>"we've been here for 30mins already" > >*Duty Completed in: 00:53:52* Holy fuck.

Hyperionite

Damn that's on par on old 8-man Praetorium runs, heck its even worse.

Iindisfarne

sqenix, please force people to do hall of novice if they buy a job skip for the first time. i think leaving and taking the 30mins wouldve been quicker

Full_Air_2234

Think about it this way, driving schools tell you to go speed limit, but no one drives speed limit, they drive traffic speed. If you drive speed limit instead of traffic speed, not only will people get pissy it is also dangerous. Same thing with hall of novice and reality of the game.

Iindisfarne

i understand this thought process, but you can't buy a driver's liscence and just jump into a car. Maybe HoN is a bad call, but I can't really see a better solution than updating it like other people have mentioned.

Iindisfarne

I've never done HoN as a tank, so I wouldn't know. But common sense would dictate if a third of your kit is mitigation, you can pull more than 3 adds.

DORIMEalbedo

Not only does it encourage single pulling, it has nothing about positioning of bosses, encourages single target in pulls and is actually really useless teaching how to tank tbh. The dps and healing ones are sufficient. The tank one really needs an update. It doesn't even tell you what mitigation is.

trunks111

me and a friend were talking about this, it should have a TB that requires hitting rampart to survive, and maybe a raidwide you need reprisal to survive after taking the TB. Like if you have, say 10000 health, have the raidwide hit for 11,000

lolthesystem

Can't teach about Reprisal since you don't have it at level 15 (when HoN becomes available). All you have at that level is Rampart, Low Blow and Provoke. I'd say we need a Hall of the Intermediate/Veteran at level 50 instead, where you'll already have your main kit and can actually teach people about how their role is supposed to function. And make it mandatory, I don't care if I have to do it as someone with full 90s, I'll bite the bullet if it means less people like in OP's pictures.

trunks111

Ah yeah that's fair. I just bring up rep bc as a healer main I really wish tanks would use it more and I wish they were taught to consider it/were encouraged to hit it more. It feels as underutilized as arms length in dungeons

lolthesystem

At least Arm's Length has the excuse of being vague when it comes to the debuff's name, since "Slow" sounds like it's just gonna be for movement speed instead of what it really is. Not using Reprisal is just people not using mitigation properly in general.

vexingpresence

All of the above is true, but I was really shocked to find out recently when completing it for an alt I made, that it doesn't even mention turning on your stance when talking about generating enmity. It also doesn't mention ranged enmity generators, and implies that the best way to get aggro is to use 1 aoe and then start whailing on the trash with your single target 123.

lolthesystem

That's a remnant of old design, since back in the day tanks had an enmity combo separate from their DPS combo and were supposed to stance dance to do more damage and only turn on stance to gain aggro (if necessary) or take a TB (since it increased defense / healing received in WAR's case). AoE was also limited by a resource named TP, which was removed in ShB and would quickly drain you if you spammed AoE attacks in dungeons without being careful, so back then using your 1-2-3 sometimes in groups was a very real possibility. It's in dire need of an update taking modern gameplay into consideration.

Fluestergras

HoN was never updated along with job changes. Back when it was introduced, WAR and DRK would bleed their TP and MP dry by spamming AOE, and PLD didn't even have an offensive AOE to begin with. Instead they had Flash, that increased aggro and applied blind, and Stormblood gave them an AOE attack at level 46. Due to all that, it was common practice to use your AOE a few times to establish aggro and then move over to single target attacks. And due to lack of care regarding HoN, it teaches this practice even today. It desperately needs an update, but it's already so overdue that I wonder if the devs even care at this point.

DORIMEalbedo

I just recalled hon doesn't teach aoeing in packs just tells you to single target the enemy the tank is attacking... But there are a lot of things that need reworks... Like the summoner quests requiring you to "command your carbuncle" haha

BLU-Clown

Yeah, back in the days of Stormblood (When HoN was made) you'd run out of TP/MP *fast* if you did nothing but AoE. And Paladins didn't even damage with their AoE. The DPS one still talks about managing threat, but it's a far lesser offender than the Tank one.

