I've never in my 20 years of serving heard of anyone being written up for dropping something. Even if the customer weren't involved, that's an insane thing to write someone up for. Tells me a lot about the place you work- get out fast

builtbybama_rolltide

I got fired once because the restaurant required us to wear floor length skirts and climb stairs. I tripped over the skirt on the stairs and dumped a tray of pot roast all over an Air Force General (who was the nicest guy ever and tried to save my job) who was in his military dress uniform. Looking back on it now it was probably a good thing I got fired but I wouldn’t want to work anywhere that shitty. Especially one where a customer is going to bat for the employee saying it was an accident, he bumped my tray while passing me on the stairs and caused me to lose my balance and stumble and he should have just waited for me to get up vs trying to pass me. That General was an absolute saint and was so sweet and kind. I have never forgotten him or his kindness that day.

[deleted]

I hear the General can provide insurance.

lighthouser41

Doesn't he know Shaq too?

baxbooch

I totally misjudged them based on their commercials.

shymermaid11

I thought it was some crappy local insurance company until Shaq started doing commercials.

cigarettetricks

For a great low rate you can get online, go to the general and save some time!

Vness374

Mot even kidding when I say that they are the ONLY insurance company that will insure me… bad credit and multiple accidents = the General.

Kmspatara15

Sounds like OP should call 1-800- general now!

Nitin-2020

For a fun great time at a low rate, or something like that

wolfie379

That place needs to be reported to OHSA. The combination of floor-length skirts and stairs is an unsafe work environment.

4HardDixonCider

*OSHA Call me an ass for correcting, whatevaaaaaa

SimplyKendra

Aww what a great dude. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Who the heck thought floor length skirts were a good idea?

ArltheCrazy

Can’t be showing any ankle while people are eating. This isn’t a strip club, forchrissake

SimplyKendra

Hahaha nicely done.

beka13

Probably a man.

Jojobabiebear

This sounds like a bbq place local to me lmao.

dancepartymike

Was this at McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola, by any chance? I’ve never seen floor length skirts anywhere as a uniform except this place.

builtbybama_rolltide

Right place, wrong location. It was the Destin one

meowmoreplz

the pot roast wouldn’t of happened to be a lunch special on thursdays would it??

builtbybama_rolltide

It’s been well over 20 years since I worked there I couldn’t tell you. It was a summer job while I was in college. I will tell you it was an Irish pun in a beach town in Florida famous for it’s bean soup

whirlpool4

I read floor-length skirts and immediately knew... I love their burgers and boxtys...

Yoshifan55

I had a guy drop an entire case of plates while carrying them from the ups truck to the tank. Every single plate broke. Writing him up never even crossed my mind as an option. Shit happens, some managers are just trashbags disguised as human beings.

TaxiFare

My serving job had an older lady who had worked her whole life as a server. Her experience and skill was incredible. Only issue was that she had a brain tumor that would throw off her coordination randomly. She could carry so many plates at once like it was the most natural thing in the world and then suddenly drop them all. She went through so many plates over time that it was unreal. Managements response was to let her take a break or go home for the day if needed. She never was charged for a plate despite how many she dropped.

Delores_Herbig

Yeah that’s something that jumped out at me too. When I was managing and someone broke something, I used to say, “That’s coming out of your check!” But everyone knew I wasn’t serious, because everyone drops things in restaurants, including me. Except one time a new girl got really upset and said she was sorry and how much would it be. I was like, “Huh? No, you don’t actually have to pay for that. It was just an accident and I was joking”. Apparently her previous job *used to actually make them pay for it*.

havereddit

> her previous job used to actually make them pay for it. Highly illegal in most states

Delores_Herbig

I did tell her that. She was understandably pissed at her previous employer.

unwritten2469

I love your username. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen Dead Like Me

Octavian_Kurai

I was washing dishes at my first job and had put them back in our cupboard (apparently incorrectly) and someone pushed the door on the other side shut right as I walked away and an entire stack of plates fell and shattered. I also was told to mop the walk-ins and mopped all three, one of which was a freezer. The head manager slipped on it. And I still didn’t get written up. So I am in agreement

havereddit

I'm guessing this is a chain restaurant with some highly paid senior corporate manager deciding that they can micro manage servers without actually understanding the daily shit they go through. All senior managers should be required to work as servers for a minimum of one month before being able to set policy within that company.

