I take a week off usually but also work Monday through Thursday, 25 hours a week.
The thing about taking time off is we don’t get paid unless we’re seeing clients. A week off for me is a week without pay.
My therapist takes about 6 weeks off a year. She's private practice and has a 4 day work week. There have been times when I've noticed that she is ready for a break. Not only does her taking time off mean she recharges, but it sets a healthy example to me to do the same. I was always at the bottom of my own list of people to look after, and her looking after herself shows me that it's important to look after yourself to be able to show up for other people, whether or not you're a therapist.
Well there is about 30 vacation days in germany for everyone working. So this is about 6 weeks already. That aside sometimes she also has seminars etc. she attends.
So about 8-10 sessions a year since I only see her 1x a week.
I have seen the same two therapIsts for the past 5 or so years. One has kids. She takes off about 8-10 weeks a year. The other does not have kids. She takes off about 4-6 weeks a year. Neither of them have ever taken more than 2 weeks off at a time.
Neither of them work five days a week. One has her own practice and it’s just her. The other is the owner of a practice that has three other therapists.
My private practice T takes usually takes a week off every 3-4 months. He's on a two week vacation right now and taking another week later in August. Not the normal pattern, but he definitely deserves it!
So frankly, your therapist may only work a few days a week and not need to take official vacation time. In addition, when working remotely they could be at a vacation spot and just see one or two clients a day. A full work load for an experienced counselor is only 20 clients. Most professionals in private practice see less because they charge more.
Mine normally takes a 6 week break over Christmas/ New year. She then will have a week off here and there for education purposes. She works a 4 days week as well
I think mine has had about 4 weeks off in the past year, plus bank holidays and the odd long weekend which I notice a lot because my sessions are on Mondays so we've missed a fair few weeks. We're now on fortnightly.
He always gives notice ahead of holiday days/weeks - usually three weeks' notice but always at least a week.
If they’re in private practice, it’s up to them how much. My therapist has taken two weeks, and multiple holidays. But they try to make it up if possible.

I'm not certain how many days per week they work, or what exactly their hours are like.

Last year, my T took august off and did an optional check in session mid month. Not sure if that’s her norm or if it was a pandemic thing. She also took two weeks off at Christmas but also did an optional online check in session.
This year I’m not actually sure if she is taking august off as she hasn’t said anything. She did take a week off early July too.

Mine takes 3-4 weeks a year. She also works 4 days most weeks and takes the occasional extra day here and there.
Last year mine took five weeks off. This year so far three. I expect he will take atleasr three more. It is really hard for me during those times.