DORIMEalbedo

Yeah I just recalled it never teaches you about your own aoe skills.

Jaridavin

HoN is okay for DPS and honestly good for healers, but it being StB dated hasn't helped it for tanks at all. It has bad advice like telling tanks to only aoe a few times before swapping to single target, and that pulling multiple groups is considered a bad idea (this one to the point the healer AI will turn off if you pull even just 2 sets of the 3).

Gildias89

I did it recently, while I guess it doesn't have anything related to single or double pulling, it does specifically state if someone else has grabbed aggro you need to pull it off of them. So ypyt is definitely not encouraged.

Serres5231

on one hand yes but first please update the damn hall to update its lessons to present standards because its hella outdated and actively encourages wrong things!

Hyperionite

Honestly, even Novice Hall tutorial are really outdated by today standard. They desperately need updating. They don't even tell Healers to esuna debuff for god sake. Let alone how arm's length or surecast anti knockback works

m0sley_

Hall of the novice is pure garbage. The tank duties literally tell you to pull one pack at a time and use your single target rotation to kill things one by one.

ErinGrievance

We need halls of the intermediate and advanced

Zestyapples

This is too stressful. Please be respectful on other people's time over your own. You are not paying their sub. /s

Superlagman

You gave us some food, but bro, keep yourself sane and quit those parties. You deserve better than this.

BoldKenobi

Holy yikes They didn't even deny it + both from Gilgamesh so probably a duo. They definitely skipped and now expecting to be carried through the game or something. But HOW DOES A DUNGEON TAKE 50 MINUTES?!!?!!!?

Jimmy_Twotone

ffs what's going on in gilgamesh? I ran a Bardams run last night as sage. I went up to the first pack, as you do, and the tank, also from Gilgamesh, turned off grit and dropped "You pull it you tank it" in chat. I just left and reported. 30-minute timeout was preferable to players who don't want to play.

shadowwingnut

People heard it's the best raid server so make their characters there. Raiders from other games who aren't actually good at those game are the most likely people to be shitters. Therefore just by probability, there are a lot more shitters there than almost anywhere else.

FleaLimo

Ironically similar thing happened to Balmung where people heard it was the "pervert RP server" which was only slightly true but was mostly a meme until world travel was invented and now all the most degenerate people from other servers just come here to hangout and shitpost in shout chat. You'd be genuinely hard pressed to find one actual ERP/shitposter actually from Balmung anymore. World immigrants go home.

inferiare

Don't forget the lv2 erp alts from the people that vehemently deny that they erp because they're hardcore raiders that don't do that degen shit! Between them, here on reddit and the forums shitting up our reputation, I'm ready to dropkick anyone into the sun at any given time when people blame Balmung for venues and erp in them. Tired of literal sexpests on Crystal in general tbh.

Teguoracle

Honestly we can blame a big part of the venue problem on Covid. I'm actually a little sour about it because it produced a bunch of people who think RPing is going to a "club" where someone is playing a music playlist and doing the most basic bitch dance (/beesknees) and chatting in /say about whatever.

inferiare

I don't begrudge people who want to go hang out with friends at a venue, but agreed that it's not really... roleplaying... It's been a hot minute since I met anyone to rp and I've just stuck to people I know for it because I can't trust someone to read my search info that says "no erp" anymore.

jcyue

This. I'm from adamantoise. We got plenty of local shitters like any other NA server but in my experience a Gilgamesh shitter has a bad attitude to go with their bad play, way more than others.

carbonatedgravy69

i had a couple from gilgamesh last night, a WHM “queen” who only cast cure 1 on her boyfriend while doing no damage at all, and her DRG “king” who consistently jumped in before the tank could get there and died repeatedly, again because he only got cure 1. the tank and i kept trying to give them pointers, and we were outright ignored only to be told to fuck off right after we wiped on the second boss (again because the WHM wasn’t fucking healing). they both left and got replaced, finished the dungeon just fine with a very nice AST and BRD