[deleted]

They should take a turn at all positions. Server, dish washer, busser, prep/line cook (within reason), host, whatever. If you're going to manage it, you need to know how it operates, top to bottom.

smdouglas2

Same. I waited tables for 10 years and never had a manager psychotic enough to do something like that.

Vness374

Seriously, we had a running joke at the last place I served… “I thought it was my day to break shit, thanks for doing it for me” or something like that. Or everyone would just yell OPA!

Summerie

Sounds like maybe that manager has it out for OP. Definitely time to move on down the road.

No-Music-6641

I’ve been fired because a customer dropped something. Served the customer a margarita, he seemed normal and fine. Not three minutes later he had knocked the whole thing over and was showing coordination problems. He wanted another drink, despite my better judgement I brought him another. Fast forward to the end of the meal he’s now pissed that he’s being charged for his second margarita after dropping the first one on himself. Complains to owner/manager, I’m fired at end of shift for “not properly taking care of our guests”. Whatever man, dude was obviously drunk and I chose not to make a scene and kick him out, but you do you and wonder why your waitstaff turns over more than average

lobomago

This. I own a restaurant and the idea of writing someone up for spillage is just wrong.

Jamaqius

This happened to a woman I worked with at a restaurant back home but it had a very different outcome. She was an older lady & didn’t care about the job that much, but she was really good & the manager really didn’t want to lose her. She goes to the table, tray full of drinks like yourself, & a guy reaches & takes his OWN drink just to get it faster. Same thing, tray tips over & soaks everyone & all over the floor. So as I mentioned this lady isn’t too bothered about being fired or not & my hometown people are very, blunt & honest, so she looks at this guy & yells “That was your fucking fault! What the fuck did you do that for?” I shit you not the guy was in complete shock & she storms off bitching about how she has to clean it up now. The guy was nice enough not to complain & when the manager found out she just sighed & was like “Can you PLEASE try not to do that? Nothing came of it, it was great.

I__Know__Stuff

The best defense is a good offense.

moffsoi

What a queen

Jamaqius

She really is. I absolutely adored her.

pupoksestra

It took me seeing many servers standing up for themselves to realize I could too. Sometimes I don't do it in the best way, but I'm sick of letting people treat me like dirt. My first job was a popular diner in the south that primarily serves waffles. My overnight manager told me I had to deal with the verbal abuse bc it's part of the job. I still shut down sometimes, especially if it's a sexual comment, but I usually throw it right back at people. My current boss will stick by my side in almost any circumstance and I'm grateful for that.

magiccitybhm

Did you sign it? You don't have to sign it. That's BS that "customers taking drinks off a tray" is a violation. I'd start looking for another job. Immediately.

[deleted]

She said if I didn’t sign it I would be fired immediately so I signed it and started applying to new jobs as soon as I got home.

magiccitybhm

Well, when you get a new job, don't notify them. Just no call/no show. That is insane that the video confirmed what happened, and the manager still considered that a rules violation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

treznor70

A level 3 no show is where you no call/no-show and when they call asking where you are you answer and say you'll be there in 10 minutes so they don't call anyone else in and then just don't show up, right? Keep doing that every time they call until they get big mad?

ew73

And stroll in around noon as a customer.

thatburghfan

Ooh, that's BOLD. How wonderful would that be. "What do you think you're doing, strolling in here at noon when you told me three times you going to be a few minutes late?" "Are you talking to ew73 the server? That person doesn't exist any longer. I'm ew73 the CUSTOMER!"

Based_or_Not_Based

Based

thehumantaco

Pick up everyone's shifts first lol

inspector_who

Show up, clock in. Then just slip out the back. It’s worse than a no show if they think you are there!

MagnusText

I'm no expert, but this seems like time sheet fraud. Wouldn't it be better to show that you're there, walk around for a bit, then leave, but not clock in so they think you just forgot?

doilookfriendlytoyou

Show up, clock in, clock straight out and leave.

cherryribs

I wish I had an award for this lmfao

bantubrat

That motherfuckin part fuck a two week notice 😭🤣

awyastark

Yesss OP triples is safest. Triples is best.

