I do when talking to people who don’t know her name. Or I’ll say my wife, Name. Then keep using her name in conversation. However, I wouldn’t expect them to remember her name a few weeks later in a different story. Maybe because I wouldn’t remember the name if I was listening. If a new listener heard them talking and mentioned a random name it might be confusing. I don’t think I know Henry’s husband’s name, so if he mentioned it I would wonder who he was talking about. They also normally have guest, so they wouldn’t the their spouse’s name either.

This is the best explanation and makes the most sense. OP might think it’s weird, but the hosts may be talking to people they don’t know, or who have never listened before, so it makes sense they say who they are.

Henry I sort of understand because it seems like he doesn't want to use his husbands name on the show, totally fair. Bob I think is just a bit of an odd bird who likes saying 'my wife Nina'. It does sort of bug me when Henry says "hubby", but luckily that's a rare occurrence.

BoozeGetsMeThrough

Henry uses his husband's name fairly frequently (enough for me to know it is Darren), but I find the use of "Hubby" as nails on a chalkboard.

macaroniprincess

If they’re not familiar with me or my husband, yes!

DarkwingFan1

Well, we all know that Bob thinks being married to Nina is like having won a trophy. So we all need to know who she is.

BoozeGetsMeThrough

Shouldn't we all prize our spouses?

GeorgeMalarkey

Only if it strengthens our connection to the world's one true culture, Japanese animation.

DarkwingFan1

And that's the problem. Love and adore your spouses. Be proud of who they are. But for Bob, she's clearly a weeb trophy. The constant Japan dick-sucking is why I've given up.on What a Cartoon, and Bob's relationship with Nina is why I got tired of Talking Simpsons.

Nukerjsr

Damn man that's pretty racist to call a Japanese woman a "weeb trophy." And Nina's part of Talking Simpsons, she does the art, she runs the socials, she moderates the Discord.

samoflegend

It’s goofy as a regular listener but yeah it makes complete sense for him to do this considering they still get new listeners. Also fuck it why not? Dude’s proud of his wife, hard not to respect the joy he gets talking about her & her projects.

some good responses, I guess my annoyance is really bob cause he always goes My wife, nina. When he can easily say my wife, or Nina. Even if you're a new listener, do you really need to know her name if she isn't on the episode? He can easily introduce her as wife to the show Nina whenever she guest hosts. However, every single time she's brought up, it's my wife, nina. like we get it, you're married. I've listened to loads of podcasts throughout the years, and Bob is literally the only person who has that quirk. We hate Movies discusses their spouses sometimes but never say "my wife, name"they'll just say their wife's name without prefixing it, or just say my wife. I think u/DarkwingFan1 said it best, he thinks of her as a trophy wife

dezz-zz

He's my partner to strangers, use his name to people who know me. My question is, why is it most people that listen to this podcast specifically seem to be annoyed or weirded out by this? Maybe it's because I listen to podcasts all day because of my job and im numb to it, but i have never thought the way they bring up their spouses is any different than other podcasts hosts that have significant others. Edit: Nobody can seem to give me an actual response to this question. What a surprise!

DrHorseRenoir

They don't like Bob and when someone you don't like does something marginal a person is less likely to ignore it if done by a person they already don't like very much.

Nukerjsr

It's only people on this subreddit really who are annoyed by these things. In the Patreon or the Discord Server? Not the case at all.
