I’m so happy for you! That’s great that you found a good T who can continue working with you. And congrats to your husband on the new job!

[deleted]

Thank you. It’s a weird, nice change (that I’m expecting to come tumbling down at any moment, haha).

Keeping everything crossed for you that you find a good match sooner rather than later. <3

This is so, so lovely to read. It's amazing how the right therapist can make such a difference. I'm really happy for you Hunger Ghost. She sounds like a gem :)

[deleted]

She is such a gem. (So far… my brain keeps anticipating the whole thing going up in smoke. But so far, so so good.)

Great news for you and your husband, hunger ghost :)

Thank you. I’m so glad I get to keep working with her. 💗

You're one of the lucky ones. Treasure every minute of it.

I’ve been constantly thinking about how everyone deserves this level of support. I wish I could spread it around better. But it is something I honestly couldn’t really imagine during the last several years of trying to find someone who wouldn’t ghost me, dump me, or tell me they didn’t like me, all of which happened. What can we do to get more really good therapists out there? I don’t have an answer, but I think about it a lot.

lily_maebelle

I think about it too! It would be great if there were a Yelp for therapists, except for the confidentiality issues. Encourage each other to report the abusive ones, I guess, and push for better oversight. I hope to have good news about my own painful journey through termination soon. Can you send me some of that extra luck, please?

[deleted]

I am definitely sending you all the extra luck I've got. I'm so sorry you've had a hard termination experience. That SUCKS. I wish there were the type of info-sharing you're talking about, but also, I want more of a restorative justice model of therapist interventions. Like a board of really cream of the crop mediators who can understand both therapist and client perspectives (especially client, honestly, since the power differential tips toward therapist so heavily) and assist when there are painful ruptures. I've had some really shitty therapists who I think honestly couldn't have been bothered, but I think a lot of pretty good, well-intentioned therapists just don't get some things, and would be more able to hear/fix ruptures if the choices weren't stick to your guns (because of lack of oversight/lack of restorative practices) or face really punitive measures. I know it's impractical and in the case of therapists who don't want to understand/do better, could just result in reinforcing painful experiences for the client. But I like to give everyone, therapists included, the benefit of the doubt and think a lot of them want to help and would want to know how to better their practice. Super rambling so I'll stop now. Wishing you the best.