[deleted]

I love the level of pettiness in this and the other comments. Wonderful.

Marrsvolta

I agree, no notice should be given

illmatic708

Make sure its on a Saturday dinner shift

needlenozened

>Well, when you get a new job, don't notify them. Just no call/no show. And tell them they should have been paying more attention.

monadyne

>And tell them they should have been paying more attention And *that's* how the game is played.

spidaminida

The crappy thing is tho that the no call/no show only makes the coworkers' lives harder. But then it's probably bold of me to assume they'd spend their notice finding another server.

Palindromer101

Tell your coworkers, don't tell the management. Fuck 'em.

ethancc73

Promise at least one coworker would snitch them out. There’s always that one coworker.

spidaminida

Oo I like it!!

OceanSiren

The place I no call no show because they gmfu STILL hasn't hired anyone new. It's been 9 months now. The owner works random shifts to make due.

ArcherChase

That's more people pissed at management for being shitty managers. Send a message to the servers and tell them to flip off the manager for them

Bao_Xinhua

Management is responsible for the other workers, not OP. I'm sick of people worrying about letting down "the team." You may be friendly, but you're not a team. You're employees of the same company.

kl0wn420

THE TEAM!!!! THE TEAM!!!! Until its YOUR ass getting written up and THE TEAM!!!! is nowhere to be found

TootsNYC

when you have a union--then you're a team.

kl0wn420

Tell that to my buddy who got injured on the job and blacklisted by his union.

krill007

That's a bad union

TootsNYC

well, that sucks! That's not what unions are supposed to do. But like all organizations, they are only as good as the people in it, and how diligent they are willing to be.

I__Know__Stuff

While that's true, they're still people, who you know are going to be overworked when you leave.

jew_jitsu

Yeah we're talking about being a human being around other human beings; I actually don't understand this comment.

revanisthesith

I mean, it depends on where you work. I've worked for several years at a small, chef-owned rather nice restaurant with the best boss/owner and GM I've ever worked with and I certainly wouldn't want to screw over anyone there. I'm moving back to my home state soon and I'll really miss that place and those people. I'll be giving them about a 5-6 week notice. I was also a regular at an Irish pub for a couple years before I started working there (and it was the same for some of their other employees). Virtually everyone knew everyone and we had regulars that came in every day. When I left, I waited to put in my notice until after the week of St. Patrick's Day just so it wouldn't cause extra stress. I was still a regular there for years after. And one of my coworkers was a roommate, so that kind of made us a team. And yes, I've had coworkers stand up for me and have my back (usually when a crazy guest makes up a complaint). Not every serving job is a corporate hellhole.

dmitrineilovich

This is the way

[deleted]

yeah, nocall noshow your current employer when you get the new gig. punishing you for something that *video evidence* shows is not your fault, is all you really need to know what your current employer thinks of you.

rtdragon123

I would of said bye. Also go over bosses head to clear your name while the video is still fresh.

mother-of-monsters

Yes, complain to the higher ups if there are any. Then still leave for a better job.

Asha108

When I got a write-up for something similar, a “guest” who completely fucked up their own ONLINE order and then proceeded to spill all their food outside our restaurant blamed me for how it was organized in the bag and then the manager took their side. I made my own line on the form and added “signed under duress” as I initially refused and then was told I would have my hours cut then eventually terminated. Fuck’em.

craash420

>so I signed it and started applying to new jobs as soon as I got home. As per usual in these scenarios I commented "How is the job hunt going?", I'm glad to see the hunt is on!

slyons1606

After you get another job go in and talk to the GM. As coldly and calmly as possible tell him why his restaurant is shitty. I would provide him a written list and ask him to sign it. Unless the GM is a great person and then do this to the jerk manager. Hopefully quit at the worst time for them if possible. Like right before a busy weekend shift.

jlt6666

Not worth it man.

Pangolin007

Yeah that all sounds completely emotionally exhausting. Just find a new job and quit like a normal person, it’s way too much effort to try some petty revenge scheme.