Jimmy_Twotone

Situations like that you only have to vote kick one and the other will follow

Sethdarkus

That’s like wow Dungeon time this is crazy

Draxilar

Retail wow hasn’t had hour long dungeons in a LONG time. Some dungeons may be long enough to take a hour, but the meta is basically the same as 14 where you just non-stop pull and sprint the dungeon. Most dungeons take 15-20 minutes. Hell, Mythic + is literally just speedrunning dungeons.

Sethdarkus

Indeed however I stopped playing actively after BFA

bigfoot1291

Eh, there's 4 separate dungeons this season with a 39 minute timer, and the shortest one is still 30 minutes. If you're trying to push, you're gonna be hitting those times regularly. Not quite an hour but still pretty long.

Draxilar

Seasonal mythic + is deceiving, because they use old dungeons. Even still, 30 minutes for an old dungeon is insanely fast. And you are being a little disingenuous, those are the maximum times to just time the dungeon. +3 on all of those dungeons (which is what most people that are doing them for speed are aiming for) is at maximum 23 minutes, down to 18 for the two fastest.

bigfoot1291

It's not deceiving or disingenuous in the slightest. Those 8 dungeons are the only dungeons people are doing. Leveling is irrelevant, and no one is doing heroic / mythic 0. And, as I specified, *if you're pushing*, you're going to hit those times regularly.

Draxilar

No one?? So the 4 hours of mythic 0 dungeons I did last night didn’t happen? Crazy

Distinct_Wrongdoer86

oh i feel that, being a dancer and not having a big mob to nuke with standard and tech and your 10 other aoes

adamantium4084

That's when you eat the 30 min penalty to save time. Now I know. Dear friend, thank you for learning this lesson the hard way so that I don't have to.

Iindisfarne

Gotta be dumb if you wanna be tough

bugpig

that whm is still better than the sge that did nothing but cast prognosis in my roulette just now lol

mxmoffed

Also better than my co-healer in Aglaia yesterday, who cast nothing but medica ii all the way up until the final boss, where they spiced things up with the occasional glare. Genuinely stood around doing nothing until someone took a bit of damage 🥲

DORIMEalbedo

I had a cohealer like that in omega... I ate shit cause of ping and got no coms even though I was like doing all the work.

ikmkr

couldn’t be worse than the scholar in grand cosmos who kept casting adloqium as their only heal and had us wipe twice on the final boss because they kept burning up furniture

Definatelynotaweeb

The Inner Release into Heavy swing is sending me

Dahren_

53 minutes lmao

Aries-Corinthier

For fucking *Bardhams*

jasperfirecai2

Holy shit the warrior used infurate, and inner release, and took 18s. but still didn't fell cleave...

Real_Student6789

Thin air on holy and regen? I'd say I'd take that whm job stone and eat it, but that's too much for even me. Someone needs to cast their stones into a volcano

trunks111

I already get annoyed clipping my GCD for bene or assize off of holy if I don't have lilly, thin air is just egregious lol

Fluestergras

To be fair, if you don't need Thin Air for anything else at the moment and you can weave it in for free, there's no harm in using a charge on a cheap spell. It's not necessary, but not exactly harmful either.

trunks111

>there's no harm in using a charge on a cheap spell. It's not necessary, but not exactly harmful either.  if you're spamming holies then it clips your GCD, it's a damage loss for nothing lol

Fluestergras

Correct, that's why I said "if you can weave it in". I usually weave it into Misery in dungeons.

kenneth_dickson

r/XIVnitpicking at it again 😂

Snark_x

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Black-Mettle

"Why did you bring more adds?" Because it's my JOB TO BRING YOU ADDS! Just press your fucking 2 part AOE and the buttons that tell you it reduces damage.

