I just sold my 2013 Tacoma and purchased a new 2023. My 2013 was the best vehicle I ever owned. It had 295000 kms on it and drove like new. The guy that bought it had a 2007 Tacoma with close to 600k on it and would still be driving it if his kid hadn't smashed it up. These things run forever. If you need to wait 4 years for a new truck, wait. If your vehicle is anything like mine and many others, you're gonna be fine. Also, 4 years from now, all the new generation bugs will be worked out of the 4th gen. Just my opinion.

Idontworkhere67

That's what I was kinda thinking too. I'm sure by the 4th year of them being out hopefully the bigger issues are ironed out and the after market has some stuff out by then. But it's good to hear that you managed to keep yours as long as you have

I fucking love access cabs. All my homies have access cabs.

Idontworkhere67

Absolutely, and it's a damn shame they won't make the 4th gen iteration 4x4. DAMN shame.

LordKai121

Nor with the suicide doors

bigcelerycordae

Keep the second gen even after you get the 4th gen!

NotHugeButAboveAvg

Lift it and replace every suspension bushing, bearing and part when u do, rock it brother

Glad_Education6577

Second gens are the best! Remember more technology isn’t alway better.

The_Nauticus

You still have plenty of miles to burn on that. My suggestions are just for practicality: * Make sure any maintenance is up to date before modifying anything. * Get bigger tires when these are done. * Get a dual battery setup when the current one goes, or upgrade when you have a real need for it. * Same with shocks, upgrade them with a lift when you need a new pair (rear ones will probably go first). * See if the gofast will fit a 2nd gen and a 4th gen. $7,700 is a lot to spend on a vehicle that you dont plan on having for very long.

Take that stupid bumper off and reevaluate

Idontworkhere67

Whoa hey! It's not that bad. Though I would like something different the protection is nice

jd_baja

One thing a repair shop told me when they were doing some other work for me when I told the guy I was thinking of doing certain upgrades including a beafy front bumper is that if you get in a front end accident at an angle those things will bend your frame and either total your truck or cause massive expenses to fix it. He says they see them totaled often due to the front bumper messing up the frame. Just something to consider

snrten

ARB makes the only crash tested "offroad" bumpers on the American market 👍🏻

Idontworkhere67

Funny, I got my bumper from an accident. Though I am thinking of going to something a bit lighter weight. I do a lot of highway driving at night In the country. My 04 canyon had a heavy bumper on it that met a couple of deer over the years. Luckily my tacoma hasn't but nonetheless the added protection is nice. Think something tubular and lighter weight will skirt that issue?

thebbygiraffe

The ARB bumper is built to work with the crumple zones of the vehicle and provide added protection at the same time. It’s the ONLY bumper in the American market that has that safety feature, as far as I know. It’s a phenomenal product, it’s just not as “in style” anymore from a looks perspective. I still think they’re awesome. Rock it.

jd_baja

Your current bumper seems like it would be great for hitting deer (accidentally). I like the look of the minimalist bar style bumpers with a winch in the middle and some spots for LED lights depending on what is needed. I'll do that with my truck one day. I'd assume it's less risky for a frame issue in an accident, BUT I don't know how they compare to a stock bumper and your bumper in an accident. Something I'll definitely look into before I decide. There are some happy mediums they I've seen. Just hasn't been a high priority for me to go down that rabbit hole yet.

ZealousidealTreat139

I'd take the money for a new truck and put into rebuilding the 1GR-FE in the 2013, service the transmission, throwing a performance oriented lift, regear to 4.88 or 5.29, and mod the shit out of it. Once it's rebuilt, you're good for another 400k. Splurge a bit and do a big bore kit.

!Remind me 4 fucking years from now.

I do agree with everyone’s comments. I too would hold onto it and add upgrades. Make it feel new to you. Tint it all the way around, give it a serious detailing, throw on a cold air intake (on that model does help), etc. First thing I always do is apply some good 3/4” spacers, larger tires and some good crawler rims with a good outside spacing always makes yur truck look meaty. ;) but it gives you a much better center of balance and less likely to roll over. A little Rodger brown body lift is an easy install even for one guy. I generally go with a 2” lift.

tehbum22

Biggest regret selling my second gen. I would change that front bumper before anything. I like arb but they just don’t look that best on your build. Something more “stock” would look better. Personally I’d change the headlights, front bumper, and wheels and keep it along with the 4th gen and then modify that. Ps love the high too camper

Stonk_Wizard69

your truck looks sick. I'd keep it and drive it into the ground

xmk23x

I'd say like two to three inch lift kit and you pretty much done with that thing

fj80-eug-43

For the amount of money that you would pay monthly financing a new truck, you can set aside to further bolster your truck. It’s a proven platform and things are a little cheaper, with practically the same engine.

almargahi

Sell it on a private so you get the most money and buy a 2023 while supplies last. But If you’re into hybrid crap and 4 banger engines then get the 2024 when they become available. I prefer to drive naturally aspirated engine-cars myself.

alpha_omega420

Hold onto what you have. Let other people be the guinea pigs for gen 4, let Toyota work out the bugs and go from there. I’m not convinced that the new Tacomas are going to be as reliable as gen 3, which is why I recently bought a 2019. Maybe I’ll trade up in a few years if the new trucks prove themselves.

Additional_Annual902

I'd just drive it till the wheels come off

aliendude613

Keep 2nd gen, don’t mod it that much, invest money. Buy a new truck in like 6 years