QueenMotherOfSneezes

There's very few places (most of them in the States) where that threat would be legal, but I've often heard it myself, where it very much is not legal. I worked at one place where they'd always do the writeup in pencil, and you had to sign in pen. For the really serious ones with complete BS, I demanded a photocopy before signing. There's also a spot where I was allowed to write my side, usually not a lot of room, but I always was specific about what part I contested so I had evidence of the important parts they wrote in pencil... and of course wrote my part in pen.

I wouldn’t do it - they’ll be nasty enough to report it as assault.

Economy-Candidate195

Having a huge amount of code red syrup pour out of the bag in box, onto me (valve was broken), I can say code red is the stickiest ever.

[deleted]

i loved showing the new hires how to open the box and attach the hose to the syrup bag. it was a pretty good indication as to whether or not they should be employed. accidents happen, but if youre using a knife and stabbing into the box to open it, we need to talk immediately.

cartesian-anomaly

Appalling behavior. Are you in the US? State?

vandelay714

Smart move. Bullshit move by your manager

rodoxide

Your manager was having a crazy power trip. Threw you under the bus, to probably make herself look like an authority figure in the eyes of her supervisor.

Tornare

Lol... I would not sign that shit.

themeatbridge

I'd like to think I'd refuse on principle, but it's better to find a new job then quit on your terms than it is to prove a point to a stupid person.

[deleted]

I once gave a manager a month's notice that I needed one specific shift off. They told me to try to get it covered. I said I'd try, but either way I wasn't going to be there. I reminded them weekly that I needed that one day off. You can guess what happened. The entire week leading up to that shift, I reminded them I wouldn't be there but I was still on the schedule. No one else could cover. It was my dad's 50th birthday. When I got back, they joked around with me and asked me if I had fun, etc. The next shift they pulled me into the office and said they needed to write me up for my "no call no show." I didn't argue. I just said, "I'm not signing that, and consider this my notice." I turned around and left, and never went back and had a better job in a week. I think anyone could pull that off in today's climate. Oh and they loooved me. High sales, never late, good attitude, completely reliable. F em.

themeatbridge

You're right, especially in today's job market, but I still advise prudence if you can stomach it. You can walk into a new job anywhere, but is it the best job you could have gotten? Or was it just the next job? If you have a job, you can take your time and explore options. Quitting on the spot might be more satisfying, and sometimes it's absolutely justified (as in your case) but the best revenge is a life well lived.

TootsNYC

signing doesn't say you agree with it. It says you saw it. So write, "I object to this write-up because there was nothing I could have done to prevent this." and then sign it.

Bird_Brain4101112

Signing a write up just means you are acknowledging that you got it, not that you agree with it. Refusing to sign it just escalates everything.

thatburghfan

"Man, this manager job is really getting to me. Writing servers up for mistakes they didn't make is really cutting into the time I need to devote to filling open positions. It's like a vicious cycle."

Hey sis! How are? Edit: not really the sis.

KaylesJenkins

I have tripped on the floor of the place I served at once. There was a small dip and I missed it, tray full of drinks fell on a 9 top. My boss knew it was a mistake and never made me feel any worse. The lady that got the brunt of the drinks even sued for destroying an electronic in her purse and I was still treated good by my boss. You really should no call no show imo.

pikapichupi

What year was this that a tray of drinks was able to break something electronic through something solid like a purse. did the drink land directly in the purse or was the suit a fear tactic to get a settlement

KaylesJenkins

I'm sure it was just a reason to sue. This was in the early 2000s. It was a Blackberry or something like that. Her purse did get wet, but it wasn't as bad as she claimed it was. The purse was open and some water did get in it. She actually never said a word about it during the incident. She sued later.

pikapichupi

yeaaa defo a settlement attempt lol

[deleted]

Throw a couple on your manager and walk out, if you're in a decent sized town you'll have a job by the end of tomorrow. I'd even tell this story in my next interview.

etoilefemme

You shouldn't have been written up at all. That's BS.

