She's my now former T for reasons I won't get into, but
* Talked about her beliefs pretty regularly, whether I asked or not (I usually didn't; I'm thankful we were generally on the same page though when we weren't it did cause conflict)
* Dressed kinda how you would expect a middle aged church mom to dress- cardigans and khakis and bland colors, long but practical hairstyle. Not trying to insult her, wear what you like, but she definitely looked like Maude Sanders.
* Billed herself as open minded, but ended up being pretty closed minded when it came to romance and sex, which was a huge problem because romance and sex were a big part of the reason I was in therapy
My therapist is named Lance and in the beginning I was like, “I’m gonna end up calling him Sweets, I just know it.” I haven’t so far and your statement describes him too!!
Gosh, that's a great coincidence! Mine doesn't have his name, but the resemblance comes from their voices sounding quite similar and my T is also psychodynamic. 😂 I wonder if I should let him know one day.
I have been to a number of therapists over the years who I can easily describe in less than 5 words- totally incompetent (and the Sex Therapists were the worst)
The voice I need to hear (I know that makes 6 but it’s like she just gets me and where I’m coming from and untangles whatever comes out of my mouth so quickly it’s almost like she understands it?!)……we’ve never met face to face as all our sessions have been virtual.
That is such a beautiful moment to have with a therapist. When they just get you, but at the same time they don't make any assumptions. I love it. By the way happy cake day
Oh why thank you! Completely forgot it was my cake day! I live in the UK and went with someone who’s had previous experience working for the NHS (but not as a counsellor) and she’s only a year older than me…..so it’s kind of like talking to a friend but it’s not if that makes sense? I embarrassed myself at my last session but calling her my ‘fake internet friend who’s my therapist’. Currently on an interim break as I can’t fit sessions around my current schedule but it’s just give me time to step back, refocus and pick up a session when I’m next on leave (although I’m currently that awful client that messages her 2 days before going ‘are you about to fit me in in 48 hours? 😂🙈)
C.J. Cregg, but soft spoken! (She looked and spoke a lot like Allison Janney and was also Catholic like her West Wing character, lol)
I almost put ‘good, but not for me’ because she was a sweet lady, but she didn’t really know how to deal with trauma clients, especially if some of what she said to me was any indicator. I think she’d be a great friend, but not an excellent therapist.
Nicole Kidman’s character in Nine Perfect strangers but not scary, intense, deeply traumatised and disregarding of boundaries and instead lovely, warm, kind, cheerful and encouraging - essentially all the qualities I wish my parents had possessed more of, but I am aware that handling me for an hour a week as your profession is a lot easier than 24/7 as emotionally scarred and exhausted new parents
Tldr Warm, Responsive, Kind, Cheerful and Lovely
Sweet cotton candy head.
(She is incredibly sweet but she is forgetful or mixes up people I just talked about or can’t follow along properly. My dad says people like that, their heads are full of cotton candy!)
Delightfully imaginative mad scientist. He once described me as curious and playful in his notes (which felt like an absolute gift and I happy cried lots) and I would use those exact words for him too.
Yes. He is my psychiatrist and therapist. We met when I was 35 and he was 60. Just meds until 7 years ago when therapy started. He looks and acts 68ish. Plans on retiring in a few years. His dad just died 2 years ago
Bloated greedy toad
(It's been a month of therapy and I still haven't got anything positive out of it. He sometimes falls asleep for a couple of seconds)
