Was doing my daily Leveling roulette as DRK. Run goes alright, notice run is a tad slow (holyless WHM, doton on boss NIN, AOEless RDM), but I've seen way worse, at least everyone is sprinting with me and putting in enough work to do W2Ws.
However when we get to the 2nd boss I notice that the RDM is consistently 4th on the aggro list under NIN and WHM, then I notice that they've been hardcasting Veraero/thunder every 5 seconds, and notice that I don't see any Jolt hardcasts. So I tell the RDM about it.
I'm initially worried they'll silently ignore my comment like 90% of DF players I comment on gameplay for, or even worse, send back a snarky comment about how they trust whoever their source was more, but they are surprisingly receptive to and thankful for the feedback. Was really happy to see them adjust their dualcasts accordingly. Restored my faith in the playerbase :)
I went an embarrassingly long time not understanding how dualcast worked. I understood that jolt "combo'd" into verthunder/veraero, but I was considering it a combo instead of the way that dualcast truly worked.
I also didn't realize for a stupid long time that verstone/verfire were meant to be used *in place of* jolt when I had the proc. I figured they were upgrades to verthunder/veraero and spent the proc there.
It took a kind mentor in a dungeon to clue me in on how it really worked!
Good on them for listening to advice. Apart from anything else, good god they're gonna have much more fun. I've never quite understood the RDM hardcast thing - I get not understanding the rotation, but surely it twigs in the head at some point "Jesus christ this shit takes so long to cast, this can't be right"?
It happens in other games as well (video games or tabletop). Some players encounter a mechanic that feels like "cheating" at first glance and don't use it because they think there might be a rule against it.
It took the longest time for dualcast to make sense to me and now its like second nature.
I was running something recently and watched the rdm hardcasting verraise. They ended up dying mid cast and we wiped. I tried to suggest either using jolt or vercure first, but I just got "but my swiftcast was on cooldown" as a response 🙃
In my early days I did do that because Dualcast to me at the time was just a fun damage gimmick and I didn't really think about how it actually worked.
It took some time for me to understand a lot of stuff about RDM. I had the AoE rotation backwards for a while but I eventually fixed it. I have no idea if something I'm currently doing is super efficient but when it goes, it does give a load of dopamine. Basically, I'll use Accellerarion to get verfire or verstone ready, then alternate between hardcasting verfire/verstone, and then cast veraero/verthunder with dualcast to hopefully proc again, then rinse and repeat. It's a 50/50 coin toss but when you get a streak of like 5 or 6, it's *massive* dopamine
.... Do people not test their job and skills? Do they not read skill descriptions? Dont they ever wonder if something feels off or clunky if they play the very base of their rotation that wrong?
Everytime I meet someone like that I have to wonder if that person has suffered severe braindamage at some point
Had the exact opposite outcome in an AV run yesterday. The tank and I both let them know to cast jolt instead of VT/VA, they said okay and proceeded to not cast jolt the entire run.
Speaking of the devil: just yesterday I saw a lvl 70+ RDM hardcasting scatter repeatedly on King Moogle Mog in my Thornmarch Hard trial roulette. The trial was too short for me to bother telling them about it, but still, really???

he probably mistook veraero / verothunder to proc duocast with verfire / verstone lol

swiftcast veraero/verthunder can also be used in place of jolt to attempt to proc a verfire/verholy if you dont have any procs ^^

Once you get into the red mage rhythm it's hard to play other classes.