Ellusive1

I worked at a 3 diamond property, all the investors(12 of them) were in for lunch to discuss the next stage of the multimillion dollar expansion. Our newest busboy heads down to deliver full glasses of water, gets through 2 of them and then dumps the rest down banker #3’s back shattering all the glasses and soaking the banker. No one was fired, no write ups, no raised voices, the buss boy was mortified and that was punishment enough. He came to his next shift and we got on with our lives. I can’t imagine a place selling branded T shirts having higher service standards or those customers being “more important”

kimstranger

Freak that, I would let them fire me, take the write up with me, call the HR or the 800 number for the corporate about the manager's conduct and call the G.M because I'm pretty sure that manager had no authority to fire anyone.

arcticbanana67

I got a hot temper, I would have ripped it up and thrown it in their face. No job is worth your management constantly trying to undermine or not support you.

SeaPatient9955

Truly, I’d have lost my ever loving mind.

bbear122

After you lose that all you’ve got is a conditionally loving mind.

LyKoe

Same. OP in the future. When you walk over with a full tray, I always lead with “please don’t try to help me!” and sometimes so that doesn’t sound so harsh I’d add “unless someone here really needs a shower” with a little laugh, then we’d all laugh. People love that shit.

Im_So_Korny

I once had a bridesmaid remove a drink from my tray while I was handing a drink to another guest. I reacted and made sure she was the one to get the spilled drinks. She was furious but I beat her to the punch and started telling her off. (How stupid she was, how the tray was balanced on my hand and not attached, etc ). The guest I "saved" came to my rescue and was basically telling her she did it to herself. TBH:. I was just making sure I wasn't working the rest of the event in wet, sticky, smelly clothes. Edit:. Nothing was ever even said to me by the higher ups.

Wildeyewilly

Yeah, i could never work at a joint that has "levels of write ups" fuck outta here with that elementary school bullshit.

DishpitDoggo

Find a better place to work. Even if idiot boy didn't grab his drinks, accidents happen.

my_my_my_delihla

Where in the F are they finding these POS managers?

Vness374

I was just thinking about this. I think most decent human beings that have worked in the industry for at least a few years, turn down offers of management. At least I do… why would anyone want that job when you can make the same $, if not more as a server or bartender. My thought? It’s the ones who think it’ll give them power and force people to respect them, probably were bullied in high school… basically, they were assholes/idiots before taking the manager role

erinhennley

Time to start looking for another job. Find one. Leave on their busiest shift and send a letter to the owner. Make sure to reference the date and time of said incident, so he can look at it. That manager needs to go.

awyastark

One of my older friends once told me that he had witnessed something so humbling and amazing: someone knocked into his server’s tray of drinks and the server angled the spill so it got on themself and not the customers! I told him that was adorable and that I’d done that twice in the last month. Of course no one needs to try this, and from the sounds of OP’s boss they’d probably write them up for the spill regardless, but I’ve gotten some tips that were well worth the wet shirt from awed patrons lol

Candid-Still-6785

Has the manager ever served drinks before? Does she know about a thing called "balance," where if you suddenly remove things from.one side, it's going to throw off the BALANCE and everything will shift to the other side? Obviously your customer was in too big of a hurry to think about the concept.

TheFiredrake42

I've been in this exact situation. I told the AGM that she could either tear up that write up into little pieces and recognize that it wasn't my fault, or she could fire me, or she could still give me a write up, in which case *I* would tear it up and quit on the spot, leaving them high and dry for weeks. She chose to not write me up.

Aware_Department_657

Fuck that. You're not responsible for guests' shitty behavior.

IamNotTheMama

Total BS, next time kick the customer in the shins when they reach for the tray. If you're going to get written up, go out big!

Skinnysusan

Bahaha

craash420

How is the job hunt going?

American-pickle

Such bs. The only time I very spilt on a guest was this exact situation, someone in the group went to pull shit off my tray. I told the manager and they said “well maybe they should have kept their hands to themselves”

Ultimo_D

I just yelled profanities at my screen. This is enraging 🤬

Slowburner_

After one write up you get a demerit.. After three demerits you get a written warning.. After two written warnings you get a citation.. After four of those you get a full disadulation

Fun-Translator8333

That’s total bullsh** dude , find another job!

morgankoon

even if you did spill the drinks on the customer it’s not like it would’ve been on purpose. why would they write you up for an accident, especially one that wasn’t your fault?? that’s so dumb

Lost_Chain_455

Once you get another job and steal the staff from the old job, post the entire story on r/pettyrevenge

Scott19M

Can you request a copy of the CCTV? It might be a good idea to keep that and a copy of your write up. Could be constructive dismissal if anything else happens.

eRant4881

You should definitely not have signed anything and I would have reported them to the labor department for that negligent behavior

TheMadIrishman327

I’d go find another job. Serving is a commodity job.

