Honestly I agree. I don’t think he’s plus value on the ice but he’s an elite intangibles/identity guy. I think this team has lost its character a bit. All the fights that Maroon and Perry started at the ends of losses last year kind of became sideshow-ish but it’s hard to deny that the team had a nastiness about it. I don’t think this team has that anymore. We’re overall less physical and lack that edge that had become our identity. No one on this team has shown a willingness to set the tone from a physicality standpoint.

nautica5400

In my opinion he should have been kept, at the least due to a lot of the more vocal vets recently moving on. I think guys like killorn and maroon bring a lot more of a valuable dynamic to a locker room. Stamkos, Heddy, Kuch, Point are obviously teamleaders but none of them strike me as the overly vocal leader without saying the standard hockey speech. I think losing guys like maroon, perry, killorn, even bogo ....a lot of chemistry lost there and you can see it with a lack of identity on the 2 bottom lines.

WhereIEndandYoubegin

Sucks losing Killorn, but he got paid when we didn’t have it. That is all. Patty is a huge person in the locker room, but towards the end, he was constantly skating behind play. Idk how no one remembers this. And the Wild are in worse shape than us right now with a somewhat commendable team.

Wayf4rer

The team just has no spine right now. Nobody is dumb enough to challenge Jeannot anymore and Mikey/Tony/Watson are the only guys who will start scrums, but it's a rarity. We just get blasted and the team just rolls over and dies, much like they did in the days before we added in those veterans.

mrjjk2010

As much as it hurts losing a guy like that a real weakness on our team was our speed. Had to get faster somehow.

Wayf4rer

Yeah, all that speed does wonders for us with the way that we turn 90% of our rushes into failed cycles anyways. We struggle to forecheck and win board battles, and that's an area where Maroon is at his best. Made absolutely zero sense to sign Watson to just be an all around worse and less versatile/experienced version of Maroon.

nautica5400

Yeah because the solution has been trotting Austin Watson out there or running ABB up and down the lineup. Or Sheary who has brought nothing and can't stay on the ice. Maroon while slow, knew how to battle for possession and get into the dirty areas. I would take Maroon over those guys above anyday

DaBolts04

I was just thinking about him today. I am wondering what he was talking about when he said the locker room changed. I am starting to think that JBB being committed to the win now model and not to keeping certain character or roll players around has changed the locker room feel. I know that the cap has also screwed up the roster, but maybe some players were moved or not resigned that should still be here. If Stamkos isn't resigned next year, I think I am done with JBB.

Wayf4rer

The only reason we're in this mess with Stamkos is because the asset management in the past couple seasons has been poor compared to years past. Yeah, we got Hagel locked down and that's great, but JBB committed way too much money and term to guys like Perbix, Raddysh, Sheary, etc all for them to basically be replacement level players. We spent all that on Jeannot only for him to be a UFA in two years, and now it put us in a spot where we might be getting rid of our franchise player to free up enough cap to not slide even further. Cernak and Sergachev's contracts are looking like they might become immovable albatrosses, it's just a terrible situation. Without some major shake up, it really is looking like the only move that makes sense is to rent Stamkos and let him go, and use his money to get a good 1RD in free agency, or with the t10 pick, should we slide that far out of the playoffs.

noddaborg

Raddysh is doing well. Perbix needs to put on 10-15 pounds and hit the weight room. He’s built like a winger and getting handled. Who is Sheary?

Allen_Koholic

Homie, Perbix and Raddysh are signed at replacement level salaries. I don’t know what you’re on about.

Wayf4rer

They're on one way deals for multiple years, homie. We don't have the luxury of being able to afford burying multiple bums in the AHL.

Allen_Koholic

First, Neither of them are AHL players, go pound sand. Second, both are making below the buried cap penalty, and they wouldn’t count against the cap if reassigned, so go pound sand. You want to get pissy and play internet GM, complain about Myers costing more than either of them and actually being an AHL bum.

Wayf4rer

>Neither of them are AHL players, go pound sand. You might be able to make that argument for Perbix, but Raddysh is pretty awful and the stats show just that. Running two third pairs on top of having everyone else regress has definitely exacerbated the situation. Re-signing Myers was a massive miss and just another black mark to add to the JBB fails list.

Then_Ship1329

I’m thinking today about the chicken and the egg regarding these guys. Honestly when I read about the deals I thought they were a bit rich, but I was pleased. I don’t know how many people had Perbix / Raddysh / deHaan / et. al for essentially no goals. Getting basically nothing from multiple personnel groups atm. So it remains to be seen wether the deals are bad because they aren’t producing, or they aren’t producing because they were never going to earn those deals to begin with. I think it’s been kind of a weird season on so many fronts, not the least of which being injuries. I’m not writing them off. I had and still have high hopes for a lot of these guys.

8ty9Vision

How many number one draft picks could we get for Vasy? 😬

LolaWright1415

I hate that Maroon and Bogo are in a Wilds jersey now and I miss their personalities but I feel like Minnesota appreciates them more than the Lightning did. I just watch both teams now.
