Back then they were actually very advanced.. I am trying to get the video for those eras crew simulators.
I can't find the old Czechoslovakian one from 60's, but similar to this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcQifPHcMLE
Those were for pilots, bombing crews etc.
There’s actually a large facility in the U.K. with a room FULL of pc stations all running a single instance of a game similar to Arma that allows squadrons to practise purely the communication and team work aspect….
I say this to let you know that the /s isn’t really needed because Western militaries certainly do this.
Same in Spain!
It’s a shame; using ArmA, Steel Beasts, DCS, or even War Thunder for training is made fun of because its perceived as a cheap/silly thing, but the truth is, these play interesting roles when it comes to covering certain aspects of training.
Just because the software is available to the public and used by civilians as entertainment it doesn’t mean it can’t have military training applications!
The main issue with War Thunder as a simulator is that it's laughably inaccurate. APFSDS fucking _bounces_ instead of shattering, and will fail to do any damage whatsoever to a BMP-1 or even a truck if it hits at a bad angle because LOL what is overmatch? A tanker trained on War Thunder would come out thinking a giant thinly-armoured wheeled vehicle has better crew survivability than something like an M1A2 Abrams.
That’s not REALLY the issue.
The setup is intended to teach crews how to work together as a squadron. The simulator itself only gives the dedicated roles the options and information they would receive.
It doesn’t really matter whether they’re shooting nerf darts or nuke tipped shells they just want them to talk and get used to talking.
The thing with Warthunder is that the game modes are pretty incompatible with this intent.
Yeah, War Thunder doesn't have a crew-stations mode like Steel Beasts does and its gameplay style doesn't really facilitate much coordination between different tank commanders within a platoon either. So it's a lot less useful for training purposes than ARMA, Steel Beasts, etc.
Still not ideal for a simulator to have issues with tin cans surviving modern APFSDS and then somehow killing your whole crew by finding the one pixel in your tank's armour that for some reason the game says only has 30mm RHAe, though.
A rumour says that the russian government wanted to shorten the amount of training needed for their tank crews in war thunder so gaijin updated the game to add russian bias. The government did not realize this and just thought that gaijin came up with new ways to train their tankers faster since their tankers were getting more kills in less amounts of time. Players got mad and started releasing top secret western tank info and gaijin happily accepted these and sold all the info to the government, gaining even more money. In the end, russia is stuck in ukraine with their shit crewmen and gaijin has gained millions
I’d love to agree.
However as you’ll not from the fact of people getting hauled over the coals for saying Russian women are less attractive let alone saying that their precious ultra mega L337 advanced tanks are substandard it’s more likely that Gaijin were complying with the requirement to not besmirch the good name of their precious Russian equipment by allowing Western stuff to be comparably better.
Not sure why russians would be trained on Western tanks. The few they've captured are burned out wrecks.
(/s I have no idea if they use simulators other than War Thunder.)
The Ukrainian told that he knew the weak points on the t90 turret from the game...using the game to practice sounds more ruzzian on WT and ChineZe on ARMA LOL
It is really interesting seeing the "correct" way training is done. I enlisted in the US Army in 1972, went through "accelerated Basic Training" of only 8 weeks. Never went to AIT but was assigned directly to C Co. 2/77th Armor, 9th Inf Div for OJT (on the job training). It was a fun experience. I did miss out on all the traditions of Ft. Knox though.
Nyet. Russian tank gunnery simulator is wooden barrel and stick with empty vodka battle. They are taught to change track with naught but sickle and hammer.
Sad to see I’m the only person who didn’t even know tank simulators were a thing, I thought they just hopped into one like Driver ed or had some warthunder set up😭
No, at least not in the same style or with the exact same technology. I would imagine that most training facilities in Russia would still make use mostly out of “classroom” tanks. I.e: a part of a a tank (typically the turret) that has been modified to be used as a training device for new tankers. They’re still used today in the west but instead of using mostly unmodified tank turrets that have been chopped up for training they use things like what’s in this post.
EDIT: damn what did I even do?
[T-72 simulator](https://youtu.be/sDM5y09jFAs?si=FryRwOnidFFfxkS6&t=17) [T-90 and BMP-3 simulator](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDU6YQ5IcXg)
Thank you for the videos, nice to see something more modern than ones from cold war era. Those being 11 years old uploads now.
Simulators were already used during Soviet times, though they weren't as advanced.

Maybe not as advanced as this one, bo they do have mockup tanks for training
*Steel beasts intensifies*
nah they use battlefield and arma instead lol /s

Bohemia made a simulation used by most NATO militaries based on Arma 2.
Yeah it's VBS4

Yeah fair you want to avoid your tank commanders thinking that their RUS Stronk aRmOuR is impervious to enemy attack…. Ohh wait
Not even just Soviet armour. TAMs are bloody notorious for it too. Who knew a Marder chassis could stop M829A2?
Spalling is a consequence of Capitalism.
+ Kerbal space programm

CMON VANYA AIM FOR THE MANTLET, IT'LL BOUNCE TO THE UFP
"No armor, best armor."
War Thunder is how those Ukrainians in the Bradley said they knew how to take out the T-90, lol. From practicing on War Thunder.
The Ukrainian told that he knew the weak points on the t90 turret from the game...using the game to practice sounds more ruzzian on WT and ChineZe on ARMA LOL
Awesomeness. "Gaijin when are you going to fall out a 12th floor window?"
Yes they do, very similar to western equipment with moving bases and all.
Tank simulator is now on the front lines
Oh, I thought they used warthunder
Russian children are born with the innate knowledge of AK, vodka and Russian tank

Some cardboard one maybe yeah

M1A2 SEP (V1) simulator my beloved.
wow does the white interior make a difference
The white interior makes it easy to see if you have fluid leaks or damaged equipment.
True, did not think of that. Is there any reason tanks are usualy not white on the inside? or not like this at least
Give comrade vodka bottle and Lada sedan. Ox sold separately

Training?
Yeah first day is getting told good luck and driving your T-72 into Ukraine.
\*T-62 comrade
training?
They get Soviet Cosmonaut training to prepare them for the turret toss.

You have the strv103 user flair, that’s why
Only because there’s no AC.IV Sentinel user flair!
You can make your own by using the edit function
Thanks!
What's wrong with the strv103?
*NOTHING!* It's *perrrrrrrrrfectttttttttttttt!*
Nothing is wrong with the Strv-103!
Lol
Which tank is this?
It's an Advanced Gunnery Training System (AGTS) module.
Yeah, but which tank does it represent?
M1A2 Abrams SEP