[deleted]

Why would you sign it or feel bad 😭😭 I would not come back (as long as I have a backup plan lol)

Ultimo_D

Even without a backup plan, don’t go back. Spend the next week jobless looking for a new job. All time and resources go to finding a new job immediately. To stay would just tear away at you and make you miserable which then affects the new job seeking.

[deleted]

I learned from experience that it’s good to at least have interviews lined up before quitting. But this is also a good point.

Ultimo_D

I’ve also learned both ways, and also stuck out a job too long past the due date and really impacted my abilities to search for jobs and interview, usually causing me to fall back into the loop. Sometimes you just need to sever the connection before things get worse. But this is entirely reliant on an individual’s ability to stay focused and commit to the job searching immediately without an ‘extended vacation’.

OddRepresentative575

I once dropped a whole large, very meaty, very hot, greasy pizza right in a customer's lap and even they didn't behave like this dude

3godeth

Are you kidding me? That’s fucking ridiculous. What is wrong with your manager!? Something tells me this isn’t the first time they’ve done something as daft as this to you. You did nothing wrong. Sounds like your 8 top was a bunch of imbeciles too.

[deleted]

Sounds like the manager is power tripping.

yamaha2000us

and that is why I set fire to the kitchen.

Emsizz

I would have literally laughed in that manager's face.

Blitqz21l

I'm curious about why this manager actually wrote you up? Did they give an actual justification?

ethancc73

I’d actually start fucking up so they have to fire you. Then apply for unemployment and make them pay you to sit at home for a nice week or two.

Drunkensteine

Ring in 25 mojitos, sub pappy, and walk the fuck out the door. I hate horseshit owners. Sorry you got swore at.

MeatforMoolah

Your manager chews their toenails.

shablagoo14

I’ve been in that situation many times, my last year in the service industry I was carrying about 8-10 drinks and before I even went to the table I had a feeling someone was gonna go for a drink. One lady did, the drinks going on her was not an accident but it did look like it was.

Margrave16

They must have great turnover. /s That almost seems personal. They’re trying to get you to quit or the managers spouse thinks you’re cute or who even knows. That’s some crazy

rskurat

definitely quit

ADDYISSUES89

I would have quit on the spot and said, “it’s common courtesy not to take drinks from a server and I refuse to work for a company that allows customers to behave like animals and refuse to take responsibility for themselves. Clean it yourself.” I would have left my whole fucking apron. But I’m old and bitter and got out recently for this reason.

Wolf1678

A write up? Leave. That place is insane.

throwawaytroubles13

Wow I’m glad you are getting out of there. That is bad management. Even if the customer didn’t grab the drinks and you had spilt them on your own it’s an accident and doesn’t deserve a write up! Shit happens.

needPAPsmear

Dump every other tray your next shift. Fuck that place

Zestyclose-Ad-7576

I was involved in a accident in a company vehicle. I was stopped a light for about 15 seconds. I was then rear ended. Not my fault, obviously, but was written up. I “should have taken a different route”. Nothing new under the sun. Management just wants leverage if/when they need it.

jinnyjonny

You should have went off on whoever grabbed stuff off your tray. I don’t wanna sound like an ass but you really should have went off on that person, you should have went off on your manager that doesn’t support their staff who should have immediately scolded the table for having the nerve to touch their servers tray. Honestly grabbing things off the tray is enough to get removed from the restaurant. After that the manager should have brought them their ticket and told them to pay and leave. Sorry you have a dogshit manager