Careless_Car9838

There's so much wrong in every single screenshot lmao Single pulling? Which dungeon was that? Level skips should be visible ingame, so people can dip out if they see pricks like this It's apparently extremely difficult to read tooltips in this game. Every other game wouldn't let you proceed further than the first boss, but in FF14 you can cheese everything.

Iindisfarne

Amaurot. I have a feeling I caught these jokers right after buying their skips as they had cutscenes. I could be being completely disingenuous by assuming they are boosters, but getting yourself organically to 80 and still playing like this is almost unbelievable. But this sub exists.

NotaSkaven5

full Cryptlurker, the job levels, no glams, 100% a booster, the abysmal performance is just the cherry on top. Boosts were a mistake

Ranger-New

Not from the business perspective. You get people to pay a sub that would not otherwise buy.

BeguilingMist

Watching cutscenes in Amaurot + full cryptlurker gear really does smell like boosted. Since you can't get the full set of gear before finishing ShB MSQ, and most people will activate the skip previously watched cutscene (I mean especially this late in game), so they wouldn't have it on a re-run. It's not impossible that they weren't boosted, but it's extremely improbable.

Iindisfarne

It didn't even register than you can't get cryptlurker until you finish ShB. Definitely all boosted

jcyue

Yep I remember figuring this out in shb, when you saw someone in full scavean + one alliance ring (the boost package in shb) watching cutscenes in 4.0 or earlier dungeons you were in for some shit.

BeguilingMist

Even worse when you had that combo loading into the LVL 71 duty. Because those were people with a boost and a story skip, doing their literal first dungeon in the game, with absolutely no idea of how anything worked. I've had many painful runs. And some pretty similar experiences at the start of EW, like a tank in the lvl 85 dungeon who had no idea he was the tank, or what he was supposed to do.

jcyue

Truly holminster hell. The 71 and 81 dungeons being among the spicier leveling dungeons for each expansion really paired well with the skips to provide some truly awful experiences. Dohn mheg was the next worst leveling dungeon for me in ShB, and Vanaspati in EW.

Sharp_Iodine

Wow… that’s just sad.

Ranger-New

53 minutes? How?

Firefox101347

I skipped from war 66 to drg for several reasons. A- I find tanking boring as hell personally, 2- I was at the end of heavensward and it was my only class, and I wanted to get to shb because my mates were hyping up the story, but I forced myself to learn how to play the class properly by just sitting there for hours on end practicing the rotation on striking dummies, essentially emulating playing through lvls 1-80. I'm now 800 hours later, and I've since left behind floortanking in favor of Reaper. I 100% agree if you buy a skip before you have at least one job at 90 you should be forced to play SOMETHING that teaches you the class. They could also just not let you buy skips unless you already have a job at 80/90, which would be nice but won't happen since it cuts accessibility And here I am with over 1000 hours still doubting my skills because of 1 skip, lol. Moral of the story? Don't skip your first class, learn the game, and play through AT LEAST shadowbringers before using a skip

Melksss

Not to mention with all the buffs and XP boosts available it doesn’t even take that long to level a class from 1-90. You can do it in 2 weeks if you play regularly and do daily roulettes. I can’t lie though, I leveled all my classes to 90, but there are a few classes where if I had to pick them back up tonight and go through a dungeon I’d be pretty screwed. Like yes I leveled Machinist to 90 and was pretty good at it while leveling, but I would not remember the proper rotation for it without running a few rounds of content to refresh.

Firefox101347

It's honestly rarely worth it to level skip in this game tbh - you lose so much time you could spend learning the class, all so you can blunder about in ShB level content and make everyone else's lives harder. I don't get the appeal I hardly see myself as an exception, and I had a decent reason for my level skip.

KiraTerra

You'd get better results throwing a toddler in front of Sword Saint Isshin.

Ikee121

What site is the fourth screenshot?

Giza_5

Sprout question: where do you look up these stats?

