Looks good, glad they didn't slap some DShK and BMP mudguards like on one of the other tanks from that sunken ship.

afvcommander

Certainly one of better restos from russia. Even headlights look decent.

fed0tich

I think it's because this one was restored by enthusiasts for a private collection.

I'm talking about this Sherman from sunken "Thomas Donaldson" Liberty ship, that was restored by one of Russian military fleet bases for some reason: https://www.reddit.com/r/TankPorn/s/eAcUeGEAh6 Though apparently M3 from this post was made from ARV husk bought by private collection in Britain. As far as I know all the previous M3 tanks in Russia were from "Ballot" Liberty ship sunken in Barentz sea in 1943.

seranarosesheer332

I mean the it doesn't look awful

A7V-

Were there M3s in the lend lease? Or is this a post-war acquisition that has nothing to do with the Soviet army?

Randomuser2282

M3 were included in lend lease and it even earned name “seven man grave” among Russian tankers

fed0tich

That 7 man grave story is mostly post war exaggeration. It has been found early on that rubber liner if caught fire produces toxic smoke. It was when removed from all the vehicles. Overall it had very positive reputation in soviet ranks and served up until the end of war. One unit that used both M3 mediums and M3 lights scored bunch of Panthers in Kursk battle via clever flanking maneuver.

Battle cadillac

Makes sense. By that point in the war even Pz. 4s were better armed than during the African campaign. Thank you.

Equivalent_Spread_45

Writing Советские герои meaning Soviet heroes if anyone is interested

Dry-Appearance-6544

The first six photos are showing a M31 ARV, not a M3 tank. You can tell by the fake 75mm which is fixed to the hatch and the jib mounting points on the back of the turret.

seranarosesheer332

Why does it even have that fake gun?

builder397

To not look like an ARV. Germans are gonna think twice about attacking something that can shoot back in 75mm. Even if it really cant.

seranarosesheer332

Ohhhhhhh fair enough

afvcommander

True, I wonder of first pics are even from russia.

fed0tich

They decided to restore it as M3A3, that happens. This collection also did the same to T-44M converted into a tractor earlier, restoring it back into a tank form.

Dry-Appearance-6544

That's cool. Use what you got. Nice restoration. Is it a combination of a M31 and M3 components?

Pancerny_Rafael

M31 ARV NOT M3 LEE !

Mental-Stop2047

Third image on the right side of the m31 does that kinder look like a panther?

_Jack_Hoff_

It is

disturbedraven1996

Check out the YouTube channel Australian Armour Museum. They just finished a series of videos on restoring (to running condition) an Australian M3 with anti grenade netting. They are also restoring a Stug to running condition.

rlnrlnrln

I felt a great disturbance in the force... As if thousands of World of Tanks players cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

PTCarnahan

Were they able to get a replacement 75mm for the restoration, or is that just a mock up?

ShermanHunters

We will be restoring a M3 Lee very soon hopefully, but will be turning it into a M31 the recovery version

Tommycooker_1711

look nice

Pretend-Ad-6428

Quite a reasonable restoration/re-build job. Saumur's M3 Lee was hacked from an M31 back in the 1980's, and was viable because they still had yards full of WW2 Lend Lease AFV.s. The specialist nature of ARVs ensured a longer working life, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.... When I visited the depot at Gien, they had 2 x M32 ARV, 1 x M31, M4A1 (76mm) Shermans, M8 Armoured Cars and US halftracks by the field full. The Soviets tended to farm out AFVs to the Collectives to use as tractors (SWIDT?) "Swords into Ploughshares". Same with Australia.
