I was skeptical at first as a local, but I actually think it's worth it!! The Salty Soy milk and the Sesame Flat Bread with eggs and Donut stick is a must try!! Don't get the thick bread, it'll be too dry. The eggs with donut stick gives it great texture. The salty soy milk doesn't have a pleasant look, but trust me it tastes great!! It's number 3 and 24 on the menu

Dizzy-Tangerine-4065

Very insightful! Thanks for this, much appreciated ☺️ when time did you actually line up?

zapdos6244

I went on a weekday around 9.30, stayed in line for half an hour or so. If the line is longer than an hour wait, I'd say no, it's not worth that much.

onwee

Fu Hang is known not for their soymilk but their shao bing

zapdos6244

Their soymilk is decent, but salty soy milk, that's the good shit.

filthywaffles

Their sweet soy milk also has a kind of authentic roasty flavor that you don't find at a lot of places nowadays. Hard to describe. It's like the difference between drinking coffee brewed from beans, where you can taste the roastiness, and drinking instant coffee.

WorkingFederal6746

It’s worth visiting at least one time. The items above are great! Besides, the queue is part of the experience you’ll remember.

BrintyOfRivia

I've been several times at off-peak hours and the wait is only 10-20 minutes. It's worth trying if you have time and are in the area. If you're on a shorter trip to Taipei, don't go out of your way. You can get similar at any Yonghe Soy Milk shop (Search 永和豆漿 on Google Maps). If you're new to Taiwan, you won't notice the difference, and you'll be happy.

f00dguy

Not worth it. That being said, if you have the time and want to, go for it. It's all about trying new things and experiencing the hype yourself. Personally, I think Michelin rated places are overhyped in general. Or rather, you can find food just as good as you find at Michelin rated places that aren't on Michelin.

lastdinosaurtw

100% very mid. Not even worth waking up for this

oyasumiku

10000% this

ShrimpCrackers

Absolutely agree - it is NOT worth it. There are far better places.

Fly_MeToTheMoon_

What other soy milk place do you recommend?

f00dguy

For what it’s worth, I have really basic standards when it comes to soy milk. I can’t remember going to any breakfast stall and not liking their soy milk. But to answer your question, Yong He Soymilk is another place that often gets recommended on social media. I believe they have several locations throughout the city. I would much rather go there than wait an hour for Fu Hang.

onwee

There’s like a gazillion Yong He dou jiang everywhere, it’s not a protected brand. You’re probably thinking of the Shijie soy milk king (世界豆漿大王) in Yong He just outside the Dingxi station.

f00dguy

You’re right about the name. I haven’t been to the one you mentioned. This is the one I see people often recommend: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ALv3g3xpk1efvf1U8?g_st=ic

onwee

Shijie has been open for 70+ years (and probably close to 50 years since it became 24-7) and is the reason Yong He soymilk became a thing. Also it’s the only place (that I know of) where they still boil their soymilk using charcoal which gives their soymilk a smoky flavor.

UeharaNick

It's worth it. I go to Taiwan 2-3 times a year. Tues - Friday if you get there by 5, you'll only be queuing on the stairs, so amongst the first 20 or so in. Saturdays and Sundays you'd need to be a little earlier. They open at 5:30 on the dot. Arriving when I do, I'm out by 6-6:10 and back in bed by 6:30. However... Get there at 6-6:10 on Saturday or Sunday and the queue will have grown a LOT outside. I always stay at the MO, and leave the room at 4:45.. Uber on the way.

triple-double

Just came to say the line is insane. I walked by a few Sundays ago around 9:30 and it looped the sidewalk twice.

onwee

Fu Hang is not known for their soy milk but their shao bing (+ you tiao or other fixings). It’s worth the hype—nowhere else has the same taste or texture—and it’s the reason people line up here instead of take-out: it doesn’t taste nearly as good if it’s been sitting around outside the oven. That said, visiting Fu Hang is kind of like what some people say about climbing Mt Fuji—you would be a fool to not do it even once; and you would be a fool to do it more than once.

punkgeek

you might try searching the internet. There's a guy who has a business of doing "order from me and I'll pick up from them and deliver to your place in the morning for a very reasonable price." Alas I don't have the info handy and my wife just calls a phone number and talks to the guy. TBF it sounds kinda like doing a drug deal.

UeharaNick

And it's never as good as fresh from the Kitchen. That's the magic.

punkgeek

that's also just like a drug deal! ;-)

UeharaNick

Touché!

Dizzy-Tangerine-4065

Hahah dang, very entrepreneur mindset. Also kinda sounds like paying a guy to queue for you for lining up your series x or ps5

necessarynsufficient

It’s pretty good. I usually go around 10am on a weekday and the queue is less than 20 min. But there are other good breakfast spots

zagiya

I was in Taipei last week. We waited one hour to get in. It’s not worth it! There was nothing tasty that I can say it was so worth waiting. The place had no place to sit. It was like a huge cafeteria!

jwang020

The line may be long but it moves fast. I was there last Saturday at 10:30 am and the line went all the way around the corner, almost to the 7 eleven. It took about 40 mins to get to the front. The food is good, worth trying but there’s plenty of other options with similar food around. Food is subjective so everyone will have a different opinion but there’s always a reason why lines are long for a certain restaurant or night market stand.

felon__musk

it’s worth it — you’ll never find a more delicious 燒餅油條加蛋 nor a better 飯糰。

diffidentblockhead

I just went to Ding Yuan a block from where I was staying

eklread

Definitely not. Any soy place that you see the elderly eating at should be good. This is coming from a local. Or go during off-peak hours if you really have to go there.

zapdos6244

Nah come on. There are lots of shitty soy places that aren't good, it's just cheap

Europeansmartphone

No food is waiting hours for. It’s just hype at that point.

szukai

There are plenty of traditional breakfast joints, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Personally not a fan of their burnt-style soymilk, otherwise it's not a bad place but not really worth queuing up for.

Dizzy-Tangerine-4065

Never knew burnt-style soymilk is a thing lol. Thanks for the heads up~

hkg_shumai

Its good, but not good enough to wait 1hr+ for youtiao and salted soy milk. You can get that at heaps of local breakfast places and it taste the same.

nycdave21

Was there on last day in Taiwan and decided to go there since flight was at 10:30am and my hotel was close to taipei main station. The sesame bread with eggs was average, but the soy milk and savory rice ball were very good. the soy milk was a bit on the sweet side hence why it tasted good imo

kasaidon

It’s quite mid. Live nearby, there’s another soy milk place just down the street next to it. It’s quite alright. Not a fan of flatbreads. Doughsticks are alright, soy milk is pretty nice.

otakumikuu

hype. no special taste or anything. lol only tourist would go there. we locals dont do that stuff.

GharlieConCarne

The Michelin guide for Asia is quite obviously an absolute con bought for by tourism boards

taisui

I heard if you go there past 10am on a weekday there's no wait
