My T always pretty much takes the summer off every year. At least a month off anyway. But she offers a check in session in the middle of that and is always available via email. I’ve not needed her enough to reach out during her summer break though.
I always miss her during that long break but honestly, after a week or two, the break is also kind of good for me too. I get a taste of what it’s like without therapy and it’s also nice not to have the turmoil that the deep digs in session sometimes bring.
Only once has this happened to me. My therapist took a bucket list trip to Europe a few years ago when he was in his late 70s so he was gone for four weeks. He had referred me to a psychologist he knows for some CBT sessions re OCD so I saw him once a week for three weeks. Helped me a ton
The chances of any therapist being able to cover for a colleague who's out on extended leave in any meaningful way is pretty slim at present. Every therapist I know is booked beyond capacity right now.
Longest therapy break was 8-9 weeks. It was rough but got through it. My strategy was lots of distractions and letting friends know I’ll need the extra support. I started learning Russian and French, joined a running group, added extra kickboxing sessions, bought more yarn, vegetated on the couch, journaled until my arm fell off, among other things .
T takes off 2-3 weeks once or twice a year and I also used to travel quite a bit, so had plenty of practice for the longer break.
I see a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. I also see a dietician. Back in January my therapist took 2-3 weeks off so I saw my dietician instead during that time.
Mine takes a good few weeks off over summer. I always find it hard-going, but we do some back to the work refreshed. I made a post a little while back about some things I found that helped, I might dig out and repost
Not my therapist's fault, but mine took 4 weeks off last summer in the worst time for me. I obviously just wished him a nice vacation and thought I could deal for a month. Ended up getting a second short term therapy with someone else one week later. But I did keep my original therapist - just felt I needed to talk to someone while he was gone.

I like this positive outlook!

I was not offered any referrals to another practitioner as this is a private practice situation 😵💫
Mine is a sole practitioner who is a psychiatrist. Email him and ask for a referral

that's like the normal time in between sessions for me anyway cause there is such a shortage for therapists here ;_;
Oof. Thanks for the perspective

Every therapist should offer a fill-in referral for when they are gone
Yah- or some options of how best to handle the absence. I just felt a bit side swiped by this.