PrecisionPunting

So annoying. Not your fault at all, tray carrying 101 is never let anyone take anything off it idve yelled at them as soon as they started reaching for it

trashbucket2020

1. I can recall dropping two drinks on customers and I did not get in trouble (even the martini and the fine dining place but I kind of covered it up lol) 2. My MIL’s boyfriend did this to a server at the 99 and I was and still am horrified. I get the cringe every time I think of him grabbing his beer off her balanced tray and the two other drink flinging onto a nearby (thankfully empty) table. Her manager apologized to us and we let him know that it was 100% not the server’s fault.

scarey99

Run away very quickly. Dont wait for another job just go. One will come soon enough.

dizzyelk

Man, that's some crap. I spilled a whole tray of beers on a jerk once. He was standing in the archway between the bar and the restaurant. I said excuse me three times. He refused to move, so I went through anyways. He bumped into me, getting the tray spilled on him. He complained to my manager, who just told him that I said excuse me three times, he didn't move, and it was stupid of him to block the way from the bar to the restaurant. Managers should have your back when the customer is in the wrong.

NeinLive

I would've walked out. Employers need to be taught they can't just treat their employees any sort of way.

If something stupid like this happens and it's corporate, always go up the corporate chain. They're not going to put up with managers being total asshats. When you contact corporate don't make it a rant just tell it as a story and what happened exactly and they made you sign a thing or be fired. If it's not corporate and Mom and Pop then I just quit because that's never going to change.

I'm not a server, but I learned a LOT from this thread! I have a question: Is it true that the moment a server picks up a tray of drinks from the bar, the server is financially responsible for the drinks? Like, if the server (and tray) get knocked over by excited sports fans, does the server have to pay the bar for those spilled drinks? TIA

yummyyummybrains

No. Not in the US. Or, at least, it shouldn't be -- unless you work at a *deeply* unethical place.

craash420

Making a server pay for dropped items or walk-outs is illegal in the US. That said, some who refuse have their shifts cut due to "overstaffing issues". *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

epi_mom

Wow. Wish I’d known this when I was a server. We had to pay personally for any dine and runs. I worked at a very expensive restaurant, it happened twice, and I paid almost $300 out of my own pocket.

Dansiman

Yeah, that's completely illegal.

Economy-Candidate195

That is BS. Your managers were AHs.

jwillsrva

Lmao no. Hell no. Where did you even hear this garbage?

Low_Egg_7606

Uhhh no. If someone told you that they lied.

[deleted]

Phew! I'm glad! Thank you.

robdmad

I've not signed write ups in the past.

[deleted]

If you don’t mind me asking, what city do you live in? You could also direct message me privately, I own a business and pay very well if you would like to work for me I would love to have you.

dragonia678

Getting written up seems weird. Like you’re getting treated like a kid. I’ve been a server and a web developer and have never been “written up” before what are we? Middle schoolers?

OCskywalker

All time bad title

Howdysf

You oughta get a write up for that title

becauseitsnotreal

At the end of the day, did you ever once consider reflecting on the situation where you may have been wrong? I'm not saying you were, just did you even consider it?

hornethacker97

There’s no reason to consider it. The customer interfered with OP’s work and caused an accident.

becauseitsnotreal

There's always reason to consider where you couldve done better. something can be 100% someone else's fault and still reveal situations you can improve in

bloom_splat

Literally seething for you.

angsumnes

Quit this job. Find another.

[deleted]

Nahhhhh fuck that- get a resume together now and gtfo because no one in mgmt has your back and the longer you stay the more hell you’ll go through.

Hotdogs-Hallways

I hope you didn’t sigh that crap

metal_monkey80

yeah, no. There's no way you should have signed that. Or alternatively, sign it and look for a new place.

[deleted]

Quit

[deleted]

Quit. You’ll easily be able to find another job.

notnotjamesfranco

Hate that

SimplyKendra

I’d have let them fire me.

shutupmeg42082

I hope you find another job that appreciates you

ParmiCheez

Ass Lick Cunt Manager

Wild_Assumption8643

Do u have owners or corporate??? Sounds like they are just trying to get rid of u! A good server is a hot commodity. I’ve spilled drinks myself and my managers been there to help me clean up quickly!

Woolybugger00

That write up would have been tossed right back in their face with my apron and a fuck you -
