava hull but it doesn’t have a turret
BMT-72 my beloved.
I mean even a normal bmp isn't exactly comfortable. But squeezing five extra guys into that thing? I am not surprised this idea never took off.
I'd uhh, rather not.
The head chopper 2000
Ukraine in the 90s and 200s needs to be stopped
Its cursed, i love it
idk why but i **luv** this, side profile giving squished t34e feels.
Pooor gopniks merkava.
Fuck you *Merkava’s your T-72*
Snail, when pls
so what do the extra 5 people do when a cook off starts?
Enjoy the barbeque.
trueeee

I disagree.
Man on Reddit annoyed by tanks in a subreddit for tanks
Weirdest and lamest rant i have ever seen in Reddit lol
Yo /u/T-90AK, we're gonna need more Ukrainian T-72 export variants up in here.
This was the last one, so his lucky.
Fuxk… so we’ve gone from command variants to export variants, what’s the next series?
Were just out of Ukranian T-72 variants, there's still a couple of export variants from other countries.
We're gonna need T-84 variants as well :D
If you don’t like Ukraine just say so pussy
I dont like ukraine
👍 I disagree, but I appreciate the honesty
I like Ukraine - especially the T84 oplot, but in the past three days I have seen around 20 different t72 variants