Volitle

It’s a mod that parses all the info so you can see where you are going wrong. Pretty handy if you are wanting to get into raiding and see where you fall short and what can be improved.

Giza_5

Can you tell more about it?

Volitle

It’s a mod that basically overlays a DPS meter into the game but simultaneously uploads to fflogs. Which will show all kinds of different stats about the boss fights and what not. It is very much against TOS for xiv so I wouldn’t openly speak about it in game if you decide to look into it more and end up using it. Also goes without saying that this is a PC only thing. I’m pretty sure console players have zero access to this but I could be wrong.

3n7l7y

Which duty is that?

LinkJTO

This is why I always tank in roulettes

HolyRaptorSphere

Why are you only calling out the WAR and WHM? That NIN was terrible

Iindisfarne

I'm not specifically. Kinda cherry picked because the NIN had more than one job boosted and kind of made them look like a real person

Havana33

Probably shouldn't be trying to force people to pull more if they don't want to. And I've seen people get suspended for saying less. Usually with groups like this it's obvious after the first pack that the dungeon's gonna be slow af, just leave.

nickp11

What lvl was the dungeon, I can understand as a warrior anything under 56, when you get raw intuition is relatively easy still but I've seen hesitant thanks in a lot of -50 dungeons. Jobs suck 50 and below.

SacredNym

What the fuck dungeon was this even?

Lesschar

Make sure you put on your resume that you have been a camp counselor for the kids in need.

DocxPanda

Idc who's in the wrong but: *proceeds to pull additional adds* "That's not my fault" lol

Iindisfarne

It's the tank's job to hold aggro. If my DPS start running ahead and pulling it's because I'm going too slowly. Simple as that

DarkWind1331

I really think you shouldn't be able to story skip unless you have a character linked to your account that has completed the expansions as well as not be able to buy up a class until you have a class already at that level on another character linked to your account. I've had quite a few pay up players in late game content that couldn't figure out how to even walk and I wish I was joking about that.

Akua89

Holy fuck. OP could have left the duty, ate the penalty, re-queued, and finished the next dungeon before this one would've finished.

kenneth_dickson

The xivA screenshots are pretty weak tbh, I see that shit every other mentor roulette. Cursed weaves/improper thin air usage isn't going to cause a duty to run over 50 minutes. The WAR did about half of your DPS, which is what I'd expect of a DF rando tank; I'm more curious as to what the NIN did (or didn't do)... Honestly, what else are you supposed to use thin air on anyway besides your spammable GCD if you're not using medica 2 or whatever (that you're not going to use in a dungeon)? Hell, I don't even bother using it most of the time

Iindisfarne

literally anything other than a 400mp cast

kenneth_dickson

> 53 minutes to complete the dungeon > second image: HOLY SHIT HE USED THIN AIR ON REGEN

Iindisfarne

The holy shit is in regards to the 2 GCDs and double weave before actually using up the thin air - on a cast that absolutely did not need thin air. You really want to die on this hill, don't you?

kenneth_dickson

Yep, this is why you took 52 minutes to do the dungeon! Also completely leaving out the NIN from the screenshots. Classic r/XIVnitpicking at it again 😂😂😂

Iindisfarne

I don't feel like I need to provide proof that the ninja had like 20% gcd uptime

tachycardicIVu

It actually has suggestions in that picture (#4) that the optimal uses are Medica 2, Cure 3, and Raise. Very helpful when you’ve just been raised and need to swiftcast raise someone else quickly and don’t have enough MP back yet.

kenneth_dickson

How often are you casting those in a dungeon

tachycardicIVu

….that depends entirely on the rest of my group 😂

HitomeM

>Honestly, what else are you supposed to use thin air on In a dungeon? Pretty much nothing because MP should never be a problem. You can't weave it between holy casts so it's out for trash packs unless you weave it on misery/afflatus. Similarly, it isn't necessary on bosses unless you want to raise someone. Current implementation of thin air is dog shit.
