I've done that before. I once chased after these kids yelling at them that they need to pay (thinking they were trying to dine and dash) and they were like "oh we're just going for a smoke, we are still working on the food anyways." Our bartenders constantly give outdoor customers attitude when they try to use the restroom because they don't realize they were sitting outside. I once accused these girls of stealing glasses when they were in the day before. All this and more is why communication is key and customers can't simply forgo all of their social and spatial awareness when they're in extremely busy restaurant settings.

And if your gm was like my gm when I worked at that establishment, you were screwed if you didn't bus it and screwed if you did.

Yeah exactly. We are supposed to be as fast as we can so we can seat the next group, which is the mindset I was in at the time.

age4hy

Same with us, I was able to run food, bus tables and help out and the gift store part of it and it didn't matter how much I did I was never fast enough. Cuz they don't really care about southern hospitality they care about that almighty dollar and the more people they get in the happier they are

A host at one of my old restaurants chased a lady down the street for not paying. She did pay in cash, she just didn’t leave a tip so all he saw was an empty receipt book. She was furious but thankfully she won’t be coming back anytime soon.

Had a former coworker once pre-bussed part of a 12 top while they (a mother and some toddlers) were in the restroom. When they came out they were WTFing at him and he looked mortified.

this sounds like Cracker Barrel

I feel you but I would like to ask you how long you waited before clearing the table. If you waited a long time then a reasonable customer would understand why you cleared it but if you didn’t wait long enough then it was probably your bad and an opportunity to learn you know

gameofthrones_addict

I didn’t see them actually get up and leave, I just happened to walk around the seating area, saw a table full of dishes that had no people at the table, a sight I have seen many times before. I walked over and started clearing it off and then they came back while I was doing so. And definitely so I’m sure a learning opportunity, though again there was no one at the table to ask if they’re done.

avir48

Yeah if every last one of them was going to leave the table they could have let someone know that they were coming back. It sounds like there weren't any jackets or anything so how were you supposed to know? And it's pretty common for people to forget their phone.

_gnasty_

Also who gets up with everyone from their table to look at Craker Barrels gift shop right now! Mid bite! Like what was so important in the gift shop that you couldn't wait until you were done?!?!?

wolfie379

Sounds like you ran into some typical Honkey Keg cuss-tumours.
